Dude there are more factors in this then you think, it's not just that the running these on older games and some of the next gen games to get a feel I see how the stock tech works, I personally like alien ware and I think that them entering the console market is a good thing but here are the points that I'm going to make 1 we don't know the motherboard yet and how the power phaze works the gpu (gtx 860m = laptop power)is hard wired to the the board, 2 everything is upgradeable which is a plus,except for the board and gpu :'( 3 their running everything and all the games at around the same level of the current gen consoles because they are competing.... They are calling it a pc/console for a reason. 4.as a ps4 cost $150 less and this comparison show the alpha only winning one of 4 ( Tomb Raider Laura's eyes look weird on the ps4 ) games for this gen, and turning features off so the game runs smooth is tell tell that the stock hardware isn't handling the games properly. The alpha needs to stick to its pros more Upgradeable hardware mostly, Hopefully upgradable OS, Show backwards compatibility, The ability to play PC games properly not console ports, games like EvE,wow,lol,civ etc. Also pc can't win,smart phones,tablets,and console still exist.

Sammy D In Tomb Raider it doesn't use TressFX (while the PS4 does) and it Watch Dogs it plays some settings on Medium, no AO or AA (while the PS4 runs on overall High settings with MHBAO and SMAA). It's true that its 900p on the PS4, but the overall image quality is better.

That's mostly console gamers, they demand insane graphics for some reason, PC gamers already get the best graphics so we tend to not give a shit, but our biggest games have outdated graphics, like Counter Strike, World of Warcraft and League of Legends, which goes to show PC gamers care about gameplay over graphics.
PS4 has slightly better graphics, yes. But can it take my 500+ games Steam library to my livingroom? No. This is the major difference here, and the key factor when people are deciding whether or not to buy it. It's for introducing console players to the market aswell without having to set things up themselves, it's simplicity, you plug it in and go that's what a console does. If you don't want it, don't buy it, no need to hate.
It play both Tomb Raider and Watch Dogs on lower graphical settings than the PS4, yet it gets the same frame rate. Not only that the PS4 is better as far as performance goes, but it's also $150 cheaper and had exclusives. Do not buy this, people. If you want Titanfall, get a PC.
Tomb Raider version for PS4 was enhanced, Watch Dogs on PC was held back by Ubisoft on purpose plus in this comparison they lowered the settings to keep it at 50-60fps. They could of easily set it to max and even put E3 2012 graphics in it. Also note the PS4 version is 900p and 30fps. Also Alienware Alpha is a PC so it will have access to the thousands of games available for PC.

+Rotted Rabbit2 we know what GPU the alpha has...an 860m or a 960 desktop class GPU depending on the config. And no, 4GB doesn't always get the job done, but the graphics look about twice as good on the alpha compared to a similarly priced PS4 or XBOX ONE.

When I was building my pc I put in just one of my 2 4gb ram sticks and it couldnt launch fallout 4@1080, 780p only menu and 480p to launch, with minimum range, and it still randomly paused for 5-10 mins alot. TW3 couldnt run and GTA V would change between 25 and 5 fps every few seconds(even though rockstar said it could run w/ 4gb). and That Cpu wouldnt be able to emulate most games @full speed. minimum is 2.4 QUAD CORE and this is dual core, and some games nowadays require Quad core. and I heard theres been a few driver issues aswell. This thing has the best Performance/Price ratio by Alienware (Not Saying its good or anything) but it doesnt even have the fancy alienware look the fanboys say the $1000 dollar difference is worth(Guess the price is why. TH-cam makes for a horrible comparison. Too much video compression and the ~60FPS the Alienware is achieving is completely lost since the video is at 29.97. Anyway, I think this generation is still really close. If I didn't own a PC already, I'd be satisfied with a PS4 or X-Bone. I'd miss Starcraft 2, Steam sales, and my "normal" web browser, though.
Out of cheapness, I'm willing to compromise on having a console for a multi-year life cycle of fully compatible games. I kind of see that as the point of consoles.

