    Ordered my first pair of Brave Star True Straight "Golden Handshake" Cone Mills Selvage Denim after looking at your video. It will be a special piece as it won't be in production anymore. The good part is that it is USD 68 before adding shipping fee. Eagerly waiting for it to be shipped to me in June, another 2 more months to wait.....

    I'm in the UK and got into these guys after getting in to the American Heritage feeder brand Red Wing. Signed up to Red Wing, then Nick's and Brian the Bootmaker on insta and just as I was about to pull the trigger on a £150.00 pair of Selvedge Jeans from the UK, saw Brave Star on a Nick's post. Still considerably cheaper plus shipping to the UK than most UK established brands.
    Ordered the 18oz Slubverter II which I've matched with the raw leather belt, and I am loving them. People are asking about them. They are the shit.
    Going for the 12oz Cone Mills for summer. Phenomenal work Brave Star.

    Everytime I see these great Denim brands, I do get disappointed. Not because of their quality or attention to detail, but because of fit. As someone that's got thicker thighs than most folks, I always have hard time fitting into straight or regular fits. Stuff that's supposed to fit loose looks just as regular on other folks. I hope one of these companies would actually make stuff for people like me with athletic legs :/

    • @CarlMurawski
      @CarlMurawski  6 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      I’ve found the best bet is stretch denim, but I agree that the leg day folks are greatly underserved.

    • @m4rcoplz45
      @m4rcoplz45 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      My biggest fear when purchasing online was getting the wrong fit. Brave Star has an excellent guide. I measured my favorite jeans and based on that, picked the size and fit. You can also contact them, very helpful!

    • @mcearl8073
      @mcearl8073 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Jacques Autoritá I just bought some Levi’s 541s which are an athletic fit. They have more room in the thigh area but taper more at the legs.
      They aren’t super nice selvedge denim or anything but the ones I got were the raw denim, I’m fine happy with them, especially for the price.
      If that isn’t something you’re interested in just buy whatever fits you in the leg waist/thigh area and then have them tailored.

    • @brandengray5212
      @brandengray5212 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I spend a lot of time in the squat rack and second the 541s. A good amount of thigh room and taper well to cover a boot. Can't beat the price.

      You can try Detroit Denim they have a fit called The Boxer fit for athletic types. You can even email Eric one of the owners and he can guide you through it. Also places like 3X1 out of New York will make your jeans to order or at least guide you on fit as well. Detroit Denim can probably also make them to order as well.

    They have the most flattering fits too. Too many people try and rock these super tapered fits and look like a carrot when they don't have the legs/ body shape for it, just rock their True straights or slim straights.

My question would be how much inch you should add as "meat" around the tigh? Hi Carl, today my Timberland 6 inch premium boots have arrived on the mail. I bought them because they were on a very good price. The boots look great, I like the stitching, the leather and the rubber sole. Having said this, I think that €210(thats the retail price in Spain)/$190 for a pair of these boots is too much. What do you think about Timb boots?

      No doubt! You'll find them unbelievably comfortable once broken in. I've tried selvedge denim from other manufacturers and it just doesn't seem the same as Cone's White Oak product. Funny thing is, it's always the good stuff that ends up being discontinued whether clothing, food or otherwise!

      A lot of smaller companies do this to cut down on their stock. So instead of carrying 30x29, 30x30, 30x32, 30x34, and so on, they can stock a bunch in the same waist size. The downside is it's up to you to have them hemmed.

So far I've bought two naked and famous jeans, one is the blanka selvage in the easy guy fit, the other is the dirty fade selvage. 14.5 oz for dirty fade, 12.5 for the blanka, and 22 oz for the ones arriving in the mail. I'm thinking of buying a pair of stretch denim from Naked and Famous also. I'll update once my jeans arrive. track.shipstation.com/o/e/1Fnrbb2AFMGWYlwdvzYSBKDVjgywp3y56%2fTAlodCpfOgNLRoHwlXp37P9qeGKyRY?t=9405511699000234441955&c=1

    I never undesrtood why people like denim with lots of manufacturing defects. If we're into something because of proposed quality and are paying the price to match, I am not personally feeling super happy if my jeans are all neppy and fuzzy. Love that little booty star, great video as always Carl

    • @CarlMurawski
      @CarlMurawski  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It is a strange condition that we covet the imperfections of neppy denim, but I think it's because that is the nature of the vintage looms. If it were just shoddy craftsmanship people would feel much differently, but since this is the way denim has been woven since the very early days there is a sense of history and uniqueness to each yard of fabric. At least that's why I like it!

    Best budget-friendly choice. After I ordered 5 pairs (different weights) and diving deeper into the raw denim world, I'll never buy 'em again. Other companies got much better fitting pants and their higher prices may prevent me from spending money on too many pairs, too. ;-p

  • @jeffrittenour8202
    @jeffrittenour8202 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    when people complain about the price of selvedge, i try to make them understand that they'll want to wear them every day and probably never wear their old pants ever again after they've been converted. so you're only paying pennies a day.

  • @adrielrowley

    The only down sides are low rise and generic sizes. I have odd proportions so if going to spend over department store prices, need to fit perfectly, no belt required. Someday can not only get custom sewn in America, but fully American down to stitching and fabric.

    Dude Carl, why does all of brave star's demin run a 36" length? Is that normal with selvedge. I wear a 29" inseam. Does that mean I would have to hem them and loose the beautiful natural seem at the bottom?

    • @CarlMurawski
      @CarlMurawski  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, unfortunately you’ll find that with a lot of denim. It allows them to carry much less stock since they don’t have all lengths of hem. You could either have them hemmed or cuff them depending on the look you want. It’s kind of a bummer.
