I was originally skeptical but this video is 100% accurate. I have low and medium pile carpets. I also have a V15 Detect. I can tell you that with the V15 I always have on AUTO and the medium pile have gate in middle and works perfectly. On the low pile I fully close gate and get great cleaning. I just bought the Gen5 and will be returning to the store. The suction and/or brush on the floor attachment won't operate properly. Keeps on shutting down. Hardwood floors, not an issue, just if you have carpet is where the problem occurs.
I just had the same experience after testing out by brand new Gen5 Detect. The motorized carpet cleaning heads bogs down and stalls out on any settings other than eco. Vacuum seems great otherwise. Not sure what to do.
I’ve been comparing the V15 Detect Extra (Canadian model) vs the gen5 at home because of Black Friday sales, I digress. The trigger on the V15 makes it easier to stop and go if the vacuum gets stuck on the carpet. The gen5 will stay on and keeps the suction going but the motor in the brush stops until you power on and off which is annoying as there’s no trigger to just quickly release and then keep going.

Seeing this video after buying my wife the gen5 detect for Christmas, I was a little concerned as we have thick, shaggy carpet. However, we haven't had any issues at all. This thing breezes through everything, even with the gates at the default/medium setting. Maybe this guy just got a dud, or they've improved the design since? Ours has been excellent in every way. Truly, an impressive piece of machinery. 👍 Hopefully, it'll last for years to come!
Glad you like it! They seem to work on thick carpets especially with a porous breathable backing, they seem to struggle with low pile and medium pile carpets unfortunately especially ones without a porous breathable backing
Just watched another video, dude mentioned don't lock gate fully, keep mid open and use Auto, it should provide equal suction or more than the regular v15.
Thank you for the video, this was very informative for me. The Gen5 has just been released in Germany. I already had the Gen5 in my shopping cart and was only one click away from buying it. I'd rather continue to use our V10 for now and replace the battery if necessary. However, the V10 also has the problem that you can't get the fine dust out of the device, at least not without completely unscrewing it.

Wow this was a surprise! Now I totally agree with you how Dyson really needs to design cordless upright. They know how to make really good uprights and they have very good cordless technology. I am actually surprised why only stick format cordless vacuums from Dyson and not a single cordless upright. Cordless Dyson upright would be a smash hit! And my biggest issue with any stick vacuum is all the limitations + handle weight. Very good video 👌
The fact that such great individual bits of technology (Hyperdymium motor, anti tangle technology, particle counter, laser illumination) are being put on a final product that is so flawed makes me cry a little inside.
I bought a gen 5 and v15 and I’m not sure if I should return the gen 5 or not , the principal brush just do so much noise in my hood floor , my cats and my husband , get so scary for the loud noise, I just can’t believe they do that , it’s horrible 😢
Very good review. I believe the term you are looking for with the cleaner head is 'agitation', as this is what causes the dirt to dislodge from the carpet and is just as vital as suction power. With your heavy shaggy carpet, a perfect vacuum seal is being created (As in the video) not allowing for any air flow or proper agitation of the brush head. By flipping the switch and opening the front gates, you allow the airflow to be free when vacuuming Shag carpet, this allows for greater cleaning power and suction, contrary to what you may think. I agree with your flaw regarding the internal shroud film, I sucked up some drywall dust and now my shroud is plugged up, not sure how to clean it our. A very big design oversight by Dyson.
I used to have a Dyson DC59 animal but I have a Dyson V10 motorhead vacuum and it's wonderful and I live in a small house so it's perfect for that and I like how good it is
I think this video on the whole is good, however i think one thing to mention is suction vs airflow, any hoover that its head so powerfully pushed into the carpet that it creates almost no airflow will perform poorly, the gate + for maximum suction is only for floors where the head cannot but sucked tight against a surface, Suction alone doesnt pull the dirt, its the airflow of the dirt carrying the dirt up towards the negative air pressure, also Cyclone technology needs a certain amount of airflow in order to be able to seperate the dirt from the air. So yes you might think its working poorly, on deep pile but thats because it should have the gates open for maxmum airflow, the brush bar agitates the dirt and then the flow through the head carries the dirt up into the bin. i have to say though you highlighting the build quality issues is quite impressive no other video has mentioned it.
