What I love most about this version of the band is how they never rested on their laurels and always changed up the arrangements. This particular version of Incident shows an incredible display of dynamics, constraint and use of space. Sometimes the notes that you DON’T play are just as important as the ones that you do. Carlos shows his love for both John Coltrane and Miles Davis here, and Richard Baker??...his keyboard work with the band is always BRILLIANT!!! And what can one say about “The Gorillas” (Armando Peraza, Raul Rekow and Orestes Vilato)?? A true trio of percussive MASTERS!!! The Zebop/Shango band is one of my favorite Santana lineups!
Well said, man. An absolute killer version of this classic. The Zebop record is what turned me on to Carlos back in my teens. I've been a devoted follower since, including seeing the band 30-plus times, beginning with this incarnation in Saratoga Springs, NY. Peace!