And yes, you can game on a couch. You can even connect more than 1 with a controller. 5. You don't need to upgrade PCs every year. If you get really crap parts then yeah you do. But would you rather upgrade 1 part in a PC, or have to buy an entirely new console? 6. Pc has exclusives too. And not all of them are indie games. 7. Try to mod on consoles. There is one thing that this video shows that's not completely obvious. The Alpha is $550 vs PS4 which is $400. Now, there's a $150 difference, it sounds like a lot but it's a heck of a lot less than the difference between a gaming PC back when the PS3/360 came out that compared in performance. PCs are getting cheaper. Also, companies like Alienware that sell pre-built ones don't lose money on each unit sold. Furthermore, I'm sure you can build a similarly spec'd PC like the Alpha for another $50 cheaper if you shave off the Alienware name. I own a PS4 and a gaming rig and use them equally as much. Both have their advantages and disadvantages.

Stuff like Dota, or Star Citizen. People habe wanted DayZ on consoles for so long, but its so broken on PC, imagine what it'll be like on consoles. And remember, all games were made on PC (or mac but you get my point), so at one time all games were PC Exclusives.
i play games to have fun i build pcs because they a fun for me to build, i like some of the exclusives on the consoles thats why i bought the ps4 and wii u. i have never bought an off the shelf pc so don't really know much about their strengths or weaknesses.
Wish they would update it to at least a 2Tflop GPU, so that it would have some buffer room against the consoles for the next few years of games that will get better tuned for them.
FATALJAY I want one, but what puts me off is the U,K, prices. Its going to be massively over priced in the united kingdom. Probably £1000 for the top spec version. might as well build a p,c, if you gonna spend that kind of cash. If they want this to compete with console, (which game wise it easily does), then they must match the prices of the consoles. I'm not saying that you can't compare the PC version of Tomb Raider to the PS4 version, 'cause you can; they're both games/visual media. But the fact that the console versions have a slightly different artstyle ('Definitive Edition'... you get it), prevents you from showing of the technical differences between the two machines. Still nice that we have these kind of videos! :)

I'd think maybe you could get something around a similar price with the benefit of being able to upgrade the GPU later on, but for something that is closer to plug-and-play (so people intrested in PC gaming don't have to worry about either building or being grossly over-charged), the Alpha is fairly good.

Now come to 2007 gta 4 which is better in ps3 than pc and even gta5 is also good in ps3 know think that what potential ps4 have.
People will claim they "care about gameplay not framerate", but then in the same breath complain about how weak the XB1 is in comparison to the PS4. One good thing about the pretty weak hardware in both XB1 & PS4, is that someone upgrading a PC bought in past few years could pick up a £105 graphics card like the 750ti and comfortably play most console ports going forward at the same or better settings. You'd lose out on some exclusives, but gain others (same story for any console you'd pick).
People seem to forget that the consoles play on medium at 1080p. Xbox plays on 900p and in some games even 720p. And with no AA. This makes the pc have better graphics. And u will be able to but the graphics on high or maybe even ultra if your frames are good. And the thing that makes the alpha more expensive then the ps4 and xboxone. Is that u can do the thinks u could do on a normal pc. Like use the internet download stuff. And u have steam and origins where u almost every time have sales on games. I think the hair on Lara Croft is more detailed on the console at 0:45, and try freeze the clip at 0:55; here the knee is smoother on the console. The same comes to the clip from Watchdogs; You can see at the beginning of the clip that our main characters beard is more detailed on the consoles.
That's because the current-gen consoles have the definitive edition of tomb raider (The new version for the current gen consoles that has been upgraded graphicly), while the PC shares the old version with the XB360 and PS3. In Watch Dogs case Ubisoft downgraded the graphics on PC. (Don't ask me why, all I know is that Ubisoft hates PC.)
I really do not see the point in these comparisons. People who like whatever console (Alpha, PC, PS4, Xbox One, WiiU, portables, or even last gen or originals) do not buy a system based on graphics but on games on the systems and the fun that can be had playing them. If recent inidie hits and minecraft has taught us anything it has taught us that!
Random thoughts on this... 1. Lara's face and emotions were absolutely RUINED in the new version. The original on PC stands as the best version before that travesty. That also makes the first two games completely different and shouldn't be compared. 2. Isn't Titanfall on XBox one only displayed in some weird variant of 900p? It's certainly not 1080p that's for sure. So why then is your comparison putting more stress on the Alpha than on it's challenger? Even without the FPS being captured on the consoles, which is a massive and noob mistake for one of these videos, I'm fairly sure Titanfall on Xbox One is not hitting 60FPS or is locked at 30. 3. Watchdogs? Really? Both look terrible. You're comparing what graphics look toned down on a game that is best known for being massively toned down. Brilliant. How about you enable the E3 2012 effects on the Alpha and we can call this right now? 4. The LOTR game. Are you sure they use Tessellation on the PS4 version? Look at this forehead at 4:14. Also look at his abs. This is not the same level of quality or technology at play here. If it does have it, it's a toned down console version. Even with that the Alpha stays above 30fps while I'm sure the PS4 is locked on it. I couldn't tell you for sure, since again, you opted not to show us console FPS rates. Another poor comparison. This is a face palm worthy waste of a good chance to show something of substance, but it did let me know about the alpha, which I wasn't aware of. So, there's that.

