I'm glad to hear your boxer has done what they are famous for; getting agreeably under your skin :-). They are like a loyal, comforting Labrador Retriever.
Awesome, awesome bike! My son came from Germany, and I wanted to book him a motorcycle so we could go riding on separate bikes. After he couldn't get the Harley he wanted due to the it needing an unscheduled visit to the repair shop because of... because of… wait for it!...an OIL LEAK...lol... SO, subsequently, he picked an R nine T Urban GS. 2nd Day we had it, I took it for a quick little spin when we stopped at the Salamonie Dam---he said he was having trouble keeping up with me on my old '97 Valkyrie (I ride a "bit" spirited, I guess...) Hmmmm, so I'm like, let's see what's up with this BMW Boxer... TWO SECONDS on the bike, I was like, "DAMN!! This thing is a HOOLIGAN BIKE!!" LOVED IT! 3RD DAY... Son was done riding it so MY TURN! I rode it all over Fort Wayne and decided, I MUST BUY ONE OF THESE. AND I WILL! Cool review, keep up the good content.
Hahahaha!!! Glad to hear, Joe. It is an amazing machine. Had mine since 2016 and probably will never get rid of it. If you end up getting one, enjoy! I know I am! 🏍
Are there hard bags and windshields available so it would be practical for long distance riding? Reminds me of my old R65 which was a great bike. Rode that coast to coast death valley to top of pikes peak.
I don't think BMW makes hard bags, but there is Hepco and Becker and GIVI that make hard cases (I think) On my bike, I installed a Pelican case as a top box and that worked well for my moto camping ventures.
Great review I love hearing from owners that have put some miles on their bikes much more valuable than a test ride review. Thanks! I am considering one of these for my next bike. As a side note I have a Ducati with 20,000 miles that has had zero issues.
Thank you! If you are considering one, I would highly recommend one. I just love my nine t. Best bike I've owned. As for the Ducati, I haven't had much problems with my Ducati. Just a little hiccup here and there. Glad to hear your Duc is behaving :)
I have no BMW bike experience. I've only owned Japanese machines. I have owned 5 BMW cars. One after the other. Not one issue arose in 9 to 10 yrs of ownership. That's 5 different model cars. I didn't need to use the warranty on any. No breakdowns, nothing. My Honda bikes have been the most reliable. My 98 VFR 800fi and my 2009 Fireblade were bulletproof. Again no issues at all. Having said that I would happily buy any BMW bike. Love where you live and the lifestyle you have over there Boris. Enjoying your vlogs man. Ride safe.
Thanks so much for watching and for the kind words. I believe that BMW (cars or bikes) were made with quality in mind and rarely ever go wrong, unless you really mistreat them and don't perform the proper maintenance.
Curious if you still your 2016 r nine t - how many miles on your bike now and how is the reliability? Any issues? Am asking because am looking to purchase a used one. Thanks.
Hey, late reply but I still have it. Still love it. It has 58k miles currently. Still running strong, no issues at all, besides a cracked exhaust, but that was a faulty weld. Not bad for 58K miles. Also, the dealer only had to adjust the valves once in the whole time I've owned it. As long as you maintain it like recommended, the bike should be great.
Enjoyed the vid mate, had my R9T for a few months and 1100 miles and so far seems nearly perfect. Had to put bar risers to make comfortable for me. Just waiting for crappy UK weather to improve in spring to get out there.
Is it weird, that I am from germany, seeking for quality long term reviews of a R NineT on an american channel?! I am happy, that you like the bike, also 1% proud 😂
Good luck on the move Boris! Love your content. To refer to an earlier episode, it doesn't suck. In fact, I enjoy your content more than any of the other current motovloggers. You are a top tier kind of person and that is reflected through your videos.
hey Boris, just a quick note from a long term R series lovers. My last R bike was a 2009 R1200R with the same engine you have. Great engines! But my R1200R had that silly looking little windshield up over the headlight. I was very shocked at how effective that was. Took all of the wind blast off the chest even at high speed, and just gave me a light breeze on my face. I just got back recently from almost 6 years in Germany, and I was going to buy the R nine T or nine T pure. But ran across a killer deal on a barely used 2016 1200R with all options. I couldn't pass it up. But you made mention of the wind blast at high speeds, (illegal high speed I think you put it lol). One of the things I had in mind if I got one, was there are several companies now that make a R90S cafe style fairing for them. Only slightly more windshield than I had on my 2009 1200R. I have seen one bike over in Germany that had one on it, and it looked awesome! When I spoke to the guy, he basically said the same thing about it. All the wind blast gone, and just a light breeze on the face. Might be something you want to look in to. Mounts on the fork tubes and headlight bracket. I've seen them in a very high dollar carbon fiber, and low dollar polycarbonate. If I did it, I would go with the polycarbonate in a gloss black. But that's just me. The cutouts on the side of the fairing are high enough that you don't have to lower your bars. Anyway. Good video. Hope to hear more about the adventures on your BMW. Bob back home in Nevada
Well.....I'm gonna miss all the San Diego stuff. I was hoping at one point you might have...may have...could have gone to the SD Sector Nine skate store. My nephew is part owner there, so, you know, family love. However...........we now get to see new beaches, roads, streets, and highway shenanigans, which is a good thing. So......vlog on, Boris! Can't wait for all new stuff to see with you!
