I noticed she hasn't been answering, maybe super busy............. I love her ideas! It gave me many things to think about. ......The main questions: Yes, you can thin some acrylic paint and use it, any color. Spray paint dries too fast to wipe off, so use an acrylic, like craft paint, artist tube-paint such as Liquitex or any brand, don't worry about brands, think more about thinking it just enough to be able to dab on and wipe off............ A gold, metallic, or pearlized paint as the first color would also be cool, if silver isn't your thing. You don't have to spray paint, she was just giving another way to do it, some people live where they can't really spray...... and any darker color will help set off the nooks and crannies, any color of the rainbow, or black, brown (or mix a little brown into the black so it isn't harsh looking, if it looks harsh to you). Could also paint main part silver and then go back over with thinned gold or copper for the deeper parts, have different metallics. Play and have fun. .............And...about eggshells and the membrane, yes, clean it out, it can degrade. Eggshells are calcium and won't degrade under normal circumstances (without a solvent).......... Methods: Other commenters have said: Bake 'em at 350°F for an hour, or boil for 10 minutes or so and they come out. Or, soak in vinegar for 10 min (but the longer they are in vinegar, the more the shell breaks down, so my own self, I'd try baking first, so they don't absorb water and become weaker, or vinegar and break down. ..........Think about vinegar, we use it to get rid of hard water lines and deposits on showers and vases, etc., which is usually calcium and lime, and eggshells are mostly calcium, so, best not to soak too long, it will weaken them.................... You could also dye them like you do Easter eggs (yes, with a little vinegar to help it absorb the color, and some food coloring, but use strong color so it's not for very long, seconds or a few minutes), with whatever random colors, (test a little piece first!) and decorate and seal with varnish, for a softer coloring........................ There is some question about shoe polish, bc it may not play well with acrylic over time. I see it mostly was bc it was easy to rub off. Most people have acrylic anyway if they're painting, so just thin some just enough to spread and rub off. If it's going to dry too fast, you can work in sections, just never let the edge dry out, it won't blend. Do just enough that your working area stays wet, so the next section you do will blend in........... Can also use any glaze mixed with the paint, even house faux-glaze, makes paint a bit transparent, but it's another thing to try....and dab off with a dry or damp (test your preference) cloth. I like a damp cloth, rinsed often in a bucket of water, and I keep 2, for when one gets too dirty. If it's drying fast, a damp cloth over the wet area may slow it down 'til you get to it, but have everything ready. Hope that helps someone....

I just tried this. It turned out pretty good! For those asking about finishing work and modge lodge I just used generic modge podge from Michaels. I then finished it off for sealing it with just a regular spray can of adhesive. I sprayed it once a day for three days letting it dry in the garage. Instead of using shoe polish because I was scared of getting the wrong kind I used gold trim craft paint that I dabbed on with a sponge and it looks really pretty. I'd suggest putting your egg shells into a zip lock bag over night and letting them fully dry before applying. I was impatient and it took longer to dry with the mod podge being wet. Dunno how long it will hold up but I'm sure long enough for it to be worth the time to do it. Use a SMALL canvas board for this project!!!

This is really cool although I don't really know what I could use this technique on! Have you ever tried this with leaves? I did one once where I used good ol Elmer's and thinned it down a bit with water and dipped the leaves first and then applied them to the canvas. Then with acrylic I painted over them and created the painting. Now I am going to watch your hot glue video! You have some really cool ideas!
