    • @CycloneCyd
      @CycloneCyd  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The fill hole is also the level hole. When the level in the 'box is correct you should just be able to discern oil on the threads of the hole. Any excess will drain back out from the fill hole.

    It might be a stupid question, but I will ask it anyway. What are the reasons for changing gearbox oil? What would happen if I didn’t had the oil changed?

    • @CycloneCyd
      @CycloneCyd  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      There are no such thing as a dumb question. Asking questions is how we learn.
      The oil degrades over time and with use. It's ability to lubricate, cool and protect (gears bearings seals) reduces.
      The manufacturer has determined an average lifetime of around 150k with no further action.
      Refreshing the oil occasionally can extend the box life massively

    • @JLyck
      @JLyck 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CycloneCyd I was wondering how a gear box with old oil behaved? You mention that it protects the gear bearing seal. How would an unlubricated seal behave in a car? Will I have difficulties shifting gears or something similar?Thanks.

    • @CycloneCyd
      @CycloneCyd  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@JLyck noise, difficult shifts, leaks, economy loss and eventually complete failure of some sort. My son's Polo suffered a seized box at just 96k miles having never had an oil change.
      Average 'life' being 150k means 1/3 to 1/2 of all boxes will suffer early life failure before this. If you do nothing, you might be lucky or you might be unlucky.There is no way to predict which.
      Changing the oil is not a guarantee of long life, but it does stack the odds in your favour instead of against you.
      Oil is cheap - a 'box rebuild is not.
