    Thanks for the video. I used your other video to cut my own hair and everyone have given me good comments. Thanks for sharing your knowledge on hair cutting.

    Thanks! I've noticed the differences in actual measurements vs. clipper guard numbers. This helps because I have been cutting my friend's hair due to some of the current restrictions. Your videos have great explanations and demonstrations.

    Thanks for the tips! I like your statement about deciding whether you want to style your hair and as such opt for a scissors cut on top. Also good to know about general rule for #3 for an average side cut.

    Hi Michael. Unrelated to this video. I have a suggestion for an improvement when cutting the top of your own hair with clippers. What I'm doing recently is just following your approach: comb it all forward (or natural direction), and trim the top from the crown going forward. However, before starting the cut from the crown with a #3, what I do is put on a #4 or #5 and trim all the hair in the back of my head, bottom up, and then all the way to the top of my head. Then I go on with the #3 from the crown, and then blend the sides.
    The idea is to trim down the longer hairs that may be growing on the top part of the back of the head to a reasonable length, without risking messing up the connection to the top of the head (since you are going to go over with a lower # on the top afterwards). I think hair there can get quite long/messy if all you do in the back/sides is the method of going vertically up with the clipper.
    Hope what I wrote makes sense, and also that it's useful for someone. Cheers.

      Guillermo that is actually brilliant. A really good suggestion. And so simple thank for sharing that to me. If I do another cutting the top video I'll include that

    Oh. Em. Gee... NOW I understand clipper guards!!!!!
    In fall 2020, I borrowed my friend's WAHL KM10 (she taught herself how to groom her mini Poodle🐩, been doing it - very successfully - for 3-4 years now). I was confused about the guards - what the numbers meant, plus this set they're colour-coded. I also have an old WAHL 9627 (no idea how old, I couldn't even tell you when/where or who I got it from lol!).
    First I used my friend's (can't recall which blade was on, it has a #10 and #30... ??) and following your videos, taking my time, I was THRILLED that I accomplished far more than I set out to - I'm still super proud of myself!!
    I had to return her clippers/etc 🙁 (was time for her to do her dog and her partner's hair lol - gotta love lockdown 🙄) so I just charged my cheapo clippers and did some maintenance after that. Mine only has what I can describe as two "multi guards" (here's a link: www.newegg.ca/wahl-haircut-kits-clippers/p/N82E16882701001 ). The guard numbers are on the actual clippers, so you pop on one of the plastic multi guards and adjust the spacing on the clippers.
    Now, while I still don't completely understand MY cheapo clippers' numbers, like if they correlate to normal guards, but I TOTALLY understand clipper guards now. YAY!!!!! 🎉
    (Now I just need to figure out a *proper* set of clippers for myself so I don't have to keep bugging my friend 😋)
    Thank you for this video Michael!!
    Cheers ❄️✂️🇨🇦

      That looks like a good simple system. I've used a beard trimmer in the past with a similar type of guard. I honestly don't know why they aren't just universal. The main thing is that you set the right distance from the head. As long as you know what length to go for. But Dawg you are getting quite seasoned at this now.

    Many thanks Michael, very informative!
    Can I suggest that in your future videos you quote mm lengths rather than guard Nos. to help with some of us who are likely using other-brand clippers - particularly in your videos associated with fades where the lengths I assume become much more critical.
    Cheers.

    Be interesting to watch you cut hair using an old Flowbee haircutting system and get your opinions on it.

    • @theoneminutebarber
      @theoneminutebarber  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Those flowbees should have been issued to everyone along with furlough pay, they would have been a life saver. Not the best haircut admittedly but way better than nothing.

    What about a single comb that slides up and down for different lengths. For example Philips 3000 series hair clipper. How good is using a single comb with adjustable length as opposed to using combs of different sizes?

    • @theoneminutebarber
      @theoneminutebarber  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ranjeet that's a good question. I don't know if there is any specific benefit between the two systems. I think in a professional setting it's probably easier to clean the tools between clients when the guard can be easily removed. The main thing is that you asertain the correct distance from the scalp.

    Which detailer is the best? Gamma or Andis' Slim Line?

    • @theoneminutebarber
      @theoneminutebarber  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's a good question. It depends on what you want. I use a slimline D8 which is capable of cutting lots of hair due to the deep teeth, but Andis t outliners for sharp lines as the blade is really tight and set close.
      The gamma absolute hitters should be comparable to the t outliner I'd say but I've not used them yet.

    Hi Michael, watched pretty much all your self-barbering videos now, bit the bullet and had a go.... Well well chuffed with the results, so thank you for all the time! Question re guards... My clippers have a 'thinning' guard with them.... How do i use that? Thanks again!!

    • @theoneminutebarber
      @theoneminutebarber  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      James that's a new one on me. I've never seen a thinning gaurd before. But if you go with the grain it will thin the hair out anyway. But good to hear it worked for you well done for giving it a go. 🙌🙌

      @@theoneminutebarber Your channel is awesome by the way. Currently on a ship where people are have the buzz cuts all over..with some shocking results. Off topic but I gave myself another haircut yesterday. There seems to be a spot if your looking down on the head, 7 o'clock position that always seems to end up longer even when using the clippers. No idea what I'm doing wrong. Also, I did clipper over comb (love it) but I can't remember if you explained using your fingers to keep the height/length consistent?

    • @theoneminutebarber
      @theoneminutebarber  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You could potentially deal with that area by lifting sections like in this video. I'm guessing the route of the problem is your crown 👑. Most crowns cause the hair to go in different directions either side of the head and the crown itself is also often off centre. th-cam.com/video/fnCsEuXuwro/w-d-xo.html

    • @theoneminutebarber
      @theoneminutebarber  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The follicles (the hole the hair comes out of) can grow against eachother sometimes at the crown. This can also make it look like there is longer hair even though it should be a uniform length. Where the hair growth pattern hair can grow and stack against itself rather than lie flat and in the same direction on the rest of the head.

      @@theoneminutebarber I had an old world barber tell me I had 3 crowns; might explain things. I'll look at that video again.

    What's the lever on the side of clippers? What's it for?

    • @theoneminutebarber
      @theoneminutebarber  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The lever pushes the bottom blade forwards and back, when the blade is forward it's cuts the hair 1.5mm longer.
      Sometimes between the lower guards like #1 and #2 there can be a visible line left. By pushing the lever you can make a #1 into a #1.5
