    I love that Meatloaf took this interview seriously. He could have phoned it in, but he took being interviewed by a teenage contest winner as seriously as a professional interview and turned it into a really lovely conversation. Sweet and sincere. Love it

    That’s an example of a celebrity who never believed in his own legend. Fact is, he was a fantastic artist, and gave James the best true advice he could. Probably one of the best video clips next to George Michael. Bravo James ..

    I love love love this!!!!! I was blessed to know Meat from waaaay back in 1976 and loved him and was able to talk with him many times over the years! He thanked me for being a fan by putting me in Paradise by the Dasboard Light for his Storytellers and pulled hubby i0 on stage to sing with him on NYE of the millennium. I started following him at the beginning and stayed for the end which has come far, far too soon! Meat and Jim Steinman will be writing gorgeous songs together again!!

  • @beenaplumber8379
    @beenaplumber8379 2 ปีที่แล้ว +65

    Meat Loaf was so much larger than life. He never took himself too seriously, he was funny, and he could wrestle a car! (Anyone remember that movie? Americathon, I think?) And the music he left behind is some of the most expressive, sophisticated, subtle, and compelling rock music ever. And very loud. Usually. Some people made fun of the sweaty fat guy with long hair, but they couldn't deny his artistry. Celebrity deaths rarely affect me, but I'm real sad about losing him. Maybe it's because it really pissed off my dad in the 70s that I was such a fan. Meat Loaf was not what a rock star was supposed to look like, and in a way, that was the point. He defied the standards, carved out his own identity and forced people to deal with it because he was that damn good. And now we've seen another more personal side of him - a class act all the way. RIP Meat Loaf, and RIP Jim Steinman.

    • @pennyduncan6861
      @pennyduncan6861 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Very well said. You echoed my thoughts. I loved Two Out of Three Ain't Bad, and took in a number of midnight Rocky Horror showings, but when I saw him on MTV in 82, I was mesmerized. He left it all on stage. Jim Steinman was my favorite songwriter and no one delivered those songs with more heart, passion and emotion than Meat Loaf. We have lost a humble legend.

    • @timmmahhhh
      @timmmahhhh 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well said, his passion very much made up for any shortcomings one may have perceived. And I remember watching Americathon several times on HBO. He was the best part of the movie, coming out as the Car Killer. I still remember him mouthing "oh sh!t" when that big scary car came for him. Weird movie at the time but some of it came true that we could had ever imagined, I mean really China having that much influence? That seemed like a joke that would never happen. The United Hebrab Republic though was the stretch we thought it would be.

      RIP Meatloaf, I loved your Music, loved your long hair in a tail and when you cut the sides short, you were so Handsome, One Beautiful Man and Sweet to all people, my Son kinda got me in to your music and others, cause I never got to listen to a lot of music when I divorced at 28, we kinda grew up together and I loved the music, I was a late bloomer with all the music!! You will be missed for sure!

    Even then, James was asking great questions and holding his own. He was so awkward but not intimidated-- and Meat Loaf was so respectful and sincere. How many artists on his level would ever care about who's interviewing him? Very little. This is a treasure and I'm so glad he shared it with us!
