ill be doing this installation on the exact same vehicle tomorrow and before watching this video was not confident....however NOW! after watching your very detailed instructional video im full off confidence and would like to say....THANKYOU VERY MUCH FOR A VERY GOOD DISCRIPTIONAL VIDEO!!!!
This was such a great instructional video! You did an absolute superb job explaining and showing everything clearly! Very much appreciated!!! Kudos to you!!
Great idea putting sensor at the rear so it can seen from rear view mirror ALSO Saves a lot of time and faffing about Tracing the cable to the front on the car Many Thanks Very Clear explanations Steve Butler UK
Can't thank you enough for this! I just bought a 2000 Honda Accord with a dead reverse sensor. Planning to add an aftermarket reverse sensor and the one that you showed fit the bill!
2002-2004 Honda Odyssey rear sensor Installation is a little more tricky but still similar to the one in this video. When drilling your holes for the sensors you'll need to avoid the inner reinforcement steel beam directly behind the plastic bumper. There's no need to remove the rear bumper completely but I highly recommend to at least peel back the plastic bumper by not removing the bottom underneath fasteners so you can see where the holes can be drilled, . The two center #2 & #3 sensors will end up being a little further apart than recommended about 27 inches apart . The two outer sensors #1 & #4 on both ends won't be a problem to clear of the inner steel enforcement. Also, the back-up light on the older Odyssey models is in the lift gate so it's going to require some extra wire fishing to get the wires to the inside of the Driver's quarter panel. Be expecting to take a good afternoon to complete the job.
Thanks for the great video. I actually installed the viewing module inside the driving side pillar directly behind the driver. As I play music and don't really need to see the screen, just hear the beeping. Cheers. 👍
thanks my brother very useful video, I will get for my car for sure, I will make a video too, installing it to motivate others and stop damaging cars around.
The practical way of using the system is listen to the beeps. Once the beeping gets really fast to almost constant, you know you need to stop. This is same way you use a factory backup system. Basically no need to read the little number.
You can but then you would have to connect it to a power source where it is activated when the ignition is on like the cigarette lighter but then it will be ON constantly unless you use a seperate switch that you can switch on when you are parking.
Hi it is a very helpful video but I have a little bit of concern about the product, especially the connection between the brain and the sensors. The sensors in the box have not been labelled or marked which one goes where to. Do you think it is going to be OK to use? or actually it does not matter how we set up the sensors and I can label it when the set up is done. Looking forward to your answer and God bless you
Great job, but by mounting the led display upside down on the liner, doesn't that mean the distance display digits are shown upside down? It looked like that on the final test you did at end of video?
In reality you don't need to look at the display when using it. Just listen to the beep and beeps faster as you get closer. In all the years I have used it, I never look at the display and just listen to the beep.
Does the sensor work all the time ? Or just when you put it in reverse gear ? In my country people get stuck in traffic a lot. I would be deaf from that noise if it kept beeping every time a bike or car came close enough to my sensor. So do please answer.
I just bought an opel astra j sports tourer with the exact system installed, second hand car, the wiring seems legit, still no impute on the panel, maybe it got the source miss locked or maybe the on/off panel button(that's missing) it's locked on off position? Any ideea on how to eventually bypass the missing button and give activation imput to the panel?
You were not kidding when you said "inexpensive" lol, didn't expect less than $20! I'm thinking of getting this for my Jeep Wrangler, pretty sure my rear bumper is metal with just a plastic covering, how well does that little hole drill handle metal?
Are these 4 sensors are two separate transmitter- receiver pair? One for left and one for right judgement? Or All are four separate combined tx+rx each? Regards
Each sensor is a separate sensing unit. There really is no Tx/Rx as in data being sent. The sonar sensor probably changes resistance when objects get close to it.
They are 40khz piezo electric elements. emitting short pulses of ultrasonics then capture echo. Then by doing math using microcontroller to estimate the distance to the reflection surface. As we know velocity of sound in air as around 340m/s There is an ultrasound transmission and reception.
Well done 👍 and I have some questions did you choices the ABCD or Because I buy now with 8 Sensor and it doesn’t have ABCD should I choose the The ABCD
No it won't get damaged by water like that. Gluing it would mean you can never removing it. Say you bump into something or the sensor goes bad, you won't be able to replace the sensor.
How much clearance do you need behind the plastic bumper for the sensors? My rear bumper cover doesn't seem to have much room behind it to install the sensors because of the steel support so close. Is the kit drill bit strong enough to drill holes in the metal as well?
I used your video to successfully install a 4-sensor parking system in my old Corsa. I have one question: Can I connect the black wire from the power line (the ground) directly to the car's chasis without using the existing cables? Is there any risk of discharging the battery If I do this?
Thank you. I'm planning to install one this week. Unlike your bumper which the installation cables are securely placed inside bumper assembly. Mine seems exposed to the bottom. I think I should have the cables wraped with something. BTW where do you put the beeper? I found mine when I put on the test the sound is extremely loud and a bit annoying. Did you put additional cover on it?
My question is.. when you try the sensor while you where getting near, is the gear were on reverse position? Because I think you connected the wires at the reverse wires of the lights before it will activate. Right?
