Oh yes! I’ve been waiting on a Bravestar review, I was recommended them about 2ish more on 3 years ago. And was skeptical about the price, considering everything else was at least fifty to a hundred dollars more! I was really wanting to get some selvage and raw denim but not knowing much at the time I couldn’t justify the hundreds I’d have to pay for Japanese denim, let alone denim made in the USA. Which is what I really wanted, but I took the jump and have accumulated 3 pairs of bravestars over the years, a 14oz a 19oz and my favorite the 27oz sumos! So for anyone wanting to get into the raw denim world or just wants a pair of American style denim that they can rough up without worry I couldn’t recommend a better brand!
Love it, Javon! Thanks for the tale. I think the fades aren't quite as elaborate as some guys want from the jeans, that's the only reason I can think of as to why they're cheaper but I think they look perfectly good to non-obsessive denimheads :)
I know this is late for a 2 year old video but I was curious if anyone online had done a review and this popped up. I just ordered the sequoia 21oz from Brave Star and been wearing them for over a day and they are amazing. Great video review! Brave Star offers exceptional value but common complaints include relatively lax quality control (stitching, fabric flaws, etc.) and inconsistent sizing.
Great review! I'd say irrespective of denim weight, ANY selvedge jeans you can manage to find on Brave Star's site that are made from Cone Mill's White Oak denim, the price is just too good to pass up. It won't be too much longer before the supply of U.S. made selvedge denim dries up and prices will sky rocket. I have a pair of 14 oz jeans I bought from Mik over 5 years ago and they're still holding together with zero blowouts. They cost around US$75 at the time, and if you think about it, that's lasted well over 5 pairs of non-selvedge jeans. Their price is unbelievable and the quality is among the best.

Hey Nick. I wear mostly Japanese made jeans but my Brave Stars are in my regular rotation. They’re fantastic jeans. I love mine especially because they’re made from Kuroki Mills 18.5oz heavyweight denim. Amazing fabric. I totally agree with you about their fits. I also like high rise jeans with 5 button flies but mine are still very comfortable and wearable. They look great, too. Minor gripe; I’m not crazy about the pocket star or the selvage edge on the watch pocket. Too gimmicky IMO. Great job with the review. I’ve always been curious about these 21.5oz jeans from them. You might next try some Left Field denim right there in NYC. They’re also excellent quality American made jeans. Thanks again and I appreciate your thoughtful effort on these great reviews.
Haha I was wondering if I'd find someone who doesn't like the star. I think it's cool! Especially for such otherwise simple jeans, but I get it. A bit flashy, perhaps. You're the second guy to recommend Left Field Duke, they don't have a good variety of fits either but maybe it's worth trying!

Brave star Jeans and jackets fit better then Levi’s. 18oz jean is amazing hemming service is great 21oz double black is hard to break in but again amazing with redwing thicker boot
Great review as always. Got the 21.5 oz 32"True Straight a month ago. Have worn every day since. Have the same experience as you, Really enjoying the breaking in process. Perfect fit for me. Not a skinny jean kinda guy, but think Steve McQueen would be all over these American Made Brave Stars. Couldn't ask for more in quality and fit, especially at this price point. Think I'll go with the Suma 25 oz next time. Really enjoy the braking in journey.
I wish they had higher rises, that's the reason I haven't bought any of their jeans. Squat booties struggle with medium/low rise jeans. I do have a few of their masks (one is Cone selvedge) and a hat with vegetable tanned leather for the brim. Really nice stuff and great prices. I like the subtle star too; looks good and not too much. Just a little pop of style.
Great review! I just got a pair of N&F Elephant 9 21oz slubby for winter jeans. Definitely not as bad as I thought it would be or some people made them out to be. I find them plenty comfortable after a week of constant wear. I was cross-shopping these brave hearts but with with the slubby N&F for more potential character. We’ll see how they go!
Oh man! Take a look at Left Field NYC in Ridgewood Queens! I don’t personally have a pair of denim from them due to all the Japanese denim I have in rotation. But I have a ton of their t-shirts and two of their signature chinos. I love their stuff! I will definitely take a look at them when I need another pair of denim.