Thanks! As for the cleanerhead and airflow, I feel like the vacuum can breathe through most carpets anyway, unless it’s something like a non porous backed carpet then it would be ideal to open the vents to allow some airflow through Great point about the cyclones, they definitely need maximum airflow to be able to capture all the microscopic particles. I do feel like the vacuum can breathe through a carpet pile but if I open up the vents on the front, surely more of the airflow would find it easier to exit out the front of the vacuum than to go inside the carpet? If there was more airflow flowing through the carpet pile I feel like they would be more cleaner Many thanks for your comment, I appreciate hearing your views! ✌🏽
Excellent points and demo Parwaz, I hope Dyson are watching...i have a Outsize Animal, a Henry amd a Shark. I love the outsize, by far the best Dyson ive had and ive had a few, saying that have to use the Henry for the car as you cant get the Outsize in the footwell and the Shark just falls all over the place. 3 floors, 4 kids, dog and 2 cats and the outsize is perfect for that but the new generation would defo be a no no based on your findings.
Hi mate, my flat is filled with wall to wall carpet that looks exactly the same as your grey carpet. I have a cord vacuum but I want a cordless too for convenience. What will clean my carpet the best and with no stalling brush head? A gen5 that will probably need to use with air gates medium to fully open, or a v15 v12 v10 v8 instead? Or if there a brand that’s not Dyson which will clean carpet best and not steal the brush head /need to open the air gates, what do you recommend . Thanks
Your section starting at 7:00 is showing the vacuum works the way it’s supposed to. It has powerful suction and you need to adjust the vacuum to deal with the floor type. That’s the whole reason the gates are there. I understand it’s counterintuitive but you open the gates for high pile and it’s actually getting things cleaner than using the max suction or the older versions that don’t have the high suction issue. I get it’s weird but it’s not a flaw of the vacuum.
Have you tried the gen 5 outsize? Maybe due to the smaller head on the regular gen 5, the suction is too compressed and it makes the smaller head not keep up. Maybe the larger head would have better ventilation and be able to keep up since the suction power would be more distributed. Just a thought! Has anyone used the outsize and had similar or different results?
I forgot to say there is going to be a Dyson V15 Submarine and possibly a Gen 5 Submarine. Will you buy one? Its copying the Samsungs with a mop head so you can mop the hard floor lol I think its terrible Dyson doesn't give a spare filter. Dyson want to reduce the amount of tools included and encourage their Demo Experts to sell more accessory tools, to make more money.
I’m absolutely done with cordless Dysons now, they used to be fantastic. The V8 was brilliant, now I’ve gone off them tbh! I still enjoy using my DC07/14 non clutched models because they were their best imo, along with the UP32 dyson ball animal Although I have been using Sebo a lot lately I really am enamoured with them! They just work properly and do a fantastic job whilst maintaining high quality
Lots of great points in this i especially agree with how dyson should make an upright cordless vacuum, Ive been thinking it for years and hope they develop one soon even a cordless cylinder
You might be onto something about their upright vacuums. A drastically lighter, cordless and slightly smaller upright with a bigger beautiful LCD would be awesome
Clearly, not a sponsored review 😊. You mentioned V8 in another vid on the G5. Had it. Yup, it was good. Sister's still using it many, many years later.
I think a lightweight cordless cylinder vacuum with dyson technology would be the best vaccum. Because cylinder vacuum is far less strenuous on the arm than a normal cordless vacuum. Vacuuming with a cylinder vacuum is already a little bit exhausting i have only hardfloors. A cordless cylinder vacuum could have also bigger batteries so professional cleaners can use them too.
I really enjoyed your review. It sounded really angry, but it was funny. I was looking at this vacuum because of black Friday sales. And I was wondering why they had a discount on the latest model. But not a discount on previous models as much. Maybe I will just go for the V 11 which is a bit more affordable. Thank you :) 2:13
Yes, it's a real shame how the Gen5detect is tripping itself up. The suction power may be very high, but if it gets so stuck on the carpet that the roller rotor blocks, that's crazy. I have also had the Gen5detect for 2 weeks. I come from the V8, which I bought in 2016. I only have hard floors (it performs even better than the V8, and that on Eco!), so I can't provide any experience with how it behaves on carpets. I paid 800 euros for the Gen5. I have to agree with them about the build quality. My copy also has the protruding red seal on the cyclones and the paint abrasion. On my V8, this seal is flush and is therefore protected from damage. There were no flaws in the paintwork during its cyclones. The motorized attachments of the Gen5, but especially the brush roller, actually appear more delicate in terms of material appearance than the ones that came with my V8. If I happen to own a small carpet or want to properly vacuum upholstered furniture such as a scratching post, I get a little uneasy about whether the attachments will survive long enough, but only time can tell. In summary, it can be said that 800 euros is too much for what is delivered, especially since we are talking about a device from Dyson. It's a shame that I only found your good video now, then I would have gotten the V15.
