I am still using my original iPad Pro the 12.9", this is the upgrade that I have decided to finally replace it. However I have decided to go for the 11"
Nano texture 16gb of ram and 10 core CPU (I think) is only for the 1 & 2 TB models. I’m pretty excited for the new iPads a little bummed the second generation pencil, that I just bought less than a year ago, is not compatible with the new iPads.
8:46 yes I had the original 9.7 iPad Pro. It was so thin and fast. Then I went to the 10.5 iPad Pro, I thought that was huge. I had the 11” 2018, the 2020, and currently the M2. I am finally upgrading to the 13” as I finally think it’s light enough! ❤️ I can’t wait to drive to the Apple Store next week.
I still have an original 12.9" iPad Pro, it got my GF through covid when the libraries closed, and she also uses it for email and consuming media. It's still going great, as are both my 2018 and 2021 12.9" iPad Pros. Eventually, I'll have to upgrade at least one of these. I'm loving the new tandem OLED displays of these ones.
This version of the iPad Pro is pretty much the same price as a Mac Book Pro (when you add on all the glorious add ons (pencil/keyboard/glass etc). The iPad needs to be running on Mac OS before I can justify it being the complete replacement for my Mac.
I still have my M1 iPad Pro. Until today, I haven’t had the urge to replace it. I am going to get the 13 inch iPad Air. I don’t have a need or use the new iPad Pros. The new 13 inch iPad Air is fits my needs and any potential use I have. Now we need a bit more flexibility in the iPad OS and things would be rocking.
Yeah I bought the iPad Pro 12.9 just for the bigger screen … I don’t need all the available performance on my M2 iPad Pro. Before I bought the M2 last year November. I had the iPad Pro 2nd gen for over 6 years. And I assume I will have the M2 at least for 5 years. And who knows what is then available. I’m sure I will buy a tablet with the biggest screen again.
You're going to give up 120 HZ? I'm really not going to see any performance bump. Are you sure you're just getting sucked into a little bit of hype here. M1 iPad pros should be fine for years to come
I think you’re wrong with the new final cut and use an external drives that works on the M1 and M2 iPad Pro as well. It’s just in the final cut two software hardware.
Still driving my iPM 5, but it has 1911 battery cycles after 5 years of usage, battery life is 4-6 hrs when used intensely, max loading is now up to 72% only - now, most of the time, I use it plugged in, with a physical keyboard and mouse (Apple magic keyboard, Logitech Ultrathin Mouse) and a simple foldable stand. Waiting for the iPM 7, as you might have guessed... I am a die-hard Mini aficionado! All the new tablets are surely great and will bring lots of joy to their future users for sure - but for me, where I go, my iPM goes... sometimes tossed in to my backpack with a mouse and magic keyboard (the compact, simple one), sometimes just w/o anything but maybe a lightning cable to load it...
I have an iPad Pro 10.5” (2017), so have been waiting for this new iPad Pro to upgrade. I’ve ordered a 11” iPad Pro with 1TB with nano-texture glass, it’s bloody expensive but want to future proof it for another 6-7yrs. The 1TB also means the full 10-core CPU with 4 performance cores and 16GB Ram, which the 256GB / 512GB versions don’t have. However my biggest issue with any of the ‘M’ range of iPad is that they are still running iPadOS, surely these are powerful enough to run MasOS. I want dual boot so I can select either operating system to boot into. If I could run MacOS I’d buy the new keyboard case & pencil pro and my 14yr old MacBook Pro would become obsolete, I hardly use it so can’t justify buying a new MacBook but there are the odd things I miss on my iPad that I can do on my MacBook and that’s why I’ve kept it.