My 22oz Right Hand Twill is coming at the end of this month. Heaviest since my 18oz bravestars. I got a whole collection from 13.5 broken twill all the way to 22 now (13.5, 14.5, 16.5, 18, 22) definitely one of the best American selvedge suppliers great quality and fabrics. I can never find a fit that fits me as good as their slim straights too. My personal fav denim since im not a big slub/nep guy.
Excellent review! I bought a pair of the cone mills 12.5oz at the end of summer. I was wondering about the 21.5oz as well so this review came just in time. I agree, I wish they had more variety in the fits, especially since I like a wider thigh with a taper. The true straight is close though so I may snag a pair of the heavyweights.
@@Stridewise Bravestar was my intro to raw selvedge denim. Since then, I’ve built a bit of a collection ( Momotaro, GAP 1969, Gustin, Oni, Unbranded). But my 21.5 oz Double Blacks and 15 oz Cone from Bravestar will always hold a special place in that collection since that’s where the addiction started 😂
@@jeremysano5170 OMG, my first pairs were the 21.5 double blacks, and a pair of Cones too! haha. Just ordered another pair of 21.5s, the true straight Gauntlets. They nailed the fit in my opinion too.
For the price Brave Star is amazing, it’s not going to have all the little touches of Japanese brands, but they still make a great pair. As to the weight, I’ve never understood why people are scared of trying heavyweight denim, to this day my 25oz Iron Hearts are the most comfortable pair I own, it’s better than sweatpants.
@@Stridewise Its probably been 4 years or so since I got them from what I remember it took quite a few months to really start to break in. After a wash it probably took a week or so to stretch out again. I had them on almost daily for about 2 years before I retired them. It was a great project pair. Not nearly as bad of a break in as a pair of Nick’s boots, but in the end even more comfortable which is saying something.
@@Stridewise Great review spot on . I have two pairs of their jeans and a jean jacket . For the price and the quality i think you cant go wrong ( unless their fits don't work for you ) Naked and Famous made a 32oz denim a few times I recall . Cheers
Would love to see you review Levis Vintage Clothing. They recently introduced the 1984 501 LVC which has a high waist, high pockets in a vintage style also the 505. Given your body type that would be great to see on a video. Or any Levis (vintage clothing) jeans. I often see Levis videos on TH-cam but not LVC so you’d get some rare points. Informative video thanks!
Well if they've got a high waist I might check it out! I really am in love with tapers and it'd be hard to content myself with an old fashioned straight leg, but if it's vintage Levi's it'd be worth it I think
@@Stridewise yes vintage Levis would definitely be worth it. They are repros. And the 1984 silhouette is a slim tapered one. Definitely try some Levis LVC on in a video. Long overdue. Love to hear your knowledge
@@indianatheist2023 Oh no. Living in Canada, buying something from the US or anywhere else costs you shipping and duties. So I normally buy something from a local store during sales. These I don't believe are available outside their own online store.
Have 3 pairs of their true straight 13.5oz Cone Bluecollar, 18.5oz Japanese Slubverter II, and the 21.5oz. Also have a 21.5oz Japanese double black slim straight and the 15oz Cone Americana Ironsides jacket. All of them are beautiful. The true straight is perfect for me which I really dig just fitted enough without losing the traditional work wear look. The slim straight is a bit more snug than I'd like almost more of a tapered cut. They also just released a Japanese double black in 13oz that looks interesting and are doing preorders on their 21.5oz jackets again in both indigo and double black.
@@luckydc3761 They may be my favorite so far, nice and rigid with good heft but not comically thick. The Blue Collars feel really light even though they're almost 14oz because the denim is so smooth and a tightly woven double ring spun cotton. Personally I prefer the heavier denims though.
Been looking forward to seeing you review something American for a while. I have a Bravestar jacket made of Cone demin that I've had for a couple years and wear it everywhere. For the price you can't really beat it. For another great American brand, definitely check out Freenote. I adore by Freenote jeans
Yeah I legit don't understand how Bravestar stays in business with prices like this. Freenote is cool! I was looking at their jackets but the denim could be cool, the classic taper looks like it might fit me. I want some black jeans but from a new, cool brand...
