I can't shake the thought of them creating a hybrid Mario kart/ Mario Journey (?) in a Forza or that new open world Sonic game. Where there would be plenty of themed lands that offer collect-a-thon platforming but also, to travers to different lands in the (hopefully) planet sized game map, procedurally generated Kart Tracks would span oceans/plains/deserts. In a WindWaker style, the longer journeys would end up being loading tracks for the next world to pop in.
The sad and worrying thing is the fact that Nintendo consoles go in a pattern, success, not so great, success, not so great, so on and so fourth. Hopefully Nintendo can reverse that and get back to back successes.
I think you undersell a bit how massive SMO was for the series. Also I'm not entirely sure an open world Mario makes as much sense as an open world Zelda because it relies on levels being very different in terms of themes and biomes etc. where Zelda has always been one cohesive world only cut into bits because of technical limitations. I'd l9ve to see a seamless Mario but I don't think it can be as huge and iconic as BotW. Regarding Mario Kart, I think that one big argument that MK8 DX had that the next one may not was its gargantuan content thanks to the inclusion of the WiiU DLC. Thanks to that it felt like a very good deal too. Can the starting amount of cups and tracks MK8dx had at launch be the new "normal" and MK9 launch with as much ? Honestly, I have my doubts. So the new Mario Kart will probably have to compensate a possible lack of content with being entirely new and exciting. It's possible it will do so, but it will likely have a bit of a handicap imho.
I think bowser’s fury already drove away the excitement a little. Breath of the wild expose a completely fresh franchise(besides long time fans) to casuals, that intrigue can be replicated by donkey Kong. Besides, there are more continuity to DK. Mario Kart have high sells because every who was already bought the system got it, not the system seller like breath of wild or animal crossing was, hence it either be a double launch with DK or year 1 title.
The next year 2025 is going to be MASSIVE for Nintendo with the new Nintendo Switch console that might be revealved in march-april 2025 and relase october-november 2025 and next year there is a lot of AWESOME games: Donkey Kong Country Returns HD Port, Pokémon Legends ZA, Mario Kart 9, Metroid Prime 4 Beyond and Super Mario Galaxy 3, Odyssey 2, Journey or Adventure can't wait i'm so excited for the next year Here we GOO WAHOO: Be prepared! 😊❤

I jusr realized: first Mario 3d Land, Then 3D World, Next 3D Galaxy (Basically Galaxy 3) it would be perfect and its probably not going to happen but it would be fun.

Would people buy a console just for a Mario game? I doubt it. However they would for a Zelda game. The Wii launched with a Zelda game, WiiU launched with what? Gamecube launched with what? MarioKart does sell will but it does not sale consoles which is why WiiU never sold well.
And a new Mario! Metroid prime 4 is also releasing on switch 1. Plus Metroid isn’t a popular as Mario so Nintendo is most likely to have a Mario game for a launch title.
I don’t know if people would be as excited for an open world Mario as they were for an open world Zelda. Mario is the bigger franchise, but it’s bigger for its gameplay. It’s fun, it’s accessible, everyone can have a blast with a Mario game. Zelda is big for many reasons, but one of the foremost is the world, atmosphere, and lore, which is usually what people love most about open world games like Skyrim. I’m not sure if tens of millions of people will be salivating at the mouth to be immersed in the Mushroom Kingdom. I may want that and you may want that, but I think that desire is more of a Nintendo fan thing. It would be very popular, but it might not blow up like Breath of the Wild.
BOTW SUCKED!!! Keep classic Zelda!!! I'll agree(it was a success and sold HUGE copies), but from someone whose been playing since the very first one in 1986(WHY change something that isn't broken! IMHO)

Galaxy 3 is more of a Switch 2 title. Galaxy 2 HD is more of a Switch 1 title.
