The Beach Boys' vocal harmonies are still second to none. Just amazing talent!
Led by musical genius, Brian Wilson, The Beach Boys, are arguably the greatest and most important American band ever.
Their greatest hit and most important song is "Good Vibrations". others include: "God Only Knows", "Darlin'", I Get Around", "Sloop John B", "Help Me, Rhonda", "Wouldn't It Be Nice", "Little Deuce Coupe", "In My Room", "Little Surfer Girl".
Also their "surf songs"
"Surfin' U.S A.", "Catch A Wave", "California Girls".
When I started to hear them on the radio in the early '60s, I wanted nothing more nor less than to be able to play their music myself - much the way I feel when I listen to the Grateful Dead or Handel's Messiah or a late Mozart piano concerto. I bought a guitar, but needless to say, after 60 years I still can't come anywhere close to reproducing their wonderful sound. Marvelous music.
England had the Beatles ; America had the Beach Boys. Explore their music, it'll melt you .

The Beach Boys are the quintessential harmony group and started out doing "Surf" music and being the voice of the surfing craze and then got into fast cars and moved on and on from there.

Imagine a teenage girl hearing this song in the 1960s. It was all about love and caring. Another song youll enjoy of theirs is "In My Room".
It's about a boyfriend who's bragged too much about his hot rod car and is about to risk his life in a drag race just to impress his guy friends. He assures her that her love will keep him safe.
It's deeper and darker than the music sounds like.

Welcome to the world of the Beach Boys. The best group of recording artists of all time imo. They started out in 1961 and are still going today (albeit in two factions: Mike Love's tour band the Beach Boys and the Brian Wilson band). Of the hundreds of songs they have released crossing several genres and decades, you are certain to love 'God Only Knows' and 'Good Vibrations' just for starters 👐

The vocal harmonies in this song are some of the best in the entire history of pop music. This song and "Catch a Wave" are the best of the best harmonies.

I grew up in Southern California. My best friend and I cut classes (college) and went to the beach. To our surprise The Beach Boys were there performing!

I used to listen to The Beach Boys on tape in my car stereo when I was a young fella. The music was 20 years old then, but still made for great listening. Glad you enjoyed this song!

Their fame was kind of overwhelmed by the arrival of the Beatles and the British Wave of the mid-60s. The harmonies, oh yes! You can't surpass familial harmony - brothers and cousins (and friends)! If you like this, listen to "God Only Knows", which Sir Paul McCartney declared the greatest love son ever. Loving your channel.
check out susan cowsill's version of this song!! her brother john cowsill, who is married to vicki peterson of the bangles, had been the beach boys drummer for over 20 years until recently! both susan & john were in the band the cowsills, who had hits with, 'the rain the park & other things', 'hair' & 'indian lake', which was one of brian wilson's favourite songs!!! the cowsills are still performing today as a trio, as some of the members are dead!!!

susan cowsill does a great job with this song too!! she has links with the beach boys as her brother john was their drummer for 20 years up until recently!! susan & john were both part of the cowsills family group which had hits with, 'the rain, the park & other things', 'hair', & 'indian lake', which was one of brian wilson's favourite songs!!
I don't have to imagine, this was part of the music I grew up with, like the title of a program they were "Happy Days!"

Best of all--------ALL of life, was ahead of me . The Beach Boys and the Beatles competed with each other for more inventive melodies and harmonies. The main writer and arranger, Brian Wilson, is a true musical genius, one of the finest songwriters in rock'n'roll history. But suffered with mental illness, as geniuses often do.
No one else ever did harmonies like The Beach Boys. Brian Wilson really is a genius.

Beach Boys and Chicago are my favorite bands from my teenage years! Loved their music and still love it. I actually got to see the Beach Boys last summer at Wild Adventures in Valdosta GA. ❤

That's my favorite early Beach Boys song, and it always makes me cry because no one's ever said that to me. Little Deuce Coupe is another early, early favorite.

I seriously love them. Went through my Beach Boys faze when I was 10......fell in love with their music and have loved it ever since. Brian Wilson is a genius. The musicians who actually cut on the record were the Wrecking Crew....if you don't know who they are LOOK THEM UP. The film about them is floating around youtube. They recording on every major act's albums for 20 years. Sinatra? Covered. Beach Boys? Covered. Jan and Dean? Yep. Dean Martin? Yep. on and on.
The 50s through the 70s had great groups. My favorites were the 4 Seasons, the Moody Blues and the Beach Boys and everything from Motown Records (too many groups to list here!!!)❤❤

Fantastic song. Explore their albums. There are many gems that most people have never heard. Capitol Records didn't promote them because they only wanted surfin and car songs.

Second only to the Beatles. How I miss their genius! They, for too short a time pushed the music envelope. Both groups inspired many of the modern genres of the music we now call rock and roll.
Brian Wilson is a genius. Period. I'd recommend God Only Knows, Sloop John B, In My Room, Good Vibrations, Feel Flows and Sail On Sailor to name but a few.
Brian Wilson made good use of Phil Spector's wall of sound for this record.

Even in my 50s I test out my range against this group. Aside from that - and against some stiff competition from their own back catalogue - this is one of my favourites.

Brian Wilson, the musical genius behind the beach boys music, was obsessed with a new song that just hit the charts. it was by producer Phil Spector, and contained Phil's signature WALL OF SOUND that Brian was so enamored with. The song was BE MY BABY, by the Ronettes and it was #1. Brian's wife Marilyn, knowing the depth of his musical talent, simply told him. "don't worry Baby".

Brian Wilson was probably one of not the greatest musical genius of the rock era in terms of musical composition, harmony, originality etc.
And all during the time Brian was making this ecstatic and sublime music he was being beaten
and abused by his whack job father. Beauty comes from the strangest places.
Sad that they had an abusive father…..their song In My Room reflected their song to their bedroom to escape.