Here’s the setup I put together that checks all the boxes. I bought the Mac Mini with the M2 Pro chip, 16gb memory and 512 storage. I already had the iPad 10.5 Pro so I also had iOS. I also bought a 27” monitor. So with Continuity I can share the keyboard and trackpad and Sidecar to share the screens. So I can plug the monitor into either the Mac or the iPad and use MacOS and iOS. Astropad is a $79 USB-C plugin device that enables the Mac to project the OS onto the iPad. So now I have a well rounded setup
Will wait for comparison review between iPad air and m4 iPad Pro to see if any real advantages in the Pro version. I’m waiting on new iPad mini it’s the one that really works best. Another great video Mark
Nice recap. Just a few things. Final Cut and Logic updates come to the Mac on Monday and are not M4 dependent. Also, the new keyboard is not thinner than the previous model.
Don’t like two versions of the M4 and missing a Mini. Being thin at the cost of battery capacity, chip cores, and heat dissipation isn’t a good trade. With a case on it, you won’t notice. A grandmother should be able to buy any iPad and not worry whether a Pencil or keyboard will work with their model. What’s going on with the missing camera… Apple has a messy line up and like Steve Jobs did upon returning to Apple as CEO, needs to slim down and get rid of overlapping iPad models.
I had planned on getting the new Air sometime fairly soon mainly cause I wanted the bigger screen, until yesterday when I was able to obtain a slightly older 12.9 inch iPad Pro. So, now I will be in the market for a used Magic Keyboard and maybe an Apple Pencil cause I rarely have used the Pencil when I’ve had it in the past.
Quick question: If I use my iPad mostly for Affinity Photo and light video editing (eg.: IG reels). Do you guys think the iPad Air 13" with the M2 is enough?
I see many comments online regarding people having difficulty deciding on the 9-core CPU version. My take on the matter is that since the 9-core version performs similarly to the M3 chip, so it's not weak. If you are considering the 1TB model for the chip reason, you're essentially spending an additional $500 for a single-core upgrade, which isn't really worth it for most cats unless that one core makes a life and death difference to how you use the iPad. Additionally, most people don't need more than 256GB of storage, especially if you already have the 2TB iCloud+ monthly subscription. If you own an M1 or M2 model, the real question to ask yourself is how excited you are for the Tandem OLED. Otherwise, just forget it. The chip gimmick will always make whatever you buy today appear obsolete in a year or two, as seen with how the baseline M4 chips already outperform the M2 Max chip. So, instead of spending any money on an upgrade, it's better to just save it and go with the baseline. Perhaps in two or three years, you can get a brand new iPad with the money saved from not upgrading + the trade-in value. And If u are one of the guys who are still complaining about not having a MacOS on IPad, go get yourself a 15 inches Mac Air, the price is literally the same as the baseline 13 inch Ipad M4.
My M1 11 inch iPad Pro has been my main computer for some time now. Although the M1 is still an excellent chip, the idea of the M4 having a 3.8x faster neural engine is v tempting! 😎
Getting myself a new 13 inch pro, I have had my 1st gen pro now since it launched, solid still even if the battery is getting a bit goosed. Waiting to find out about this nano screen gubbins before I order it, see if it's worth the extra cash, or jwill just adding a paperlike screen protector remove glare enough ... deffo getting a pencil too!
Been waiting too long not to get a new pro. My 2018 11inch pro has such awful battery life this point and even though this new one is overkill for my needs, I’m spoiled by pro-motion. Can’t wait for next week!
The nano textured glass with much less glare is overlooked. I wish it wasn't just an option on the 1TB and 2TB models for ipad pro. Their supply chain may not be optimized to make it an option for all ipad pros
I’m still using the original 9.7” iPad Pro - it’s only in the last year that it’s really starting to feel its age. I do need to think about upgrading, but the Pro is probably too expensive to justify. :-(
Was waiting for you take, so thank you! I really wish they would have kept the iPad the same thickness and just (a) gotten rid of the camera bump and (b) given us a bigger battery.
I agree! I feel like that’s what most people care about anyway. Plus, with the same thickness as before, we could actually use the second generation Apple Pencil on it!
Have the 12.9 m1 and it’s been just an entertainment device. Thinking of selling it and my MacBook to upgrade to new MacBook. I tried to use it as my only device and just can’t do it.
