I met Mitch a couple times when he was going through this. I went to college with his cousin (she was smokin hot too). They were from Dickinson, ND. We went to UND (Go Sioux!) I always felt so bad for him for all this BS he went through. Glad he at least got a chance to play with the great VH.
Eddie gave this song to Mitch with no vocals 9n it, after Mitcy turned down being in Van Halen. Van Halen took DLR to MTV that year and DLR ran his mouth off about recording new songs with VH for the greatest hits. Mitch saw that and turned down being in Van Halen. This track without the vocals, Eddie gave to Mitch and Mitch finished the song. This would have been a number 1 if they had released it. It's easy to hear Eddie's signature playing on this track. That didn’t suck. They need to release all demos and “nearly done” songs in the arsenal. For the almost done, get somebody in there and mix it and get it finished. It would sell 10 M and go diamond in no time.

Mitch left because of the DLR “reunion”. Eddie didn’t discuss that with Mitch and he essentially learned about it from tv. All Mitch saw was that they were going to get back together with Dave so he decided to leave them to it. Plus I’m sure he didn’t want to be a part of any drama.
I've been in the music industry now a little over 45yrs and it's a shame that everyone says that they didn't like which directions the band was going. Interesting, but it’s missing the VH sizzle. Where are Michael Anthony’s Vocals, Alex’s drum sounds, a blistering EVH solo? It seems like a throwaway demo and was never given much thought. It could have been better. It’s a VERY safe pop/rock song with no flair. I think Mitch Malloy is a very good vocalist, and maybe it could have worked had the missing VH ingredients been there, but they aren’t there.

David got limited range with his vocals and songs were on one pattern ... Gary Cherone and Sammy were Versatile in the vocal range so for me Eddie was Genius he used his vocals according to his composition needs.

i will disagree with that , mitch never wanted to be a band member , he wanted to get the fame through as solo artist , you know LSD case was common in Mitch ... he is a good vocalist but wasted himself with his own ego ..the melodies which Eddie Created with Gary in VHIII were amazing ... Songs like Once , From a Far , Josephina , Year of the day , believe me dave sammy neither mitch can hit those high notes vocals .... Eddie explored his vocal potential and he was happy to work with him ... in Several interviews Eddie said with Gary i have more range to create such songs which he wanted ...

VH is my favorite band, and EVH is the guy who inspired me to play guitar, and I think that while Malloy fits the band vocally, my understanding is that he's a pretty straight arrow. The band, on the other hand, was a total mess at the time. This wouldn't have worked long-term.
Band Wasn't it was record label issue , you know grunge and alternative rock was newly in the scene and producers managers were interested to promote that music ... on that time musicians like EVH struggles cause they had to make their music on their own also for promotion there was no proper social media platform the one we have nowadays ... whatever EVH recorded i love that

I like how Alex and Eddie try to make simple powerful licks...but subtlety throw progressive beat turn around. They want to stay "radio" while throwing a bone to the groove and musicians. This could have turned out to be a good band mix. Singer is good. The subject of the lyrics is a little cheesy. Should have changed the words to sometime more unique. But great nonetheless
Here’s a nice tip I learnt from my days songwriting. You should SHOW the listener instead of TELLING them. Create images, and let the listener use his own imagination to connect with what you are trying to say. This song is too level one. “The time is right now, are you happy in life? What about right now? There is no better time.” Yawn. Maybe why MM had no major hits on his own? He would do much better with Desmond Child writing his songs, and MM performing them. My 2 cents
It has promise, but VH needed another veteran rock singer-songwriter to take this further. Hagar might have been able to elevate it but that ship had sailed. Ed's issues aside, an Alex/Ed "solo" effort with guests might have been a better move than competing with their godlike legacy.

I wonder who might have been the perfect follow up to Hagar? Who, amongst veteran singers, could have been the right fit at the time? An interesting question to ponder.

Agreed 100% Regardless of what people think of DLR...he brought out soemthing in the band that made them dangerous in a very unique way...they played with so much fire. After 1985...VH just felt very safe. Of course the playing was top shelf...it just didn't have any edges to it. Sammy is a better technical vocalist than DLR...but Dave's lyrics and showmanship crushed anything Sammy or Gary (or Mitch) brought to the table. I was lucky enough to see them in 81, 84, 88, 91, 96, 98, 07, 08, 12 and 15. So I saw them with all 3 singers and the early shows were hands down the best....and honestly the show with Gary was better than the Sammy shows because they played songs from the entire catalog which they barely touched when Sammy was in the band. I never cared to see or hear There's only One Way to Rock...or any of Sammy's solo songs for that material but they always stuck at least 1 of his tracks in the set. Just my opinion but the classic line up will always be the best

I LOVE this F'ing Lost VH song with Mitch's great vocals...Lyrics good as well...I'm glad I finally got to hear it complete...Sammy was right that that 1996 VH Greatest Hits compilation should have never happened especially with 2 new mediocre songs with Dave included (I never bothered buying it...)...It caused the band to fall apart...Who wrote these lyrics?

