We live on a cow/calf farm - black Herefords. Our boys became men on our farm...they thank us today for the good work ethic that was instilled by farm life - they know what hard work is and are doing such a great job taking care of their own families now! They also know how to serve after helping me and my daughter in our little country tearoom. And...I might add, my daughter knows how to do a lot as well, we say they all have their Phd's - Professional Post Hole Diggers! LOL. You're doing a great job -- I love your channel
I’m having to give up my homestead because of a difficult situation & move back to the city so I cherish your videos so much right now in this hard transition. They give me so much peace that God will bless me with the desires he’s put my heart like he’s done for you 🤍
I have so much respect for you, home schooling, sticking to good food, being involved with the farm. I did all this years ago when my 3 sons were home, loved it all, we no longer have cows or chickens but I still maintain the basics! 😊
Kind of makes sense that fresh pasta would not do so well, texture-wise, in the extra liquid~ since dried pasta would use the liquid to rehydrate~ fresh, not so much. Love the concept however, especially the one pot sauce~ brilliantly fresh yum! Since it's just my husband & I now, & we're mostly meat based eaters, pasta isn't on the menu anymore, though I've been making a lot of fermented foods~ so that's fun. Also just recently learned about ancient einkorn flour as a pasta/bread source, so may do some experimenting with that. Lovely post, and so peaceful & calming. Thanks for sharing~ Samantha in AZ
We have a Jersey as well, and Mary looks pregnant to me. You'll have to update us when you find out. Our kids are doing the same thing in our woods. They're making trails and forts and having a blast. I'm so thankful to have land and the freedom our children have to explore it!
Hey Steph another great video 😊 I also watch Pasta Grannies on TH-cam 😊 I learn so much from them. I pray to God I'm able to have the strength those woman have, and to cook those wonderful meals that they cook 😊
Branch Basics is truly the best! I’ve been using them for about 5 years now.. other than vinegar and baking soda, it’s all I use! It’s the only truly non toxic cleaners that I’ve found. Thanks for another awesome video! 😊
Im wanting to guess a horse! But it would be a little bit surprising to me in a season of mom overwhelm! But moms are amazing and push through a lot for their kids. So excited about the cold room for you! That would be my absolute dream!
We've done a bit of clearing in our woods this year as well. We rotationally graze our sheep and put up a large perimeter fence around the pasture which went through some woods. We sold some of the nicer trees and kept a few of them. My husband is debating using some of them for cabinets when we eventually get around to remodeling our kitchen but we'll have to see how busy he is when that actually comes around. ❤ My kids also constantly amaze me with the types of things they do. They made a fort in the woods over the summer and were so industrious. They cleared out a lot of the brush and made little trails… my daughter even put rocks in a large circle and made a garden with ferns and other decorative grasses.
OH GOODIE. My favorite homesteader with a new video! I am so glad you are getting lots of sponsors!!! And subscribers as well. I feel like you are my neighbors! I just wish I could sit in the pew behind ya'all at mass! : ) Keep being real! We need more TH-camrs with great advice instead of the same ole same ole videos! I learn something new each time I watch your videos. This video reminded me to buy extra water and canned goods just in case! You can never be too prepared! I think you are getting a horse. I think a mini horse would be adorable as well or a pony!!!! Until next video, your catholic friend Nancy from OHIO
This summer our 2 Jerseys were pregnant, one had a huge belly and the other didn't look pregnant at all. The huge Momma had a small calf and the other Momma surprised me with a huge calf! I don't know how she carried that calf without looking pregnant! I am hoping your Mary is pregnant too. 😊
Feel you. I’ve had 1 of 9 that was content. The rest, including twins, high needs. I have gotten not much done on the homestead due to that. But this spring…getting back to it. Seasons from the Lord ❤
Awesome to hear your husband speak about the logs. He seems so kind. And a good and a simple man. ❤️ Why must people wonder about him and what he’s doing? He is clearly a working man and father. And do folks not realize you film just a small portion of your week. Gah. 🙄😂
I am really interested in seeing the process of your cold room. I am trying to figure out how the temperatures remain cold in bothe winter and summer in particular. The tomatoes looked good. Thanks for sharing
Just found your channel and I absolutely love it!! 🤩 Uou have given me confidence in your explanations in especially sourdough that’s helped me not give up!❤ Also, you have denim overalls on where did you get them I love them?🤩
You look amazing (svelt/fit/strong)!! I would love to hear more about any diet you currently follow & if you do any fasting (either intermittent or Catholic/faith-based fasting).
Interested in looking at Branch Basics. I will be finally making my/your liquid laundry soap. Is there anything you use as a fabric softener. My water is extremely hard well water. Thanks ❤❤❤❤❤
I've watched your videos for quite some time. I always enjoy your recipes. I would love to give this tomato sauce a try! Would it freeze well if I didn't add the pasta or ground beef?
Hi Stephanie, Do you use this cleaner on greasy kitchen cabinets? I so enjoy your videos. What do you have in store for holiday baking? Hugs from Oklahoma
I recently "inherited " a lifetime supply of red wheat from my mom (we were raised morman and were encouraged to have a year supply of food. They bought about 20 5 gallon buckets of hard red wheat beries 30+ years ago and never used them). I have a mill and just started experimenting with whole grains. I am finding i dont love the flavor of the red wheat. Have you fpund that certain recipes /breads do better with red vs white wheat? Also, the wheat has been sealed and is still good even though it is over 30 years old!