about them changing the docking station- as i understood it the new gen 5 works on different voltage so they had to change it so people don't screw up their machines with older chargers. you can actually compare how much the voltage is on the batteries. besides that everything you said about it looks legit..it seem that they have made the vacuum even worse for carpets. i have the dyson big ball animal and i honestly love it...but am really in a need of something that is good for a quick work around the hose so have been looking at dysons stick vacuums..
Interesting video 👍🏽 they’ve gone backwards with some of what they’ve done, my older cordless Dyson (DC35 and 59) has a flexi hose which is useful for tight spaces / car cleaning.
Is the V15 Detect Absolute worth a purchase? What about the standard V15 Detect without the HEPA filter. I was interested in this Gen5 but this video spooked me away.
The V15 is a good vacuum, just don’t squeeze the trigger too hard because they can break. The Gen 5 will work on very thick carpets like a 2 inch thick carpet for example but generally dense carpets it just doesn’t work properly As for the different filters, the standard filter works well enough for capturing allergens and the finest dust particles, the more advanced blue filter filters a little better and captures particles down to 0.01 microns compared to 0.3 microns on the standard V15 All V15s have HEPA filters
As our beloved V8 has refused to work (won't charge the battery) after years of use, we are looking for a new Dyson. I thought the gen5detect would be the top of the range, but it seems we should rather buy the V15 instead? Mostly we have hard floors, but I also want to clean the few carpets we have, mainly at the entrances from the garden and front yard etc. Also the bathroom rugs, which are piled very high, should be able to be vacuumed. What do you think?
You could change the battery on your V8 (only 3 screws) very easy and takes a minute A v15 is a fantastic machine, with tons of power compared to a V8 but be careful not to squeeze the trigger too hard as they can break eventually, it’s a gentle touch trigger so it won’t need pressing in too much anyway 👍🏽
I dont understand why the floor head bogs down, its identical to the v15 detect? Is it because of the higher suction and airflow. The head is just a different colour. I am toying with a v8, v15 or v5 gen detect but the v8 only has 40 mins so think i'll get a v15.
The brushbar slows down because the brushbar motor isn’t powerful enough to cope with the powerful suction motor, there are upright vacuums with higher suction that can seal to carpets yet still agitate the carpet properly, this Gen 5 can’t do that because the brushbar motor lacks the torque required The v15 head has the same power and is decent enough, the Gen 5 has way more suction which is why it has this issue
1st went back due to carpet head stop rotating, 2nd arrived exactly same issue, even shared phone camera to USA support (im from UK) and showed them comparing Animal 11 which works no problem on our carpets. so 2nd going back for refund seems my entire house is fitted with incompatible carpet. ok on hard floor btw. but a £649 cleaner would expect to work on sensible floorings. i think its a design flaw check this great video shows kind of problem but mine just not rotate at all when introduced to carpet
Tayyab ur gonna upset so many Dyson fan boys brother!!!!!!! They are not gonna accept this and will blame you! Trust me. So many of them Dyson lovers are gonna be so bothered by this LOL I'm glad you are showing this consumers need to know. I myself would not want to buy one! Stick with my Dyson V8 for daily quick cleans and SEBO Felix upright for a proper deep clean. I have a V11 but don't really ever use it!
I went for the gen 5 because with the ball up right it pulls my back and twists it and is too heavy and bulky to carry up stairs, I find the gen 5 has perfect strong suction and nothing scrapes like he said. I think his must be faulty I haven’t come across any of the problems he describes , as for cleaning to car I use the DC 49 . Use the correct dyson for the job 😊
Agree with everything here. All valid points. Still love my gen5detect. Best vac I've owned. But I will conceed that maybe there is something better out there for the $870aud I paid.
I would love to see a comparison of the gen5 with the vents open (allowing it to work properly) vs the 15 gates closed. I’m wondering if they are the same. I’m sure the power is stronger on a gen5 so in the event you do have a floor that can have that strong of a suction with gates close you’re able to use it 🤷♀️ if it’s so powerful the gates need to be opened, yet it still does the job properly, then I don’t see an issue. I’m no expert though so what do I know 😂 Also love your accent! 😁
Thank you! The Gen 5 will definitely have stronger suction and clean better than the V15 with the gates open, however I prefer the gates to be closed for the suction and airflow to go into the carpet
Wow, Great Video! Real, Honest, Objective! Now the Mega Question is - What is the Best vacuum cleaner for home usage right now? Can you suggest any model?
