Oh Lordy Girl, Don't stop now. I'm very into using canvas over journals and you are helping my brain cramps. Not enough canvas videos. Keep the ideas flowing. These shells could be put down in white a bit smaller and flatter as mosaic in strategic areas and other art still filling the balance of the canvas. Oh I forgot to say instead of heavy acrylics, if they were white they could be colored with watercolor, inktense or a couple secrets up my sleeve. I love what you're doing here. Just quit cutting the sound out on those bathtub singers. That's adorable.
Since we recycle our food scraps into our gardens I 'clean' the egg shells before they go into the compost bucket. To remove the membrane from shells I dump the shells into soapy water, let sit for few minutes and then rub with finger or thumb the membrane from inside the shell. Easy and quick and should do the job for use in your texture art. Enjoyed the video and the ideas. thanks for sharing.
I luv your eggshell on canvas work. I am a firm believer in using various medium to produce art. Mother nature has bestowed upon personkind so much materials we can use to produce beautiful art. Thank you for sharing your beautiful works.
I ran hot water inside the shells and it worked great! Just peeled right off! :) I am saving up the egg shells to do this project soon super excited! :D Thank you for sharing the egg shell technique!
Awesome texture...looks like reptile/dragon skin..I'm gonna give this a go as soon as I get enough egg shells(my mate has chickens so I can get plenty of free eggs:)...) I am gonna do a dragons eye surrounded by green scales....again awesome texture..cheers from Australia...:)
I have been going thru all diff sites and you have more than anyone and so eaisy to follow. Keep them interesting and easy enough for everyone. Your great at this!
Subscribed. I love this technique! Such frugal talent. Genius! While I watched I was envisioning a giant rooster piece with this technique being used for the comb on top of its head. Thank you so much for the inspiring video(s). I am on my way to watch your others! Please, please keep them coming!
Another way to remove the membrane from the shell. When you empty shell, dip your finger in pure vinegar. Run in the inside of the washed out egg shell, the vinegar is acidic and there's no problem with pushing the membrane out of the shell as well you will be able to tear it out. Hope this is explained well enough. (Jan. 29/15).
+Amy Pearce (Her Art from the Attic) Can you please answer +beetlewing's question in regards to using shoe polish? "Am I missing something? What's the advantage of shoe polish over just using a black paint wash? How does shoe polish handle additional layers of paint or a clear coat? Don't get me wrong - enjoyed the video."
I just discovered your channel, this is awesome! I saw a video last night about using egg shells. This girl ground up some egg shells, and she sprinkled it in between the big ones. It was a really cool effect.
I absolutely love the texture . I dabble in abstract and have a thing for textures . this is an amazing idea , so creative, Fantastic. Thank you for sharing,.
Before watching this I collected eggshells and I already had the skin out of the shells. I just took the skin out while the eggshells were still hot. The same as I remember way back when we used eggshells for easter crafts. You may find other ideas if you search easter egg crafts somewhere online. After watching: did this same stuff when I was a kid. Makes great for a sandy beach painting and great for easter baskets in a painting, tulips are beautiful done with eggshells. Thanks
Really cool though labor intensive. I can see using this technique for pebbles on a beach, for dragon scales, for the fruit of various palm trees, for snake skin. So many possibilities with a little creative thinking. Thanks so much Amy!
You make great teaching videos Amy - very clearly explained and demonstrated (I having a teaching background). And I love the idea - will be using eggshells in an artwork when I have enough.
Amy this is beautiful and really cool!!!! I love the texture it gives and the shoe polish, wow!! I had never even thought to use shoe polish. You give me so many great ideas! I love your videos including this one so thumbs up to you !! Big Hugs!! Reeah.
I have to add this to the video. I did a 6' X 6' wall art and the texture was ALL eggshells. And, every time I walk by it I rub my hand on it LOL. Thank you so much for the idea and now I have a TON of dried eggshells ready to use as texture :)