Hey when you installed the new parking sensors, did you put a bead of enteringsilicone on the inside around the sensor to prevent water entering or it's not necessary?
I was wondering how well these cheap systems worked! I was skeptical on buying one for the wife’s pickup truck! Looks like it works fine, only thing I’m worried about is will it have long enough wires to reach from the bumper on an ext. cab Chevy Silverado to the dash for the display?
Thanks for the video. Didn't you mount the display upside-down? It has numbers to read the distance... I bought an 8-sensor kit on Amazon for under $30 I think, didn't install it yet...I may mount the display on top of the dash or on the sun visor edge where I can fold it down a couple inches to view it. It is for front & rear. I bought a GMC Envoy XUV, the model that the rear opens up like a Chevy Avalanche, and I'm stumped where to put the box and wiring---I can't think where to run the wires, I may need to run them under the vehicle because the cargo area gets hosed out and there's a divider wall with electric window behind the rear seats sealing the cargo area from the passenger area; it also folds down if I want to haul sheets of plywood. I also bought a dashcam that came with a rear camera and---same story---stuck on where to mount it and run the wiring. I can't do a license mount because the tailgate has an electric window and opens both down like a pickup and also hinges to open like old Ford station wagons...besides, my license plate mounting only has bottom holes. May need to mount next to hitch receiver... but maybe seeing I need to remove rear bumper, I can mount it centered in the bumper with the sensors while I have it off...Thanks again.
On this Honda Odyssey, the inside of the bumper has markings stamped on it from the factory. I just used those locations. If you have a different vehicle, you can put painters tape on the outside of the bumper, then measure equal distance and height for each sensor (or match close to what location factory uses if it's an option).
hi, i have parking sensor installed in my car and i tap in the reverse light wire, now im planning to add backup camera and need power source also, can i tap it in the same reverse camera and merge with parking sensor ?
Very well made video, thank you for showing all the details. I'm fed up with videos made with one hand holding the camera while trying to do the work with the other. Questions: so the power is connected to backup light power source so when it is in reverse gear the sensor will function. What about the last part of the video? You approached the back of the vehicle and the alarm sounds. Was the engine on then? I'm assuming so cause when you're in a parking lot and trying to backup(even before gearing to reverse) you want to know if there are cars or people coming from the other direction. And you don't want the sensors on when the vehicle is quietly parked in your garage or a parking space.
That last part of the testing is with car running and gear in reverse. The backup sensors only come on when gear in reverse. It does not come on when you have it park or drive. This is same as how a factory system work.
Nice one. I had a 6 sensor system installed 4 for the rear and 2 for the front corners. Since you installed the display upside down i guess you don't use the distance display and just use the beeping? I actually had installed a reverse and front camera too because the sensors can't be trusted to pick up everything. The rear corner sensors pick up anything the rear camera misses. The front sensors/camera comes in handy in close quarter parallel parking..Allows me to get much closer than i would if i was just eyeballing it.
mpcp27 I was going to ask about the display, noticed he had it upside down. I wonder if it can be opened and rotated. I like where he has it too. Nice idea since you're already looking back there.
Can you please try and help me out i have a audi A4 Sedan but i don't know exactly where i can mount the screen since it is a sedan and i can't mount it on the back window or on the back board and the roof might work but how will i stick it so it doesn't fall off
@@mariuswaterson8009 This display unit is very small. You can mount it on the ceiling (like my van) or on the rear deck inside the car. Hey, will it also work i.e. beep if lets say a person is standing talking on phone behind your car as you try to back up? In other words, does it detect only large stationary objects or people too? If latter, if that person starts walking sideways while you're backing up, does it still beep or does person have to be stationary in order for this thing to work? Thx
Could I buy another 2 extra sensors and just tap them to 2 of the sensors that is connected to the module? I plan to put the extra 2 in the font bumper
The sensor wire is 8' long (connecting to the controller box). The display module wire is 16' long. So with those measurement, you can see if it will work.
Had to stop watching because TH-cam has placed FULL COMMERCIALS about every 2 minutes in your video. Sorry! TH-cam will drive me to other sites soon unless this is reduced. (There seems to be even more commercials on your video than I've seen elsewhere on TH-cam...which already is too often.)
Mark, I appreciate you letting me know about this. The last I want to do is annoy my viewers. I went and checked the settings and I think it's fixed now, as there are only 3 ads. Again, I appreciate your comment and you have a great weekend.
Thanks! I have never posted videos so I just assumed TH-cam was in total control of this. I understand TH-cam needs to make money, but there is a limit to what people will put up with. I've see videos that had a 4 MINUTE commercial with NO SKIP option! Needless to say I left that video! Thanks again! You have a good weekend too! May your weekend projects go well! HAHA!
Just the sensor with the smallest distance measurement is used i guess. Otherwise the system wouldn’t make sense. If there is a little pole behind the left of your car, you want to stop before that pole and not what is further away in front of the other sensors.
Yeah got it on sunday, finished it monday. Very straight forward, thanks to your video. You don't have to splice into the reserve light bulb, just splice into the factory back up sensor plug like you showed.