Around double the full screen and peak brightness of the S9 Tab, dang. Really wish there was a MacBook Air Pro with this screen. Hopefully iPad OS 18 does enough to allow me to use it as my primary machine (Xcode).
Mark, the Ipad Pro with M4 is nothiing more than an extremely high priced Tablet. And to boot they are trying to make the Ipad Pro into a Sudo Mac Computer. How many people actually use an Ipad Pro for TH-cam Video Creation?
If you’re a hardcore digital artist some of these features are worth it even if a bit overpriced. I’m really scared it’s gonna bend and break though. lol

@@sethfeldpausch4337 i saw from another youtuber its beacuse they had to re-design the module where the apple pencil charges due to the camera and ALL the face id sensors being there so the new apple pencil pro is different than the old 2nd gen (the magic keyboard its actually where it makes no sense)
I understand the Pencil charge change but I use the Pencil 2 almost everyday---for notes, PDF edit, photo edits, etc--and some basic sketching for my own use. I have had most all the Pros and have a 2021 and a 2018 (with battery issues) and to get back where I am, I would have to buy the Ipad Pro, the Pencil Pro and the Pro keyboard🎉. In truth, unless software changes considerably, the new Air 12.9 would be at least as good as what I have, somewhat better actually, so when I am ready to upgrade (a year or 2 I hope) I will look at the Air 12.9--I want the big screen.
@@PTFWWDB That's what I understand so you have to buy that Pencil Pro and I think you will have to buy the new (well done it appears but....) keyboard.
Still doing all my artwork on an original iPad Pro so it’s time for an upgrade, my plan was to purchase a new pro if they moved the camera because I use it for a lot of FaceTime calls as well as art stuff. They’ve exceeded my expectations with a 13” version with a side camera however I don’t think I need the power of the Pro so I’m going to save some money and get an 13” Air. Also I don’t really need a new pencil the one I have does everything I need. I think much like the action button on the iPhone 15 Pro I’ll forget about the new functionality and stick to my traditional ways of doing things.
This M4 chip tab Has NPU ? of 16 core or more. Because M1 M2 M3 in laptop and in I Mac has 16 Core NPU But in I pad of M1 M2 , I didn't know , that NPU is present or not ? Please ans And suggest I pad with NPU Chip
No. Apple says it has no intention of making macOS touch friendly as it would be a tough task for their own apps let alone getting devs to rebuild every macOS app to be touch-friendly. Microsoft tried that and it was an unmitigated disaster costing MS a chance of some leverage in the tablet market. It would be remarkable, knowing the utter failure of Windows Tablets, if Apple would go that way.
I hope the USB speed is faster this time. Yes its thunderbolt but that 40Gbps is for display data. It can only do 10Gbps so hope we go up to maybe 20 this time idk 🤷🏼♂️
I think the thin thing is getting played out. I have the 2020 13” iPad Pro & keyboard. I like the fact that the keyboard will get function keys, camera moved , but the price I’ll have to pay to get all new is ridiculous. It doesn’t move me
Nice video Mark I’m a big iPad (pro) fan. I use one as my main home computer and have been very happy with my M1. The M2 didn’t offer enough in terms of upgrades for me so I skipped that one but have ordered a 512GB WiFi silver 13” model with the pro pencil and the new Magic Keyboard I love nice screens and this OLED upgrade was enough for me to buy. M4 and the reduced weight is a really nice bonus, as is the increased base storage
I have discovered that the iPad mini is too small for me and the 12.9 inch iPad Pro is too big so I will be buying when I can afford it the 11 inch iPad Pro with 512 gig storage and cellular and of course AppleCare, but it may be a while cause I can’t afford it right now
Great video and pre review. I am finally considering an ipad pro 13 after all these years because of oled. Currently using tabs9ultra with s24u. Amazing devices. I think apple messed up by making the 13 inch 300usd more and having a binned m4 chip in the 256-512 storage. I pray that the ios and ipad os update will really be what consumers have been wanting.
