The Kavalier, I swear you had another jeans review video that had some really cool brands in it that I wanted to check out. I feel like you either removed the video or put it on private mode. Some people in the comments were criticizing your jeans saying they were "Too tight" or whatever... Do you know what I'm talking about? I wish you would put that video back up because I can't find it on your channel and it had brands I liked on it...

A short note on the 6% polyester in the Revtown - usually, if you combine a good elasthane fibre with around 6% polyester and weave this into a denim fabric your fabric will have a much better performance in terms of stretch recovery. 100% cotton fabrics will never achieve the same recovery performance as fabrics with mixed fibre composition.
    Great channel by the way!

I really enjoyed this. I'm a woman into denim/raw denim and rely on you men for info as hardly any women cover this stuff. Still, I don't mind, I'm grateful to have access to this info. Unfortunately, back in the 90s, I bought my first pairs of raw denim and didn't have a clue - putting them in the washing machine - came out ruined!!! I wish this resource was around at the time! Thank you!

Now this is my kind of roundup! So glad you picked bravestar - you’re dead on - they’re clearly the best bang for your buck. It’s interesting that once you know your fabrics, like cone denim, you start to wonder where the markups come from. To me that’s why bravestar wins- the same premium fabrics but directly to you for the best price too! Gotta get me some!

My favorite jeans brand: Mavi, Nudie and Citizens of Humanity. Mavi fabric is very very soft and comfy. I have one pair of Gustin jeans, but I think it's atypical for their selvedge style so it's hard to judge against their typical fare. I have a very light weight thin summer-weight jean from them. Non-stretchy. They look great, but I chose slim fit, and it's a little tight. I will choose straight fit next time I get jeans from them.

I love you man!!! More than you would think...as you are my personal mannequin of sorts. I am a denim head blossoming from a personal history of just every day consumer denim wearing, and noticing the quality drop throughout the years. A $30 pair of Levi’s 501’s bought in 1989, are equaled in quality today by brave star’s $100, specially ordered jeans! Kinda sad.... Anyway, I am 6’2” and 167lbs. I purchase (store bought) 32”x34” jeans. But have noticed our pant fit matches. So I trust your experience in sizing. Which makes it super easy for me. You research and recommend...and I go purchase without follies, by your personal sizing. Thank you!!🙏

For Gustin I dont mind the wait. Bravestar is next on my list but they dont have my pants size available and not everyone is a fan of the star. Gustin is a cleaner looking with better stitching compared to bravestar. Bravestar is quick on the shipping when I got their denim jacket but stiching wasnt clean for the sleeve cuts. I wouldnt go for micro denim brands that dont source where their denim are from. Naked and famous are decent on massdrop. Gustin wins hands down if you dont mind the wait. Bravestar is actually low on stock in my size for past 4 months ive been eyeing their denim pants.

Yea... APC, Nudie are the high and fashion ones.
If you’re looking for other “true” denim head brands I’d look at Rogue Territory (LA) and 3Sixteen (NY). There are also the crazy ones like Roy (made by one guy... in his workspace) and can fetch $360+ for a pair.
On a side note, the comments about Guston are interesting. Would love to see your thoughts on Taylor Stitch as they seem to have found a true “middle ground” in the funding/stock space.

Other brands worth considering (that haven't been mentioned yet) from Japan: Samurai, Big John, and Iron Heart. They are all quite pricey though. Few American brands that don't get much recognition but their selvedge is totally worth it are: Leftfield NYC, Raleigh Denim, and Shockoe Atelier.

My one pair of Bravestar Jeans started coming apart at the seams really quickly. Gustin's quality and stitching is far better than Bravestar. Bravestar's instock jeans don't ship for at week, so expect an approximate two week wait for instock items too. I can't recommend Bravestar.

After turning 40 I pretty much stopped wearing blue denim, I just don’t find it appropriate for my age and style, I feel much better in tailored trousers or chinos but I also can’t find a wash I like. If I do feel like denim or when my choice of footwear suggests it, it’ll be grey Replay Anbass tapered or deep black Replays. I’ve been looking at a bunch of blue denim vendors, Replay, Jacob Cohen, A.P.C.,..., not a single one blue wash that I would really wish to have.

I get a tear in almost all of my jeans except 2, both from American Eagle idk if I am onto something so someone let me know. 1 is 100% cotton boot cut, and I am assuming durable, but very constricting in movement, and that's the case for all that seem 100% cotton. I am assuming it's lasted me because I can barely move. 2 has nearly 20% synthetics and is an extreme flex pair. I actually love this pair, it cost a lot, but seems to hold up so damn well, although finding the exact match of the blend seems to be hard. Should I just normally look for more synthetics the better?

This is a pretty damn good vid! I really wanna get into raw denim however I lack the funds at the mo. Got a pair of Topman raws which were super cheap but are, I feel, a great "starter" pair of raw jeans before going into entry level ie Levis. Got a couple of Levis and Nudies too. Brands I'm interested in getting some Naked and Famous, Hiut, Unbranded Brand and also Flat Head denim too. Also, I agree, a slim fit/skinny fit I think is better. Great vid!

eBay is littered with cheap new raw denim that people have bought the wrong size or the cut didn’t flatter their body shape .
I know my size in different brands that l like and keep watch , I’ve got $200.00 jeans for as cheap as $10.00 .

I love the Turkish made Levi's the best - so opposite of their mass line. I like unbranded--how about talking about luxury brand jeans - Prada, Brunello Cucinelli, etc.

Have you ever tried Seven (for all mankind) "Slimmy jeans? Not sure if they have your sizing (I'm 6'3", 31 1/2"), though I'm curious your opinion.
    Grazi!

So isn't Woodies using that "outdated" model of placing your order and waiting several months? Seems to me they've already developed their product and are just using the Kickstarter model to make one more efficient factory run, efficient in that every shirt made has a customer.

Just going through process of finding denim similar. My main issue is finding one with a higher rise. Almost all slim are low or medium which on my tall ass is like a low.

Checking out Blue Japan from Denimio. High tapered rise. I bet Carl would love to work with you on denim!

I would avoid DSTLD. Since this video has been made, DSTLD has drastically changed the quality, fit and sourcing of its products. The lack of transparency and customer service from the company should cause consumers to question their products.

Any recommendations for figuring out skinny vs slim (specifically for Gustin)? I aim for a neat, trim look that doesn't look like leggings. For some brands that means skinny, while for others it means slim. Have you tried both/able to compare? The fit of your Gustin pair in this video is what I'm going for - but that might mean a skinny pair for me.

      @The_Kavalier  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Good luck. I’ve had multiple pairs of gustin and I’m between slim and skinny but I haven’t been able to figure out how they cut on different models. Hueguh did a good video on measuring for jeans and that’s the risk we take with online ordering!

Hey Kavalier, , great video! I've definitely been paying more attention to denim, the fits, colour etc over the last year or so. So far Levis have been great for me.
Speaking of Levis, do you have that article link you mentioned in the video? Thanks!

I own about 5 pairs of Naked and Famous, love them all. Also own a pair of Rag & Bones, which I enjoy. I found the Levis burn out in the crotch fast. Naked and Famous make some great jeans!

Short guy here, get them hemmed. Either from the company themselves or someone in your area that owns a union special machine and can do chain stitching. Self edge in LA and SF does it, standard and strange in Oakland does too. Not sure where you are located