There isn’t really a “best” vacuum because everyone has different requirements in a vacuum and they all offer different features but there are different models I recommend; 1) Dyson ball animal with the wide diameter brushbar - fantastic performance on all floors, filters stay cleaner than shark filters, long hose reaches up the stairs, ball technology steers around furniture, and great for pets Dyson cordless V10/11/15 for a decent cordless vacuum Sebo X7 - a high quality reliable bagged vacuum that works great on carpets, not the best on hard floors but can be used on hard floors. Sebo felix - much more powerful than the sebo X7 and fantastic on bare floors, but if you have really thick carpets the X7 would be better Shark corded vacuums are good as long as you keep the filters clean. If you want cordless, a Dyson is better than Shark overall As for canister/cylinder vacuums, either a Miele c3 or a Henry vacuum cleaner
There are many stick vacs that can stand upright on their own - when leaned against a wall, they risk falling over and being damaged There have been many cordless Dysons falling over and damaging their cyclone assemblies
I can attest to the brush roll grinding on low pile carpet. I just bought this today from best buy for $1049. I think I will be returning. My first cordless. I have an animal 2 and a big ball multi floor. My floors are hardwood with a few throw and area rugs. This is disappointing
I dont know which one to get as my carpet is like yours. I only have carpet in my house. Which one would u recommend as my daughter has severe dust allergies. I struggle with big hoovers,so i want cordless vaccum instead.
The v15 is a great machine, works very well and has strong suction! Just be careful not to squeeze the trigger too hard as they can break like that but they’re just a gentle touch trigger, just holding the vacuum switches it on The gen 5 isn’t that bad, it works fine with the suction gates opened but I feel like it would do a little better if it worked with the suction vents closed
@parwaz7861 i bought gen 5 and returned the same day thinking why it only spins on eco,but not on auto and boost. Do u think its okay to get gen 5 or v15. Or does v15 have same issue of spinning on only eco.
The V15 kind of has the same issue but it definitely works better, I can use the V15 mainly with no issues, if the brushbar spins slowly in certain areas of carpets (like totally matted down areas) it can struggle a bit but just open the vents a little, it will work on auto mode
@parwaz7861 thanku for your quick replies. If the v15 and gen 5 struggle with spinning, then shall i get gen 5 because it has an on/off button. my hands get extremely tired. If it was u and you had hand weakness, would u go for gen 5 or v15. Or because v15 is better, u will still go for v15.
@@daburable You’re welcome - I’d give the V15 a try, the trigger doesn’t need excessive holding at all, it’s a light gentle on switch Maybe consider a V12? They have a proper on and off switch but the suction is the same as the V10 instead of the power of a V15 and the bin is smaller
Hey Tayab, I am a 14 repair and maintenance repair person on vacuums (you probably seem previous comments) anyway, my DC04 origin has become extremely loud, (nothing to do with blockages.) I turned it on today and it felt like full volume speakers were plugged into it, do you think it could be something with the motor, or is it just old?
Amusing review! We're currently looking to upgrade our older non-pet hair Dyson to one that eliminates, or at least drastically reduces, annoying long hair tangles. I think it'll be wise to stick to a corded upright than to switch to a rechargeable stick-one for our mainly carpeted flooring in our house.
Yes but only on the cyclone assembly just like the blue/copper one The rest of the vacuum doesn’t have a painted finish, the blue colour is part of the plastic
@@parwaz7861 I am talking about the motorised head. This is the first time I am hearing of this issue which is why I am asking if you have tried a replacement head?
@@anthonyhall912 the head is exactly the same as the V15 with 100W of power, they haven’t increased the power of the torque but they’ve increased the suction, therefore the brushbar doesn’t spin properly because it works with lower suction And the issue exists with the V11 and V15 as well
👽👽👽👽👽👽👽👽👽 The best stick vacuum I've ever used. Love the LED dust detection, variable power, air filtration. The most powerful vac you can buy. 262 air watts......sensational, innovative.
Bought one of these today and got a replacement thinking it was faulty. Then did a more thorough internet search and found this video. I am returning it tomorrow as it is just not fit for purpose as a vacuum cleaner. Why have more suction than the motor head can handle?
