Some great shots and footage. Just goes to show that any brand of decent camera and lens can yield amazing results in the right hands. Good to see you out and about, I hope your health and recovery are progressing well. Cheers, Robert. 😊
Lovely video and images of shorebirds. We get non-breeding in Cairns Australia, with only a hint of colour. Its eye dropping to see the colour your getting! The dreary weather makes the rusty reds stand out even more.
Beautiful bit of work folks, can't think of a better way to kick off the day! Good to see you out and about enjoying Alaska and sharing it with us. John
Great to hear the interaction between you two during your shooting! Agree with a previous commenter that the quality of the video and photos was great!
You certainly get the bird! Great photography again. Hope you stayed dry . Your opening shot of the Whimbrel puts mine to shame, I was held back by a river and barbed wire fence! such is life and it’s what keeps us going out.
You are a inspiration to me I am going to have open heart sugery next month and you show me it is possible to recover and get back into wildlife photography after having heart problems
Amazing images and footage! Quick question: some of the video clips are labeled as 4K@120p for the R7, and 4k@180p for the R8. Are you sure you didn't mean 1080p? I didn't think those cameras are capable of those frame rates at 4k. If I'm mistaken, then I've been seriously missing out!
Sorry to be picky but some settings are wrong. R7 doesn't video record 4K 120 only HD. At least on my R7. Love your work and dedication in your harsh conditions compared to ours here in Australia. I recently photographed a Whimbrel here in Australia.
I was very interested seeing the lenses being put directly on ground in saltwater. I would use skimmer to protect my equipment. But looks like you’re pushing for an even lower angle. Great video and inspiring pictures.
Yes. watch the previous video and I talk about the skimmer and using it on these days. Didn't mean to br out that long is the short story. went to shoot an eagle and ran across the sandpipers ;)
Just wanted to ask what rules you were breaking ? I’m very interested in low light photography in my local forest morning and evenings and you used a variety of cameras and lenses 500 f4 ( on a Z9 ?) 200-800 interested in how that performed at low light at the long end f9 ? And a 400mm f2.8 which probably worked well - also looking at the iso levels you had they didn’t seem that high ? How low was the light - but hey keep making these super videos love what your doing
Boat Throwable Flotation Cushion Camo Mossy Oak USCG Approved Type IV is the correct name. I like them because they are light and quiet and you can quickly pick up and or reposition your camera and lens to get a shot or to avoid a wave if you are in the surface zone.
Hey there. I’m take a camping trip for a few days was thinking McCarthy or down towards valdez/seward. Any good spots to check out? It’ll be Monday-Thursday timeframe.
Valdez or Seward will have more birds to photograph, but McCarthy is gorgeous. Seward or Valdez just work the heads of the bays along the beaches for birds.
As I watch the video's are you shooting in 8K or 4K? love it so far. I see your notes.. also for the B Roll (not sure why they call it that) what are you using to film..
I have notes up on most of the videos on what camera and lens I'm filming with. If there is no one then it's probably the Nikon Z9 and the EF 500 f4 MKII as it was the main setup I was using over those couple of weeks. I shoot 4k 120fps at all times and I can speed that u0p or slow it down from normal sped to slow motion with hat set up. As far as exposure it's 1/250 shutter aperture usually wide open if I can and iso to match.
Hi from Germany :)! What do you guys wear to lay down in the very cold and wet underground? also those gloves etc? I need clothes like this too :D ... for the Northsea etc :)
Z9 has a better sensor in my opinion, but both perform amazing in low light. Your lens choice helps a ton in these situations and understanding of how to get light needed.
Incredible video and photos. Not sure how you're getting 4K 120 out of the R7 or 4K 180 out of the R8. Neither of those frame rates are supported, so maybe maybe you're shooting HD or upscaling in Topaz? It doesn't matter much because the quality's there.
@@WILDALASKA That makes sense. I'm not familiar with Final Cut but it certainly did an incredible job - perhaps better than Topaz Video AI. I really appreciate the hard work y'all went to to bring us such incredible close-ups of those birds. You worked it and the results speak for themselves.
Love the behind the scenes. You 3 must of gotten wet even with your gear on. That last place.... Yeah I'm to old to get that wet on purpose lol. I followed the 2 young ladies on Instagram from the links you provided. Do they have TH-cam channels? They deserve a follow for being such good friends. I know I appreciate them helping you heal. Thank them for me please.
They don't have a TH-cam channel yet. I still encouraging them to work on one. It is a lot of work. Oh yes we were wet and frozen. You can't avoid it when you are IN the ocean from time to time 😂
The rain and snow are not the problem to taking photos on Anchorage, the real problem is the price for car rental or hotels thzere. I gave up my idea to go in July to Alaska, sorry guys😞
@@WILDALASKA one question, please. eBird location are mostly placed around the city. Does make sens to use Uber to get there, or is such idea as good as to rent car in Nome AK?
lol. As you can see other than it being daytime there is no light to speak of. Was shooting f9 a bit there also. And Cassie was the only one t be able to shoot 2.8 but most of the time she was @ f4 as she was shooting with the TC engaged on that amazing lens.
Great to know you are recovering well and also able to enjoy the photography. Great quality video.
Thank you very much!