The graphic quality is higher on the Alienware which is the cause for the 60 fps or lower, its basically a budget gaming PC and to be honest for $550 its not bad but building your own will certainly be better, another thing you have to understand is that its Alienware, Alienware is nothing but overpriced crap, all PC gamers know this, its really bad. "Where the best exclusives are" That is completely opinion based, consoles don't have the best exclusives nor does the PC, personally i would take PC exclusives over console exclusives because they tend to be much more popular, longer lasting and just overall better games such as WoW, League of Legends and several other titles.
Sammy D the graphical quality might be higher but not to the extent that it makes the console versions look bad. You'd have to really look hard to see a difference. To me nothing on PC can touch Halo, Forza MS, Forza Horizon, Gears of War, Uncharted, God of War, Mario, Zelda, SSB.. there isn't even a baseball game on pc atm and a lot of popular multiplatform games make their way to pc much much later.. GTA 5 is a good example. Destiny isn't even available on PC.. even though I think the game is dogshit a lot of people think it's good. I built a gaming pc 4 years ago for around $1200 and it can't run current games at 1080p/60fps.
Why not buy a $600 pc you can customize when its specs are outdated? You could also use it to do much more than gaming, like pirating movies and watching porn! I'm not against consoles, just against the Alpha which brings fuck all to the gaming community.

It seems like they might have some of the texture settings on the Alpha version of the games turned down because there seems to be more detail in the PS4 version of Tomb Raider.

PC is not healthy. I would sacrifice unneeded junk and clutter of power for comfort and good 1080p 30-60fps any day. You sit and slouch over a computer with your eyes closer to the screen than the TV(ruining your eyes). You constantly buy expensive upgrades for your computer so it doesn't become obsolete, just so you can sit in a chair all night (ruining your back ) looking at a small 14-27'inch screen (ruining your eyes). Were as I just buy a system, pop in a disc and not have to worry about if my Graphic card is right and all that other bullshit, just pick a difficulty and play. I have a wide variety of people to play with online ( more girls on console than PC). I could play on TV's over 2x the size of that shit and lay on a sofa or bed playing a game. I could bring my friends and bitches over to play the game with me (it's all fun and games). At night I could switch over to some Netflix, Hulu Plus or some youtube and chill with my friends or Girlfriend and watch comfortably rather than crowding over a small as screen to watch it.
Steamboxes (like the one shown on the vid) are MEANT to be used on the couch. Not sure if you were referring to that or normal PCs. Anyway ALL SCREENS ruin eyes (from phones to big screens). They're unnatural and force you to blink less. If you're working or leisure / playing is recommend to take breaks often or go outside.

When my laptop first came out 2 years ago, I could run games but in this time my laptop is dying. So I don't see why ps4 and xbox one can last over 2 years.

