Remember that humans get light armor proficiency + shield for free in BG3. That means if you are a human wizard, you don't need mage-armor once you can get studded leather +1 or spidersilk armor.
Or you can take a 1 level fighter dip up front, getting all armor and shield options, as well as con saves, self heal, and defense for more AC. Sure, it costs spell progression, and if that feels bad just respec to it at, say, level 6. But it's very strong, even on races that get armor proficiencies.
@@garion046 Sure 1 (or even 2 levels for action surge) is a classic DIP for a wizard. I just wanted to point out how BG3 was unlike regular DND 5e and how that opened up some other possibilities.
Great set of tips. You sound like a true pro! A tip to new-comers : Don't multi-class at all. Focus on your class, and enjoy the development of your class. Multi-classing is highly overrated, unless you REALLY know what you're doing. Instead rely on your companions and even out the skill-set with them, and focus on your class being the best it can be.
@@Thuggy_Les_Bons_Tuyaux Well I'm sure multi-classing can be great if you're a D&D pro, but for people who just want to enjoy the game I think it is unnecessary.
No need to multiclass, although I'd say that two levels of fighter can be worth it on almost everyone for heavy armor, martial weapons, con saves and action surge. 1 level dip in cleric or rogue is fantastic too. But like yoh said, you should know the break points, like multi attack at 5, feats at 4/8/12 etc. Totally not needed for this game. I would say respeccing party members (same classes) but changing abilities and skills/subclass can be very valuable
I felt Charisma based characters i.e. Bard Warlock and Paladins are very easy to play with and integrated into the starting party. I love to play the Monk but had a really hard time getting a balanced party around that class. I am also loving Karlach but did not use her much as of now.
I remember in pillars of eternity i chose paladin for similar reasons: good at charisma non combat stuff, can support, can tank, can dps, and gives you the most "main character" experience since you are always on the front line and leadin the fights and interacting. So now im a lvl 2 pally right now and definitely looking to go oathbreaker, but debating multiclassing as warlock for spell slots refresh on on short rest or bard because idk bard seems fun from the RP side of things having a musical instrument and stuff im sure there are funny situations and interactions.
i play monk/cleric/assa/battlemaster most of the time (lvl 4) my monk and the assa will become multi-the assa with lvl 5 and the monk on lvl 9. for fights with a lot enemys i would swap battlemaster with mage.
Just remember guys that Hex uses concentration and you can't concentrate on two spells at once so if you use Hex you are also missing out on plenty of other good spells like Darkness or mentioned Cloud of Daggers.
The thing is that you get hex all day in this game pretty much. As long as you don't lose concentration. That is incredibly strong early when you don't have good bonus actions and only have 2 spell slots. Debiff shouldn't be slept on for debuffing shove rolls. Granted once you get higher levels the damage falls off as it doesn't scale with spell slots and yiu get way more things to use bonus actions on.
@@bmardiney I'm slowly gathering parts for my new build but I'm still a few months away from having everything in hand. I also love consoles, have always gamed on both PC and consoles; I don't see them as being mutually exclusive.
If you have decent internet I would recommend GeforceNow, I have played for about 50 hours on GeForce Now counting my time with early access and it’s amazing
I’m really enjoying the Eldritch Knight Fighter. Shield is insanely useful for tanking, Blade Ward too. Firebolt gives them a good ranged option, Thunderwave when they’re surrounded and Sleep to help keep some foes at bay.
Rogue-Thief has the great ability to gain a second bonus action. You can hide twice in one turn, or hide and dash. This is great for keeping in hiding after a sneak attack, and reposition if necessary. Outside of scripted encounters, a thief can solo kill an entire enemy group undetected if the location is favorable.
For wizards, don't forget about ritual spells. They don't seem like much, most of the time, but they're free buffs except to the extent that you have to keep the spell prepared
Great video because you can skip right to the class you've chosen. I did choose Fighter and Battle Master for my first playthrough b/c I want a fairly straightforward character as I learn the rest of the systems.
Completely disagree on Rogue. Do not waste your sub on Assassin. The two perks only work on the first round and surprise round. Meanwhile Thief giving you an extra bonus action equates to such flexibility.
