This song just totally wraps itself around your soul, in a surprising and almost magical way, once you give it a full focused listen - to the point that after a few listens you find that you can no longer remember what the first listen was like, it becomes embedded and you feel you have always known the song like a favorite old friend

Hey, guys! "Pet Sounds" is my all-time favorite album. It made growing up a little easier from the first time I heard it. Every human emotion I was experiencing is on display here. It's more than merely an album to me; it's a soundtrack to my life. I get emotional every time I listen to "I Guess I Just Wasn't Made For These Times" and "Caroline, No". Thank you. A+

Great job guys. The Beach Boys' harmonies were so good, so easy on the ears.

That's Mike Love on Alto Sax doing those fills and the intro. I got to see them twice touring with Chicago and many more times. The last time in 86 BB opened then Chicago did their set and then they combined to jam out with Mike joining the Chicago horn section. It was just incredible.

For some insight into where the Beach Boys harmonies came from, see the 5 min. video "The Four Freshmen on the BBC July 2012". Brian Wilson and Al Jardine of the Beach Boys tell the story of how they started out by copying The Freshmen harmonies note for note. (The Wilson brothers' father, and manager was a big fan). Then they talk to the 2012 incarnation of the Freshmen, who are aware of the connection. At one point the video segues between both groups singing the Beach Boys song "Surfer Girl".

From that long ago Spring of '66. Written by Brian Wilson & Tony Asher, arranged & produced by Brian, who is also on lead vocal. Mike Love is the bass voice---------Al Jardine is 2nd tenor, Carl Wilson is high baritone, & Dennis Wilson is middle baritone. This is the 1st song on " Pet Sounds", a classic album , arguably, one of the very berst, ever. ---------------------MJL, 77 y/o

Unfortunately, Mike Love continues to try and piggyback off of his genius to this day... but it's also worth noting that Dennis Wilson blossomed into a great songwriter in his own right by the end of the '60s. Carl Wilson and Al Jardine also offered occasional bangers in their catalogue as well.

There's a great 15-year-old video on TH-cam, "Behind The Sounds: Wouldn't It Be Nice", that goes in depth into who all the studio musicians were who played on this track, Brian Wilson's brilliance as an arranger, his perfectionism when it came to the vocals (brother Carl Wilson said they spent a full week working on them) ... you guys should check it out just for your own pleasure, I know you'll love it

Great reaction. Please wat the documentary “The Wrecking Crew” which is about a handful (20-30) studio musicians who played on hundreds of hits in the 60s which included The Beach Boys. All the musicians considered Brian Wilson a genius. The Wrecking Crew worked with The Beach Boys, the Mamas and the Papas, Sonny and Cher, The Righteous Brothers, The Byrds, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and many, many others. It would be a nice review . Thanks again.

When I was a very young girl in the early ‘60’s (ages 4-8 yrs old) we lived in Southern California and my brothers were young teens (13 & 14 ….) and they body-surfed at Newport Beach and this was THE “surfer music” at the time. I do vaguely recall hearing it because they liked it. I love it now!

Unfortunately, I can't afford to support anyone (I'm thinking of joining Patreon, as an artist to help) other than my daughter at the moment (some day!)... but I hope you have many people that join up! I have been in music (record store, dj... both college and pro) and have listened to thousands of albums and this absolutely ranks (along with "SMiLE") as a lock for TOP 25 albums of all-time. It's beautiful, and sunny, but also complex and dark sometimes. Brian Wilson was an INCREDIBLE talent. Hope you loved it as much as I did!! Cheers!

Hey guys! It has been a while since I have seen your TH-cam site. The Beach Boys in their later albums before Smile were really getting good. This was a big mature departure from the earlier, cheesier surfer themed stuff. There are a couple of videos called Behind the Music that go over all the production for another song on the Pet Sounds album called God Only Knows where Carl Wilson sings the lead. Brian Wilson ran the production and had a giant band of professional studio musicians to work with. It is cool to watch how they select and then layer all the instruments to put the song together and then lay the vocals on at the end. Amazing! Here's some trivia: the very last song on Neil Young's 1972 soundtrack album Journey Through the Past is the Beach Boys' Let's Go Away For a While. It is an instrumental piece that was also was track six on Pet Sounds. Guess Neil really liked it too.

The friendly rivalry between two musical geniuses named Brian Wilson (Beach Boys) and Paul McCartney (Beatles) was very real. Both had huge respect for the other, and in fact, Brian Wilson's Album "Pet Sounds" inspired the Beatles "Sgt. Pepper" album. You can hear The Beach Boys influence on a few different Beatles songs, such as "Back in the USSR," ""Get Back," and "Dear Prudence." Paul said his favorite Beach Boys song was "God only Knows." Just two great minds when it comes to music. Love them both.

Sometimes a film can ruin a song for you. This song is played in the documentary Roger & Me, in which a guy is talking about having a nervous breakdown, and the film montage is of the boarded up homes and abandonment in Flint Michigan after the auto plant closures. I can't get the joy of the song, because I always think of that scene. 😆

Well, now you need to hear their projected _Smile_ album. It would've been even better than this, IMO. Or at least Brian Wilson's finished version from 2004. I've actually created what I feel is a definitive version of the album from both combined recordings, which I ripped onto a blank CD.

Fun fact: the Beaches Boys were just one of many groups in the 60's that used a group of session musicians called the Wrecking Crew. Their bass guitarist, Carol Kaye, was one of the very few female musicians at the time. In her 65 year career, she is said to have contributed to an estimated 10,000 recordings.

    Grew-up with this music . . .
THIS track makes me think of YOU 2, when younger and getting to know each other, and HERE YOU ARE :). Very sweet lyrics, and of course those gorgeous harmonies . . . all those creative mechanisms in Brian Wilson's head, all that amazing "vision" that he could hear that no one else could. You guys MUST see the film *Love & Mercy* (2014), and where top session musicians were totally blown away by Brian's mind in what he could hear, compose and Produce to get that Wall of Sound.
I don't think I really appreciated what they accomplished until I was in my 20's, there was an early TV Movie about the group and their contentious relationship with the Wilson Brothers Father (who was their manager), and then Love & Mercy explained the genius of Brian (and his madness). His story is really heartbreaking.
Even the Beatles thought "Pet Sounds" was a brilliant album, and Brian had many comparisons to Producers "Phil Spector" and "Sir George Martin" who were the greats of the late 50's, 60's and (George) the 1970's.
