You don't want to know how much I've scoured TH-cam looking for someone tearing down one of these. They make brand new systems that look absolutely identical to this, marketed as "Thor" active mufflers, or the Milltek Sport for around 1.5k $. This is the first video I've seen what's actually inside. It just blows my mind they would do something as dumb as just put an actual speaker in there. I was 100% sure it was a waterproof transducer instead of a speaker. Anyways, thanks for making this video, it's very helpful.
Thanks Have you seen my other video showing the repair with marine grade waterproof speakers Its been one great success cost £57 and I've now helped loads of others repair theirs as well. Just wish my presentation skills was better
@@alfaspiderman3591 I think the video is great! what was missing is showing the exhaust working again after the new speaker is fitted, that would be a bit of a pain to film I imagine, but it gives a sense of accomplishment to viewers :)
@@alfaspiderman3591 Thanks for your video sir! On my Maserati levante year 2017 Diesel I have replaced both speakers with the pioneer TR 1600 in video but the sound is less profound than before now i don't know what to do .. i would like to change the amplifier module because probably the problem exists on amplification I believed that the pioneer speakers you used were better in sound response than the maserati oems but for me it was not so the answer is less profound Any suggest from you sir ?
The speakers people want are "Visaton W 164 A". These are active exhaust rated speakers. They are the correct 2 ohm, and the right size. alfaspiderman has fitted these to my SQ5 and the result are perfect. They provide full body loud sound as per original. They can also handle the extra power from the Kufatec Booster, and sound even more amazing. As for the negative comments about "fake" sound. While i agree natural sound is better, try getting a decent sound from a diesel with all the emission stuff left on. New MOT rules are harder to get round. These systems allow a better sound when you want and none when you are not in the mood (or need a quieter exhaust in the early morning). Great sound and great MPG what's not to love?
Would like to thank you for the brilliant job you did on my SQ5 speakers replacement. Turns out the SQ5 has exactly the same setup speaker casings and problems. Thanks again. Please note to other people its not a quick 10min job it took a few hours to complete!

Audi asked for 2500€ because they only replace the SQ5 silencers. Thanks for this video, going to do it myself. What speakers did you choose for replacement ? Pioneer Mariner or Gladen?
I've got a similar problem on my SQ5, would you be able to help? I tried replacing the OEM Sound Booster module, also replaced the Kufatec Sound Booster, still the problem exists, the noise isn't as loud as before, would you be able to help with this?
myaudiq5 forum full write up available on there; its noted when even a single speaker stops working they both stop working. you say yours is quieter? which implies it is working just not as loud; run the VCDS/VAGS diags and make sure no error codes with a laptop connected. remove kufatec/reset it ensuring it picks up your car model again and then reset the profiles. If you use the cruise control on the motorway/highway dont forget this can change the kufatec jumping profiles. Profile 1 bit sporty, profile 6 mental. Good Luck
They probably put an 8 ohm speaker instead of a 4ohm or just a lower power speaker in general. If it fits in the same place doesn't mean it's the same power. You can get a general idea by comparing the size of the coils on the back.
you solved ? I have replaced both speakers with the pioneer TR 1600 in video but the sound is less profound than before now i don't know what to do .. i would like to change the amplifier module because probably the problem exists on amplification
Hi thanks for this very little about repairing them on the internet. Did your fix work, video doesn't show it working at the end installed and working? Made me laugh thank you some practice needed holding the camera to show us where your pointing...but I got the gist. Also are you saying if you would have soldiered the red n black wires back on then they would have worked? As the speakers in the exhaust are waterproof, just poorly terminated? PS I have the same looking exhaust on my SQ5 and believe it to be faulty speakers too...your fix looks great. Do you know the wattage of the OEM ones for comparison?
Thanks Don't think wheeler dealers will be offering me a job though 😊 Be assured the repair was a great success, it's great to have the exhaust rumble back! There is 2 videos one opening the pod and one welding back up. The speaker terminals had corroded away so instead of using again I soldered thought they would be better. I think the pioneer speakers are 100w 8 ohm but you could look the part number up. Yes they will be fine for your Q5, and it will save you £s, it cost me £57 with the exhaust hangers.
These exhausts shouldn't exist
Amen
They should exist , but should be used for active noise cancellation .

Have a look on Maserati or Audi sq5 forum for contact details
How's about angle grind that whole stupid thing off. Embarrassing
I can see this happening to battery cars next, it would be just like attaching an amp and 2 speakers now that would be even more embarrassing!