This. While the assassins bonus chance to hit and auto crit are very good, they only work on the first turn of combat IF you surprised your enemies, at most you're gonna be getting those bonuses once for combat. Meanwhile Thiefs ALWAYS have a second bonus action, you can use these EVERY TURN, and that's HUGE. For me, Assassins have the same problem in BG3 that they have in tabletop D&D 5E, they have to relly solely on surprising their enemies.
If you are entering turn based mode and setting up ambushes when its obvious you're going to enter a fight, it really works for you more often than not, because the enemies already have a soft spot or two among them. If you are on average running marathons for battles, thieves go better. I run a astarion and my main char is an assassin. I get HELLA sneak attacks and high avg dmg between the both of them working as a team
The extra bonus action is irrelevant unless making use of melee rogue. And even then rogue doesn’t compete in damage with any martial class unless making use of sneak attack which doesn’t make use of the bonus action . Sure you can reposition easier. But the reality is. If you are playing assassin why the hell wouldn’t you sneak and start every fight possible with a sneak attack to enable your strength? Plus the advantage on any enemy that hasn’t acted is far easier to take advantage of then you seem to realize. Dex classes naturally end up with high initiative so even if you don’t get to surprise them you almost always get to sneak attack a target using that free advantage. The first turn is the literal most important one. So it’s not a real weakness to have a class that specializes in the opening of a fight. To add to this there is a fear that makes you immune to surprise but also grants a flat initiative bonus to help guarantee they end up first in every fight.
The assassin has 3 features, not 2. The missed one is that when combat starts, you get all your actions back. In BG3 if your action kicks off combat then you start with that action spent. If the assassin doesn't 1-hit KO their target, they're the only class that can then attack again. This means 2 Atks that autocrit (everyone is still surprised), more if you got the kill. These also apply Sneak Attack (increasing your chance of the 1-hit ko). Sneak Attack dice get doubled on a Crit. Extra Bonus is great if you're regularly using a lot of consumeables (something my brain wiring doesn't like to do), but otherwise doesn't net you as near as much damage. Since there's really no range-tax and you can hide before/after an attack roll - the extra dash/hide doesn't offer much past the first bonus action you're already using.
*TIP:* If you want a mage experience that feels like a mastermind who controls space and time, try something like divination wizard with the shield reaction spell, it's so awesome. 🥰
What I really loved about your DoS 2 guides were the party comp suggestions, considering that you are more locked to certain classes/subclasses in bg3 if you wanna bring companions and go through their story. I had serious decision paralysis when choosing my starting class and party since I didn't really know what worked and didn't work when it came to multiclassing. Party comp guides would certainly help give people ideas of what classes they want while also having some companions that they want. Awesome work so far!
@@gdgd5194cmon man that’s life. I’m a noob to bg3 and there is a learning curve - I want to be a bard but idk how tf to play with Gale, Lazel and shadowheart.
Fully agree on taking a first level in fighter for any full caster. Armor and defense fighting style is useful for all but cleric, and con save proficiency is amazing for all but sorcerer (who tbh I'd recommend dipping cleric for a level at level 2 instead to get armor and goodies). Second Wind is good too. And later once you get a few more spells going you can choose to go back and pick up fighter 2 for action surge, which does incredible things for quick setups and burst damage. If you really don't want to delay your casting progression I'd say respec at level 6 and start fighter and get 5 levels of your caster. You'll feel as powerful as you did last level and a lot more sturdy and it'll feel good not to fail as many concentration checks.
Thank you for all your videos, they were extremely helpful. Bg3 was very overwhelming for me (still is). But your videos convinced me to persevere and really helped me get some solid foundation of the different mechanics.
The best way to use Smite is as a toggable Reaction: in some cases, you will get lucky on base damage roll and kill the monster without needing Smite it and thus save a spell slot. Also, if you Smite as a reaction after a critical, your Smite damage is doubled.
Protection fighter fighting alongside a sentinel rogue is a good pairing. Attacks on the rogue get disadvantage from the fighter and attacks on the fighter provoke sentinel vengeance from the rogue.
Sometimes it's worth to stretch out how long you can go without Long Resting, but mostly on Tactician, since resting takes 80 supplies instead of the usual 40. This makes Bards very useful, since Song of Rest basically counts as third short rest.