Is really over priced, its the fact that consoles are under priced. Sony and Microsoft balance this out with the money they make on games and paid subscription. Buying a cheap gaming computer easily beats the other consoles in value, because there is no psn or xbox live subscription.
Whats the point, when you can get a tone of free games off steam. If you looking at over all price, buying the alpha is much better. Im mainly a console player, but latley ive been playing a bunch of games on my the same laptop I use for school work. There are a tone of great free games like world of tanks that I can only play on the lowest settings. My other games include the total war series frome rome1 to shogun 2, which I picked up for 10 dollars each w/ steam deals. There are countless free games that I wish to play but cant because my computer dose not have the power to run them. With the amazing steam deals and free online play with greater variety. $550 is a better deal than any console could put out. If alienware dose good advertising and marketing, they have a game breaker.
Arhum Ahmad i accept at least 45 on a good console/pc but when i comes down to graphics, depends on what game. some games have very very impressive graphics/ artwork that need fast frame rates to be worth it though so i see what your saying. Destiny is a good example
I'm not very up to speed with pc specs and such but I am seriously considering one of these Alienware's. Would the intel core i3 processor with 8gb of storage be sufficient space or should I be getting the more expensive model of the i5 or i7. Also, any idea if they have external storage?
I'd go with the i5 model. The i7 is just ridiculous, theres no reason for it, not for that price tag. And it has 4 USB slots, so you could attach external storage if you wanted to.
What this says to me is, "We were afraid a console wouldn't sell, so we waited to watch PS4/Xbox One." And that's the blunder. This would have sold well if it came out 8 mos to a year ahead of the new consoles, or even within a few months of their launches. Now people are settling in and recruiting their friends. With this being late to the starting gate and more expensive than Xbox One or PS4, the console market is still a two horse race.
You guys realize that the alienware is a PC. That means you can edit the INI files to get better performance even if you turn the graphics up. You also can get mods for anything with the steam workshop, which will make your experiences with games far better and more personalized than a ps4 or Xbox one.
The thing with consoles is the hardware basically never changes and that gives time for developers to get to know the in's and outs of the system but then there's PC where there's a whole spectrum of hardware you have to optimize for see the problem.
So long as my games can work on it without needing to be connected to the Internet, the Alpha might be the last gaming console I buy. Even the $550 priced model is looking rather impressive compared to the PS4 and X1. I KNEW there was a reason I waited to go next-gen!
When you look close in Shadow of Morder, the movement of characters seems better, for the Alienware Alpha. The PS4 uses less resolution to its advantage, and there seems to be a nice filter effect, that gives it an aesthetic look.
It's funny how these games media folks complain about the constant arguing about resolutions and frame rate (which seems to be the overall theme of this generation's console war) and yet they turn around and post a frame rate comparison video. I'm not naive I know why they do it, the comparison catches people's attention (often hate) which leads to more views and comments which leads to more ad revenue, what irritates me however is that they take the the moral high ground and make sure to let you know that they only play games for the gameplay and are ashamed of the petty arguments in the comments when they themselves sparked the arguments in the first place. I know these "journalists" have become so jaded towards AAA games that pretentious indie titles are the only thing that seems to spark an emotion in these hipsters, but I still care and I'm sick and tired of peoples conversations being dominated by frame rates and resolutions instead of the games themselves.

Alpha looks good, but this won't sway gamers who already own a PC and it's price might deter gamers who are a little more frugal in the price department. It's got a lot going for it so let's see where it goes.
Would have been nice if there were some 1080p60 TH-cam comparisons so I could actually see the framerate differences. Watch_Dogs for instance - dips down to 30 frames but you can't tell on a ... 30 fps TH-cam video. Hard to tell how much it and PS4 differ.
They really should have done the comparisons differently. While it's nice seeing how it runs on their settings for decent performance, they should have tried running the games at console settings; the thing is supposed to somewhat compete with consoles after all, so they should have shown how it runs games at settings similar to those the consoles run.
IMO I don't see THAT big difference to justify the 150$ difference between the AW and the PS4/Xbox ONE. Yes it's a PC and that's cool, but it won't have neither Uncharted, Halo or any of the consoles' exclusive titles. Consoles are far better for me in terms of price/quality.

Everybody has missed the whole point. Consoles have always offered games that only that platform can play, like Gran Turismo for Playstation and Halo for Xbox. If you don't want to play these games, and are happy with what PC offers, then you could just use the PC you have, or spend much more money to buy one. Simple hey!!!