Why would you soak them? You listed the jeans on your video as sanforized so it is already preshrunk? Not like unsanforized where it will shrink to fit when soaking,
Hi Nick, I have this one and another pair 18oz and hands down: they are amazing !!!. True: basic design, big leather patch BUT wowww. Best value for money true selvedge denim on the market!! Bye Nick
When are the LVC reviews coming, Nick? :D I am currently breaking in a pair of LVC 1947 and they are fantastic. Nothing beats the Levi's 501 silhouette imo, despite the quality not being on par to some other brands out there.
Силуэт 501 уже довольно устаревший, больше подходит для стариков. Немного зауженная штанина внизу лучше смотрится с кроссовками, кедами и ботинками. Обратите внимание на джинсы ONI 902
I have but they just don't have the fits I want. I'm not really the right guy to review jeans brands because I do a bit of powerlifting and I just don't have a very normal body type, most brands don't fit my weird thighs haha
Just curious if you have ever tried Diamond Gusset Jeans. Made in Tennessee I believe and they're my personal favorite jeans. Very comfortable, variety of fits and most of their jeans are a higher rise.
Im new in the selvege jeans ...my First pair that i bought Is named Frank royal from RDD line of Jack and Jones wiht a 70% discount, the full price Is 100 euros , thy look very good, made with 13oz japanese selvege, the fabric Is developed by Kuroki with Mikotex mill and crafted in Italy....for the price i think they are a good deal. By the way nice video , the jeans look great👍
I own 4 pairs BS denim (summerselvedge, 14, 15, 19 oz), waiting for the 25oz pair to be shipped ;-) I'd like to see a relaxed fit too . Beside that: all my jeans (size 38) need to get hemmed in the waist, they're 2 cm too wide
I preordered the Sumo 22oz and wonder if I made a mistake. Im slowly getting into the jeans and realized I opened a endless amount of doors it feels like. Im wondering if I should cancel these and order like Momotaro or Japan blue or Samurai instead.
I'm very interested in it, unfortunately they sell only at 35-36 inch length! I could buy it and cut it short, but the leg openings would become too big for my liking. :(
When I was filming I said of the low rise "i'd like to be over to bend over happily in these jeans" and then realized how sexual that sounded and had to redo it hahaha
Check out Origin Maine factory jeans!! They’re 100% American for $125. I absolutely love them! They also are breaking out into the boot industry. Definitely worth a look :)
Hey Nick. You did this review a while back. How are these jeans now? Did they soften up at all? Sounds like they were still a bit still in the review. Thanks.
Have got loads of Bravestar stuf, spent about $3,000 in the last year. Customer service and order fulfilment can be "hit and miss". half of the pre-orders I have placed over the last year have failed to be made - specifically xxxl jackets and shirts. I kept ending up with credit notes, ie giving Bravestar a long term $700 plus loan. I got some of it refunded and spent the rest on stuff I did not need at the time. Anyway their unreliability with pre-order fulfilment means I am going to buy my stuff elsewhere - even if it costs more - so I can get what I want, when I want it.
Glad you mentioned the customer service. The most important part. Sent them a simple question before purchasing...Never got a reply. So guess what. Never ordered. Unsubbed from their mailing list. Not gonna risk it.
I have a pair of 15oz bravestar. Size 33 (35inch waist) the waist stetched so much! I havnt washed them yet though. I guess what im trying to ask is, after a wash and they shrink a bit, they will most likely stretch back out to what they are right now? For my next pair would you reccomend going down a size so that they stretch to fit a bit more so I dont end up with the waist band bunching up like crazy? When i first got them they fit perfectly in the waist. But id rather suffer more in the beginning if it means a better fit later. Im looking at getting the 21 oz bravestar next. Thanks for the video and if you see my comment!
I like a slim fit with my Levi's but not sure about this style of jean? Also the lengths are wayyyy too long idk if that's because they are designed to be folded up at the bottom or what
Could you do a review on palladium boots?they’re more of a converse with steroids but I think they can serve as a decent boot considering they were once used as a legitimate boot .
