I've used nail polish airbrushed for quite a few years! Works great for specific metallics! My absolute favorite brands are ESSIE and OPI. Expensive ones! The biggest disadvantages are: they like to discontinue colors and no longer have suitable replacements! Also, I can't stand the color names, haha, terrible dad joke puns for the color names! I use walmart purchased lacquer thinner to thin as well as clean the airbrush. My favorite metallic was NO PLACE LIKE CHROME, lol

I’ve tried quite a few nail polishes also. The OPI line has some amazing colors. I live in Ft Lauderdale so I can look at nail polish in Ulta without getting any strange looks😳. The best part of nail polish is the chameleon or mystic colors. They’re expensive to buy in almost any form of car or model paint but in nail polish they’re only a few dollars and by the time you reduce them, you can usually get enough to paint a 1/24 car model. That blue and purple you have, look amazing.

Here's a tip to save even more: in the Walmart Paint department, Jasco/Kleen-Strip acetone sells for $9.64 per quart (where I am) and Rust-Oleum acetone sells for $11.44/qt. But in the Beauty department, Onyx Professional 100% Pure Acetone is $2.53 per pint. Two pints equals 1 quart, so $5.06 per quart. Just be sure it's the 100% pure and not just "Nail Polish Remover".

It's been a long time since I've ordered any (I used to use it to lift the ink from official MTG and Pokemon cards, then design my own customs with the blank foil cards), but I can confirm that this was the case. I always bought Onyx Professional in 16 oz. (1 pint) bottles, and while it's been a couple years, they were $2.48 per bottle then on Amazon. They cost about $9 per pint on Amazon now, though (luckily I have a back stock of 4 unopened bottles from back then). I'll have to check my local Wally World to see their pricing, though. If you can get it for 2.53 there, then I sure as hell won't ever restock through Amazon.

I've been using a 70/30 ratio of thinner to paint. I've found that Odorless Mineral Spirits works nicely. I've sprayed at 30psi in really light mist coats and build a finish. I typically spray over a silver or gold base coat as these colors are really transparent, treating them like a candy color :). Great video!

I'm not going to lie, but I'm not too impressed with the results from this test. The blue and purple look kinda nice over black, but only if you're looking for a sort of subtle black colorshift effect. (Black with a slight color when looking at it in certain angles).

Why’s your air filter pointed the opposite way in the booth with the arrow out? With nail polish a lot of the metallics are sheer unless you buy the expensive brands, the flakes are the color and the pigment is minimal. The clears that are labeled as base, like the one you used in the video, are thin enough to spray with no thinning even though you thinned yours.