Really negative review . Its actually a fantastic vacuum we have 1 and looking for another for our mum in laws house .... so if you dont like it we will buy it off you .... simple 😅😅
Well I’ve never looked at this model apart from your last video I just assumed it was a v15 with minor improvements. But it actually appears they have taken the pretty bad problems that the other machines had and made it so much worse. Then charge a even more ridiculous price for it when you could buy a vax air for £80 that does a better job with less flaws ! Personally the world of cordless machines has never appealed so far but if I was to ever buy one it certainly wouldn’t be a dyson. I would rather opt with the Henry quick it may not clean as good but I couldn’t justify paying so much for a dyson with massive design flaws !
I agree! Although I really like the Dyson V8 that’s their most reliable cordless they’ve made (lithium ion batteries aside) they do the job with no fuss, they’re lightweight, extremely quiet and are compact, the bin emptying works better on those too!
@@parwaz7861 I forget the v8 still is made ! A very good value for money vacuum good performance too. I agree with you on that one the v8s didn’t have issues it would be great if they made a v8 with a v15 style head !
To think a Dyson Big Ball to run on a battery you need to compare specs ..a v15 battery is 25.5v with 3.6Ah so that gives 91Wh..the big ball 3 has around 800w motor so at 220v it gives 3.6 A so it maintains the same amount of amps but you feed 220v not 25v you need a way way larger battery and one that can give 10x more voltage so battery technology is still inferior
The fluffy head will only surface clean and leave the carpet looking cosmetically clean whereas it still leaves embedded dirt and dust - Dyson do not show the fluffy head being used on carpets nor do they recommend it to work on carpet It doesn’t separate the carpet pile as well as a brushbar and seal the suction into the head because suction leaks out the front roller as well
It’s better to leave it in Eco mode with the gates on + mode than having it on auto with the gates opened because the suction has no choice but to go inside the carpet With the gates open more air leaks out the front that goes into the carpet Suction (water lift) is needed to maintain airflow through the carpet pile
Just got a gen5, which is now waiting to be collected to go back them. Atrocious quality control, the dust counter does not work at all, and therefore this while whizzy automatic control doesn’t work either. If Dyson wants to sell vastly overpriced equipment that’s fine but at least make sure it actually works out of the box. That is not hard (sorry, it is indeed not hard - hire someone competent and they will get this right in 3-6 months). Terrible.
@parwaz7861 Talk about a disappointing but money and headache saving moment for me! I have been up for 2 days researching non stop. Calling Dyson watching videos etc! I was so torn between the Gen5outsize and Gen5detect! I have only owned one vacuum in my adult life and it is a cordless but nothing this amazing! I wanted to purchase a very high power truly get my carpets and hard floors clean every time cordless! I planned to hit pay now in the morning and now I don't even know where to re-begin! I am open to ANY brand but wow everything just sounded so amazing on these two! I move every couple years so I can not know what type of carpet I will or won't have. Did you ever try the Gen5outsize as mentioned in previous comments? Is there any amazing cordless out there that is going to clean clean the floors? 🥺 I am new to the vacuum world. How often do they come out with a new version? Maybe the next version of this will be better and I can wait 🥺 Thank you for considering my comment!
For a cordless vacuum I’d say a Dyson is the best choice all around, they have the most suction and require minimal maintenance compared to other cordlesses I do like the Gen5, it does work well enough with the suction gates open but I just prefer the V15 because I can use it with the suction gates closed for optimal suction inside the carpet pile which I feel does a better job I haven’t tried the gen5 outsize but I would definitely look into a V15 - just remember it has a gentle hold trigger and doesn’t require much effort to hold it down, just be careful not to squeeze the trigger too hard as it can stress the plastic out and eventually break
Because Dyson's are bagless, they immediately look disgusting because of all the dirt and scratches that are impossible to keep clean in all that hideous cheap plastic.
I was originally skeptical but this video is 100% accurate. I have low and medium pile carpets. I also have a V15 Detect. Great point about the cyclones, they definitely need maximum airflow to be able to capture all the microscopic particles.
I do feel like the vacuum can breathe through a carpet pile but if I open up the vents on the front, surely more of the airflow would find it easier to exit out the front of the vacuum than to go inside the carpet? If there was more airflow flowing through the carpet pile I feel like they would be more cleaner
Many thanks for your comment, I appreciate hearing your views!