35 seconds into the video, I said “Wait, didn’t the White Oak mill close it’s doors in 2017?” So I did some quick research and found out that they reopened. Nice!
I'd love to give them a try since those are great prices, but I'm like you in the fit department but even moreso with the junk in the trunk and thighs. I need a higher rise and more relaxed top block or it's a no-go. Sadly the other cheap US denim option (Gustin) suffers from this same exact problem with their fits - even their regular straight fit is like a mid-low rise that's pretty tight up top.
Haha I cut an extra full minute of me complaining about the fit, I thought it was overkill. They still look good on me I just can't bend over in them. And YES on Gustin! Everyone keeps telling me to try them but like, I can't with this ass.
@@Stridewise They're also pretty inconsistent. I got two pairs in the same fit and same tag size, and one I would describe as on the lower end of mid rise but with just enough room after stretching out to be wearable. The other pair feels a full size smaller in the top block and is definitely crack-exhibiting low rise. I still think you'd get a lot out of Left Field's Atlas cut!
@@Stridewise Thank you! Would love a belt round-up video in the future. Show us your belt collection! I've been wearing belts from Popov leather in Canada.
Hi Nick, I'm looking to try a pair of these out but I'm unsure about the sizing. On the website it says to measure the waistband of your pants and then multiply by two to get your size conversion. I would usually just order a size 33 waist which would put me in a size 31 brave star but according to their method of measuring and converting I should be ordering a size 32 brave star. Would you err on the small or large side by your experience with this brand?
Everything else I've reviewed on my channel except for the specific Onis and Iron Hearts I looked at: th-cam.com/play/PLNld8fx1Smnn2mTGC9oricAyOgpwzzAgc.html Tanuki is a brand with a lot of nice high rises
Great review couldn't agree more! I bought a pair of these and they are great but the fits are not, I've got some big legs and rear and it's impossible to find selvedge jeans that fit. So far the only luck I've had is naked and famous easy guy, but as they say... Thems the breaks lol
It would be great to see you review Uniqlo’s selvedge denim for a super budget option. They seem quite popular on r/rawdenim as a starter pair for those new to the hobby
Coming from a guy w/ butt and thick thighs, there’s no way Nick could fit his thighs in a pair of Uniqlo selvedge. The F. Riseis 10 inch (low) and B. Rise 11.5 inch at best and the thighs are slim IMO.
Thanks for your comments Jason. I would add that all my comments were based on experiences prior to the arrival of cover-19. I note that on most jackets and shirts offered over the last 18 months the xxxl option does not appear on about half the new releases, so perhaps Brave Star have realised its better not to lead customers up the path with unfulfillable pre-manufactuer offers. I do hope they prosper as their products are very much to my liking.

@@leopold-buttersstotch9353 Best jeans I've ever owned. You're trippin
Finally! I love my Bravestars. I own 3 pairs and the Cramerton chinos. Been waiting to hear your thoughts on Bravestar forever!
I'm surprised so many people were interested in my thoughts on this brand haha but I'm really happy you enjoyed it Jeremy!
25oz is wild! I'd love to try a pair like that Alex, but it must have taken months to get comfy, right?
Any chance you will review the Origin Maine factory denim jeans. They manufacture their own fabric prior to cutting and sewing their clothing.
I was waiting for those pistol squats ;). After seeing you, I started practising for pistol squats.
How can i get this in India???plz reply
@@indianatheist2023 Hey Ravi, if that question was to me, I live in Canada and don't own this denim in any case.
@@nikhilsrl Why bro is it's quality is bad?
@@indianatheist2023 Oh no. Living in Canada, buying something from the US or anywhere else costs you shipping and duties. So I normally buy something from a local store during sales. These I don't believe are available outside their own online store.
Check out Imogene + Willie for denim. Or Ginew. Both American made. Smaller businesses, hand made.
I have the Slubverter II as well. Great fabric!
I want some black jeans but from a new, cool brand...
please make a update on the Urban Shepherd boots
Why would you soak them? You listed the jeans on your video as sanforized so it is already preshrunk? Not like unsanforized where it will shrink to fit when soaking,
Hi Nick, I have this one and another pair 18oz and hands down: they are amazing !!!. True: basic design, big leather patch BUT wowww. Best value for money true selvedge denim on the market!!
