Thank you for this super important video. Pyrantel Pamoate appears to be effective in 2 doses spread around 3 weeks apart. It's also the cheapest by far.
Prices of dewormer are outrageous here. When I lived in Malaysia with my cats it cost me only 5 ringgit's a month per cat. Soooo cheap! Vet care here in canada is ridiculously expensive! 😖
HEllo I take care of a ferral cat which lives outside by my office. I want to use the Safe guard dewormer liquid form(fenbendazole) sold for goats to use on this cat. Was going to put it in some wet cat food for her. you mentioned in the video you have to dose it multiple times? The cat is smaller under 10 pounds. I did read the back of the Amazon sold product and it says for a 25 pound goat to use 0.6ml...so maybe half of that dose to use on this cat since she is smaller...I just want to know if I need to give her a repeated dosage. I plan to buy the product and maybe there will be more instructions inside the packaging..all I could see was the back label that said 0.6ml for 25 pounder. thank you for the great video and for help with the pets and yes I know this fenbendazole does not treat tapeworms...I just wanted to give her the broad spectrum protection since she is a wild cat. thank u sterling
Why the hell do we need to go to a vet to get dewormers. With vet bills going thru the roof DUE TO THE ECONOMY, so many people are forgoing owning any pet and/or DUMPING their dogs and cats.
Or… some of us with a clowder or colony, truly can’t afford the vet costs and have endured more heartbreak over something so simple for next to no reason… Profiteering via Capitalism where health of life is concerned-same as they do with us, but on a far grander scale due to the social concioussness being where it’s at that animals are subhuman and thereby non-requisite for the basic rights we as humans, could afford to them with a blanket healthcare for all animals in general and the cost on an ability to pay basis for each animals net worth. Animal healthcare would be like Obamacare. Which is still working for us now. Still?…yup. Or we could do it free out of just sheer goodness; but this is us I’m talking to about-all of us in general: as stewards of this earth and wiry these god givens gifts and abilities singular to man, can’t we just give it back to the other species we share the space on this planet of earth.
Diatomaceous earth does work, and so does garlic. Vets tell you garlic is toxic, not true. I’ve had cats for many years and give them garlic drop’s during flea season.
@@Gemna157 do your research. My cats are healthy and living long lives. And no fleas or worms. It’s the harsh chemicals in the treatment that many vets recommend that is poisonous. One of my cats died at the care of a conventional veterinary, never again!!
@@OMJunkie Yes I do. Totally safe, I’ve had cat for over 20 years. The vet treatment can make cats very sick. One of my cats lost all his fur on the spot where it was administered
thank you for this great video! Could you talk about rotational feeding for cats? I really want to be feeding my cat different types of protein with wet food and would love to hear how your cats are able to try so many different foods without getting an upset stomach.
Can you do a video about brushing cats teeth? My 5 year old cat hates having her teeth brushed and my kitten just wants to lick/bite the brush. Would also love to know if the sticks and water additives actually work and are healthy/safe.
I was formerly of the mind that brushing cats' teeth is ridiculous. Now I'm not so sure. I just visited a vet today and she showed me how to wipe the plaque off the outside surfaces of the teeth. She collected a fair amount of yellow plaque from just one wipe on each side with minimal effort. I still figure that only a kitten is likely to tolerate a full brushing, but any cat can take a surface cleaning. It was quite impressive.
Drontal can be purchased without a prescription if you get the 50 pill bottle. Last time I bought it it was about $200, but if you have multiple cats it's well worth it.
9:44 Yep these people that keep saying to use d.e. for internal parasites it does not work! My cat doesnt have fleas but we live in apartments so its possible she picked one up and that's all it takes but no d.e. doesn't work people.
My cat's an indoor/outdoor cat and I've been using a monthly flea treatment which also treats roundworm, hookworm, ear mites, lungworm and prevention of heartworm. I'm in Australia, so I don't know if things are all that different, but I'm hoping this is a good basis. Thankfully she's never had any problems and I make sure I give it to her each month. Just wondering on your opinion on "over the counter", store bought type treatments like these? Thanks for all the education you keep bringing us!😊😺

@dare2music645 I've now found much more affordable options online. At the moment, I'm using a brand called Bravecto that lasts 3 months rather than having to do it every month. Have a look online, there's heaps of information, and any advice from friends or vet can help you choose a product that's right for your situation. Good luck with it!😊
@dare2music645 hi! These days, I'm getting products for this online as it's much more economical. I don't have a credit card (I always get into financial disasters when I get one), so I just ask my brother to use his, etc. I'm getting a brand called Bravecto which lasts 3 months rather than one. I've used it on my cat for about 6 months now, and all seems fine - she just hates having it administered (no change there!) I can imagine with 5 cats, it could be very expensive if you were buying it how I was originally. You'd be spending about $100 a month 😬, there are options out there. Hope this is some help even though I'm certainly not a vet!
I've never needed to deworm my cats. I'll call the vet's office this week and ask if it is something we should be doing. They've never needed it, they are indoor exclusively other than the catio we have built for them on our deck. This is important information to have and I will call the vets office and ask if this is something we should be doing.
It's not really "deworming" as it is a preventative and cautionary method. Even if they are indoor only, you can still bring in worms yourself (with your shoes for example). You also have a catio, as she mentioned worms can be transferred by bugs like mosquitos and etc. It is important to regularly give worm medicine to your pets, 4 times a year. More often if they eat raw food.
Food grade diatomeceous earth is probably the most sustainable option for most people IN THE ABSENSE of affordable vet care. Near me its 13 dollars in canadian tire
2:44 WARNING! Incase you want to use Safe-Guard Dewormer. I gave 3 gram pouches of the dewormer safeguard medication to my cat (he weighs about 12 lbs and was in the weight range on the label). It said to give your pet (dog) 1 pouch per day, for 3 days in a row. I gave my cat the last pouch on the third day and later on that night, my cat was in great pain for 10 minutes. He was "howl meowing" and was hiding in the back room of my home. He was panting a lot and I got so scared. My suggestion is DON'T use this for your CAT, just incase.
Best thing to do. I'm wondering, as we are so close with our cats, should we go to the doctor if our cat gets intestinal worms and which do/don't go from them to us. For example, I know we don't get the ear mites they do but humans get worms!

Please don't suggest diatomaceous earth. Not only do you have to give your poor cat DE for a month, the studies are mixed. Why wouldn't you just go and get actual science backed dewormer for like $5? Are you serious??
Hello! Please don’t do that. You are slightly right if cats inhale even a small amount it can cause various amounts of lung issues. Please just call a vet if you wish to be performing something like this. We won’t charge a phone call.