11 inch iPad Air ordered to replace my M1 iPad Pro 11 inch. I'm a developer not a 'content creator' type so don't have the need for all the artistic gubbins but I do a lot of Zoom calls so want the camera in the proper place. This works with all my existing cases so I don't have to spend a fortune on accessories. If iPadOS ever catches up and allows me to do 'real work' then I might consider a 13 inch down the road
Thanks for that quick summary, Mark - you picked up things I certainly missed in my first watch. When you are reviewing, I am really keen to hear real world use of the new Logic Pro 2 for iPad. I would consider an iPad (probably Air 11 inch) with keyboard and Apple Pencil Pro, as an alternative to a laptop IF it can work for music production. Everything else I do would work with it... (web browsing, documents, entertainment viewing, reading etc...) but if it really does work for music production - then I could be sold...
Well for me iPad Pro...but because of the lightness and thinness. I want to use my iPad for drawing. I would have liked the Nano Textured Screen but $500 extra to get it (have to have the 1TB and then they have the gall to ask $100 more to get it Nano Textured.... Geeez) I will just get a paper like from your link instead. $50 vs $500. I have an iPad Pro M1 13" but I am going with the 11" so it is lighter to carry and draw on (I tend to not use the 13" because it is so big and bulky... unless I have it on the keyboard) For now I will get the Magic Keyboard and if I find a good case on Amazon for it (Apple is just offering their Denim Cases that look like 💩within 3-6 months) So I have two weeks to decide.
At the bottom of the range, it looks like you can't get the 9th gen iPad from the Apple Store anymore. Good that the 10th gen has dropped in price, but will consider iPad Air when 9th gen no longer supported.

Digging the Reddwarf T-shirt 😊
Nano texture 16gb of ram and 10 core CPU (I think) is only for the 1 & 2 TB models. I’m pretty excited for the new iPads a little bummed the second generation pencil, that I just bought less than a year ago, is not compatible with the new iPads.
New version of Final Cut Pro for the Mac too 10.8 only 6 months after 10.7. Got some decent features too.
Quick question: do you guys know if the iPad Air M2 is powerful enough to handle Photoshop or Affinity Photo & Final Cut Pro?
Sort out the hobbled software and I might get interested
Exactly this. I'm beginning to think that iOS just isn't capable.
M1 iPad pros should be fine for years to come
I'm still on my 11" M1 iPad Pro. I'm waiting to see if there's some compelling reason in iPadOS18 before pulling the trigger and updating.
I think you’re wrong with the new final cut and use an external drives that works on the M1 and M2 iPad Pro as well. It’s just in the final cut two software hardware.
I really hope they put out a new Mini later this year. I love this last version but I want to get one with a larger storage capacity.
With those new features on the Pencil Pro it will become far more useful of an accessory for the Vision Pro.
Yes I had the original iPad Pro 9.7. I’m actually upgrading from the the original iPad Pro to the new pro 11 inch version
Still not tempted to upgrade from my 4th gen Pro
We need a comparison to the last gen
Thanks for posting this video
Hi Mark please make a video comparing the new IPad Air M2 verses the iPad Pro M2 running logic 2 for iPad . Thanks
Would you rather the iPad Air M2 or iPad Pro m1 certified refurbished given they are basically the same price?
Five different sized circles on the camera bump?
What’s going on with the missing camera…
Apple has a messy line up and like Steve Jobs did upon returning to Apple as CEO, needs to slim down and get rid of overlapping iPad models.
How good is that Magic Keyboard?
That Tandem OLED display looked so good when watching on my old 2K Samsung monitor! 😂
How much slower is the 5G ON IT ?
What’s the screen like? Is it good on the eyes? I haven’t heard a SINGLE TH-camr talk about if it has DC Dimming or PWM flickering ect
I agree
Expensive clutter I'll never use, prefer my phone.
Have the 12.9 m1 and it’s been just an entertainment device. Thinking of selling it and my MacBook to upgrade to new MacBook. I tried to use it as my only device and just can’t do it.