Just wanted to add that the spell Enhanced Leap is really useful for both in and out of combat. It's also a "ritual" spell so can be cast for free outside of combat. Every spell caster except for Cleric, Paladin, and Warlock has access to it I believe. For some ridiculously long jumps, try combining Enhanced Leap with the Druid's spider form jump.
Always obsessed with dialogue options or similar... Bard is the best that way. Speak with animals, Detect thoughts, Friends can all be had quite nicely by them.
2:40 that would’ve come in handy. Unfortunately, our melee rogue is no longer with us in the party. He slipped and fell into my dagger at camp one night.
Our melee rogue didn't want to live anymore, so he ran into my sword five times before I got the time to react and then it sadly was to late to save him.
A good tip would be to read everything about the spells you take as any kind of caster. From if it’s a bonus action or normal action or if it’s AOE or touch make sure you check.
Thief : the extra Bonus Action in BG3 is incredible ! You can hide, dash, offhand attack, etc. ( Note : in 5e rules, this is impossible. You can never have two Bonus Actions )
Wizards are very good at multiclassing. If you only get one level of wizard, you can get 4 ritual spells to cast out of combat as preparation. Then, you can literally pick any class to play for the rest of the game. I would suggest going two levels, then switching out for your fighter or rogue with transmutation school (to scribe all the rituals and brew all the potions, you want to potion of giant strength) and all the rituals. It is better to start as either rogue or fighter because of the way multiclassing works.
Nature-Cleric is an amazing tank. If you tak 8 str 10 dex 14/16con 8 int, 17 wis, 16/14 cha and most importantly shillelagh cantrip, you will decently hit coz shillelagh scales with wisdom. You can wear heavy armor + shields, High wisdom allows you to walk first coz u're the one who is likely to be first seeing the trap and, unless you have Wyll in your party, you have the best charisma for dialogues. 80% of interactions machine that is also decent in battles, hits, survives, buffs, heals. Just an amazing build for those who are too lazy to use different characters in every interaction.
"long rest after every 1 or 2 combat encounters" was the most relieving, validating shit I've ever heard. Me thinking combat in this game is just brutal and there's just not enough spell slots -- for today's session I'm going to try going a little more HAM.
I have a question about the Druid's Wildshape ability. As a fairly cheesy maneuver, some time back in EA, I would use either Wyll's imp, or a Ranger's raven familiar, to do Recon, and fly around, unlocking Waypoints, ahead of the party actually traveling around the map. Larian, wisely, put the kibosh on that little stunt; but could a Druid in a Wildshape use their animal form to do Recon, traveling around the map with their heightened abilities? Asking for a Cheese-addicted friend.
I have not tested yet on the full release but I don't see why not. You can leave the rest of the group behind without shapeshifting so it shouldn't be a problem. Maybe use the cat form though.
one thing to note about bard taht i learned the hard way is that the amount of bardic inspiration you get is not tied to your charisma modifier. i have a feeling its tied to proficientcy (1+PB) but im not sure cuz i havent gotten to level 5 yet.
Regarding the Grease spell, I think it's very much worth mentioning that the grease is flammable and can be strategically turned into a flaming surface for very solid additional damage in the early game. I really liked combining this with flaming sphere, as enemies would often stand around attacking the sphere (with its chunky 20hp) while burning to death. Sadly, the damage does drop off a bit
For fighter one really key thing is that they get the second feat/ ability increase at level 6. This makes it the only class that can multiclass with a 6/6 or 5/7 split between two classes and still get all 3 feats. (For a bonus you can get 3 attacks per round with the warlock pact of the blade extra attack stacking with the fighters one) This is can synergise nicely with a battle master fighter as you end up with two level 3 spell slots that regenerate with your superiority die on short rest without having to sacrifice your 3 attacks per round that would normally take 11 levels of fighter to have.
I'm level 8 with veng paladin now, I was constantly debating if I wanted to go Oathbreaker like I did in the EA since I enjoyed that subclass so much. I also was considering either sorcerer or warlock for multiclassing since you can easily eat away at your smite spells and having to use a long rest all the time can be a bit of a pain.
I've literally taken almost nothing you've recommended other than the eldritch blast tips. Might have to visit Withers if what I've taken isnt working out, wish id taken Hex now also i didnt read it properly i guess.
It's funny seeing what class the most people are interested in by looking at the most replayed or played starting points in the time bar at the bottom of the video. Looks like a lot of paladins.