Thanks
Can the rotors be turned off? I would like to use it with wool rugs and I would hate the rollers to damage the carpet with frequent cleanings.
I haven’t tried that, but that is an interesting point! I would love to give the outsize Gen 5 a try someday
@@parwaz7861 cool! I would definitely watch your video if you tried one out. It is the model my wife and I are considering
He’s 💯 percent right about everything he said in this review
I forgot to say there is going to be a Dyson V15 Submarine and possibly a Gen 5 Submarine. Will you buy one? Its copying the Samsungs with a mop head so you can mop the hard floor lol I think its terrible Dyson doesn't give a spare filter. Dyson want to reduce the amount of tools included and encourage their Demo Experts to sell more accessory tools, to make more money.
I’m absolutely done with cordless Dysons now, they used to be fantastic. The V8 was brilliant, now I’ve gone off them tbh! I still enjoy using my DC07/14 non clutched models because they were their best imo, along with the UP32 dyson ball animal
Although I have been using Sebo a lot lately I really am enamoured with them! They just work properly and do a fantastic job whilst maintaining high quality
Lots of great points in this i especially agree with how dyson should make an upright cordless vacuum, Ive been thinking it for years and hope they develop one soon even a cordless cylinder
Enit
I have never had a Dyson. I'm surprised at the flaws with this one. Especially because of how expensive they are.
Dyson should hire you.
Thank you :)

The Gen 5 will work on very thick carpets like a 2 inch thick carpet for example but generally dense carpets it just doesn’t work properly
As for the different filters, the standard filter works well enough for capturing allergens and the finest dust particles, the more advanced blue filter filters a little better and captures particles down to 0.01 microns compared to 0.3 microns on the standard V15
All V15s have HEPA filters
Thank you for the insight..and YES I totally agree with you
2:40 V15 has exact same hideous design, it is a pain. But there aren't any good stick cordless alternatives in the market yet.
After watching this i think ill stick with my v11 and lightball, i do think they should make the lightball cordless ❤
Compressed air around the shroud to remove fine dust
As our beloved V8 has refused to work (won't charge the battery) after years of use, we are looking for a new Dyson. I thought the gen5detect would be the top of the range, but it seems we should rather buy the V15 instead? Mostly we have hard floors, but I also want to clean the few carpets we have, mainly at the entrances from the garden and front yard etc. Also the bathroom rugs, which are piled very high, should be able to be vacuumed. What do you think?
You could change the battery on your V8 (only 3 screws) very easy and takes a minute
A v15 is a fantastic machine, with tons of power compared to a V8 but be careful not to squeeze the trigger too hard as they can break eventually, it’s a gentle touch trigger so it won’t need pressing in too much anyway 👍🏽
@@parwaz7861 Thanks for your advice 🙂
@@parwaz7861which would you recommend out of the Dyson v12 Detect or Dyson v15 Detect?
I dont understand why the floor head bogs down, its identical to the v15 detect? Is it because of the higher suction and airflow. The head is just a different colour. I am toying with a v8, v15 or v5 gen detect but the v8 only has 40 mins so think i'll get a v15.
The brushbar slows down because the brushbar motor isn’t powerful enough to cope with the powerful suction motor, there are upright vacuums with higher suction that can seal to carpets yet still agitate the carpet properly, this Gen 5 can’t do that because the brushbar motor lacks the torque required
The v15 head has the same power and is decent enough, the Gen 5 has way more suction which is why it has this issue
1st went back due to carpet head stop rotating, 2nd arrived exactly same issue, even shared phone camera to USA support (im from UK) and showed them comparing Animal 11 which works no problem on our carpets.
so 2nd going back for refund seems my entire house is fitted with incompatible carpet.
ok on hard floor btw.
but a £649 cleaner would expect to work on sensible floorings.
i think its a design flaw
check this great video shows kind of problem but mine just not rotate at all when introduced to carpet
I’m helping people by trying this vacuum out so they don’t have to 😄
Do you still have your DC05?
No spare batteries available anywhere 😮
No spare filters 😢
I’m no expert though so what do I know 😂
Also love your accent! 😁
Thank you!
The Gen 5 will definitely have stronger suction and clean better than the V15 with the gates open, however I prefer the gates to be closed for the suction and airflow to go into the carpet
You have great information .
Wow, Great Video! Real, Honest, Objective! Now the Mega Question is - What is the Best vacuum cleaner for home usage right now? Can you suggest any model?
