I really enjoyed Fae Farm. I found it very relaxing and I loved trying to get all the flowers and trees so I could get different outfits and wings. Also I am loving Zelda echoes of wisdom. I recommend both games.
Another great episode Josh! My first harvest moon game (and also the game that got me into gaming as a kid) was Save the Homeland on Playstation! It still holds a special place in my heart ❤️
Oh man, definitely agree with you on Dreamland Farm. Very rough game, but also I think the devs were probably learning how to make a farming game and that's why it's so bare bones. They did make some bad control choices that you touched upon like "cancelling" not consistently being the B button and honestly I can tell you that your 30 minutes of game time was enough to understand the entire game. Anything further was the same thing, just with reskinned resources (new ore, new trees after a tool upgrade) and quest turn in requirements using those resources until you ran out of quests to do.
I started gaming at very young age of 5 when Super Nintendo console was released in UK in the early 1990s, so yeah when I see the younger generations saying "why does this game looks like it's made in 2000?" I'd laugh because the older graphic vibe doesn't bother me, because I also grew up with gaming in the 90s, it's very nostalgia for me as well when I see newer games with 90s vibes, like Field of Mistria for example. I don't really care much for the cartoony graphic as long as there's no lags and the story and gameplay are good, and the graphic is fitting for the plot story. I can understand the concerns about Tales of the Shire, I don't feel like it's the kind of game where there's a lot of replayability. I think most of the contents will be from the story plot, and then decoration, people will create videos of different decoration ideas for TotS, much like Animal Crossing New Horizon and Disney Dreamlight Valley, when the content creators have finished the story or got to the end of the story and waiting for new content to drop in, then they just go and focus on decorating to make contents with so I feel like TotS probably will be the same. Also there is book in TotS of all achievement, like, find all fish types, find all forgeable etc, so that may will extend the gameplay hours longer if u're a completionist. I would say TotS maybe will have 30-50 hours to complete it overall, then when u're in decorating mood, then can always revisit it, if that make sense. Thank you for showing gameplay of Zelda Echoes of Wisdom. I have tried playing the first few Zelda games on Switch on the Super Nintendo games pass, and I couldn't get into it at all, but the graphic looks cute and puzzle and adventuring sounds like fun, and u said the map is massive so there's tons of exploring which I love so I feel like I'm probably sold on that, but I hate the pricing system on Switch, £60 for all core Nintendo games, so expensive so that does put me off. I haven't buy a £60 games in years and I don't plan to doing that anytime soon. Would u say that I'd need to play the older Zelda games to understand Echoes of Wisdom or u can play it without needing the backward games lore? Great solo podcast once again Josh, thank you! Have a great weekend!
Just a tip haha instead of saying “available on PS5, XBOX Series…” every time you could say “available on all modern (or current gen) consoles” (and if needed, “except switch”)
Level-5 have been delaying all their games for years now, not just Fantasy Life, which people speculate is due to mismanagement rather than a hint that they're waiting for a new console. Even their showcase was delayed lol. Delaying a game to polish it is good, but it's not usually a good sign when a game needs to be delayed for years and years. There were also AI generated backgrounds for one of their other titles, so idk. I'm kind of losing respect for them, and I'm keeping my expectations low for anything they release.
I tried dreamland farm the other day and I agree. Also by the time you water 12 crops your energy is low and you need to go to bed. It’s very repetitive
Thanks for another episode, Josh! I saw Dreamland Farm and for the price considered it a good one to keep on my switch lite to play in small doses (while I commute to work), but after your explanation of the gameplay, I might hold off. I want to know how the button mechanics are not fully fleshed out for release. Having a consistent action assigned to buttons seems pretty important to me. So, I’m curious why a game like this and Sprout Valley don’t have buttons that make sense.
I’m really looking forward to finally playing FaeFarm. I played the demo this year and really enjoyed it especially the movement feel so I got the full game. Many of the criticisms don’t matter to me e.g. social stuff not being strong, I don’t mind as I just want to collect things and make things. I’m imagining I will play through the main story and then probably be done with it, and I’m more than happy with that.
Great video. I agree completely about Dreamland Farm. I was hoping for a simpler farming game, but it was just boring, slow, and annoying. That said, if memory serves me right there actually is some reasoning behind which button to push to exit menus - it's whichever button you pushed to open the menu. So if you pushed "Y" to open the menu, "Y" will close it. And so on. This is definitely annoying, since I'm used to using the "B" button for backing out of menus, but yeah... overall the game is just not good. I had to look up Garden of the Sea, since I hadn't heard of that one and am definitely interested. Turns out the Switch release got delayed until the 24th of this month, so I'll have to wait a few weeks. But that's okay. I'm really enjoying the new Zelda game atm, and with a few more upcoming releases have plenty to keep myself busy. Thanks for the recommendation though - I'll keep an eye out and nab Garden of the Sea when it finally drops!
I also started playing games at a really young age. I think I played AWL on the PS2 when I was 6-8 maybe? and I've loved Harvest Moon since. While things can be clunky, I don't mind the lack of qol stuff with older games really xD
I also started gaming when Harvest Moon 64 came out here and my sister and I are obsessed with this series and farming games aver since! I can understand people not getting the hype if they started with Stardew since it’s so much more adapted to our modern life, but I can’t help but return to my first loves with Harvest Moon games 🥹

It's like mobile games.

I’ve been playing a lot of coral island on ps5. I’m torn between marrying surya or Kenny 😭