Explain how bardic inspiration works. Is it automatically triggered on any attack roll? How does combat inspiration change that. What does clicking the icon do?
Don't try to follow this video to the dot guys.. experiment, go with the feel, go with your roleplaying. This is a true rpg , discover stuff on your own and have fun rather than seeing guides for everything atleast in first playthrough
One thing I realised indirectly from this video. I want to keep my party members as their original class (for story and rp). But I have no reason to keep their subclass. Byebye "useless" arcane trickster and trickery domain cleric.
As a new player with about 4 hours in as a wizard i highly recommend sleep as a starting spell. Let’s you put 3 things to sleep for 2 turns super OP in the early game so far
@19:06 is this true? I thought the movement speed remained unchanged at 9 meters. I hadn't noticed it in early access... So if I hide first I won't have 9 meters to cover? I will have fewer??
Barb: IIRC, Unarmored Defense doesn't really beat armor until you have like 14 DEX and 20 CON or something like that...Also, it's the same type of effect as Sorcerer's Draconic Resilience and Monk's Unarmored Defense, so they don't stack if you plan to multiclass. In any case, it's not worth it. Cleric: War or Tempest are very effective as a 1-2 level dip for your main class, you get a lot of nice stuff from them Druid: From what I've gathered online, Spore Druid is kinda meh...sounds cool on paper but the complain is that it sorta encourages you to go melee but punishes you for doing so. It's a bit complicated. As for the other two, if you wanna go melee Druid go Wild Shape, for caster go Land. Late game caster Druids are very strong. They are one of those classes that discourage multiclassing, though... Monk: IIRC, any weapon that you are profficient with is considered a Monk weapon, which increases versatility. There are still some restrictions, I think, but something like multiclassed Way od the Shadow Monk can benefit from rapiers, for example, and something like spears can provide range. Warlock: Wood Half-Elf is probably the best race for it (and great overall) as it gives you more movement speed, access to long weapons, immunity to charm and most importantly shield profficiency. If you don't plan on going with medium or heavy armor or multiclassing (Warlock is one of those classes that are better pure), it's a big boon. If you do multiclass, 1-2 levels in Sorcerer is really good for CON save profficiency and Draconic goodies (great if you go with robes), A level in Fighter for CON save profficiency, access to martial weapons and all armors and fightning style at lv1. War/Tempest Cleric is also good as a 1 level dip, Bard has its perks too...Avoid going melee with Warlock because Hexblade subclass is not in the game and I don't think Pact of the Blade is good enough substitute. Also, War Caster feat is a great pickup for any caster or character that relies on Concentration.
Circle of the Land Druid : as a player who avoids resting too often (especially on Tactician where it cost 80 food!), I do like the extra spell slots! (i.e. out of combat, you can regain a spell slot once per day I think).
I'm going to try a stealthy team. Front line / face is going to be a pact of the blade Warlock with the great weapon fighting, devilsight, darkness combo. Support caster is going to be a druid. Skill monkey is going to be a rogue. Offensive caster is going to be a mage
Still waiting for the Ps5 version, I think I have decided on female druid wood elf. The talking to animals and incresed movement speed both seem awesome
You completely missed getting Longstrider as a starting spell for wizard. That along with Enhanced Leep are great starting spells for Wizards. You can cast them as rituals and the last until you take a long rest. Longstrider gives you a 30% increase to movement in combat and can be great for positioning your fighters. You can cast it on your entire party out of combat and you don't need to worry about refreshing them.
For Paladin, idk when you get heavy armor that's at least 16/17 AC, but until that happens, it's worth having 14 DEX for an additional +2 AC on your medium armor. It's sooo helpful (16 STR, 14DEX, 14 CON, 14 CHR). Yeah, it's a little goofy on stats, but it works very well.
Dex on pally is a waste because you get heavy armor so super early. You either get a drop or enough gold for it by the time you hit Druid cove usually.
@@Daemos66 but heavy armor with more ac than medium armor comes a bit later at that point you already have the npc that let's you respec therefore it is good advice to take more dex early
@@sneakysnake3344 going any decent amount of dex drags your early levels, even if you're playing around respeccing, because you go too MAD with doing 14+ in 4 stats minimum (Str/Dex/Con/Cha). Better off doing dumped dex and a 1h+shield and just Str/Con/Cha if you feel too squishy.
