I love hearing Barry's and Robin's incredible full voices! This song shows Mo's beautiful and powerful voice too - all so necessary in their fabulous harmonies. Beautiful! I listened to them for all their years except the youngest but have gone back to listen to them over the years as an adult (not a teen). I love all the phases and talent and respect them for everything they did. Like watching her face at the points I love the most in their voices.
LOVE and respect the Bee Gees. They certainly worked their butts off to be able to have the hit songs they had over 5 decades. They deserve the accolades! And I love watching younger people enjoy and analyze their music and methods. The voices and harmony of those brothers was a gift from God.
I loved them pre-disco a bit more as well. Nights on Broadway is my favourite BeeGees song. They are so masterful with their harmonies. So lovely.
Barry has said this is his all-time favorite song the BeeGees ever performed. Barry's natural voice has a range from baritone to mid-tenor. (The late) Robin's natural voice was really more encompassing of the full tenor spectrum, while Robin's twin brother, (the late) Maurice, ranged from bass to baritone and was a master of harmonizing. Barry claims his first real adventure in singing falsetto was when they recorded "Nights on Broadway" in 1975. It went over so well, they incorporated that falsetto sound into their future heyday of hit, after hit, after iconic and amazing hit. At one time, they had 4 songs in the Top-10, 3 of them were in the Top-5.
Maurice also sang high tenor on most of their songs.

I loved the pre-disco Bee Gees Their music was so much more varied and displayed their incredible vocal range Robin took the lead in many of their early songs too His voice is incredible.
THEY SUCK. I grew up in the 70's and have heard more than my fill of disco. Please stop....the 70's ended for a freaking reason. (Please take note that i did not cuss.) But i sooo wanted to.
This is the better version of the Bee Gees for me too. In general, I like the baroque-influenced pop compositions of this era much better than anything disco.

Well you have Eric Clapton to blame. He told the Bee Gees to get Americanized. So they went to America and changed their music and Barry took
his falsetto to the front and well the rest is history. So thank Eric Clapton or hate him because he is the guy who told the Bee Gees stop doing what
your doing and go to America.
@@32a34a and if he hadnt the Bee Gees would not have survived. Before moving to Miami they were not selling records and had to adapt. They had 6 number ones in a row, it is a business, they definitely made the right decision.
I love listening to you explain. Barry and Robin wrote this song for Ottis Redding a soul singer, so it was very R&B. Ottis Redding died in a plane crash in 1967 before he could record this record. The Bee Gees ended up sing ing it themselves. They stayed amazingly relevant. Their music in the 1990's was some of my favorite even the 2000's.
To be clear - Otis never heard the song. They had one meeting about Barry writing him a song and a few months later Redding died without having any idea about what the song was.
Please show more Bee Gees your insight is impeccable. And a joy to hear. Too Much Heavan or How Deep is you love. This is no doubt the most talented and successful family group in history.
I've heard that song 100 times and NEVER noticed how he doesn't finish "somebody". What an excellent call out and how they worked so well together.

A recording tech said once he asked Barry to re-do a section e few times, so he could pick and choose the best bits to use. He sang the same section with No variations, note perfect, same timing, 5 times in a row. How is that for musical excellence, instincts and performance. That is why they sound the same live. He did get sick of the falsetto, saId so, his bros said it's still working, so he kept on with it.
Wow they are so young... I had to look it up... Barry was only 20-21 and the twins 17-18 in 1967.

Been a fan since almost their beginnings…. Got their 2 greatest hits records for my birthday in either 75 or 76….
Have you seen their performance of “Massachusetts” on (I think) the Parkinson show? Impromptu version with just a guitar. Absolutely stunning.
And then in the 2000s, came an album called “man in the middle” which had some terrific songs on it. So they kept making great music in the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, and 00s. Not bad for a band that “nobody liked”.
Thanks for this!! I liked what you said at the end - yes I grew up w/ the Bee Gees. Dad bringing home the albums (He was a DJ so always the latest albums and concerts even when I was 5.) BUt the mid 70's the Bee Gee's were looking for a new sound. I believe you saw the "Mr. Natural videos and that era just before Jive Talkin - some very good never really heard before material. This was really Robin's era. Look up "Alone Again" on Midnight special.. or "Mr Natural" on Mike Douglas show.. You can see them changing right there.. Love it!!!
Horizontal from the album of the same name is one of my favorite early BeeGees songs. Very underrated. Also Lemons Never Forget i think youll be surprised how good these teenagers could write and perform early on. Love your reactions. Dont stop ❤❤

There's just something special about brothers singing together and the beautiful blended sound they create.
I saw a special on The Bee Gees and the commentator said something I've pondered and never forgotten. When you have voices that are biologically related, they create a harmony that produces a sound like a well tuned instrument, like an instrument that never existed before.
I find that especially true of the Bee Gees, especially since they were harmonizing with each other before, during and after their voices changed.

Barry had so may different singing voices, he was like at least three lead singers in one. Thanks for pointing that out. He loved to play with different volumes, textures, tones, etc. I have never figured out why they have Maurice lip syncing Robin's ad lib at the end, but of course, that's Robin's unmistakable voice.
That really is Maurice singing the high part throughout the song, even at the end.
@@drubostic3854 True, Maurice does sing the high harmony throughout the song, but those solo ad lib lines "ahhh." at the end, that's all Robin. He signs that part whenever they sing it live.

I love this early Bee Gees because it was blues, before they (more or less) created Disco. I don't hate disco now, but back then I was not ready.

The pre-disco Bee Gees are the only Bee Gees i love. Great songwriting that sometimes equalled Lennon/McCartney. Fantastic harmonies. It's a shame that so many reaction channels only listen to the disco tunes.