I bought600 pounds of red wheat that was stored well. I like the security I feel with the wheat. You can also barter and trade different types of wheat.. The wheat That you have from the time frame it was grown is a much better quality than you can buy today. You were smart to repackage it in mylar You need a transition time for the taste. try using 1/2 hard white wheat or spelt berries. I find mixing them to get different flavors and texture to be better and more enjoyable. keep experimenting you will find your favorite blend. Try using for cereal, sprouting and popping.
Wow Smart. having that cool room downstairs !! Between your husband and you ,,your family is going to be well provided for during hard times.. I’m telling you women Out there look for these qualities in a man before you get married marry a farmer,!! Having a homestead is the most blessed life!
I love having a clean house and baking all day but I hate actually having to clean it😂 Btw, Do you take your Mary Ruth multivitamin + hair growth while breastfeeding?
@@HopewellHeights that’s awesome! Thank you. I did my own research and went ahead and asked my OB and of course got the typical dr response 😑 “no studies have been shown on the amount of vitamins given in this typical dose” I honestly don’t think she looked at the amount of the vitamins in the supplement, I think she just glanced at the percentages. I’d rather honestly have peer opinions instead of fully trusting doctors who completely rely on the studies from FDA and CDC.
May I ask if you are using the Branch basics for your laundry now or are you still using your homemade one? I just made it for the first time recently and have been using it. I keep reading about people saying the soap will give me “soap scum” but it works fine for my clothing. Just curious if you’re still using it yourself!
I know TH-cam is full of unsolicited advice so feel free to skip right over this and do what works for you guys….but I just wanted to throw it out there as a family cow owner myself I know how devastating mastitis can be to deal with, especially when you just have a couple cows that nourish your family. So all that to say that a calf nursing on a dry cow is a huge risk factor for mastitis or ruining quarters. The teat end is opened without a good solid flush of milk to be washing any potential bacteria back out and then bacteria making its way up into the udder and hanging out in there until she freshens can significantly increase mastitis risk (and sadly some like staph a and kleb can be really hard if not impossible to treat once they wall off abscesses in the udder). The natural teat seal that the cow makes when she’s dried off helps to protect against that during the dry period. The calf cutting up teats with her teeth and bunting the udder can create scar tissue. One of my girls lost a quarter to an injury while dry that is completely closed off with scar tissue now. Also, recurrent miscarriage can be caused by low vitamins (not nearly as likely if your girls are out on pasture all summer unless you live in an area that is nutrient deficient (in my area were extremely selenium deficient), or diseases like lepto or neospora that can be transmitted by deer. So possibly something to test for if you come up open when the vet checks. I hope this info isn’t out of line, I love your videos and don’t want my comment to sound rude- but sometimes a typed comment makes the tone sound different than intended.
thank you so much for all of this info, I so apapreciate it! We were actually going to separate them when we first noticed the heifer calf nursing, but then we could tell she was getting milk bc her mouth is white after she latches - so Sally must be producing some, do you think the mastitis risk is still there even if she's producing? If so we can easily separate them!
If she were mine, I’d probably lock up the calf for 12 hours and then milk the cow and see how much you get. If you can get like a half gallon at least I’d let her keep the calf. If it’s less than that amount I would probably separate and then dry treat the cow. You could go conventional and do a tomorrow or quartermaster dc type antibiotic treatment or a natural route like synergy products. Milk her out totally, dry treat and then leave her until she freshens again. If you do keep the calf on her, I would just say to make sure to pull her 60 days before her own calf is due. Cow colostrum is kind of a one and done verses a supply and demand like milk. If the calf continues to nurse, the cow won’t build up colostrum for her own calf and that calf could then struggle. I hope that makes sense!
But for real.. does your husband support and agree with your apocalypse/prep stash? If not, how do y’all handle that? Because my hubby rolls his eyes and thinks I’m crazy, too. 😂😅
Most TH-camrs with common sense and open minds know what's going on in this world. North Korea sent 3000 of its military members to Russia to help Putin against Ukraine. Things are getting worse and the news is making Trump look like he is a leader like Putin and North Korea's leader. I think the news just wants him to lose the race. They are grasping at straws. It's getting more real by the day. I too feel that we might need to load up our food supply at home. I live by myself with my dog. I plan on buying a bunch of canned goods this weekend and I have lots of dried out wood if I would need to cook outside. I buy extra water weekly just in case. It sucks that we have to think this way but stay vigilant. It can't hurt to be prepared for it.
Mayonnaise? That’s odd 😮 you can make pasta with just flour and water…..doesn’t always need eggs. Most pasta that you buy is just flour and water and dried.
You would be surprised how some cows can hide their pregnancy up until the end. Of course if this cow has had a history of showing when she's this close to her due date than she likely miscarried but there's still hope! Our Guernsey miscarried a couple of years ago and it was so disappointing.