1 we don't know the motherboard yet and how the power phaze works the gpu (gtx 860m = laptop power)is hard wired to the the board,
2 everything is upgradeable which is a plus,except for the board and gpu :'(
3 their running everything and all the games at around the same level of the current gen consoles because they are competing.... They are calling it a pc/console for a reason.
4.as a ps4 cost $150 less and this comparison show the alpha only winning one of 4 ( Tomb Raider Laura's eyes look weird on the ps4 ) games for this gen, and turning features off so the game runs smooth is tell tell that the stock hardware isn't handling the games properly.

Tomb Raider version for PS4 was enhanced, Watch Dogs on PC was held back by Ubisoft on purpose plus in this comparison they lowered the settings to keep it at 50-60fps. They could of easily set it to max and even put E3 2012 graphics in it. Also note the PS4 version is 900p and 30fps. Also Alienware Alpha is a PC so it will have access to the thousands of games available for PC.
All of these comments talking about how the PS4 won when CLEARLY the Alpha wins. The GPU in the Alpha is better than the PS4 and Xbox One.

When I was building my pc I put in just one of my 2 4gb ram sticks and it couldnt launch fallout 4@1080, 780p only menu and 480p to launch, with minimum range, and it still randomly paused for 5-10 mins alot. TH-cam makes for a horrible comparison. Too much video compression and the ~60FPS the Alienware is achieving is completely lost since the video is at 29.97. Anyway, I think this generation is still really close. If I didn't own a PC already, I'd be satisfied with a PS4 or X-Bone. I'd miss Starcraft 2, Steam sales, and my "normal" web browser, though.
Out of cheapness, I'm willing to compromise on having a console for a multi-year life cycle of fully compatible games. I kind of see that as the point of consoles.
Ok lemme clear some things up...
1. You do not need a $10,000 to game 4k.
2. Console fanboys are always arguing about who's graphics are better, then screaming that they don't matter. Then cream themselves when a remastered game comes out.
3. Yes, gameplay is important. Yes, graphics is important. I mean you wouldn't want something like The Last of Us to have the graphics of a N64 would you?
4. For those of you saying you want to game with a controller, you can do that on PC. And yes, you can game on a couch. You can even connect more than 1 with a controller.
5. You don't need to upgrade PCs every year. If you get really crap parts then yeah you do. But would you rather upgrade 1 part in a PC, or have to buy an entirely new console?
6. Pc has exclusives too. And not all of them are indie games.
7. Try to mod on consoles.

There is one thing that this video shows that's not completely obvious. The Alpha is $550 vs PS4 which is $400. Now, there's a $150 difference, it sounds like a lot but it's a heck of a lot less than the difference between a gaming PC back when the PS3/360 came out that compared in performance. PCs are getting cheaper. Also, companies like Alienware that sell pre-built ones don't lose money on each unit sold. Furthermore, I'm sure you can build a similarly spec'd PC like the Alpha for another $50 cheaper if you shave off the Alienware name.
I own a PS4 and a gaming rig and use them equally as much. Both have their advantages and disadvantages.

Pc has a crapton on pc exclusives that console users constantly want ported over. Stuff like Dota, or Star Citizen. People habe wanted DayZ on consoles for so long, but its so broken on PC, imagine what it'll be like on consoles.
And remember, all games were made on PC (or mac but you get my point), so at one time all games were PC Exclusives.
i play games to have fun i build pcs because they a fun for me to build, i like some of the exclusives on the consoles thats why i bought the ps4 and wii u. i have never bought an off the shelf pc so don't really know much about their strengths or weaknesses.
Wish they would update it to at least a 2Tflop GPU, so that it would have some buffer room against the consoles for the next few years of games that will get better tuned for them.

P,C, gaming is better than console gaming, and if this machine worked well (base model) and the price was the same as consoles i would be interested.
I'm not saying that you can't compare the PC version of Tomb Raider to the PS4 version, 'cause you can; they're both games/visual media. But the fact that the console versions have a slightly different artstyle ('Definitive Edition'... you get it), prevents you from showing of the technical differences between the two machines.

