The reason is avoiding genetic compilation the restrictions are due to if 1 does second willing to do it, also not to marry with foreigners is not a rule but he should your varnavyavstha which actually represents jobs which is by birth. I am 30 years old and chose an arranged marriage over a love marriage even though I was in serious relationships. But in India the diversity is too much so culturally , socially and mentally both parties should match. Which in case of western countries either people are christian or athiest and pretty much share the same culture and mindset. So in our country it is not just 2 people coming together it is 2 families coming together. Imagine a south Indian marrying a Haryanvi. No matter how progressive you are in thought it gets difficult when it comes to the whole family. And if you think you can just put behind your family for another person , then I am sorry but that is not fair because your parents and family have invested emotinally and financially in your up bringing.

I was in a boyfriend-girlfriend relationship with a British Jat Sikh , in UK she wouldn't go into Indian restaurants with me, was wary in local Asian shops and was terrified her family would find out.