9:30 recommending spellcasting as the straightforward choice?? Spellcasting is cool, but moon druid, smacking your opponents with a claw is way more straightforward than spell casting and managing spells.
"Dont worry about rage charges, you're going to long rest after every 1-2 combat encounters anyway." Me: I long rested once (apart from ship crash) before getting all 6 companions at level 3 in EA. It was... quite a few combats given I did the crypt and attacked the goblins. I thought that was ok because I had to ensure I didn't turn into a mind flayer by taking too long to do stuff. Holy shit if there's no ticking clock on LRs my casters are going to be disgusting.
Very early in to the ea period player feedback indicated that the majority of players simply did not enjoy the fact that the game could simply end from long rests. They changed it pretty quickly. It’s not as though there are zero penalties. But you aren’t likely to get a game over from resting too much anymore.
I did the same thing because it seemed heavily implied bad stuff would happen if you didn't urgently seek out tadpole help...but I guess that's just BS and you can rest-spam making resource management relatively meaningless.
Thief over assasin imo. Makes movement/hiding in combat way better. I multiclassed 5 gloomstalker to be fair. Start off with hunters mark and coating then smack em 3 times. Then 5 times a turn after. Or if yiu need to play safe, sneak shot, in combat hide, shoot, hide etc.
If i can request a tutorial going over the Hud? The reason i ask about the hud its cause well it seems like alot. And the game seems to not go over it very well. Thanks for all these vids BTW they have been great.
Hex is a trap after 4th level at the latest or higher in warlock. There are much better spells you can be concentrating on with your two whole spell slots.
Personally I don't recommend muticlassing to new players. Doing this can make things too complicated. Take your time, figure out what you like, and what you do best, then look into multiclassing.
Class tip for every class that isn't Rogue. Play Rogue. You can steal everything, get everywhere, and choose when and where to fight. If you set up an ambush with Astarion and your Rogue character, you can start most fights without the big baddie in the fight since your first attack kills them 👍
In DnD I always recommend Charisma characters. Conversation is a huge part of most campaigns so being able to contribute positively is huge, and sadly it's all wrapped into that one stat.
Not in Baldurs Gate 3. Almost all conversation skill checks have the option to use Strengh and Wisdom, and using the Wisdom options have the same results as using the Charisma options. My character has 8 Charisma, in tactician mode, and I have succeded most conversation skill checks without any save scumming.
there are a lot of class dialoge options, monk, pala..short you will miss out on the roleplay. warlock is a strong class-same with mage..but i love chars who love to evolve in fights and seek the adventure to build their own style. why would a cleric or a mage enjoy a combat? only if they are a bit unstable^^, but nothing is more fun then playing a "normal" monk who is quite easy to please and does not have strong opinions, because balance etc..but if somebody trys to push him, or extort? enough talk :D lets fight.
That's the only thing I don't like about Baldurs gate 3 Long rest after every 2 combat encounters I wish it was 4 I do it after 4, and the 3rd and 4th feel like a slog.
Generally, the most optimal dps option for ranger is an archer with archery fighting style and sharpshooter. This tends to do the best damage, keeps your out of melee, and leaves your bonus action open for hunters mark or other options. BUT do what you want! Two weapon fighting isn't bad. You can probably find items to complement your playstyle.
Playing over the next few weeks?… I’m going to be an act one for the next few months.! 😁👍 But thanks for the tips here, I was planning to get three levels in ranger for gloom stalker, and then start dipping into monk for shadow step at level six… But I may hold off now until I hit level five with the Ranger before dipping into Monk. I just want shadow steps soon as possible for my gloom, stalker ranger ninja build I have in my head and so the sooner the better but at the same time to your point… It’s probably not worth missing out on an extra attack that you get a level5 . So I may take your advice here and wait a little bit.
Question... how is your starting gear on bard etc a suit of chainmail? For me in game it's a hideous cloth coat or something. Actually, all your characters have chainmail in character selection it seems. Is there an option I'm missing that lets us pick our armor?