There isn’t really a “best” vacuum because everyone has different requirements in a vacuum and they all offer different features but there are different models I recommend;
1) Dyson ball animal with the wide diameter brushbar - fantastic performance on all floors, filters stay cleaner than shark filters, long hose reaches up the stairs, ball technology steers around furniture, and great for pets
Dyson cordless V10/11/15 for a decent cordless vacuum
Sebo X7 - a high quality reliable bagged vacuum that works great on carpets, not the best on hard floors but can be used on hard floors.
Sebo felix - much more powerful than the sebo X7 and fantastic on bare floors, but if you have really thick carpets the X7 would be better
Shark corded vacuums are good as long as you keep the filters clean. If you want cordless, a Dyson is better than Shark overall
As for canister/cylinder vacuums, either a Miele c3 or a Henry vacuum cleaner
@@parwaz7861 super valuable recommendations! Thank you!
@@vasiovasio Happy to help!
Man u r GREAT! A bit merciless but certainly great. Thank u
How is the second issue a problem with the Gen5? Most if not all stick vacs can't stand up on its own.
There are many stick vacs that can stand upright on their own - when leaned against a wall, they risk falling over and being damaged
There have been many cordless Dysons falling over and damaging their cyclone assemblies
Just be careful not to squeeze the trigger too hard as they can break like that but they’re just a gentle touch trigger, just holding the vacuum switches it on
The gen 5 isn’t that bad, it works fine with the suction gates opened but I feel like it would do a little better if it worked with the suction vents closed
@@daburable You’re welcome - I’d give the V15 a try, the trigger doesn’t need excessive holding at all, it’s a light gentle on switch
Maybe consider a V12? They have a proper on and off switch but the suction is the same as the V10 instead of the power of a V15 and the bin is smaller
I love the rant
Hey Tayab, I am a 14 repair and maintenance repair person on vacuums (you probably seem previous comments) anyway, my DC04 origin has become extremely loud, (nothing to do with blockages.) I turned it on today and it felt like full volume speakers were plugged into it, do you think it could be something with the motor, or is it just old?
Yes
Amusing review! We're currently looking to upgrade our older non-pet hair Dyson to one that eliminates, or at least drastically reduces, annoying long hair tangles. I think it'll be wise to stick to a corded upright than to switch to a rechargeable stick-one for our mainly carpeted flooring in our house.
Every tool included with the gen 5 eliminates hair tangles completely. There are _zero_ hair tangles with the Gen 5.
7:27 it’s the type of flooring that’s going to affect the suction.
Good review ! Tanks
Thanks for watching!
How much more suction does the Gen 5 than the V15
On boost mode, 262 airwatts compared to 230 airwatts on the V15
Is the purple one also painted?
Yes but only on the cyclone assembly just like the blue/copper one
The rest of the vacuum doesn’t have a painted finish, the blue colour is part of the plastic
You have an Electrolux Velocity ?
Indeed!
I'd love to see a video about it
Hello parwaz786 how are you doing today mate and can you review vax power nano blue and grey pet version
Is it possible the motorbar head on your gen5detect is defective? It should operate the same as the v15
The Gen5 detect doesn’t use the same motor as the V15, because it has more suction power than the V15 on all 3 modes
@@parwaz7861 I am talking about the motorised head. This is the first time I am hearing of this issue which is why I am asking if you have tried a replacement head?
@@anthonyhall912 the head is exactly the same as the V15 with 100W of power, they haven’t increased the power of the torque but they’ve increased the suction, therefore the brushbar doesn’t spin properly because it works with lower suction
And the issue exists with the V11 and V15 as well
@@parwaz7861 have not seen this issue anywhere else so that’s odd. I’d wager your head is defective?
Must watch review before buying.
Parwaz Is the Best Vacuum Teacher Ever XD ❤

The best stick vacuum I've ever used. Love the LED dust detection, variable power, air filtration. The most powerful vac you can buy. 262 air watts......sensational, innovative.
A lot of the issues you have with the Gen 5 I have with my V15. Absolutey terrible. Would rather use a DC08.
Agreed. Honestly, I do not know why people fall for "cordless".
What issues specifically?
@@anthonyhall912 The issues stated in this video. I've experienced the same.
They need to make a Henry generation 5
The Henry quick would be my favourite cordless vacuum if only it had a little bit more suction on low mode! On boost mode it’s fantastic, however!

Bought one of these today and got a replacement thinking it was faulty. Then did a more thorough internet search and found this video.