The 4x improvement is with hardware accelerated raytracing which m2 doesn’t have (from apple website)
Around double the full screen and peak brightness of the S9 Tab, dang. Really wish there was a MacBook Air Pro with this screen. Hopefully iPad OS 18 does enough to allow me to use it as my primary machine (Xcode).
Gave you a cheeky 👍and I still wished they released an iPad Mini this year.
Mark, the Ipad Pro with M4 is nothiing more than an extremely high priced Tablet. And to boot they are trying to make the Ipad Pro into a Sudo Mac Computer. How many people actually use an Ipad Pro for TH-cam Video Creation?
None
If you’re a hardcore digital artist some of these features are worth it even if a bit overpriced.
I’m really scared it’s gonna bend and break though. lol
@@UpgradedPHP It's not going to bend and break unless you bend and break it! I treat my expensive toys w/ great care and would not expect that mine would ever bend or break!
@@ruscheinSame here.
@@davidjacobs6244 It may be because I'm a techie, or because I'm old and to me these devices are man-made miracles. 45 years ago I used what we then called supercomputers and these modern devices are orders of magnitude faster and the greatest engineering marvels humans have ever created or maybe it's just that I am not rich but I suspect I would still treat my stuff with care.
I can’t wait to get a new iPad Pro :)!
I want the new mini!
the pencil compatible thing is a freaking debacle like my goodness
For real! I understand not having compatibility with the g1 pencil, but there is ZERO reason why the g2 pencil shouldn't work for it!
@@picnicphoto the air will be as good as the previous pros? the only pencil that will work on the new air is the pencil pro , right:?
@@PTFWWDB That's what I understand so you have to buy that Pencil Pro and I think you will have to buy the new (well done it appears but....) keyboard.
Ive just bought an ipad pro in july last year. Looks good but its time to jump one model. Next year hopefully i will try the new too
old ipad pro or new ipad pro for gaming?
Still doing all my artwork on an original iPad Pro so it’s time for an upgrade, my plan was to purchase a new pro if they moved the camera because I use it for a lot of FaceTime calls as well as art stuff. They’ve exceeded my expectations with a 13” version with a side camera however I don’t think I need the power of the Pro so I’m going to save some money and get an 13” Air. Also I don’t really need a new pencil the one I have does everything I need. I think much like the action button on the iPhone 15 Pro I’ll forget about the new functionality and stick to my traditional ways of doing things.
This M4 chip tab
Has NPU ?
of 16 core or more.
Because
M1 M2 M3 in laptop and in I Mac has 16 Core NPU
But in I pad of M1 M2 , I didn't know , that NPU is present or not ?
Please ans
And suggest I pad with NPU Chip
they all have 16 core NPU
I was wondering if the iPad will eventually replace the MacBooks? I’m not a techie so I don’t how feasible or likely that is.
It doesn’t move me
Nice video Mark
I’m a big iPad (pro) fan. I use one as my main home computer and have been very happy with my M1.
The M2 didn’t offer enough in terms of upgrades for me so I skipped that one but have ordered a 512GB WiFi silver 13” model with the pro pencil and the new Magic Keyboard
I love nice screens and this OLED upgrade was enough for me to buy. M4 and the reduced weight is a really nice bonus, as is the increased base storage
I have discovered that the iPad mini is too small for me and the 12.9 inch iPad Pro is too big so I will be buying when I can afford it the 11 inch iPad Pro with 512 gig storage and cellular and of course AppleCare, but it may be a while cause I can’t afford it right now
Great video! Cheers 🍻
I was wondering about MagSafe charging which they didn’t do on the new iPad Pro! Was surprised about that!
I'm not getting the iPad (either of them) but can't wait to watch your review
My M1 ipad pro is already more than enough and only limited by ipados. Have no plans to even look at an upgrade unless it can run MacOS
Waiting for your video. Thank you
I don’t like them removing the wide lens and then still kept the port for it. Really kinda turning me off on this one as much as I want to get one.
What’s interesting is that Apple made the “ Air “ because of the thinness & light weight, but now, the Pro is lighter than the “ Air “ 🤔
