The police, the news channel, the car guys who all kept their eyes open....the only bad part to this story is the f-ing thieves who took it are still on the loose (perhaps) because since this happened, any of the career criminals who are in for grand theft auto may have been the perps that took yours. We can only hope. Maybe a finger print will match up or even a witness will turn them out as part of a plea bargain to save their own skin. Who knows?

Don't you know what police would do? They would have brought a flatbed back there and winched it onto the truck all while probably ripping the bumper off and doing other damage to the car, common sense would be to get it out yourself
They will call a tow truck if you ask but ideally you want to drive it out because tow trucks can do more damage. Plus it isn't the cops job to spend 6 hours digging a car out of the brush they are busy trying to catch the guy who put it in there in the first place.

Your country is strange. Over here you only get charged by public services if you happened to break the law. Police, Ambulance and Fire Department services are paid for with tax money and therefore free for any citizen.
You do know that the PD will have to refund your money as you were the victim of a crime. If you had to pay impound fees then you are entitled to compensation.

Back when I was a kid some dumb thief stole my dads truck. It was a 1990 Nissan POS not worth shit as it was a roofing work truck. Taken at like 5 AM on a Saturday and found days later. Guy that stole it lived in the area and his wife/girl was caught driving it literally around the block. Woman claims she didn't know it was stolen never mind that you could change gears without having to press the button in or that she was using a badly filed key. Funnyest part is that my step brother (that had just gotten out for many GTA's in prison) knew the guy. Went o his house and beat the shit out of him.

The question I'm sure a lot of us want to ask is, did the original detailer re-detail the car for you? Did you do it yourself? Or did you pay another shop to do the work?
Why don't they use electric heaters and fans to dry the cars instead of wrecking your engine by leaving it ticking over and wasting your fuel? At very least they should clamp/chain the steering wheel.

Ah, this whole incident takes me back. Many years ago, when I was young and financially even more disorganized than I am now, I missed a couple of payments and my car got repossessed. (Man, that looks misspelled, but I'm pretty sure it's not.) I paid it off, but before I had a chance to go and collect it from the repo agency, someone _stole it from their impound lot._ The cops found it a couple of days later, all beat to hell and abandoned in a ditch in the next county over. The insurance companies argued about that for months.
So, your ML was stolen, they have pictures of the guy who stole it driving it, and they had him in custody for something else but couldn't be bothered to do anything about it and let him go?! I'm glad you got your ML back, but it sounds like the police let you down pretty hard, man. I was working at a large main dealer and was doing a pre-delivery inspection on a new car well inside the workshop. Went for lunch when I come back car had gone I thought someone was playing a prank but no someone had walked in and drove off in it and despite 30 odd people being about at the time nobody see a thing only the cctv see it drive off. The dumb thing was the thief lived just half a mile away and one of our guys spotted it a few days later parked outside his house he hand not even change the plates on it

So, your ML was stolen, they have pictures of the guy who stole it driving it, and they had him in custody for something else but couldn't be bothered to do anything about it and let him go?! I'm glad you got your ML back, but it sounds like the police let you down pretty hard, man. Nice of him to hold your camera, but I'd have been more interested in seeing the douchebag who stole it behind bars.

the car thieves in wichita seem to only like to joy ride. If this truck was stolen in So Cal it would have been stripped in a matter of hours. You have some nice car thieves in the midwest!

That thing is surprisingly capable off-road.
I was working at a large main dealer and was doing a pre-delivery inspection on a new car well inside the workshop. Went for lunch when I come back car had gone I thought someone was playing a prank but no someone had walked in and drove off in it and despite 30 odd people being about at the time nobody see a thing only the cctv see it drive off. The dumb thing was the thief lived just half a mile away and one of our guys spotted it a few days later parked outside his house he hand not even change the plates on it
hope the detailing shop didn't charged you for detailing your AMG!! it's their fault why it was stolen in the first place..
I hope they have upped their insurance cover and installed an extractor system so they can leave the car running with the shutter down.