Bye Nick
Yewwww!! I love Bravestar!! Here in Canberra there's noting like this here. Got 3 pairs of Bravestar, and can't wait for the sumo III 25oz to ship!!
Another good review Sir
Hah thanks to you, JD! What's your favorite denim?
@@Stridewise I'm a 10 year devotee of Tellason denim, in their 14.75 and 16.5 oz weights. Also love my 21oz Iron Hearts, which are incredibly soft.
Have you considered reviewing the American Giant jeans? Love the reviews! Thanks for providing.
Sounds like it would’ve been a better option to pick these over the 21oz Iron Hearts for the Indigo Invitational. Love the vids!!!
Haha thanks Luis! Brave Star and Iron Heart just don't have the fits I want
I have that same 21.5 oz denim for my jacket from brave star! Absolutely love it! Have you ever thought about taking a look into Gustin?
I have but they just don't have the fits I want. I'm not really the right guy to review jeans brands because I do a bit of powerlifting and I just don't have a very normal body type, most brands don't fit my weird thighs haha
Just curious if you have ever tried Diamond Gusset Jeans. Made in Tennessee I believe and they're my personal favorite jeans. Very comfortable, variety of fits and most of their jeans are a higher rise.
Great review!
Very thorough review, thanks. But I prefer to buy vtg new condition jeans, or vtg heavy wool trousers
Those comically heavy ones are great for me since I weld. Absolutely immaculate.
By the way nice video , the jeans look great👍
Man how do you take the stairs in your jeans, they look hella tight in the quad/groin ???
I feel uncomfortable looking at that thumbnail.
Dude where did you get that shirt it’s fire
Hell yeah, Good job on this one, nick... Still waiting on the Levis review from you.. 🤞🙌
Thanks Sazrul!
Thanks for he video. Is that a reversible shirt you are wearing? Looks cool, what is the brand? Do you recommend?
I'm very interested in it, unfortunately they sell only at 35-36 inch length! I could buy it and cut it short, but the leg openings would become too big for my liking. :(
I like the story of this company. They lost it, but then got it back.
Yeah it's cool, right?
Love my brave star. The only downside is some runs they don't cut to length. On another note, did you flip your shirt inside out (or outside in)?
6:24 “Bummer” LOL
When I was filming I said of the low rise "i'd like to be over to bend over happily in these jeans" and then realized how sexual that sounded and had to redo it hahaha
They only offer jeans in 36" inseam. You'll HAVE to order the hem service with anything you buy
I have 2 Brave stars and they are perfect!
How’s the fit? If I’m 30x30 in every brand, what should I order from Brave Star?
Been waiting for this one!
Hope it was worth it Camden!
Another great review
I appreciate that Arthur!
Check out Origin Maine factory jeans!! They’re 100% American for $125. I absolutely love them! They also are breaking out into the boot industry. Definitely worth a look :)
They boots look great but i pass on them because of the synthetic materials in the sole.
@@ssl33p They've fixed this issue. Been responsive to me. Seems they paid attention to these reviews.
Bought some 21.5 oz and agree with you about them needing a higher rise
Yeah it's a surprising gap, so to speak
Have you washed them yet? If so, how do they fit?
I own the same pair. Solid jeans for the $. Where else can you buy 21 oz, Japanese selvedge jeans AND have them hemmed for under $150?
I like a slim fit with my Levi's but not sure about this style of jean? Also the lengths are wayyyy too long idk if that's because they are designed to be folded up at the bottom or what
Wearing the Mayhem 21.5oz black denim. Hem it or cuff, up to you preferences
Could you do a review on palladium boots?they’re more of a converse with steroids but I think they can serve as a decent boot considering they were once used as a legitimate boot .
i'd check out rose anvil's breakdown of palladiums
@@PolarisIII hahah I’ve seen it, thanks tho. I just like the way this guy reviews stuff
Need to check those out!
do you think the true straight will look good in cowboy boots?
Love your vid!