People will claim they "care about gameplay not framerate", but then in the same breath complain about how weak the XB1 is in comparison to the PS4.
One good thing about the pretty weak hardware in both XB1 & PS4, is that someone upgrading a PC bought in past few years could pick up a £105 graphics card like the 750ti and comfortably play most console ports going forward at the same or better settings. You'd lose out on some exclusives, but gain others (same story for any console you'd pick).
People seem to forget that the consoles play on medium at 1080p.
Xbox plays on 900p and in some games even 720p.
And with no AA.
This makes the pc have better graphics.
And u will be able to but the graphics on high or maybe even ultra if your frames are good.
And the thing that makes the alpha more expensive then the ps4 and xboxone.

I think the hair on Lara Croft is more detailed on the console at 0:45, and try freeze the clip at 0:55; here the knee is smoother on the console. The same comes to the clip from Watchdogs; You can see at the beginning of the clip that our main characters beard is more detailed on the consoles.
In Tomb Raider that is the TressFX technology from AMD, which the Alpha can't run very well as it has an nVidia GPU.
That's because the current-gen consoles have the definitive edition of tomb raider (The new version for the current gen consoles that has been upgraded graphicly), while the PC shares the old version with the XB360 and PS3. In Watch Dogs case Ubisoft downgraded the graphics on PC. (Don't ask me why, all I know is that Ubisoft hates PC.)

I really do not see the point in these comparisons. People who like whatever console (Alpha, PC, PS4, Xbox One, WiiU, portables, or even last gen or originals) do not buy a system based on graphics but on games on the systems and the fun that can be had playing them. If recent inidie hits and minecraft has taught us anything it has taught us that!
Random thoughts on this...
1. Lara's face and emotions were absolutely RUINED in the new version. The original on PC stands as the best version before that travesty. That also makes the first two games completely different and shouldn't be compared.
2. Isn't Titanfall on XBox one only displayed in some weird variant of 900p? It's certainly not 1080p that's for sure. So why then is your comparison putting more stress on the Alpha than on it's challenger? Even without the FPS being captured on the consoles, which is a massive and noob mistake for one of these videos, I'm fairly sure Titanfall on Xbox One is not hitting 60FPS or is locked at 30.
3. Watchdogs? Really? Both look terrible. You're comparing what graphics look toned down on a game that is best known for being massively toned down. Brilliant. How about you enable the E3 2012 effects on the Alpha and we can call this right now?
4. The LOTR game. Are you sure they use Tessellation on the PS4 version? Look at this forehead at 4:14. Also look at his abs. This is not the same level of quality or technology at play here. If it does have it, it's a toned down console version. Even with that the Alpha stays above 30fps while I'm sure the PS4 is locked on it. I couldn't tell you for sure, since again, you opted not to show us console FPS rates. Another poor comparison.
This is a face palm worthy waste of a good chance to show something of substance, but it did let me know about the alpha, which I wasn't aware of. So, there's that.

The graphic quality is higher on the Alienware which is the cause for the 60 fps or lower, its basically a budget gaming PC and to be honest for $550 its not bad but building your own will certainly be better, another thing you have to understand is that its Alienware, Alienware is nothing but overpriced crap, all PC gamers know this, its really bad.

That is completely opinion based, consoles don't have the best exclusives nor does the PC, personally i would take PC exclusives over console exclusives because they tend to be much more popular, longer lasting and just overall better games such as WoW, League of Legends and several other titles.
Sammy D the graphical quality might be higher but not to the extent that it makes the console versions look bad. You'd have to really look hard to see a difference. To me nothing on PC can touch Halo, Forza MS, Forza Horizon, Gears of War, Uncharted, God of War, Mario, Zelda, SSB.. there isn't even a baseball game on pc atm and a lot of popular multiplatform games make their way to pc much much later.. GTA 5 is a good example. Destiny isn't even available on PC.. even though I think the game is dogshit a lot of people think it's good. I built a gaming pc 4 years ago for around $1200 and it can't run current games at 1080p/60fps.

It seems like they might have some of the texture settings on the Alpha version of the games turned down because there seems to be more detail in the PS4 version of Tomb Raider.

You pay at least $50 - $60 a year for online multiplayer, on the PS4 and Xbox One. By that logic, the Alienware Alpha, in a couple of years, will pay for itself.
The alpha has more brightness into it
no brightness but running at native 1080p, while PS4 and xbox in some games renders at lower resolution and uses upscaling to get to 1080p (so it appear fuzzier).