Nice video! Do you have to cut the reversing wires for you able to tap the red wire of the sensor? Im afraid to void my warranty if such wire cutting were involve. Thanks
You don't cut the wire. You need to tap into the wire. Watch this video: th-cam.com/video/uaYdCRjDr4A/w-d-xo.html Go to 5:44 to learn how to tap a wire.
My front sensor got damaged, honda freed blue. How can I have access to the new ones for me to replace the old ones? In my country they are not available. Please help.
The display is designed to be place on the front dash. But I found it to be safer to place it on the back so when you are backing up, your head should be looking at the back. By placing the display on the back headliner, the digits will be upside down. When you are using the backup sensor, you are listening to the beeping and looking at the side LED bar (not really reading the numbers).
+MrRangerZr1 These kits work very well. Just as good as factory. You don't get false alerts for no reason (when they work). You can't change the volume.
MrRangerZr1 You can place the loudspeaker in a foam insulation, inside of the trunk plastic covers, just to dimm the sound. It is not necessary to watch the parking distance on the display.
good video, but the main point of these videos is locating and knowing how to tap the reverse light wire . It would have been nice to get a tutorial on that
Sorry for skipping that but for any car, you have to start with the reverse light bulb and trace the wire back from the bulb and connect to the positive wire. That is the only way.
After I took the old one out, I examined all the parts, and found 1 sensor to have gone bad perhaps with water getting into the sensor itself. The rest of the parts including control box was fine. I had that in the car for about 8 years.

Just the sensor with the smallest distance measurement is used i guess. Otherwise the system wouldn’t make sense. If there is a little pole behind the left of your car, you want to stop before that pole and not what is further away in front of the other sensors.
But what about the front sensors if youre connecting it to the reverse?
They have specific kits made for front parking sensor and those need to be wired to the brake switch.
Just Installed this kit on my van.
Wow, that's fast. Glad you got yours done.
Yeah got it on sunday, finished it monday. Very straight forward, thanks to your video. You don't have to splice into the reserve light bulb, just splice into the factory back up sensor plug like you showed.
how do you know where to make the holes?
Nice video! Do you have to cut the reversing wires for you able to tap the red wire of the sensor? Im afraid to void my warranty if such wire cutting were involve. Thanks
You don't cut the wire. You need to tap into the wire. Watch this video: th-cam.com/video/uaYdCRjDr4A/w-d-xo.html Go to 5:44 to learn how to tap a wire.
i See! thanks for this. Its a big help! all the best!
My front sensor got damaged, honda freed blue. How can I have access to the new ones for me to replace the old ones? In my country they are not available. Please help.
Aliexpress
You made it look so easy. Cheers!
Hi
Thanks for the video,
Would you please write me the measures on the Chrysler Voyager.
Thanks again for your efforts
Can you do a video on electromagnetic parking sensors please. Those require no drilling. Very cheap. Looking forward to your answer.
Sokol Murati The electromagnetic sensors i found required the car to get very close ( like
+Michael Chong Thanks for sharing!
the display numbers look upside down, is it any way to flip them?
The display is designed to be place on the front dash. But I found it to be safer to place it on the back so when you are backing up, your head should be looking at the back. By placing the display on the back headliner, the digits will be upside down. When you are using the backup sensor, you are listening to the beeping and looking at the side LED bar (not really reading the numbers).
excellent video, very clearly explained
Compared to factory sensors, how is this unit? Is it really sensitive? Can you control the warning noise level?
+MrRangerZr1 These kits work very well. Just as good as factory. You don't get false alerts for no reason (when they work). You can't change the volume.
Looks like it has solid reviews. How's it working currently?
Working fine, no issue
MrRangerZr1
You can place the loudspeaker in a foam insulation, inside of the trunk plastic covers, just to dimm the sound.
Where did you hook up the power line?
to the power cable running to the revering light .... Watch the video and its explained.
Great video!!!!
How long did your old sensor last before you need to replace it?
After I took the old one out, I examined all the parts, and found 1 sensor to have gone bad perhaps with water getting into the sensor itself. The rest of the parts including control box was fine. I had that in the car for about 8 years.
8 years is not bad at all for that cheap price.
If I have the sensors color matched will they still work because the color of my vehicle is not an option?
These ones you get are also painted by the manufacturer. You can paint them yourself but don't put too thick of paint on them.
Ok thanks
Can i connect the ground on the ground of reverse light
The ground wire on the light is not a good ground. Connect it to an actual chassis ground.
How can your sensors detect you even when your car was not in reverse???? I think the sensor works only when the reverse gear is engaged?
Because the car was in reverse gear and holding the brake so I won't get run over.
@@dial2fast hand brakes?
2:23 What's the name of the tool that brings the rotational power from the drill to the narrow space?
Can you only just plug in the sensor and not the display?
Will it still work?
The display has the buzzer for the audio warning.
Thanks 👍
hey I installed it in my car you think we can change the sound of the sensor its really annoying
Hi i have a question
good job!
Only problem won't the numbers be upside down
Thanks pls show me brand & price?
Thanks
Hey I got some, mine don't say ABCD so which one goes where?