Fantastic video. Felt like I was there! I was surprised by how close the birds came to you when lying down. The images were so clean and vivid!
Glad you enjoyed it!
So good to see you out there and enjoy. I love the video en pictures of the three of you, so amazing!
Thanks so much!

Glad you enjoyed it.
The thing that gets me is that some of the birds you photograph, I get to photograph here in New Zealand, 8000kms or more away. They are so amazing.
Very cool. Lot of birds breeding grounds are up here. So spring and summer are fun.
How wonderful , so beautiful. Merci beaucoup de nous avoir amenés avec vous pour cette séance photo.
Glad you enjoyed it.
I just LOVED this video, Scott. You never disappoint, so inspiring.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Good work. Love the footage and shot details.
thanks

Good to see you out doing what you love to do! Awesome images. Thanks for taking me along!
Thanks for watching!
Fantastic video. I purchased the Z9 and Canon 500 f4 after watching your videos. Great combo!
Enjoy!
Great footage, great images, and great to see you getting back out.
thx
Loved that video, so lucky to have that wonderful landscape and wildlife on your doorstep 👏
It really is!
Great seeing you out there. Hope you are improving.
I am! Thanks
Always a pleasure watching your videos

Very much so. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Lovely weather.
fun fun
You guys are doing great, keep it up! Thanks for the beautiful shots.
Thank you! Will do!

Nicely done. Enjoyed it. 😎
Glad you enjoyed it
Amazing video, I need to try the low Angle
Yes you do
You are a inspiration to me I am going to have open heart sugery next month and you show me it is possible to recover and get back into wildlife photography after having heart problems
Good luck and lots of prayers out to you. I am going to do a video soon about recovery and photography. 🙏
Thanks for the video! I’ve been having a hard time to go out once I’m off work lately. Hope too soon and start practicing again.
👍🐻🦉🦅
Great movie! It seemed like you were evaluating various cameras and combos, were you? Any conclusions? How was R7 against R5 and 8 and Z9?
Oh I just use a lot of cameras. Sometimes it's just due to what lens is on what camera at the time something crops up.
Loved it!
thanks
Damn. That’s all I can say. Damn. Fantastic.
Glad you enjoyed it.

They are 1080p 120 and 180 for in camera then upscaled to 4k in Final Cut Pro.
Sorry to be picky but some settings are wrong. R7 doesn't video record 4K 120 only HD. At least on my R7. Love your work and dedication in your harsh conditions compared to ours here in Australia. I recently photographed a Whimbrel here in Australia.
Its 1080p recorded in camera and upscaled to 4k in Final Cut on export.
Great images
thx
Great video again! Don't rush into your recovery too quickly.... :)
Thanks! Will do!

@@WILDALASKA now you mention it, I do remember you saying that in your last video 😂
Great video and images. Glad to see you recovering. What brand of adapter for cannon glass to Nikon z are you using?
Fringer adapter. ~ Fringer Canon EF Lens to Nikon Z Mount amzn.to/3Bjd3VL
Excellent video 👏
Thank you very much!
Lovely video thanks, you’ve managed to make me feel envious of somebody lying down amongst water, mud and rocks in freezing cold temperatures..🤣🤣
Glad you enjoyed it
Great video as always!
Glad you enjoyed!
great hunt! 🤜🤛

Bad light is not just low light and sometimes not ,low light. Bad light is type of light, atmospheric conditions, etc.
@ thank you
Seems as if that Canon to Nikon adapter works well1 Great Video!
Yes it does!
Camouflage rescue boat cushions work good for a camera rest while laying down in tidal zones to take photos of shorebirds.
Good tip. We usually use ground pods, but we did expect to spend very much time on the rocks that day.

Hi from Germany :)!
What do you guys wear to lay down in the very cold and wet underground? also those gloves etc? I need clothes like this too :D ... for the Northsea etc :)
My jacket is a Simms Challenger, pants were Helly Hanson, and the gloves are some cabalas goretex gloves.
After a few seconds, I want to return to Alaska!!
It's starting to get very green. Salmon are going to be back in the river in like 2 weeks in South Central also which is crazy.
I'm looking for a fluid video head...any recommendations?
Manfrotto A502H
which camera performs better in low light? canon r5 or z9?
Z9 has a better sensor in my opinion, but both perform amazing in low light. Your lens choice helps a ton in these situations and understanding of how to get light needed.
@@WILDALASKA thank you for sharing your experiences
Those Dowitchers are so pretty. How are you liking the Bronco Scott?
I love it. I was amazed how well it drove. Very comfy and sooth, plus goes over about anything 🤪

in the truck 😉 I talked about it in the last video as this was the behind the scenes from the discussion last week.

You're not breaking any rules. You used an f2.8 telephoto. I might sell a watch to get one someday.