The only thing I noticed that was missed was how rogues at lv 3 get an extra bonus action that they can use every turn. Can use this in multiclass, like with monk and barb, etc. Broken really
That's the Thief subclass specifically, and was a buff specific to BG3 as the 'Fast Hands' ability on tabletop was limited to using an extra item or other mundane things that never came up in normal play.
advising long rests after 1 or 2 encounters seems really overkill honestly. I think only once have I had to long rest after 1 combat and only a few after 2. Short Rests after a combat are more than sufficient if your party doesnt suck
We start a new group, 4 brand new players with a bit of D&D background. Not overcomplicating things but do you think the following setup would be somewhat viable? Fighter Battlemaster Warlock Fiend Ranger Hunter Cleric Life
I hope the games D&D implementation isn’t too much of a grind. I truly disliked Pathfinder’s gameplay compared to DOS2. I’m cautious about this title rather than optimistic for this very reason. Can anyone put my mind at ease?
I get you man, tried Pathfinder but by god is it dense as hell, so many redundant skills and abilities. But that's cause it's based on the older tabletop version of Pathfinder, the new tabletop version is a lot better, they simplified what they needed to. As BG3 is based on 5th edition, and 5th edition is very noob friendly, it's very easy to pickup and play. But if I misunderstood your question, It doesn't seem that you have to grind, even though I'm at level 3, I simply followed the main story (just explored a dungeon early game).
I am going to be a scimitar + shield melee ranger maxing dex do you reccomend i use medium or light armor. Or even some combination (start medium and switch light after my dex maxxed)
still kinda bummed about the Sneak Attack nerf. Really hurts Rogues across the board since you cant use sneak attack on your bonus action attack if youre dual wielding, and you cant sneak attack on Opportunity attacks.
Can't wait for the multiclass vid I'm new to d&d and crpg's and I really wanna multiclass warlock/paladin but have no idea the best way to go about it!
Hey Fextralife. Help me make a necromancer in this game! I want my next play through to be evil, and I’d love to create a Red Wizard of Thay like character that actually works thematically. Just a suggestion ❤
I am currently thinking about what race is the best if i decide to try some other class mid-playthrough. Does anyone know if i can also rearrange my Attribute points into wisdom, Charisma, etc. when using withers reset mechanic? In that case the race choice would be quite unimportant. If its not the case githyanki would be the most flexible choice i guess
I asked this question yesterday in a stream since I'm a DnD noob. Like the others said ( and the answer I got ) is that what's fun in this game is that you can respect your points to suit your class with any races you want. The only thing you can look at is the race bonuses and which one you like the most. Oh, and of course which race you choose will make the world react to you differently.

If you have decent internet I would recommend GeforceNow, I have played for about 50 hours on GeForce Now counting my time with early access and it’s amazing
You can also try for free as long as you have the game haha
Not just wizards. Any spellcaster can do ritual spellcasting now.
can they learn ritual spells via scrolls?
@@Tonycommisso14 yes. It's a great dip for Eldritch Knights and Arcane Tricksters.
Great video because you can skip right to the class you've chosen. I did choose Fighter and Battle Master for my first playthrough b/c I want a fairly straightforward character as I learn the rest of the systems.
I do this w? every game lol just easy for me to learn, I made a fighter as well
Completely disagree on Rogue.
What?
The extra bonus action works WONDERS to never be seen.
Move, sneak attack, hide, repeat.
Halfling+Lucky feat+divination wizard: "what is this 'failing a roll' you speak of?"
This sounds like a Time Lord build
What I really loved about your DoS 2 guides were the party comp suggestions, considering that you are more locked to certain classes/subclasses in bg3 if you wanna bring companions and go through their story. I had serious decision paralysis when choosing my starting class and party since I didn't really know what worked and didn't work when it came to multiclassing. Party comp guides would certainly help give people ideas of what classes they want while also having some companions that they want. Awesome work so far!
This game is so dumbed down that everything works... And you still struggle. FML

You killed astarion????? How could you???
I wasn't even invited for the bloodshed
I love how if you played dnd 5e before then you can just jump in. Like its crazy how most of the tips in this vid apply to dnd as well
Really looking forward to the Class Build videos 👍
A good tip would be to read everything about the spells you take as any kind of caster. From if it’s a bonus action or normal action or if it’s AOE or touch make sure you check.
speak to animals is also a potion which lasts until long rest so if none of your characters have it you can still speak to animals.
Thief : the extra Bonus Action in BG3 is incredible ! You can hide, dash, offhand attack, etc.