I am returning it tomorrow as it is just not fit for purpose as a vacuum cleaner. Why have more suction than the motor head can handle?
Exactly!!
V15 mi gen5 mi almaliyim
Wish someone would address the replacing the batteries.
The battery unclips with the red button as they’re swappable
I’ll have your gen*5
Dyson switched to planned obsolescence. Great business plan🤣
Bro you should work for dyson!!!😅 The cordless gen 5 is for rich poeple who live in SMALL HOUSES.
Really negative review .
Its actually a fantastic vacuum we have 1 and looking for another for our mum in laws house .... so if you dont like it we will buy it off you .... simple 😅😅
so the v15 doesn't have the same problem with the brushes
The v15 still has the same issue, although not as bad, however on low pile carpets the v15 is just as underpowered as the gen5
What about the V12
The V12 doesn’t have the brushbar cutting out issue but it does have the spray paint finish cyclone I think
I agree with you on that one the v8s didn’t have issues it would be great if they made a v8 with a v15 style head !
thanks, i'll get the v15 then
To think a Dyson Big Ball to run on a battery you need to compare specs ..a v15 battery is 25.5v with 3.6Ah so that gives 91Wh..the big ball 3 has around 800w motor so at 220v it gives 3.6 A so it maintains the same amount of amps but you feed 220v not 25v you need a way way larger battery and one that can give 10x more voltage so battery technology is still inferior
If the Dyson ball had a hyperdimium motor like the Gen 5 has it would be possible
You need to work for Dyson!
You gotta use the fluffy on carpet... High torque is for long hair rugs
The fluffy head is designed for only smooth floors
@@parwaz7861 nope, it does the job pretty well on carpet / short hair rugs
High torque isnt good on these two
The fluffy head will only surface clean and leave the carpet looking cosmetically clean whereas it still leaves embedded dirt and dust - Dyson do not show the fluffy head being used on carpets nor do they recommend it to work on carpet
It doesn’t separate the carpet pile as well as a brushbar and seal the suction into the head because suction leaks out the front roller as well
@@sHiNjEeK The fluffy head is for hard floors
It's almost like they don't actually use any of the vacuums they design! I don't think I even want a Dyson anymore.
My parents have one. What a piece of crap. Only a little suction power on boost. I would recommend looking elsewhere for a Miele or similar.
I disagree about the stand up vac. The stick vacuums are better if you don't have any carpet.
🤣🤣🤣 But apart from all that, It's a good machine. LOL
You have tried all scenarios but leaving it on auto and just leave the gates open
It’s better to leave it in Eco mode with the gates on + mode than having it on auto with the gates opened because the suction has no choice but to go inside the carpet
With the gates open more air leaks out the front that goes into the carpet
Suction (water lift) is needed to maintain airflow through the carpet pile
Do you play COD by any chance
Just got a gen5, which is now waiting to be collected to go back them. Atrocious quality control, the dust counter does not work at all, and therefore this while whizzy automatic control doesn’t work either. If Dyson wants to sell vastly overpriced equipment that’s fine but at least make sure it actually works out of the box. That is not hard (sorry, it is indeed not hard - hire someone competent and they will get this right in 3-6 months). Terrible.
this dyson gen 5 is like bullcrap. lucky for me its not avaliable in my country so i just avoid this vacuum replacing my v10
Long time ownership 😅 it won't last that long...
This is absolute shit for a Dyson. I’ll avoid replacing my V7 for this
Make more videos of vacuuming with the gen 5 plzzzz
@parwaz7861
Talk about a disappointing but money and headache saving moment for me!
For a cordless vacuum I’d say a Dyson is the best choice all around, they have the most suction and require minimal maintenance compared to other cordlesses
I do like the Gen5, it does work well enough with the suction gates open but I just prefer the V15 because I can use it with the suction gates closed for optimal suction inside the carpet pile which I feel does a better job
I haven’t tried the gen5 outsize but I would definitely look into a V15 - just remember it has a gentle hold trigger and doesn’t require much effort to hold it down, just be careful not to squeeze the trigger too hard as it can stress the plastic out and eventually break
I’d rather spend my money on a Henry Cordless
It's almost like they don't actually use any of the vacuums they design!
Because Dyson's are bagless, they immediately look disgusting because of all the dirt and scratches that are impossible to keep clean in all that hideous cheap plastic.
I can't honestly believe how hideous Dyson have made their machines now. So disappointing.
