  • Carhartt or Duluth? It's a question I ask myself almost every time I need new clothes for work. It wasn't until I began digging that I found the key differences between Carhartt and Duluth Trading Co. so I figured it would be fun to compare these two in a video. Truly there is no winner or loser here, they both offer exceptional products for the money and have both served me well on the job site.

Reviews of clothing, boots, and accessories for men, along with style advice and life philosophy. I've been working with my hands for my entire life as a mechanic, tow truck driver, and eventually a licensed electrician. Being a blue collar guy, I look for certain elements in a product: is it durable? Is it high-quality? Will it perform well over its service life? Whether boots, pants, jackets, or tools I believe it's best to buy once and cry once by getting the best you can afford. With so many options these days, choosing the best product can become a difficult decision, but that's where I come in. Helping you stay stylish, rugged, and handsome.
I don't care where it's made as long as it's made well, and allows you to buy less and buy better.

And yes they make fire hose 5 pocket jeans. they make them in heavyweight & midweight in both fire hose & blue denim & they make a 10oz flex Jean in both with a 1oz spandex they block the wind but still cool enough for summer. And their buck naked tees in a variety of colors are more comfortable than underarmer in hot temperatures.

As a female, trying to find a sturdy pair of winter work gloves, it was almost impossible. Trying to even find men's gloves in a small? Forget about it! Enter Duluth Trading Company. Yes, they carry women's work (and I do mean extra sturdy) gloves, and yes, they're warm. They also have a layer of Neoprene. Water stays out, but they "breathe" so your hands don't sweat. @@debrussell4921 Now I can't personally attest to how great Duluths women's wear is but I can say (as I am a sales associate) that most of our clothing does run slightly bigger and our plus sizes are made to fit a lot better than the regular sizes. The regular sizes are based off the small size if I remember correctly and just scaled up or down while the plus sizes, they took the time to add fabric where it is needed to help clothing fit just perfectly. I hope this helps you a bit. If you are able, I would highly suggest making it in-store as they will be able to help you a lot.

I’ve got a carhartt jacket that I got when I was in HS in 2006. Almost 20 years later and I still wear it every winter and it’s still in perfect shape. It doesn’t get abused often, but I can honestly say at this rate I will have it the rest of my life.

    My Duluth experience:
I'm a pretty cheap dude when it comes to clothing, I buy most of my daily wears at goodwill or the salvation army second hand store. About a year ago I found a pair of Duluth fire hose pants at a goodwill for about $10, they quickly became my absolute, hands down favorite pants I've ever owned.
After several months of wearing them I wanted another pair so I googled Duluth, wouldn't you know they just opened a new store just a couple months ago 20 miles from me in the rat infested city of Portland Oregon.
I'm a 46-48 waist, the pants I had did not have a size listed anywhere, the only way I knew they were Duluth was their name was on the zipper and button....no patches or any other indication.
So I brought them in as a model to show to tell them "I want an exact pair like these". I approached the cashier with pants in hand and started to tell the associate "I got these from goodwill and........"
He cut me off right after I mentioned goodwill and said "I can't take these, they aren't even mine". As he was blabbering about not being able to refund them I told him "hey, I brought these to buy another pair, I'm not bringing them back, I love them and want another pair".
He then sized them up and told me "these are ancient, from the mid 90's and all we have are these ". Which were the same but better which I went on to buy a pair online cause they didn't have my size. Now I have a brand new pair in addition to my ancient pants. Best damn pants I've ever owned, never dreamed I'd spend $80 on a pair of pants.
To anyone who carrys 2 guns, a knife, flashlight and a bunch of trauma gear I would reccomend these pants to. That was long winded but it was MY experience with Duluth. Best damn pants money can buy!
    Brian

I started wearing them because I kept wearing out my jeans after only a couple months, my pants have already passed the point where they brake even when compared to the cost of patching up a pair of jeans to make them last this long and there are no large holes.

I know, they're trying to modernize their products, and making things "slimmer" by removing a lot of their materials that added that great durability and quality. I wanted to rebuy the same work pants I had from 8 years ago, nothing wrong with them, still in great condition, I just wanted to have a spare for the colder months; so I go onto their site, and they no longer make it, instead, they offer the "newer" model, I go ahead and order it. The older quilted lined work pants have been replaced with flannel lined pants. What use to be a jacket for you legs in the old model is now just regular pants with pajamas bottoms sewn into the lining. They were completely subpar to what they use to make. So I go hunt down every mom and pop store that would carry the brand, hoping that they might still have some for sell, be it no one bought them from them, or whatever. Unfortunately, I didn't find a pair. But that's what I've noticed about them, they're not building quality garments anymore, they're an established brand, and feel like they cheapen their standard because they're so trusted. Now if you want their proven durability, you have to buy their premium line, meaning same old quality, but a bigger price tag.