The Disco Bee Gees was the only Disco I could listen to.
What is interesting about this song is that Maurice at the very end takes the high part of the harmony - he always usually sang the low register of the 3 part harmony, but he could switch from one part to another seamlessly.
It is why Barry said they couldn't carry on as the "Bee Gees" when Maurice died.
Yes, Mo was integral to their sound. He changed his voice to make their harmony perfect.
Robyn left the group in the early days but Barry and Mo made an album.
When Mo died, so did the Bee Gees.

Ah... the late 60s. Nothing, dress-wise, was too crazy to wear! Here we see lush paisley fabric for Barry's coat coupled with (gasp!) wide striped bell bottom pants. Kind of the Baroque Look. Etcetera. It was crazy... it was outrageous... and damn, it sure was Fun !!!

I have not yet seen a reaction to the Bee Gees' FANNY (Be Tender With My Love)...reactionists, specially those with sound recording knowledge, and even musical/chorale directors should listen to this, because it is the only song that they have never done live due to the technical complexity involved when they recorded it. Also, this song was one of three hit singles from their transition album MAIN COURSE, as it was in their single NIGHTS on BROADWAY where they first discovered and put to substantial use Barry's falsetto. This album was truly BALLAD Bee Gees to R&B, eventually evolving into music that would be mistakenly identified as disco.
This song was half written before they left Australia to seek fame overseas. I know because I own the sheet of paper that the boys used. When they left Australia they took about 25 songs they had already written or were in the process of doing. I also own around 30 songs they did record here in Hurstville Studios, Sydney that have never been released.

This was in Australia. The guys got their start here and first No.1 hit with Spicks and Specks. Their dad quit hit job and drove the boys around, singing wherever they could. They had a lot of TV appearances so by the time they went back to England they had honed their craft.
Barry destroyed his voice singing falsetto, which Maurice could sing naturally. Barry was the bossy boots LOL. Maurice should have been used far more than he was.
One of my favorite Reactors and a great choice to present - pre disco BeeGees are very very underrated. I always thought the emotion they projected in their songs was better than most performers that just seem to sing a song, Listening to this (and many of their others) feels like they lived the song, not just sang it. My old Choir Director (trained from Eastman School of music) said he thought Meatloaf's For Crying Out Loud (studio version) was the greatest male vocal performance ever - I think it would be a great reaction choice for you and to hear f you agree. Disco may have saved the Bee Gees career for another decade or so but the pre disco Bee Gees was awesome for rock and roll and they were certainly a major player in the British Invasion grew up listening to this and though I wasn't a disco fan they became the high water mark in Disco in my humble opinion
They wrote over 1,000 Songs for themselves and others.At least 100 of them were top hits.Many qritten after the Disco Era.

Check out the Live version of Nights on Broadway from the show Saturday Night Special. Berry doesn't use the falsetto and I think that Maurice who uses his, has the better falsetto out of the 2 of them

Hey, must say this was such a great pleasure to hear your analysis, so thanxalot from a die-hard Bee Gees fan since 1967, when I heard them first as a 13 year old boy. Was like thunder and lightning to me, so never before such voice-abilities came to my ear. So let me giveya a string of songs over the decades, to build up your mind about these tracks. It's only one out of the sixties up to 2001. 'Let There Be Love' (1969), 'Had A Lot Of Love Tonight' (1972), 'Ordinary People' (1988), 'For Whom The Bell Tolls' (1992) and 'Wedding Day' (2001). I'm sure, you'll have lotsafun!

We watched these guys grow up on Australian TV in the 60s. A few years before this performance I saw the in a rock and roll tent show at the Sydney Royal Easter Show.
Its cute how this youngster doesn't realize that all these old tv shows were entirely lip synched. She thinks the brothers Gibb are singing live, but this is identical in every way to the original studio recording. 😉

Back in the 60's they didn't even know they could sing falsetto
I love it when the analyzer doesn't know the history of an artist and just assumes they changed their music style because they "grew" as artists. The Bee Gees broke up not too long after this because Robin was jealous that Barry was getting all the attention and singing lead and wanted to be a solo artist. When they reunited a few years later they were struggling commerciallyl and almost lost their record deal. It was Robert Stigwood who told them they needed to write some popular music, have some hits or they were going to lose their record deal. They had already written and recorded most of what became the soundtrack to Saturday Night Fever when Stigwood convinced them to let the music be used in the movie to maximize exposure for their new album. The rest, as they say, is history. So yeah, 50 years later it looks deliberate - but it wasn't that way at all.

The Bee Gees knew how to evolve during the decades, not just with their singing, but also with their writing of songs. What we sometimes forget is the number of songs that the Bee Gees wrote for other artists that also became well known hits. You can go back a lot earlier to when they began on TV in Australia in the late 1950's where they performed on Australia's version of Bandstand hosted by Brian Henderson.

I grew up with this great group & had a lot of their albums. Most people react to their disco era. My favorites are from the 60's-70's. Some of their early hits were "New York Mining Disaster 1941", "Holiday", "World", "And The Sun Will Shine", "Really & Sincerely", "The Singer Sang His Song", "Lonely Days", "Melody Fair", "First Of May", "I Started A Joke", "I've Gotta Get A Message To You", "Massachusetts" etc.

This particular performance is a lip sync to the official record. However, the Bee Gees were very good fully live as well, and you can find fully live performances on TH-cam. It's just that most of the early ones are more obscure songs. They do sing some of their old songs in later live performances though.

I saw the Bee Gees live at the Municipal Auditorium in Nashville, TN in the early to mid-1970s. The Nashville Symphony Orchestra was their backup. I never liked the disco stuff they did, but I loved the older music.
You should listen to their 1989 Medley where they sing a lot of their songs live without much backup music.
