When I bought mine 156, reverse light didn’t work. The reverse light switch was bad, but after changing it, reverse light still didn’t always work. The problem was in gear lever. Screws that holds up the gear lever for chassie were loosened, and the lever has to much play, so the reverse gear wuold be barely engaged. After tightening those screws, everything works fine.
When you turn on the front wiper (no matter the speed) and put it into reverse, the rear wiper should turn on automatically and work continously. If the reverse switch or wiring is bad this function also will not work. This way I discovered a faulty reverse switch in my Stilo, that I wasn't even aware of. I don't have parking sensor there so there was nothing obvious to tell me the switch is bad. And when I was backing up at night I noticed it's a bit dark on the back of the car, but I never expected the backing lights to not work at all :)

Is this the same on Alfa 159 because I have same problem with my car
Hello. It's the same. The location is a bit better
I have a 2009 mercury millan. Does the sensor just not involve that or is something up. Is it off?
Hello. Unfortunately we do not have that car here in Portugal or in Europe. Sorry, I guess I cannot help.
