I use a paper punch to punch out round discs from painters masking tape. I then stick the disc over the eye to protect them while in the painting stage. Fast and simple. As usual, great video and info.
I love your videos so much. For anyone that works with materials these are really informative. I wanted to ask if youd possibly do a video on your awesome pressure regulator set up. I really enjoy looking at your studio space.
Busy trying to make a living I suppose. Few folks realize that keeping a You Tube channel going is supper time consuming and its not free. I miss his vids too.
Copper one sounds (and, from what I've seen looks) like a fantistic paintjob. I don't know about the others but I can only see the video at 480p max and it doesn't do your work justice so if you see this comment and if you still have the lure, maybe you could show it off in a future video, or maybe even revisit the paint scheme on Fatbelly or some other lure. Again, from what I see it's 10/10 work but 480p doesn't do it justice.
Great videos! What poly acrylic clear do you recommend to seal the chrome? I seen your video that you used future floor polish over the spaz stix. Which do you use over spray chrome? Thanks!
If you mean the silver plate style of spray chrome, I use the floor wax. But I also use two part automotive clear if I am doing a lot of lures at one time.
Hi excelent videos! Very instructive! I use 2k automotive clear coat for giving extra protection for my saltwater lures and I bought an airbrush, some valejo transparent and I am now just starting to test some paintings. Man its hard! My objective is for now to grab some lures that i bought with metalic holographic cover and colour them to achive golden and transparents greens and blues. Problem is that they have the original clear coat and the paint doesn't stick well. Any advice on how to remove clear coat without damaging holographic effect? Thanks again!
You don't need to remove the clear. You can use fine steel wool to knock the shine off and key it for the paint. All the tiny scratches will disappear when you clear coat over your work. Good luck and thank you for watching.
What part of Florida are you in ? I happen to be in Jacksonville. Thanks for the tips. If I can’t go fishing, I’m making lures or at least talking about fishing. Part of the fun is making my own tools n such. Been working with powder paints and excited to get started with acrylics. Limited only by imagination. Thanks again
Another great video. Beautiful paint job! I've recently bought an airbrush and compressor (haven't tried it yet) and was looking for paint. That same set you bought from Amazon is $66.75 here in Canada from Amazon. $66.75 for 24 ounces of paint! Maybe that's why I haven't tried my airbrush yet. Lol
You can use what is called interference paint. It is clear acrylic paint with metallic green flecks suspended You could mist the lure lightly with an interference green airbrush paint over top of the paint job. Give a very nice finish.
transparent paints do two things, they allow the reflection from the chrome to come through and they allow you to blend colors on the surface of the lure so that blue over yellow gives an iridescent green.
Sorry, hope I’m not getting annoying, haha but can I paint over a dipped lure? I’m trying to get the best glossy black to paint chrome over, so was thinking of dipping, painting then dipping again. Or should I just spray a clear coat over black? Thank you for your help.
Unfortunately both Spaz Stix and Looking Glass tend to get dull. But, the silver plating stays looking just like the ones in the video. Thank you for watching.
Are they just called badger transparent? I really like the Vallejo mecha paints they’re for models and collectibles but they are airbrush ready and shoot really well. But kinda pricy. Always thanks for the videos
I am still struggling with clear coat 😢 it seems I cant make it cure properly, maybe I should build a lure turner uv cabin like yours, so I could apply a generous amount of resin... Dipping them is not helping me I still cant find the right uv lamps here in Brazil and the weak winter sun isn't making it work either I don't know how much of this struggle is my fault or the resin's fault
@@EngineeredAngler I have a big limitation on supplies here, lure making is also very underdeveloped, I'm trying to figure out my "national equivalents" on so much stuff 😂
I am just in the process of how to paint some chrome and holographic lures I just got. Perfect timing. Thx
Perfect!
I can not wait to try what you have done ! May I also say you are really easy to listen to and one smart fella. Cheers mate
Wow... thanks so much

The murky water Copper is beautiful! Well done!
Thanks. ..I really like it
Beautifully done
Thank you! Cheers!
Very cool colors. Will have to get a box and tryy6 them.
Again, thanks for the video. I always look for you to post and enjoy watching them. Very informative.
I appreciate that!
Very very pretty lures 😍
Thank you so much.
Excellent I am inspired to attempt to what you just did
Thanks for watching...and have fun.
Nice have you tried the different colour hairdressing foil gold green blue red pink violet yellow after applying use a little brasso and wow.
Those came out amazing!
Thank you! Cheers!