Thanks man! Now that I know that your nephew is part owner, I might just drop by and tell them that Messkit sent me LOL! If they even know what that means.
I doubt they/he will. Heck, I haven't surfed since 1979 (.....what? scary story, no time now for it. let's just say it involved a damn big shark), and my nephew, likely, does not follow my riding lifestyle.
Boris on Bikes I have my sport classic that I bought from Copart with 13k miles. After I replaced a few damaged item on it I put about 5k miles in two month with zero issues. I know Ducati has a bad reputation on some of their models especially older ones but I am amazed at how trouble free my bike has been. That being said the RnineT was on my list of bikes to trade my 1978 BMW R80/7 which I loved. It's nice to see you enjoying you BMW, they are no doubt one of the most reliable and best packaged bikes out there. The price of admission is definitely worth every penny.
Ducati is a hit or miss. I have owned 4 Ducatis and 3 of them were not reliable at all. I currently have a Ducati 996 as a track bike and only thing that has gone wrong was the fuel line clips that attach to the gas tank got old and brittle after 17 years and cracked. I replaced the connections with aluminum ones and works like a charm right now. I'm overly happy with the BMW and did not expect this level of quality.
Hey Boris, great review and I couldn't agree more with your overall praise of this bike. I just put a full set of Ohlins suspension (cartridges front, shock rear) on mine this week and I can happily and highly recommend you consider this before going with an aftermarket exhaust. The difference is immediately noticeable. If nothing else, replace the rear shock first as imo the ome rear is very stiff and you'll immediately notice a more plusher ride. Happy trails and keep the shiny side up!
kavik27 Good bit of advice! Thanks! I'll look into it. I feel if I ride a nine T with Ohlins, I might cave and get a new rear shock and eventually the front cartridges.
I commute every day on my nine T. I do have a tail bag that works pretty well. On some camping trips, I custom mounted a pelican case to where the passenger seat goes and that worked very well! There are options for side cases if you want to go that route, or if you just want a bike that's already meant for luggage, the 1250 could be a better choice. Also, the nine T doesn't have cruise control or electronic adjustable suspension, so there's that also to keep in mind.
Working with my local BMW dealer on a 2017 RnineT Pure that was a demo bike. 1500 miles with full factory warranty for a killer price. I currently own a Yamaha FZ6 and have owned all Japanese bikes previous to that so I'm a little nervous about the cost of ownership and shorter service intervals compared to the FZ6 (26k valve check intervals!). Is that a legitimate concern? Do things like valve checks/adjustments, for example, cost an arm and a leg at the dealer? I simply have no experience with the boxer motor or the brand itself. Any insight you could provide me would be most appreciated. Subscribed.
I've seen that one and I wanted it so bad, but then I realized that it eliminates the passenger pegs so I wouldn't be able to give my GF a ride anymore :(
I think it all depends on your size. I am 5'8" and about 160 lbs. I don't feel like I'd need to replace it. However, my friend rode it and he's a giant and he would definitely need to replace the suspension in order to ride it properly.
So reliability aside, would you say you are enjoying this bike more than the Veloce? Im asking because of all the bikes i have ridden in the past, BMers tend to be the most ''numb'' a lot of owners have told me that they feel kinda cut-off from the action.
TheTommyKay No idea what BMW bikes they rode but my MV felt so uneventful. I got bored of it the first month of ownership and all the issues made me hate riding it. My BMW is the total opposite. Even with my 50 minute commute to work, I am sad to get off and stop riding it.
hey Boris. Can you or anyone else with a NineT tell me how they hold up to rain and crud? Because it's a naked bike is there any signs of corrosion on exposed parts and metal?
Peakrider Good question! I've ridden in the rain a few times and hit up a few dirt/ mud patches and so far it's holding up very well. I did notice very little bit of corrosion on the brake lines where it connects to the master cylinder but just slight discoloration. I'll have to go ask the dealer about those issues. Everything else is holding up perfectly!
I feel the same way about the exhaust. I want the beauty of the single sided swingarm to be visible and undecided which exhaust to go with. Do I get the "S" pipe for the high mount or do I got with a short can like the Competition Werkes GP slipon? How do you feel about this?
The S pipe does away with the passenger foot pegs, so up to you if you ride passengers or not. Personally, I like the look of the high mounted exhaust. The Competition Werkes GP slip on, to me, doesn't go with the bike. Messes up the lines and the flow of the bike. True, it's shorter and exposes the wheel, but I'm not a big fan of it's looks :(
Thanks for the quick response. I already eliminated the rear subframe and have the hump on the back. I was undecided on the look of the CW slip on. Love the high mount but I think that the Akrapovic can is a little too long. I have the Tidy tail kit under the hump and with the high mount exhaust, the exhaust would extend past the hump looking a bit odd to me. From pictures I've seen it looks like it would extend 3 to 4 inches past the hump. Unless there is a shorter muffler on the market that I just don't know about. I will keep my eyes open.
