    Thanks for watching! You can snag an Ace Pro here: bit.ly/LRAcePro

      You can make the gopro footage better on manual settings with higher shutter speed. Action 4 does the same on very low light, also in that manually setting higher shutter speed resolves the issue. Though if the frame is too dark then the stabilization will break again. Still the Ace Pro on automode is doing superb job and definitely earns top stars for that performance.

    • @GnarlyBearMTB
      @GnarlyBearMTB ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kaltask1 you’re gonna get more noise if you raise the shutter speed. 1/1.3 inch sensors allow for less noise via less ISO if shutter and aperture are the same. You raise the shutter, you have to raise the ISO.

    • @kaltask1
      @kaltask1 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@GnarlyBearMTB true and as stated if the image is too noisy or dark the stabilization will break again. But this footage could maybe had been fixed as in fix the stabilization with manual settings. You can denoise the footage after. not the best but I would do that if GH12 or OA4 had that issue while riding murky woods.

    • @GnarlyBearMTB
      @GnarlyBearMTB ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@kaltask1 Gotcha you’re saying it would have been more “fair” stabilization-wise if the shutters were the same? That makes sense to me

    • @kaltask1
      @kaltask1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GnarlyBearMTB well it's not very usable footage if the stabilization is not able to kick in. The shutter would not be the same on both camera, in Gopro manually setting faster shutter it could have more and better images to adjust the image stabilization. Now the shutter is too long and image is bouncing around and all it has to adjust the stabilization is blurry images. Like taking a long exposure image and kicking the camera while you are at it. This is also why if the image is too noisy, eventually that can also break the stabilization. If the whole thing was "auto mode" battle sure Ace wins hands down and I am not saying otherwise. Even if gopro was set to manual mode, Ace would win. But if you have GP12 or Action 4 and have footage like that, it's good to know that there are options to combat that and not always just trust "auto" mode.

    Are you saying the Gopro footage around 10:30 is all the best you know to do with a Gopro? Maybe you should have another 2-hour call, but this time with the Gopro team so they show you how to properly configure the camera.

    • @MacellaioNero
      @MacellaioNero 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's the low light context. In order to actually resolve an imagine, the GoPro is having to automatically decrease the shutter speed to let more light into the sensor. The stabilisation requires a high shutter speed to function, and since it can't have that without producing an underexposed image, you get this horrid stuttering instead. You can literally see this happening if you know what to look for, as lower shutter speeds increase motion blur, and the GoPro footage has far more motion blur - pause it at any point and you'll see. In good light, both cameras would look far more comparable, but I guess that's the point of the test.

      I'll start by saying, I can't stand my fkn GoPro 10 black, it's fkn unreliable, over heats to damn quick and in cool weather to spite me. But the GoPros are the clearest and most stable of all action cams. The only time you get something as shotty as what was shown by this knuckle head is when you change some specific setting combined with stabilization. For the life of my I cannot remember what it was, if it was the frames per second or what have you, but the hardcore editors that work with GoPro know this as they all mention it. Given, low light sucks, but the settings here were modified.

    • @brianb380

      The stability test was deliberately done in low light settings to show the difference between the two cameras. In order to compensate for the low light the cameras have to lower the shutter speed, which is impacting the stabilization quality of the GoPro. Since the Ace Pro has a bigger sensor, more light can be let in without having to drop the shutter speed, hence the stabilization also looks better. In daylight, you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between the two cameras.

    The MTB test was very compelling. I evaluate all action cameras under their most challenging useage application. Low light, highlight recovery, auto ISO, exposure, color balance, stabilization, ease of use, reliability and how the video image holds up in color grading. As a pro videographer, I’ve had a number of different GoPros since Hero 2, currently using a Hero 10 (which I use infrequently). I swear I’ve always had so many issues using the GoPro’s. They’re always switching modes, recording/not recording unintentionally, constant issues connecting/reconnecting wireless remote, batteries not seating/charging properly in that stupid 2-battery charger, difficult touchscreen/menus, poor auto-ISO, exposure and color balance mgmt, etc, etc. Then there’s the super wide-angle lens I never really liked even though I often use wide angle lenses with other cameras. Only the most recent generation GoPro’s were of ANY use as an outward-facing camera (they were primarily selfie cameras until Hero 9). I’m usually only happy with GoPro footage when it’s on a gimbal. Contrastingly, my DJI drones and Pocket 2/3 always impress me and get WAY more use than GoPro’s, not to mention DJI’s constant innovation, variety in product lines, new releases, firmware upgrades, etc. The Mavic 2 Pro was so good, I got nearly 4 years out of it before upgrading. Now, this Insta360 Ace Pro looks considerably better than their other models, which, due to the poor image quality, I’ve never thought had a place in a professional edit, except maybe a D-camera novelty shot. Of course, it was more suited to some applications than most… i.e., a wingsuit or BASE jump. As I’ve never used an Insta360 product, I don’t know how easy and reliable they are to use, but the Leica lens, large sensor and superior image stabilization is very compelling. My more recent activities… WW kayaking, MTB and off-roading necessitates ease of use and reliability as I can’t be constantly f#

I've see other video's on this very same channel using older gopro's and they didn't look half as bad and I know my Hero 8 would produce better video and stabilization than what was shown here with the right settings. The biggest sell to me on GoPro is when I don’t want to color grade and edit the hell out of my files and GoPro footage looks good enough out of box. It’s one thing they always got right. It hits the “average person’s” perception of “nice looking” just perfectly 90% of the time. Is it pro grade worthy footage particularly when it’s not sunny? Nope, no one would grab a GoPro for that. It’s all about balance. How many times did I take a cool photo with my iPhone. Could I spend much more effort and time setting up my pro gear and take a better pic. Sure. It also doesn’t support 10bit, it would’ve been nice to see some color grading examples and not just the camera’s color science defaults. No mention of battery life or overheating issues which are probably good points when comparing it to a GoPro and given it has a new fancy AI chip helping with stabilization.
      If its only new feature is better frame by frame processing then that doesn’t seem like much of a tech leap. I’d definitely wait for actual consumer reviews before buying this right after the review embargo was up for tech TH-camrs..

    The shutter speeds seem to be different during the mountain bike comparison. There is much more motion blur on the GoPro, indicating the sensor is receiving more light resulting in improved sensor performance and less chaotic visuals. If this is so, the ace has a significant disadvantage and yet preforms much better.
    This may also be a difference in sensor readout speed. This seems extremely unlikely as the ace sensor is larger and has more pixels.
    Does anyone else have thoughts on this?

    I have a couple of the insta360 cameras and one thing no one mentions is support after you buy it. If you need to have the camera replaced it will take about a month as it needs to be sent in and then they ship you a replacement from China. I have had to have a my camera replaced a couple of times and waiting a month to get it, was pretty disappointing. Also support is based out of China so it takes a day or two of back in forth to just get the process going.

    I wish Insta360 would produce a helmet cam version of this. It would have the following differences:
    1. No need for a screen, let alone a flip screen, because the cam is mounted on the helmet in a fixed position. This reduces size, power needs and cost. It just needs a button and config via BT/phone.
    2. Without a screen, the entire back can be a clip-on battery (of different sizes). It can be changed without dismounting from the helmet.
    3. Analog or generic USB audio in. Motorcycle mics are inside the helmet to reduce wind noise and amplify any verbal audio. It should have configurable gain and/or good AGC.
    4. BT audio in. Partner with helmet headset/intercom makers like Cardo and Sena to make this simple/automatic and get both the rider and paired intercom audio.

In your review, you have mentioned the view is slightly cropped compared to superview and you would not run the ace pro on the chin for that reason.
