@@weili1351 it doesn't help that theres someone in the highest american office who blames everything that goes wrong on china, china is now what the jews were in the 1940s or the russians during (and after) the cold war a scapegoat. That being said china doesnt win points with their treatment of hong kong, taiwan, the uygur muslims and india, they frankly should be a little less concerned with saving face domesticaly and worry a bit more about how they look internationaly as thats what their economy hinges on. Just look at how easy it was to ban huawei from 5g in US and UK and maybe EU will follow

Is it a benefit for all mankind to keep on the sunny side of life? No!
There is the right time and place to deal with issues that are incorrect and evil.
I think Elon knows everything needed to further help fix issues within this regime.
The people of China want to better "Humankind" also.
There are governments all over the world that do things wrong and pit nations against each other.
CULTures are our own worse enemy.
CULT extremism is a dangerous tool for war.
None of us win in war.
Diplomacy at the grassroots level promotes more unity in Community.
Here in Canada there is evil that creates a facade of being good.
I have witnessed decades of how confidentiality is abused as a weapon against us repeatedly.
Repeated coverups by experienced levels of government staff abusing their positions for selfish gains and power.
Murdering their own fellow citizens on purpose, in facade of righteous do gooders.
It is thick with evil here there and everywhere.
It is much better to stay on the sunny side when it is sunny and turn on the light of evidence and witness all evil within our own community.
The people in China have done the same repeatedly in history.
Other Countries are finally standing up to China's wrong doing.

@House Essentials I have huge problems with how China abuse human rights, but at the same time they are undeniably going to leap frog America in emerging technologies, if not already. So what do we do now? Unleash cancel culture on all that mention what China is doing right? Or be competitive and learn from the good examples, while also learning from the bad so that we won't make their mistakes? Keeping our heads in the sand won't make us better human beings.
America just spent trillions filling the pockets of the corporations and the rich stock holders in this pandemic. America also invaded a country not for "destroying weapons of mass destruction" but for its oil. Yet I still love America because its people want to do good, and the good out weight the bad. Keep your head high and open to listening to what you don't want to hear.

Ive been trying to find component workarounds in the event of complete trade embargo or war with China. Not so easy. For example, a transformer we buy in bulk costs $0.19 from China. It's US made equivalent is $10 in bulk - kind of a product game changer. Over time the US will become competitive, so a rapid resolution to the conflict is in China's best interest. Just so hard to point fingers at China when we have Trump as president!

The contracts are probably short term because it will take a couple of years for Tesla to scale up their Roadrunner battery production technology that they are just starting to build up to scale in Fremont. Once they’ve ramped it up there and worked out the kinks for high volume manufacturing then they will start building it up at Nevada and then Berlin, and finally Shanghai so all of their production will gradually be in house, but they need these other supply agreements in the interim until they can get there.

When McDonald's first went to China in early the 90s, they got huge benefits from the Chinese government's preferential policies because the Chinese were very interested in how to run business at that scale. After 2 decades, Chinese learned how to build and run the entire supply chain domestically, McDonald's found it became extremely difficult to do business in the country and the once friendly government became contrarian, they finally surrendered the business to the Chinese. As today, McDonald's restaurants in China is probably the only franchise on the planet bearing that logo has nothing to do with -- the McDonald's.

    @ Is Tesla too expensive?
The short answer is not. Let me explain:
If you buy a stock, you need to know
    1. FEPS (forward 12 months,earning per share )
    2. FGR (forward growth rate of EPS )
    3. Since FPE= Price/ (FEPS)
    4. Thus PEG=FPE/FGR
    5. For comparison, stock with lower PEG is relatively more valuable.
    6. Base on the above, one can compare Tesla with some familiar stocks as followings(*)
    TSLA-(123/230)=0.53
    *AMZN-(72/99)=0.72
    *FB-(24/33)=0.73

2 things i would point out, 1st the stats of tesla's model 3 lfp version kinda suck, it has less range (wltp 218miles vs 254miles) And its a lot heavier, (1745kg vs 1612kg) and they only reach a pack energy density of 125wh/kg vs for instance the BYD blade battery's 140 wh/kg.
2nd, i think you are confusing LFP with NMC when talking about future cell density, yes they are talking about 200wh/kg for LFP but the 350wh/kg comes from their currently in research NMC811 cell (to be clear CATL already has NMC 811 cells and theres one that rumoured to go into a new chinese car by end of year with 304wh/kg vs ~280 for lg chem's nmc811 and ~250 for tesla's 2018 2170 NCA)

  • @rogerstarkey5390
    @rogerstarkey5390 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Sorry, but I agree with quantaca.
As stated, I believe the LiFePo4 chemistry only provides sufficient density to suit the short range Model 3, it's limited by the physical volume available in that vehicle (not just the pack)
The Tesla cell (probably 2170?) Will provide well over 300Wh/kg, that's where the (main) cost saving occurs, with fewer cells in the smaller packs.
    Other savings?
I believe the new cell will have its first application in the Plaid Model S. That vehicle (pack) needs substantial energy boost in a volume which I suspect is "maxed out" with the existing design.
Also, cooling needs to be addressed.
That will be accomplished in several ways, by cell materials and chemistry (Maxwell/ Jeff Dahn)
New cell construction (edge connection) all of which reduce the internal resistance, therefore heating of the cell under load.
(Not to mention charging at ax V3 rates for the full 0-100 pack capacity)
Then, there's the pack patent (mentioned in the video).
That details the sub module layout, but *also* suggests innovative multi- state cooling (clever!) and a fast construction using layered PCB connections (less, if any welding of terminals?)
(Note that the patent indicates use of cylindrical cells)
The logical path would then be to use the same "box" with fewer cells for the "lesser" S/X models.
This would logically lead to the end of the 18650 cell, meaning a *much* cheaper pack, due to both density, and no shipping cost (cash for a refresh??).
    Next step?
Why not a smaller "box" for all but Plaid cars?
Model 3 size? (A 40% density increase would increase yield from 75 up to 100kWh in the available volume, that's about 350Wh/ kg)
    Result,
A modular pack casing that fits ALL current S3XY models would save a huge amount. Just tweak the cell quantity.
    Why not a common BMS?
Those cell sub modules could also be used for storage solutions.
(Note the lack patent specifically mentions a storage application)
All shaving the costs, Tesla likes Modular.

I HIGHLY doubt Tesla is switching to prismatics in the long term/globally. The benefits of cylindrical cells in reliability, safety, performance and other aspects, are well above what they would get from prismatics. I think they are simply taking advantage of CATL's expertise with prismatics, and the fact that they're the leading supplier in china, to accelerate production. I'm willing to bet it took far less time for them to adapt their chemistry to CATL's prismatic process, than to have CATL produce a whole new line for cylindrical cells, or to use a different supplier.
China's auto market is also far below the level that Tesla's vehicles are at. They don't need their cars to match the cars they're producing at Fremont. They can get away with producing a vehicle that doesn't perform as highly as their american made cars, because China's auto market is far less developed. Most of their vehicles are poorly made, unreliable and overall substandard, so it's much easier for Tesla to beat them by a wide margin, even without making their very best vehicle.