I put shells in bowl of water microwaved for 2 mins. Remioved shells let cool membrane peels right out . Also filled a few medicine bottles with food color and dyed eggs. When hard boiling eggs poke pin hole in end membrane peels off easy and eggs easy to peel
I really like this idea. I have been collecting eggshells for a massive project for months and all I do is wash the shells out, leave them to dry for a few days and then use something like the bottom of my water bottle to mash them up... as they have been left for a while the membrane becomes quite stiff or 'crispy' and so is much less skin like. There is no way I could do what you have done and peel off the membrane as I have no patience for that!!!
This is a great video! Thanks so much for sharing. I'm involved with an art sharing project and the theme of the project are either Halloween or fall. I'm going to do fall, I don't do Halloween so it's fall for me and I'll try this technique for background. The only negative is you don't answer people's questions or comment when you tell their technic for removing the membrane.
I use crushed eggshells in my garden and find that the inside 'skin' comes away easily in the way I clean them. When I do my dishes from whatever I've cooked I put them in the dishwash water and run my thumbs around the inside of the shell until the 'smooth' feel has gone. When they dry before I crush them it seems there is no inside skin left - I've noted this because the skin is annoying when I try to crush them. It may work for you too.
I n't gonnawatch this all the way through because it was dang eggshells, but girl, that looks friggin awesome.i'm making a dragon's head mount and I might use this for it's skin.very nicely done!
I started boiling eggs immediately upon seeing this 1st Video. I'm 65 and have Arthritis in both hands and didn't take me long to realize removing that Membrane this way wouldn't work for me. Poured most of the overnight soaking water off and added 1/2 cup bleach (enough to have all the shells covered) and sure enough less than an hour later problem solved. Not one sign of it anywhere on the shells. Put the shell fragments in a strainer and rinsed well then air dried. Perfect now to use as texture.
the shoe polish is a form of antiquing. I do it on bisque fired pottery, you can also use oil paint, you don't need any turps. The idea is it is worked into the recesses and then you wipe off the surplus. Acrylic paint would not wipe off the raised surface at all well.
Thank you for letting us know how to peel the inner skin out of the eggshell, I wouldn't have thought to do that - DUH! Lol, now I will have to try this on my channel...
i boil egg shells in water for about a minute and let it cool. The membrane get cooked and becomes slightly rubbery, staying in one piece when peeled away. You can carefully remove (from each half of cracked eggshell) in one piece. i'm using this technique for a diorama -thanks! You should check out weathering techniques modelers use (especially armor modelers). They're not often regarded as artist, but i'll leave that to each person, as to what they think about that. Anyway, you might find the way we use washes, shades and dry brushing, useful and can add to your own -because our medium, is also 3D with textures.
Hi Amy, sorry for my poor english language; first, thank's for sharing all your wonderfull techniques. To remove the membrane of eggs, try this technique, please; 2 parts water and 1 part vinegar, make the eggshells, whait one hour; you see the membrane it's puffed and it's pushed out and you can peeled very, very easily, depend of quantity, but in max. 5-10 minutes it's ready. More the quantity of vinegar it's big and more the time to peel it's short (attention: if you make 1 part vinegar and 1 part water, dont forget to supervise that after 15-20 minute, because it's possible to constate the eggshells was complety distroyed by the reaction of vinegar acid). Hope this method help you, it's very fast. Regards, Vall, Belgium
When I first saw this eggshell piece it reminded me of a famous artist in NYC Ross Bleckner if you google him and look at his Absolut Bleckner Ad you will see how similar this process looks to some of his paintings that he has done. I've always wondered how he did those series of paintings but his surface is flat hence the question below. Thanks for the video.
**BETTER TIP ON REMOVING MEMBRANE: When I break my eggs, I immediately put the shells into the sink and run water on them. I let them soak for a few minutes. Then I run hot water over them, break a little corner and the skin comes right out no problem.. No vinegar no salt just this simple. Hope this helps. (Feb.28/15)