( Note : in 5e rules, this is impossible. You can never have two Bonus Actions )
This. This is really one of the most busted feeling abilities unique to bg3 because the action economy is bonkers and it's just at level 3.
Those gloves that give +2 AC unarmored really helps make UD worth it.
I think baulders gate helped fix that.
How did the familiar / imp scouting change from EA?
Pretty sure you can wander off as druid. Although I'm not so sure you are guaranteed to be ignored.
I’m early as hell. Even though I don’t really need the guides I love watching your vids.
one thing to note about bard taht i learned the hard way is that the amount of bardic inspiration you get is not tied to your charisma modifier. i have a feeling its tied to proficientcy (1+PB) but im not sure cuz i havent gotten to level 5 yet.
16:40 - Ranger
Thanks, the only class not listed lol
Regarding the Grease spell, I think it's very much worth mentioning that the grease is flammable and can be strategically turned into a flaming surface for very solid additional damage in the early game. I really liked combining this with flaming sphere, as enemies would often stand around attacking the sphere (with its chunky 20hp) while burning to death. Sadly, the damage does drop off a bit
Yeah I found that out accidentally 😅 helped me out big time but hurt my character’s who were near the grease lol
I found out it was flammable by using my barbarian to hit an enemy with a flaming sword on an enemy standing in it lol
It was hella funny
For fighter one really key thing is that they get the second feat/ ability increase at level 6.
This makes it the only class that can multiclass with a 6/6 or 5/7 split between two classes and still get all 3 feats.
(For a bonus you can get 3 attacks per round with the warlock pact of the blade extra attack stacking with the fighters one)
This is can synergise nicely with a battle master fighter as you end up with two level 3 spell slots that regenerate with your superiority die on short rest without having to sacrifice your 3 attacks per round that would normally take 11 levels of fighter to have.
no chapter mark for ranger, i chuckled initially thinking you didnt bother lol
Fextralife literally burning the midnight oil here.
Great vid. Thanks for all the hard work.
These videos are so so helpful, thank you so much! I'm getting a new PC next week, so excited to start playing this game. :D
Must have made these video in like the pre-alpha as the options don't always match up. Yes there mostly there just in different area of action picked.
Vicious mockery: "use it when you need to use it, dont when you don't."
Legendary gameplay advice.
(Jokes aside excellent vid)
Cleric: War or Tempest are very effective as a 1-2 level dip for your main class, you get a lot of nice stuff from them
Druid: From what I've gathered online, Spore Druid is kinda meh...sounds cool on paper but the complain is that it sorta encourages you to go melee but punishes you for doing so.
Addendum : I found so much food in Act 1 (over a thousand units most probably), that the 80 food required in Tactician just LOOKS fearsome.
I'm going to try a stealthy team.
Front line / face is going to be a pact of the blade Warlock with the great weapon fighting, devilsight, darkness combo.
Support caster is going to be a druid.
Skill monkey is going to be a rogue.
Offensive caster is going to be a mage
All of these videos are incredibly helpful. Thank you for all that you do!
Since I'm a lower damage, split points, skill monkey main character I have raised the difficulty a bit with a 4 class mostly bard/ranger build, haha.
Hi, you mention that you have a guide on how to choose a class on this channel, I can't find it, can you give me the link?
I was at the druid Grove at level 2 and the weapon/armor trader had chainmail for only ~200 gold
9:30 recommending spellcasting as the straightforward choice?? Spellcasting is cool, but moon druid, smacking your opponents with a claw is way more straightforward than spell casting and managing spells.
"Dont worry about rage charges, you're going to long rest after every 1-2 combat encounters anyway."
Me: I long rested once (apart from ship crash) before getting all 6 companions at level 3 in EA. It was... quite a few combats given I did the crypt and attacked the goblins.
I did the same in early access, very annoying the sense of urgency and not mechanically paid off.
About to create my character! I think I'm going to be stuck here for a good while lol. Thanks for the tips!
16:39 Ranger time stamp 🤙
Say that to my hasted 8d10+8d6 Eldritch Blasting Sorlock Wyll lol
Imo Warlock with the small minion class early on helps more than the extra HP on kill. Its one more body doing something for you.
Pact of the Chain is a separate choice from Patron. So you can have both HP on kill and your invisible Imp attacking enemies with a poisonous barb.
very helpful!! thank you!