It is amazing of what skill kids can build when they are not in front of the TV, their faces glued to a cell phone or XBOX!
All of humanity has developed skills in this manner since the beginning of time

I have been using branch basics since 2017! I have been BLOWN away at how good it is at cleaning things I never thought I could.
Agreed! I love having a clean house! I can’t relax if things aren’t clean and organized. Will definitely check out Branch. Another great video!
I love this video😭 I can’t wait for my life to look like this
Where did you buy those four kitchen wood shelves? Love your long farm house porch. Nice to spend time on porch. ❤
During covid my boys adopted a baby calf and bottle fed her. She just had her second bull calf and in December we will be harvesting her 1st calf.
Just found your channel and I absolutely love it!! 🤩 Uou have given me confidence in your explanations in especially sourdough that’s helped me not give up!❤ Also, you have denim overalls on where did you get them I love them?🤩
Your channel has quickly become my favorite! ❤ More Catholic themed videos?
Oh my gosh that little baby is the cutest baby I’ve ever seen. And I have my own baby 😂
I have the same pasta maker. And I recently got a hand mill. Told my husband we’re ready for the zombies to come 😂
The absolute best life for kids. I don’t like living in the big wide world , no thank you . 🐨💗

Check how much heat comes off your freeze dryer before putting into your cold room. Most motors put off lots of heat.
i love you and your fam😅ly you guys are awesome yes my third son was my needy one i get it i live in canada thank you for sharing your life thank you😊
Your little guy is so sweet, cute little man
Love all your vids, thank you so much for sharing x
I thought about putting my freeze dryer in a future cold room, but I find it warms up the room it’s in too much to do that. Just a thought
SO happy is fall ❤
Is the surprise a large family van? We're starting to look for one with baby #6 coming in a few months
YES!!! congrats on #6!!
I love branch basics!
Where did you get those cute brown boots? I need them 🥰
I L❤VE your videos 🎃🍁🍂🧡Happy Fall

I love branch basics. It cleans so good ❤
I love your content. Every video is awesome, and relatable. What do use to condition your wooden utensils?
Good morning!
Won't the freeze dryer heat the room up too much for food storage?
Hi Steph
Have you heard of L Reuteri you can make your own yogurt good for gut health

My poor dog!!! I had to turn this video off at the 2 minute mark because the sound terrified my dog. She ran and hid and is shaking. 😥

I heard you need ventilation in a cold room, for the gases the vegetables give off, that could be dangerous to humans.
Did you get a pony?!
The calf nursing will help bring in milk faster
My guess would be a horse

You would be surprised how some cows can hide their pregnancy up until the end. Of course if this cow has had a history of showing when she's this close to her due date than she likely miscarried but there's still hope!
