@@HackMusicTheory I always stayed far away from music theory vids because sometimes I feel like it messes with my creative side, the scales and everything, but you're right you dont know how to break the rules if you dont know them and the "producers are using music theory whether they think they are or not!" makes sense, I mainly make electronic music and hip hop, any full videos on Music Theory i should check?

This is literally the type of video I was looking for. Too many videos genralize music theory and are longer than necessary. This one is short, specific and detailed. You guys are the best🤟🏽🤟🏽
Absolute noob here, this is the first time I've seen a tutorial that doesn't assume I already have a background on any of this and tells me WHY some of these decisions are being made, even made me take a listen to some of my favorite melodies with a new outlook and renewed curiosity for this whole discipline. this video made all the bits and pieces I've been gathering here on youtube Fall into place. I'm sticking to this channel, I hope by the end of the year I can be creating music and have an idea of what I am doing!

One thing I really appreciate about theory is how good it is as a reflective too. It's really helpful for immersing yourself in the songwriting process, to ask why something you try works a mix of hands on and reflection just makes songwriting *feel* so much more immersive. Thank you so much for the video!
finally a melody tutorial that doesnt just show us how to enable ghost notes and show a prod. making a melody (idk how ppl find that very helpful, but it works i guess).. this the video been looking for, clear cut explanations great tut!!
I am not a trained songwriter at all, never knew anything about music theory and just watching/listening to your videos and reading your hack music theory booklet has helped me actually feel comfortable with getting that toe in the water! Thank you guys!

Nice! Set myself a half an hour timer and tried to produce a short audio snip by paying attention to your small producing videos (bass, melody, chord progression) and this 2/4/6 "rule". Half an hour and some minutes more a chorus is ready. Your quick guides are very helpful for easy producing. Thanks a lot!!!!
@@kanjikanta8270 doesn't matter if it's an 808 or a bassline...just tune your 808s you got in your drum kits... And then simply use them like a melody,keep in mind it should compliment your main melody of the track... Get some info about 808 slides too...that is super fun.. All the best ⚡
@@fukcg00gle95 808 is an analog drum kit, but in recent years its original sounds have been key for trap and rap music. now 808 is used to refer to the kickdrum being used as a thick bass, used with a regular thumpy kick

in all my time online researching music theory this has been THE BEST resource in applying it with real examples the last melody example made me smile when the strings came in because it paints such a beautiful landscape thank you guys for helping people for free like this, im a broke zoomer and rarely spend money, but your course is something i would consider if i wanted to get good at music theory

It’s an acquired taste and culture has something to do with it too. The 3rd and 7th are often used in melodies and 4ths are used a lot in Japanese music. It sounds odd when you’re not used to it.I’n personally a fan of the #4, such an epic interval.

This opens my mind up to learn more about music theory. Im an example of the song producer who has so many unfinished songs and doesnt see light for them at the end of a tunnel. I will learn more about music theory!

Hi folks, thanks for this presentation. This is the second one that I've been through and I'm really enjoying it. Although I have no formal music training, I do have a small music studio with a computer as one of the components. Playing around with music software provides and excellent way to understand theory and I like how you demonstrated the 7th as a way to take a line of musical thought in a different direction. I use similar software to program some instruments that I cannot play very well, as I'm primarily a guitarist. So keep up the good work! Cheers!

Great observation about the predictability of many so-called melodies! I found that using a 2 in the bass causes a ton of tension, which is great when you release it.

You guys really crack me up sometimes! I love your approach to teaching. Thanks! While I agree much song writing is boring, the interest is usually, in hits, made up in the quality of the production. I mean, a lot of contemporary pop melodies have one or two or three notes!!

This is great, but I wish I could hear the changes you're making to the composition as you're changing them, or right after. Thanks for the info though, I think people don't give enough creativity to their melodies lately, in general.
I appreciate all the time you two put into these videos. Though I haven't opened my DAW in several months, I'm starting to get the itch again. Over the past few years, I've come a long way as a beginner not even knowing the difference between a major and minor chord and now I'm into many different types of chords as well as fancy-pants modulations, which is where I find fantastic things happen. Like many people, I still need more work on the mixing and equalizing part before I start sharing too much, but it looks like maybe it'll all come together at the same time. :) Thanks again!

Even though the sonority of the chord is mostly dependent on the 3rd, i think the gravitational pull of 5 is stronger in terms of tension/rest than the 3 (in dorian at least) :D By the way, this is one of the best youtube channels about music theory out there, always good vibes, simple and to the point!

Very cool guys!....a nice lesson on how our brain/ears perceive melodies ..... the gravitational pull is key. Somehow, the 2-4-6 suggests a flirting dance around the inevitable harmonically dominant resolution; quiete similar to a decaying orbit. Thanks for the video.

It’s an acquired taste and culture has something to do with it too. The 3rd and 7th are often used in melodies and 4ths are used a lot in Japanese music. It sounds odd when you’re not used to it.I’n personally a fan of the #4, such an epic interval.

This opens my mind up to learn more about music theory. Im an example of the song producer who has so many unfinished songs and doesnt see light for them at the end of a tunnel. I will learn more about music theory!

Hi folks, thanks for this presentation. This is the second one that I've been through and I'm really enjoying it. Although I have no formal music training, I do have a small music studio with a computer as one of the components. Playing around with music software provides and excellent way to understand theory and I like how you demonstrated the 7th as a way to take a line of musical thought in a different direction. I use similar software to program some instruments that I cannot play very well, as I'm primarily a guitarist. So keep up the good work! Cheers!

Great observation about the predictability of many so-called melodies! I found that using a 2 in the bass causes a ton of tension, which is great when you release it.
This 246 rule is a gem, also the explanation about the 7th at the end was very helpful, thanks!

Very good lesson, cool that I subconsciously already do it lol, but good to understand why I do it
I appreciate all the time you two put into these videos. Though I haven't opened my DAW in several months, I'm starting to get the itch again. Over the past few years, I've come a long way as a beginner not even knowing the difference between a major and minor chord and now I'm into many different types of chords as well as fancy-pants modulations, which is where I find fantastic things happen. Like many people, I still need more work on the mixing and equalizing part before I start sharing too much, but it looks like maybe it'll all come together at the same time. :) Thanks again!

Even though the sonority of the chord is mostly dependent on the 3rd, i think the gravitational pull of 5 is stronger in terms of tension/rest than the 3 (in dorian at least) :D