PC is not healthy. I would sacrifice unneeded junk and clutter of power for comfort and good 1080p 30-60fps any day. You sit and slouch over a computer with your eyes closer to the screen than the TV(ruining your eyes). You constantly buy expensive upgrades for your computer so it doesn't become obsolete, just so you can sit in a chair all night (ruining your back ) looking at a small 14-27'inch screen (ruining your eyes). Were as I just buy a system, pop in a disc and not have to worry about if my Graphic card is right and all that other bullshit, just pick a difficulty and play. I have a wide variety of people to play with online ( more girls on console than PC). I could play on TV's over 2x the size of that shit and lay on a sofa or bed playing a game. I could bring my friends and bitches over to play the game with me (it's all fun and games). At night I could switch over to some Netflix, Hulu Plus or some youtube and chill with my friends or Girlfriend and watch comfortably rather than crowding over a small as screen to watch it.

Is really over priced, its the fact that consoles are under priced. Sony and Microsoft balance this out with the money they make on games and paid subscription. Buying a cheap gaming computer easily beats the other consoles in value, because there is no psn or xbox live subscription.

Whats the point, when you can get a tone of free games off steam. If you looking at over all price, buying the alpha is much better. Im mainly a console player, but latley ive been playing a bunch of games on my the same laptop I use for school work. There are a tone of great free games like world of tanks that I can only play on the lowest settings. My other games include the total war series frome rome1 to shogun 2, which I picked up for 10 dollars each w/ steam deals. There are countless free games that I wish to play but cant because my computer dose not have the power to run them. With the amazing steam deals and free online play with greater variety. $550 is a better deal than any console could put out. If alienware dose good advertising and marketing, they have a game breaker.

I'm not very up to speed with pc specs and such but I am seriously considering one of these Alienware's. Would the intel core i3 processor with 8gb of storage be sufficient space or should I be getting the more expensive model of the i5 or i7. Also, any idea if they have external storage?
I'd go with the i5 model. The i7 is just ridiculous, theres no reason for it, not for that price tag. And it has 4 USB slots, so you could attach external storage if you wanted to.

What this says to me is, "We were afraid a console wouldn't sell, so we waited to watch PS4/Xbox One."
And that's the blunder. This would have sold well if it came out 8 mos to a year ahead of the new consoles, or even within a few months of their launches. Now people are settling in and recruiting their friends.
With this being late to the starting gate and more expensive than Xbox One or PS4, the console market is still a two horse race.
You guys realize that the alienware is a PC. That means you can edit the INI files to get better performance even if you turn the graphics up. You also can get mods for anything with the steam workshop, which will make your experiences with games far better and more personalized than a ps4 or Xbox one.
The thing with consoles is the hardware basically never changes and that gives time for developers to get to know the in's and outs of the system but then there's PC where there's a whole spectrum of hardware you have to optimize for see the problem.

When you look close in Shadow of Morder, the movement of characters seems better, for the Alienware Alpha. The PS4 uses less resolution to its advantage, and there seems to be a nice filter effect, that gives it an aesthetic look.

It's funny how these games media folks complain about the constant arguing about resolutions and frame rate (which seems to be the overall theme of this generation's console war) and yet they turn around and post a frame rate comparison video. I'm not naive I know why they do it, the comparison catches people's attention (often hate) which leads to more views and comments which leads to more ad revenue, what irritates me however is that they take the the moral high ground and make sure to let you know that they only play games for the gameplay and are ashamed of the petty arguments in the comments when they themselves sparked the arguments in the first place. I know these "journalists" have become so jaded towards AAA games that pretentious indie titles are the only thing that seems to spark an emotion in these hipsters, but I still care and I'm sick and tired of peoples conversations being dominated by frame rates and resolutions instead of the games themselves.

Would have been nice if there were some 1080p60 TH-cam comparisons so I could actually see the framerate differences. Watch_Dogs for instance - dips down to 30 frames but you can't tell on a ... 30 fps TH-cam video. Hard to tell how much it and PS4 differ.

They really should have done the comparisons differently. While it's nice seeing how it runs on their settings for decent performance, they should have tried running the games at console settings; the thing is supposed to somewhat compete with consoles after all, so they should have shown how it runs games at settings similar to those the consoles run.
