The father-son rule is a joke, in a supposedly "national" sporting competition. When many young men are sent around the country to play with the club which has selected them, a privileged few who happen to have a father who happened to play a particular number of games for a particular (usually VFL) team get to play with the team of their choice. What message is that sending to the country? Why does this anachronistic rule still exist? It's certainly got nothing to do with "loyalty" or "history", because father-son picks who don't turn out to be champions certainly are got rid of quickly enough! (Ask the Clokes).
When I attended all Lions home games from late '90s to 2008, olus GF in 2001, there was a bloke who played like he had all the time in the world under high pressure, excellent decision making, easy kicking style but high accuracy and scored goals from beyond 50m. Smart in finding space and identifying team mates in a better position than him. Played like a gentleman on steroids. Great player. They tell me he's got 2 young sons who are pretty good players too. Name's Marcus. Can't remember his surname.... ....ohhhhh, waaiit, yeaaaahh! I got it!!Like father like sons!!!!
Will be interesting to see if a rivalry develops between the Ashcroft and the Daicos brothers. I wouldn't be surprised if both sets of brothers get another flag. As a lions fan, I think we have a chance to go back to back, if not the season after
Having seen Will Ashcroft live in almost every one of his games, my only question is about the penetration of his long kicks. Is that something he might improve over time?
@@Mik5688 yeah for sure! I haven’t looked super close at that so i don’t know if it’s technique or he just lacks power. I think he’s made some inroads with his speed! Seems to be improving there
The comparisons are unfair. Livi has to be exposed to a afl preseason, play and train with team mates who are of a much higher level. Be coached by a panel that will change the way he plays to fit into a team with legends like Neale.
Why is it unfair that this premiership side will have two father son brothers but it’s ok for last years premiers had two father son brothers. Or is it different if it’s Collingwood and or a Victorian club?
@@DylanAlexanderFollowsDraft so you reckon a young bloke can’t go and play for the team their dad played for? Under no father son like you want. Your going to force a Daicos to play for Collingwood’s hated enemy Carlton? Force a Silvagni to play for Collingwood? Force a Whitten to play for Hawthorn force an Ashcroft to play for Sydney or force a you plugger to play for the Lions? No Johnathon Brown at the Lions? My brother played 400 games for Box Hill Rugby Club his son did the same and so did his grandson, it’s called tradition no matter what the code. You clearly haven’t thought this thru.
Will is taller, quicker, much much better by foot. Levi isn't a high meters player or not good enough by foot to be that player at AFL level. That was also a throw to Neale.
Just saw the St Kilda president fall to his knees at Coles

This should have been the title for the video

Can not wait to see the Ashcroft brothers playing together in the 🦁s colours💪🏻❤

Excellent analysis and commentary, well done.

Great video Dyl! Im pumped to see Levi integrate with the team and work alongside Will again. They both already seem like the ultimate professionals!
Thanks 🙏 totally agree! Think they are as safe as it comes!
Levi Ashcroft is a good Lachie Neale replacement, Neale is 31.
@@Aka_daka 100% that midfield is future proofed!
Successor, Neale still got a few more years in him I reckon. Dangerfield is 34 and still a top player, Pendlebury soon 37 and still going.
Good stuff, mate!

The Ashcroft brothers are the replacement for Neale and Zorko when the two Legends retire.

2 Lance Franklins are prodigies
The Ashcroft Brothers should come across to Collingwood. More money and bigger Games ! Just wishful thinking ! lol
So would they call it the Ashcos midfield or the Daicroft midfield?