Thank you. ..I can do a video that shows my high pressure air system. It would be easy and there are others who might be interested.
@@EngineeredAngler I love your videos, just saw it posted! Thank you so much! Hope you are staying safe during this strange time!
Use clear adhesion promoter by rust-oleum before applying the transparent paint on chrome to prevent the peeling 👍👍👌
Great video!
Thanks!
Looks good mate
Thanks 👍
Hi Chico! I miss Paul's videos so much! He was my first "instructor" on lure making! Thanks for sharing 🙏🏻
Fun stuff to watch dude!! Thx and stay safe.
Why doesn’t he make videos anymore?

Great looking paint jobs, fish catchers for sure! It's tough to paint that chrome finish and keep that mirror effect!
For sure!
very cool look!

Very nice. What color did you use for copper?
I put a link in the description for the Badger Paints I used.
Yes I bought that set. Just wasn't sure what particular color you used. I will try the golden yellow. Thanks

Oh man! I would just keep looking for a better deal on paint...good luck. And thank you for watching.
How will the durability of these be? Will they flake off on impact?
As good or better than anything off the shelf.
Any idea how to get a color changing effect like holographic?
here's a video that might help. th-cam.com/video/UOcPAQasVP4/w-d-xo.html

If you wanted to make a root beer color with the copper, how would you apply the green glitter?

nice video!!!!!
Thanks!
Do based water paint works on plastic I thi k I bought the grone one did I
Based water
Yes...I use water based airbrush paints.
What different finish will you get using a transparent vs translucent paint over chrome? Thanks.
transparent paints do two things, they allow the reflection from the chrome to come through and they allow you to blend colors on the surface of the lure so that blue over yellow gives an iridescent green.
@@EngineeredAngler thank u much!

I would just spray the clear over the black.
If you spray them colours over your sprayed chrome does the clear coat still dull it all at the end? Good videos enjoying them 👍

There , good as new😂
Hi
How can I paint with pigment powder? Can You help me?
Thanks for all
Pigments need to be put into a medium like a clear or white paint or even clear resin. They can also be added to soft plastic for molding.
@@EngineeredAngler Thanks!
Hello! what material do you use to seal the wood and eliminate imperfections before painting? how do you apply this? thank you very much
I use two part resin...usually two coats, sanding between coats.
Are they just called badger transparent? I really like the Vallejo mecha paints they’re for models and collectibles but they are airbrush ready and shoot really well. But kinda pricy. Always thanks for the videos
Check out the link in the description. Thank you for watching.
what was the set of paint that you had I'd like to get a set for myself.
thanks they look amazing
Check description...I put the link to the item in Amazon.
would Createx Candy2o work as well?
Candy paints work best over reflective surfaces so yes...they give a really nice look.
Very good finish, what about India colors that used for color building paint ?
They also work well, but are not quite as transparent.
Engineered Angler thank you for your reply, what about refill ink for printers it is totally transparent?
I try to airbrush it very good but not dry fast ( ink mate ) ?
Never considered it....
That meat you no recommended it
What pressure do you use for those paints and is there anything different for getting the airbrush ready for them?
I was spraying at 20psi. They spray smooth with no issues. They are a bit harder to clean, after they dry, than most paints.
I am still struggling with clear coat 😢 it seems I cant make it cure properly, maybe I should build a lure turner uv cabin like yours, so I could apply a generous amount of resin... Dipping them is not helping me

I got it at a fabric store. $1 a yard!

Very nice, what airbrush are you using?
This one is my Iwata Eclipse.
You can't paint directly over the chrome. Use some adhesion promoter!