35 seconds into the video, I said “Wait, didn’t the White Oak mill close it’s doors in 2017?” So I did some quick research and found out that they reopened. Nice!
I've asked so many people about this, I was confused too!
My 15oz Ironside Jacket from them is ridiculous. Nothing else I've seen type 3 wise touches it and it's sooooo cheap relatively.
This is what I didn't know I was looking for...
Haha hope it was helpful Daniel
How much do they typically shrink after the first wash?
Not a ton honestly. Like they aren't close to reverting to the original size
Where is the belt from in the thumbnail? Looks real nice.
thursday's terracotta heritage belt
@@Stridewise Thank you! Would love a belt round-up video in the future. Show us your belt collection! I've been wearing belts from Popov leather in Canada.
Hi Nick, I'm looking to try a pair of these out but I'm unsure about the sizing. On the website it says to measure the waistband of your pants and then multiply by two to get your size conversion. I would usually just order a size 33 waist which would put me in a size 31 brave star but according to their method of measuring and converting I should be ordering a size 32 brave star. Would you err on the small or large side by your experience with this brand?
I know this is old but what oil/conditioner did you use for your belt?
Any possible chance of reviewing denim jacket offerings from such companies?
That’d be cool. I just ordered Bravestar’s 15oz Ironside. Can’t wait!
What kind or fit are the jeans shown in the video please?
What do you think of their lesser weight Cone Mills jeans?
I have 3 light weight cone mills jeans from them and they’re great.
I have a bravestar jean and the fit is loose on the waist but tight in the seat and thighs. Does your bravestar fit like mines?
What are the high rise alternatives, especially a high rice in the back?
Everything else I've reviewed on my channel except for the specific Onis and Iron Hearts I looked at: th-cam.com/play/PLNld8fx1Smnn2mTGC9oricAyOgpwzzAgc.html
Tanuki is a brand with a lot of nice high rises
Brave Star makes a great jean but the fits are tricky. I have one pair of Slim Straight that ended up well the rest are True Straights.
Glad you agree!
Great review couldn't agree more! I bought a pair of these and they are great but the fits are not, I've got some big legs and rear and it's impossible to find selvedge jeans that fit. So far the only luck I've had is naked and famous easy guy, but as they say... Thems the breaks lol
dude, what model of belt you wearing on preview image, looks sick 👍
Haha that's the Thursday heritage belt :)
What bright is that in the thumbnail?
Nice jeans. What you think about Gustin jeans? As for me,Gustin very cool jeans.
They seem cool but they don't have any fits for me
So are you actually a 32 in “normal” brands? I’m not sure what size to order. I’m usually 33 in most Levi’s unless they’re stretchy.
What model/cut of jeans are these?
What weight of jeans do you wear most often?
like 15-18
Did you get any dye bleed from these?
I love the pike brothers, 1937 and 1958.
What is your inseam? Did you get the custom hem service? If not did you have to cuff them a bunch of times?
Nope, no custom hemming, just rolled up them cuffs
@@Stridewise what is your typical inseam? I usually buy a 32” and cuff two rolls
@@stevestratton1888 I'm 6 feet tall with a 30 inch inseam, I got short legs
It would be great to see you review Uniqlo’s selvedge denim for a super budget option. They seem quite popular on r/rawdenim as a starter pair for those new to the hobby
Yeah that's actually a good idea, I might actually get some views reviewing such a big brand haha
@@Stridewise Levis (vintage clothing) also is a good option for hits on this channel. You make great content btw !
Coming from a guy w/ butt and thick thighs, there’s no way Nick could fit his thighs in a pair of Uniqlo selvedge. The F. Riseis 10 inch (low) and B. Rise 11.5 inch at best and the thighs are slim IMO.
What is the cut on those jeans?
Thanks for your comments Jason. I would add that all my comments were based on experiences prior to the arrival of cover-19. I note that on most jackets and shirts offered over the last 18 months the xxxl option does not appear on about half the new releases, so perhaps Brave Star have realised its better not to lead customers up the path with unfulfillable pre-manufactuer offers. I do hope they prosper as their products are very much to my liking.
