    I was trying to refit my di2 6870 after a cage change late at night. I was going insane because it was just hanging there. One quick watch of your video and I saw how you had to load up the spring, job done, too easy. I just wish I had have watched it before I started 2 hours earlier!! lol

    Very helpful, particularly on how to get the spring to tension the cage in the proper direction. Removing the screw so that the cage can swing past was crucial for me when installing the Rockbros OSPS on a Durace derailleur. The instructions provided by Rockbros were poorly explained and written in the worst Chenglish I've ever encountered. Thanks

    You’re awesome for sharing this!! I have gone through two rear derailleurs in the last two weeks. What a coincidence. The first one I smashed into my spokes squeezing between two rocks and just yesterday a stick threaded it’s way through my jockey wheels and into the spokes and pulled my derailleur backwards. Ugh!! The horror. No I have a race in 9 days and am scrambling to find another. None on eBay. But I have a old one I can take apart thanks to your video.

    Great video! Remember not to mix up your pulley wheels. The top one is the guide pulley (G-pulley) and the lower one is the tension pulley (T-pulley). They look very similar but on more expensive mechs are different, as they both do different jobs.

    • @michaelchanky
      @michaelchanky 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      additional question, so basically I have a rotor Qrings 52/39 with 11/28 cassette, which mean if I change to 11/32, it needs to have a longer chain? The chain still fresh now btw.

    • @CyclingSatan
      @CyclingSatan  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So you will likely need to replace the chain. But go ahead and see if your chain will take the new cassette. You will know that it is so long if your rear derailleur is basically straight.

      Sorry, I did not give much for details. You need to buy the inner and the outer separately. Total cost is $30.00 for the M8000 SGS plates. However, as you can buy the complete M8000 SGS derailleur for $61.00, the next time I ordered, I just got the whole derailleur just in case I had previously caused any trauma to the derailleur when I bent the cage plates. When I got it, it appeared to be a genuine Shimano OEM part.

    Very practical and helpful video. Have you inspected the compatibility of different cages between derailleurs? Do you have to know the exact model of your derailleur to get the right cage model? I'd need to replace a cheap Altus derailleur cage with a shorter one to a 20" kids bike where there is used a long cage derailleur that almost touches the ground with the lowest gear on. Customizing this cheap derailleur might sound ridiculous but, by a quick look, I did not find cheap derailleurs with mid or short cage and buying an expensive derailleur for a kids bike feel like waste of money.

      @CyclingSatan  5 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @CyclingSatan
      @CyclingSatan  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ryan Johnson, to answer your question, maybe. It depends on how much slack is in your chain. I would normally advise you to just put a new chain on Reasons: 1) it's always good to have a fresh chain on your bike. 2) most likely there isn't enough slack in your current chain to make it work.
      If your want to try and make it work watch the video by ParkTool company on how to put on a new chain and watch the part for sizing the new chain. If you want more info I'm happy to help.

    • @rhino007a

      Derek Goronson Hi again, great instructions for changing the cage to long and I managed that no problem. I took the bike to a local shop and it seemed to work fine on the original chain but he didn't like the angles. He changed it and the chain wouldn't move after about 2/3rd up the cassette. He added some links back but now when on 32 T there is a grinding noise. If he physically held the derailleur cage more vertical then the noise goes, but in its natural position it returns ; any ideas please?

    • @CyclingSatan
      @CyclingSatan  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ryan Johnson, glad you got the cage switched out. About your grinding issue. I'm not totally sure what it could be. My best guess from your description is that the derailleur ganger is bent. What frame do you have? If it had a derailleur hanger then generally that is a cheap and easy thing to have changed out. I have had bend derailleur hangers that cause all kinds of problems to the rear end of the bike. Everything from grinding gears, skipping chain, and even having a whole derailleur getting sucked into a wheel.
      Another possible thing it could be is that something is tightened to much. Check the hockey wheel bolts.
      If you have a new chain, in damaged derailleur hanger, and properly tuned shifting then everything should be fine. It odd that the shop mechanic coined the diagnose the issue considering it worked fine before they worked on it. Do you have more info? Maybe ask another mechanic if the things I mentioned all check out.

    • @CyclingSatan

      There should be no lateral play. If there is some lateral movement something is lose.

    As the shimano 105 is short, I'm thinking of replacing it with Shimano deore M8000 long cage. This is because I want to change to 11-42t from 11-28t. Are they compatible and can it be done? I'm just tired pushing the bike when going uphills

    • @CyclingSatan
      @CyclingSatan  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      As far as I understand, Shimano 105 is only compatible with Shimano 105, Ultegra is only compatible with Ultegra, so on and so forth. So unfortunately you wont be able to make that switch unless you have the same model. WHile Deore is a fine product, it is affordable and it wouldn't make sense to buy a new derailleur just to switch a cage out. You have two options.
      1) Buy a new derailleur with the correct cage length.
      2) Buy a used derailleur online that is the exact model you have but with the longer cage and switch it out or use that used derailleur if its in good enough shape.
      Again, it would probably be best to just buy a new Diore M8000 derailleur as you can likely spend very little. Gearing is really important so it would be money well invested and defiantly help you get up those hills:) Hope this help you out. Cheers.
