Ecclesiastes 3:1 “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” We grow tired and need rest from it all as the seasons change, all in the Lord's plan!❤
Amen. I grew up doing all this homestead stuff and my husband and I start doing it ourselves 14 years ago. I’m not stopping but I’m over it too! We had a baby in august and honestly he’s one of my higher needs babies and I just need a break. I know it’s not the end of my passion, I have six kids and they’ve all been born between may and September and those transitions can be tough. 2 were seemless, but 4 were more energy consuming. I get it though. I’m happy to see the frost arrive this week. I dried off one of my milk cows early and got a second foster calf for my other so we can wean her spring calf but continue with the flexibility of calf sharing. Last summer I killed it with cheese making and using every bit of dairy that came in. This year I’m only making butter and yogurt and the pigs are drinking all the rest. There just aren’t enough hours in the day and I had to let go of the guilt of all I “wasted” from the garden and the dairy cows. I’ve got a steer that’s past ready to butcher too but he’s just got to wait because I don’t have energy or the two weeks of time it will take to process and get him in the freezer….likewise there are turkeys and rabbits in the barnyard waiting until I have time to process them too….but right now the people of the homestead must come first!
May I just peek my head around the corner, having not been invited, and say mama you’re ok to do only what you can accomplish. Nothing else is wasted or whatever. You’re doing a fabulous job sustaining little humans lives. ❤
I learned this year, through lot's of prayer and time with the Lord, that the feeling of wasting things is truly from the enemy. The Lord tells us He will provide, and we must rely on Him for that. I stopped worrying so much about it and my life and spirit are so much more free. I know He will provide.
Totally understand your comment about being over it. We usually have a large garden, but i had a baby this summer. So gardening was minimal. And thats ok. There will be years where i can do all the things. But right now, my baby is my focus.
You are absolutely amazing, never doubt that . Your dedication to your family is outstanding. You make me proud . We are very similar. I am 60 now and when I look back I wonder how I did it all, criticised by people and other women how I lived my home life . But I look back with love , affection and so grateful for the life I have been gifted . Take care of yourself first so you can take care of yourself. Many blessings to you and your family . 💗🐨💗
I don’t even have a new baby, and I’m over it! I love seasons because I need the change every year. Less flies in the barn, less smelly poop in the barn, less canning. Exciting for the winter cooking and banking and a fire ❤ Happy change!
I was having the same thoughts! So happy our garden is done. Very thankful God created seasons. Because I know I'll miss the garden and summer once the long, cold winter comes.
I'm very excited for my garden to go to sleep for the winter. I understand what you're saying. Harvest time arriving when homeschool begins is stressful to me. Our garden did very well, which is a blessing, but also overwhelming. I over planted expecting most to not do well as usual, but it all grew, and kept going up until the frost!
I wished they had something like thrive market in Germany. We have organic stores here, but they don’t deliver. But I have a farmer close by, who delivers a box of organic veggies, fruits, eggs and some meat. That helps.
My first born was born in early September. When she was 4 days old my husband was outside canning our tomatoes and I was like “LET THEM ROT I NEEE HELP!!” 😂 now I have my 5 month old and I am so over everything too. I’m watching this in my kitchen doing my own cooking. God Bless!
We all need a change of pace and a little bit of respite sometimes. No shame at all for feeling over it because we all go through these Ebbs and flows. I'm going to have to try your one pot spaghetti! I usually can a bunch of sauce or freeze it (because it's faster), but this year, I also made and froze a bunch of stewed tomatoes. This was a great way to use up all the tomatoes and peppers from the garden❤
My 9th is only 10 weeks and it’s just hard right now to get into anything so I feel you. I also feel like it takes me a year to get back on track and some of that is sleep gets better and some is hormonal. I’ll get back to my garden, cows, etc again once spring comes. We need the winter to rest, and I really feel like that is why God gives us the winter. In Canada we have to plow our driveway quite a bit but it’s still less work than gardening, mowing and our summer animal care lol.
Even though Our 4 Children are older,2 actually are in their early twenties and don’t live at home anymore. The other 2 are teenagers, they help some. They work at a Montessori Preschool half the day. My Husband works two jobs, since we are trying to pay off our house and be debt free! I have had a hard time keeping up with the Gardens, the chickens, bunnies and dogs. The Cooking,Preserving from the Harvest, House Keeping,Laundry 🧺and more! I have prayed about what to cut lose! Won’t go into the details of Personality. Just a little venting. Here Southern Oregon, we have long growing season as well. Usually from the beginning off April until the beginning of November. We got a lot of Tomatoes this year, mostly Cherry/Grape Tomatoes. A Fair Amount of Romas. We make quite a bit of Salsa. We all really like homemade Tomato Soup! I have found I can do a similar base for Tomato Soup and Pasta Sauce. Put it in Jars. Then when it I go to use it for meals, I can add to it. I do make some Tomato Pie with the Romas. Also some Toasted Cheese Bread with the small tomatoes. Also make Fried Green Tomatoes. Because of so much Tomatoes this year, I had a hard time keeping up with the Zucchini’s and Cucumbers as far as Preserving. We still have Pumpkins and Butternut Squash to Harvest!
i'll be pp in late winter into spring so skipping the store trip is something i'll be planning on doing then to cut back my responsibilities! thanks for the tip. love your deep thinking chats, you could totally just plop the audio to podcast format and i'd listen while i drive😁😉
This was my first year ever gardening and I made pasta sauce last week using one pot method. Like you I just used what I had and put it in the blender and made chicken Parmesan. Delish! 😅
I used your link and have gotten 2 deliveries. So far I've found all of the items I've bought to be super good. Love their spaghetti sauce, salsa salad dressing( I've tried green goddess and currently using ranch and omg so good.) I've bought ketchup and BBQ sauce too. And other odds and ends. Very happy with the service too. How amazing to have it delivered to my door! Just unpack and put away! Never thought I would do something like this but so very happy I did. Thanks Stef!!
You looked so beautiful in your anniversary short you posted, I loved your outfit❤ Could you share where your flare jeans are from here? You always have the best style❤ God bless
By the looks of that baby (ie, size,) he looks like a 13yro😅 He is getting so big😍 Im amazed how much you do in spite of your large family & not always upto Par🌝
Agh so nice to hear this from another mom! I get so over it as well with a new baby and early pregnancy! What jeans do you wear?? They look high waisted and comfy but still with structure and quality fabric.
What brand of refrigerators do you have? What do you like/don't like about them? As a homesteader, I am needing a fridge with more space inside. Thanks!
Ive never heard anyone else say it takes them a yeat to get back into all the things. Its exactly how I feel. We're expecting baby #6 in late spring and i already know my husband will be in charge of planting this year. 😅
i didn't have the time to start and care for a garden this year even tho i love it and wish i would have but hopefully next spring. my garden space is looking really rough at the moment too lol
One of the most important lessons we can teach our children is that at least half of our waking lives is doing things we don’t feel like doing, while not being able to do things we feel like doing. I’m not religious myself (unless stoicism counts as a religion); I just call it the human condition. If things need to be done, you get on with it.
Can you make tomato sauce and freeze it? I don't do canning, don't have the equipment or space and it's just me, but I like "Fresh & convenience". If I can freeze, it should be in glass jars and how long will it last?
You can make Tomato Sauce and Freeze it! It is not a good idea to freeze in Jars. Jars can crack in the freezer or when thawing out. Freezer bags are best. I also make homemade Tomato Soup. The base for Tomato Sauce and Tomato Soup is similar and easy!😁🥰😇
Yes. I freeze mine in jars, just thaw out in the fridge and not in the countertop so it goes slowly. Plastic is toxic and expensive. I try not to keep mine past six months or so. They also make “souper cubes” which are super convenient. They are silicone and have measurements on them. I freeze soup in them and ten can stack in one gallon bag or a freezer container! That would work great.
I've just had a baby 4 weeks ago, he is a super needy baby, needs to be on me constantly. I have no time to do the garden or even get in the kitchen much, but I know I'll get back into it , once he's old enough , but for now I'm just doing what I can!
How is it all these people have top of the line stainless freezers, 2:54 refrigerators, gas stoves, multiple ovens? Are they wealthy? Do they get these donated, no criticism just wondering. Does youtube pay that well?😢