Personally I don't recommend muticlassing to new players. Doing this can make things too complicated.
Take your time, figure out what you like, and what you do best, then look into multiclassing.
Thank you for this.
Thanks for these videos!
That's the only thing I don't like about Baldurs gate 3
Long rest after every 2 combat encounters
I wish it was 4
I do it after 4, and the 3rd and 4th feel like a slog.
Yo, what about the ranger? I am thinking of using a dex dual wield melee ranger but I think it might be suboptimal. What do u think?
Generally, the most optimal dps option for ranger is an archer with archery fighting style and sharpshooter. This tends to do the best damage, keeps your out of melee, and leaves your bonus action open for hunters mark or other options.
BUT do what you want! Two weapon fighting isn't bad. You can probably find items to complement your playstyle.
Playing over the next few weeks?… I’m going to be an act one for the next few months.! 😁👍
But thanks for the tips here, I was planning to get three levels in ranger for gloom stalker, and then start dipping into monk for shadow step at level six… But I may hold off now until I hit level five with the Ranger before dipping into Monk. I just want shadow steps soon as possible for my gloom, stalker ranger ninja build I have in my head and so the sooner the better but at the same time to your point… It’s probably not worth missing out on an extra attack that you get a level5 .
So I may take your advice here and wait a little bit.
will you be doing build videos like dos2 ?
Yes but want to get starter guides done first
I’m wanting to go sorcerer, what are some good races to combine with the class?
Question... how is your starting gear on bard etc a suit of chainmail? For me in game it's a hideous cloth coat or something. Actually, all your characters have chainmail in character selection it seems. Is there an option I'm missing that lets us pick our armor?
he`s githyanki, they get armor proficiency for free. (no matter what class)
@@R3I3ELLI0N Ahh thanks, didn't realize.
Multiclass rogue into barbarian for reckless attack and bear rage, very silly and effective!
Thanks for the video
advising long rests after 1 or 2 encounters seems really overkill honestly. I think only once have I had to long rest after 1 combat and only a few after 2. Short Rests after a combat are more than sufficient if your party doesnt suck
Any chance of a Multiclass tips guide for some of the more popular multiclass options?
Just published a multi class video
Oh I should be resting way more. I’ve not been doing it because I assume events happen after I rest like the grove ritual.
We start a new group, 4 brand new players with a bit of D&D background.
Not overcomplicating things but do you think the following setup would be somewhat viable?
Fighter Battlemaster
Warlock Fiend
Ranger Hunter
Cleric Life
Sounds awesome
Can’t wait for this to drop on Xbox😁😎😃
I am going to be a scimitar + shield melee ranger maxing dex do you reccomend i use medium or light armor. Or even some combination (start medium and switch light after my dex maxxed)
still kinda bummed about the Sneak Attack nerf. Really hurts Rogues across the board since you cant use sneak attack on your bonus action attack if youre dual wielding, and you cant sneak attack on Opportunity attacks.
Can't wait for the multiclass vid I'm new to d&d and crpg's and I really wanna multiclass warlock/paladin but have no idea the best way to go about it!
The only difference between elf and half elf is which weapon do they master better? that's all?
What’s the most fun class for human or half-elf? Does not need to be OP
when do the build guides go online ?
Hey Fextralife. Help me make a necromancer in this game! I want my next play through to be evil, and I’d love to create a Red Wizard of Thay like character that actually works thematically. Just a suggestion ❤
I like ritual caster at level 4 on wizard for find familiar and speak with animals
I am currently thinking about what race is the best if i decide to try some other class mid-playthrough. Does anyone know if i can also rearrange my Attribute points into wisdom, Charisma, etc. when using withers reset mechanic? In that case the race choice would be quite unimportant. If its not the case githyanki would be the most flexible choice i guess
yes you can change stat points when respecing class
Yes
I asked this question yesterday in a stream since I'm a DnD noob. Like the others said ( and the answer I got ) is that what's fun in this game is that you can respect your points to suit your class with any races you want. The only thing you can look at is the race bonuses and which one you like the most. Oh, and of course which race you choose will make the world react to you differently.
Hi, my character died and I chose to collect him in the dialogue option at Withers. Now I can't use a party of four, only a party of three.
Someone please help me. I want to fix this issue.
Your main character died? Any allied that are revived and out of your party are at camp