VH is my favorite band, and EVH is the guy who inspired me to play guitar, and I think that while Malloy fits the band vocally, my understanding is that he's a pretty straight arrow. The band, on the other hand, was a total mess at the time. This wouldn't have worked long-term.
Band Wasn't it was record label issue , you know grunge and alternative rock was newly in the scene and producers managers were interested to promote that music ... on that time musicians like EVH struggles cause they had to make their music on their own also for promotion there was no proper social media platform the one we have nowadays ... whatever EVH recorded i love that

Mitch was a good vocalist but he wasn't a proper band material like he always he had lead singer disease and thats why he wasted his voice ... i love his vocals but he couldn't justified it with his personal goals
I like how Alex and Eddie try to make simple powerful licks...but subtlety throw progressive beat turn around. They want to stay "radio" while throwing a bone to the groove and musicians. This could have turned out to be a good band mix. Singer is good. The subject of the lyrics is a little cheesy. Should have changed the words to sometime more unique. But great nonetheless

Here’s a nice tip I learnt from my days songwriting. You should SHOW the listener instead of TELLING them. Create images, and let the listener use his own imagination to connect with what you are trying to say. This song is too level one. “The time is right now, are you happy in life? What about right now? There is no better time.” Yawn. Maybe why MM had no major hits on his own? He would do much better with Desmond Child writing his songs, and MM performing them. My 2 cents

It has promise, but VH needed another veteran rock singer-songwriter to take this further. Hagar might have been able to elevate it but that ship had sailed. Ed's issues aside, an Alex/Ed "solo" effort with guests might have been a better move than competing with their godlike legacy.
Eddie Experimented with is Vocals , After sammy , Gary cherone was perfect ... but lots of people didn't liked like him ... but that album VHIII was a masterpiece for me.
I wonder who might have been the perfect follow up to Hagar? Who, amongst veteran singers, could have been the right fit at the time? An interesting question to ponder.
@thelastperfectman4139 Aerosmith briefly considered Lenny Kravitz (and Hagar lol). That would've been a solid pick. Phenomenal singer who definitely could help finish songs. A consistent story is that singers turned them down because of too much drama and too big of a legacy to live up to

Eddie Explored the potential of Gary Cherone ... we know Gary is a Versatile singer ... Eddie wanted to work with Gary in the another cd in year between 2014 but his health was not that good .... Sammy and Gary they are versatile Vocalists , that's why Eddie wanted to experiment with new sound with new vocalists ... i am giving you example of two songs from VH3 , once & From A far ... david dont have skills to provide quality vocals for songs like these .... i am not against him , i like his vocals but he is not a complete singer and its a fact.

@@tobiasfunke9473 Everybody got own likes and dislikes ... if you heard the interview of Eddie he said Gary is a flexible person who understands quickly that what i wanted to make , he said VH3 is a perfect album but critics and wanna be fans of David doesn't like that album ... for your information last album of Van halen with David .... he called gary to make one more album with him ... they recorded some demos and in future they will be out .... Eddie was a Van halen , david was just a singer , and Eddie knew what kind of vocalist he needs for specific songs ... thats why he wanted to record the album with gary in 2014-2015 ... he wanted to shape the different sound of Van halen with a flexibility in vocals .... but you are a fan of David it will be hard for you ... for me whatever Eddie played with his vocalists , i love his Each an single song or demo. for me they are gems in these days.

Agreed 100% Regardless of what people think of DLR...he brought out soemthing in the band that made them dangerous in a very unique way...they played with so much fire. After 1985...VH just felt very safe. Of course the playing was top shelf...it just didn't have any edges to it. Sammy is a better technical vocalist than DLR...but Dave's lyrics and showmanship crushed anything Sammy or Gary (or Mitch) brought to the table.
I was lucky enough to see them in 81, 84, 88, 91, 96, 98, 07, 08, 12 and 15. So I saw them with all 3 singers and the early shows were hands down the best....and honestly the show with Gary was better than the Sammy shows because they played songs from the entire catalog which they barely touched when Sammy was in the band. I never cared to see or hear There's only One Way to Rock...or any of Sammy's solo songs for that material but they always stuck at least 1 of his tracks in the set. Just my opinion but the classic line up will always be the best