Yes high needs babies really do make aa difference as far as what can get done on a homestead! Congrats on your new babe!

This time of year, I'm glad for my garden to be done, too. It's time to tear things out and then rest my body.

Same here! I've been letting my goats in to eat all the weeds.
I'm a Texas girl, we make lots of Salsa!
Question: how long does bone broth last in the fridge?
Oh girl no I feel the same way😅 We live in Vermont and I'm STILL waiting on frost so I can harvest my kale and SHUT. IT. DOWN.
We FINALLY got out frost this morning! Never been so happy about it! 😂
I’m in northern VT- bordering Mansfield St Forest… there’s snow not far up from us, but our house is almost a month behind normal last frost!! Wild!

Can I ask what carrier you’re using? My son is 4 months nearly and I think we may need to move on from the wrap xx
I’d like to get one for my daughter-in-law 😊
Looks like the ergobaby wrap. The basic one, not the 360
I recently read that eating too many Brazil nuts can lead to toxic levels of selenium.

Hi, would you only do the one pot spaghetti with Juliett tomatoes or could you use other tomatoes? Thank You for you content it’s wonderful ❤
Can i ise yeast in making a sourdough srarter?
So you didn't cook the pasta first you just dumped into the sauce? Saves so much time!
Yep! Since I didn't juice the tomatoes, all of the water content made the sauce very liquidy which makes it perfect for cooking pasta in
