    • @Mateusz7821
      @Mateusz7821 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@khaaan_prod341 Honestly if you're struggling pull up the piano roll, use a piano, pick a random key to work in like D# minor (my favourite) and draw in some chords, starting with the first few root notes and then start adding notes on top by ear and same for the chord progression, move each note individually using your ears to how you want. Then start adding higher pitch melodies on top and add the bass notes below, or double bass notes, e.g. on C2 and C3, and mess around with the velocity of notes and randonize some stuff like, e.g. there may be some chords where you want them to sound cool and strum them, and some ones where a note comes in late. Obv if you know music theory a bit you can cook up faster and if you know it well and have relative pitch you can cook up instantly

    • @Mateusz7821
      @Mateusz7821 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@khaaan_prod341 and add some gross beat on it, reverse it in places, and add a gate to make it wobbly, and make the gross beat fx really quiet in the back so that the piano melody stands out more, it spices up the melody each time

  • @frankjager1647
    @frankjager1647 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    An even easier way to put notes in and then build chords is to just use the new scale option in Ableton. You take a note, and every other note in the scale ascending creates chords of varying complexity. Start with three notes, and you get a triad, four, and you get a seventh, then a ninth, an eleventh, a thirteenth, and so on.
    Also, if you find your music is sounding too congested, especially in the midrange, take your chords and ONLY use the third and the seventh. You don't actually need the root or the fifth, as they don't imply any tonality, and only serve as a base for your minor/major thirds to have a place of reference that explains to your ear what they are and why. This works very well when you have basslines/808s that tend to stick to the root note of each chord in your progression, and allows you to spread out your harmony among different instruments, which tends to make your music sound much more locked in with itself.

    Using your brain and voice to you're advantage while melody writing, instead of limiting yourself to playing the instruments you have available...Some extremely solid advice - I found myself trying to punch in a melody the other day over a beat on my piano, and I stopped myself after a while and just hummed some natural melodies. Then it was so much easier to translate that to piano roll or even playing on the keys.