    • @JJ-lu6mg

Carl Murawski I believe the problem with Carhartt as far as their quality today. I think a lot of the fashion version of there clothline is getting mixed up with their original gear. Carhartt has a lot of different options now from very heavy duty to light weight durability work cloths on top of their fashion line and it just making it harder for most people to know what to buy for work.

The carhartt double front duck pants are awsome my favorites for when I'm either doing below slab grade work (I'm an electrician as well) or when running g pipe and only need a few things to carry well made holds strong

Those are amazing, and if I’m not mistaken they’re made in the USA too! 🇺🇸

I've always been a huge carhartt guy! Then I tried Dickies and they preformed very well! I am excited to try my pair I'm getting! First time trying Duluth. I've heard mixed things so, what better way to solve it by doing my own research and testing! I'm really pumped

I can the Buck Naked underwear actually feel amazing. I like comfort and after paying a little bit more than I wanted to for my first pair and wore them I was hooked. Ive had my first pair for 6 yrs now and they’re fine. I buy them when they have sales and they have other products that I’ve tried like the Brick soaps. Your choice but I love em. Thank you!

Dulluth is the best my husband loves them , he's an electrician and has most of the styles , he recently burnt a hole with battery acid and dulluth exchanged them no questions asked . My husband carries a flashlight in hammer loop on left and a Murphy pouch from atlas 46 on right hammer loop . He claims this is his favorite carry.

Caraharrt has been a favorite of west coast hip hop since the late 80’s.

Damn, I forgot! You're absolutely right, and the music from that era of hip hop blows away anything today imo.

The very first of pair of Duluth Trading Post Firehose pants I started wearing was purchased for $20 on eBay. It might have been used, but I'm still wearing it 5 years later (i did research out in the forests of northern CA and Wyoming and needed protection from the thorny bushes and trees). I've purchased 2 more pairs whenever they were on sale (like $45 at 40% off). Their flex firehose pants are less thick but stretch more (great if you have to squat or sit on the floor) and feel cooler in the heat of summer, but don't look like they'll last as long as regular firehose pants. I've also bought their firehose jackets and a bunch of other stuff on their website. Do note that not all the products they carry are made in the USA - some to their T-shorts are made in China.

I had ripped a lot of Carhartt stuff over the years workin and then doing searches leashed to a SAR/cadaver dog.. constantly dragged trough thorn bushes, fallen pine tree limbs that break and leave sharp ends, dragged over sand dunes and down river beds.. through abandoned structures and construction sites and crack houses, etc. Spouse looked at me after a bad 3 day chase.. thighs ripped through, butt had a triangle rip in it...belt loops ripped out, dirt ground in and sap stuck in them .. She went surfing to find a better answer than the blood soaked Carhartts.
3 days later I got 2 pairs of black Duluth Fire hose work pants.. Never going back, ever! Spent years in the trades until injuries took me out of the field.. wish these were around 30 years ago. The fire hose weave seems to breathe and shed dirt much easier, just let it dry and brush it off with a stiff brush in the field. No more rips from thorns.. yeah they can get through, but don’t tear open. Belt loops never rip out. Pocket you can drop a full sized pistol in and retain it.. put a piece of plastic in those thigh pockets and zero “printing” so you can ask the public questions without them freaking out.
Duluth has always been great to us, Wife loves their underwear, shirts, work pants as well .. they just opened a store nearby but we bought online for years prior to that.
There are even more durable work clothes out there, well drillers, ocean platform workers and fire jumper need even stronger stuff.. but 5 times the price and pretty stiff until broken in ( fine for boots, but pants.. no).

Carhartt started manufacturing "fashion" clothing for hipsters and yuppies. Turned their back on real working people. Even their "real" work clothing isn't as tough as it used to be.

You are correct most people that wear it now don’t actually buy it for work they buy it to pretend they need it for work! My carhartt coats didn’t hold up ! I have duluth holds up well and is actually warm ! I have fleece lined firehouse work pants have been through hell and back like 15 years old now even saved me from a run away grinder

I’ve got an older car hart zip up sweater and it’s stained to shit and crusty and I wear it everyday when I go to work and the only place it’s ripped is where my wrists are my friends from school are scared to wear theirs when they eat lunch.....

This is true. New leadership at the top has encouraged it and they’ve moved to designer rather than practical. We sell Carhartt women’s socks at the yard now...I only see it getting worse.

There are good qualities in all of them.

I wear Dickies long sleeve shirts because they are what I can get but I wish the arms had more material. Very tight and I am no body builder, just average size arms. Dickies long sleeve shirt arms are too tight and short, ride up on the wrists.

Ive been wearing Carhartt double layer duck jeans for years. Similar to firehose jeans. I bought my first pair two years ago, and they’re still in almost perfect condition. The black is just a bit faded