I luv your eggshell on canvas work.

What a painstaking yet fruitful labor of love!! Beautiful, thanks for sharing!
I ran hot water inside the shells and it worked great! Just peeled right off! :) I am saving up the egg shells to do this project soon super excited! :D Thank you for sharing the egg shell technique!
Love the result! Great texture and very cool paint application!
Excellent! Great idea. Never thought about eggshells! Thanks.
You gave people to open up their thoughts !!!!
I loved it

That is exactly what I thought. It is perfect for a dragon scale look...🐣 Who would a thought.
I have been going thru all diff sites and you have more than anyone and so eaisy to follow. Keep them interesting and easy enough for everyone. Your great at this!
Love it!! Thank you for making the video and sharing the technique. Keep on making the videos. I'm a beginner. They are inspiring.
Very interesting! Going to try this out with my grandkids. We always have art days together. This will be a great project for all of us. Thank you 🌺

This is a great idea, too! Thanks! I'm having a lot of fun with using the eggshells for texture, but this part is definitely time consuming.

Wow wonderful texture and great creativity, kudos , love it
Love the sweet little angel voice in the background ~ very interesting painter, nice teaching style

I made all three techniques ..and I am very pleased with the result. Thank you very much for a wonderful idea and nice presentation.
How does the shoe polish stay on the canvas when you're done? Do you modpodge over the top of the whole painting?
nice technique Amy Pierce...i like your ideas, now i'm sure of how to chnge the texture of my paintings
Very pretty! Thanks for sharing this with us!
Really cool though labor intensive. I can see using this technique for pebbles on a beach, for dragon scales, for the fruit of various palm trees, for snake skin. So many possibilities with a little creative thinking. Thanks so much Amy!
Thank you Amy. A great way to get the depth look. I love creative thinking. Thanks for sharing.
Mike
Very cool... I'm looking for some new mediums to work with and I think I'm gonna have to give this a try.. Great work!
Adding texture with egg shells was great and very creative.
THIS IS SO COOL -- I can't WAIT to try it! LOVE YOUR TUTORIALS!
Very nice...I also liked it without any colour as in just with egg shells n layers of glue..looked soft n lovely
i am excited because have saved lots of egg shells and now have a good idea of what to do with them!
Thank you for sharing this technique. I learned something new that I will surely use in my artwork now and for years to come. Greatly appreciated!
LOVE IT! Thank you for sharing your talent!
You make great teaching videos Amy - very clearly explained and demonstrated (I having a teaching background). And I love the idea - will be using eggshells in an artwork when I have enough.

Great idea.....And in the same moment I love Eggs anyway.....
Amazing technique ! I'm blown away. Thanks so much for sharing with us !
My student's say this is AWESOME!!! Thank you!
this is a really cool idea and think I am going to have to start saving up some egg shells for this idea. thank you for sharing this video.
Very cool!! I have never used shoe polish for a wash like that, i will be buying some!
I have to add this to the video. I did a 6' X 6' wall art and the texture was ALL eggshells. And, every time I walk by it I rub my hand on it LOL. Thank you so much for the idea and now I have a TON of dried eggshells ready to use as texture :)
years ago I did an entire table top in eggshells. What a job! But it turned out beautiful.
Loved the design. Texture rules!
What a neat idea! Definitely something to mess around with. Thank you for the great tutorial.
STUNNING!!! Could i substitute the shoe polish for paint? If not, how long does the shoe polish take to dry so i can apply varnish ...?
I am actually collecting egg shells now because of your video. ;) Decided to make a big version, 80x80 cm. :)
I put shells in bowl of water microwaved for 2 mins. Remioved shells let cool membrane peels right out . Also filled a few medicine bottles with food color and dyed eggs. When hard boiling eggs poke pin hole in end membrane peels off easy and eggs easy to peel

Visiting an artist friend over the holidays who shared your egg shell texture technique. Going to try it.
I n't gonnawatch this all the way through because it was dang eggshells, but girl, that looks friggin awesome.i'm making a dragon's head mount and I might use this for it's skin.very nicely done!
Wow! I really loved it! Awesome texture.
Loved it. I think the advantage of shoe polish is the oil in the polish does not allow the color to dry as fast allowing you to really work with it.
Love, Love, this. I have watched this video several times. I'm going to try this. Have the egg shells save up..
hi ya, i've always wanted to express myself artistically putting brush to canvas, youve opened my mind to all sorts of creativity, so thanks :))

Love love love it! I will definitely watch your other videos ! Thank you
Love this technique! Please continue.
I really like this piece. I do acrylic pours, and i might do this texture, then an acrylic pour on top of this texture.
Thank you for letting us know how to peel the inner skin out of the eggshell, I wouldn't have thought to do that - DUH! Lol, now I will have to try this on my channel...
Cool art! Please make more videos out of texture. Great job! 👍🏼
I loved your technique & your resourcefulness!
Thank you so much for this idea. 😍 I will make this as gift for my Dad's birthday next month. Greetings from Berlin/Germany. 🍀
Very cool! Love this idea! Well done...
Wonderful art. I gave you a thumbs up
Hi Amy,
Love your art! What other product could one use besides shoe polish in your technique using eggshells?
Beautiful! Love the texture.
Love it. I can't wait to try it and I WILL!!! Thank you for sharing.

Wowzers that was super cool!
this is awesome! Thanks and I'm going to try to make one like yours for my bedroom :)
I have the perfect name for your textured red board. Dragon Skin! That's what it looked like to me. Very cool!
I was thinking Dragon Skin too! Great minds!
why not crocodile, they really exist :)
Dragons exist too! >:-(
Yes it does
@@ElenaZoro Dang right they do!
That came out really nice...Thank you for sharing .
Like the method you used for making such a cool texture...hoping more from you

It's a great looking piece of art you created, love the smoldering colours and sheen. But what do you do with it, pardon my ignorance.
Stunning result! Thanks for the ideas
Thumbs up!!! You are so creative.
Mind Blown.. Thanks for teaching me.. :) 1000 Thumbs up
Neat & Clever & Beautifull!!! Simply Put.....
I love this so much! I was wondering what shoe polish you used & what type you would recommend to use?
It looks so cool! Thx for sharing!