Nice to hear this bike has been the complete opposite of the MV, totally troublefree ownership! :) And S21s are great, I have had it for couple thousand miles now.
Definitely is a much better bike. And good to hear that the S21s are great! I saw a few reviews, even the one that Baron Von Grumble did in Abu Dhabi so I was hoping they will be a good fit for my riding style. (So far so good)
Good question. It actually doesn't feel any different than a wet clutch. No issues at all. Only thing that is a bit different is the shaft drive instead of a chain, but you get used to it super quick.
Hi Boris i am planing to buy a 2015 R Nine T with 25000 miles on it. Just wanted to know if you have and issues with the bike maintenance wise after posting this vlog i am assuming you must have reached or may be closing this range on this bike, and if you would be kind enough to let me know what should i be looking for when i but it? Thanks
Hi Jerry. Just make sure that all the maintenance has been performed on it. I have maintained mine since day 1, and as of yesterday, the bike has just about 42,000 miles on it. Still has never needed a valve adjustment. Always was in spec. It has been out of warranty since about 30k miles and has been a joy to ride. As long as you maintain it properly, these boxer motors are pretty much bulletproof. Only thing that you would not know about is how the previous owner rode it. Replacing the clutch is a pain and will be expensive, seeing how its in the middle of the damn engine, but other than that... best bike I've owned. reliability and overall function of the bike. It's done everything I've asked from it, from off-roading it, jumping it on moto camping trips, to riding track days and long, all day trips. Hope this helps you with your decision :) Safe riding!
I'd love to but here in Germany I'm limited to 48hp (reduced from 90hp max...) I need to make the next "level" license but I can do that in 2 years. Then I'll do it!
What is the type of drive. It doesn't look like a chain drive for sure. I'm a new biker. G 310 R. Some day I would like to upgrade to the R Nine T..! Also, do you think it will have overheating issues in a country like India and due to the fact that it is air cooled?
That is pretty good. Not riding like a jackass is easier said than done though, for me at least. I'm only getting about 30-35mpg on my ducati. I also noticed that you got the audio sounding good with the hero 5, what mic and audio settings are you using?
It's easier to ride normal on the Nine T. One of the reasons I got it :) I actually was having so much issues with the audio using the Hero 5 that I just went back to the Hero 3+ Black until I can get it just right. Sucks, because I really want to use it! Haha!
How’s this bike for a 1st time beginners bike and an everyday commuter ? Lookin to buy one for my first bike , learned how to ride on a dirtbike now looking for a street legal bike for better practice
I just bought my 2016 R9T from a BMW dealer in Las Vegas the first of November this year. - Mods so far done: Wunderlich bar risers, foot lowering pegs. Givi tank bag, Mustang Seat (single), NRC Rear fender eliminator kit, PUIG rear hugger fender, PUIG touring II windshield for the winter here in northern Utah. PUIG Windscreen for Fall Riding. - Exhaust Flapper-ectomy kit. Now I'd like to purchase a set of Bar end mirrors Do you have a suggestion of mirrors (which ones are on your bike) Also what mount are you using for your cell phone? Thanks
Very nice list of mods! The bar end mirrors I have are the Rizoma Reverse Retro mirrors. I like them very much. They used to swing upwards but after a few close calls almost taking people's mirrors off, I decided to turn them downwards. Looks cooler but vision sucks now lol Oh well, just turn your head of anything hahaha! I can't really suggest you any mirrors since we all have our preferences. Looks wise, and Rizoma mirrors are quality and look awesome.
When you did the valve check, how do you get the spark plug cover off without breaking it (like I just did on a camhead GS...derp). I don't mean the stick coil, but the plastic dust cover that is on top of the stick coil and and top of the valve cover.
Very carefully. I did it very carefully. Lol just kidding. I let the dealership check the valves while it was under warranty. If they break it, they fix it!
Boris on Bikes lol well that’s one way to do it. The valve check is very easy on these, aside from that stupid cover. Free is free but when you’re freebies run out, basic maintenance is really simple on these. Just get some decent quality torx bits.
Do you recommend it for a new biker? Of course with traction control on it , also do you know what are the differences between the 2016 and 2017 model ?
I honestly can't say yes or no to that question. It all depends how you feel on the bike. I mean, it is a 1200cc bike so it's definitely not a small bike LOL! I mean my first bike was a Yamaha R1 so I can't say NO, this is not a good first bike, but it is low and well balanced and comfy. As far as 2016 and 2017 difference, not too much. The '17 model has adjustable front forks, whereas the '16 does not. Also the gauge cluster is a bit different also, but other than that, they should be almost the same.
Thank you for the fast reply , I have put down the payment for a brand new one :) Yes they have front forks adjustable . I love the looks and i just want to keep it for as long as possible. Also I added the tank with out the weld. Thank you for the videos ! You got a new subscriber :D
It's made by Ram Mount. I saw that some people were having issues with the X grip from them so I decided to try out the iphone 6/7 cradle. use this: www.amazon.com/RAM-Mount-Cradle-Apple-iPhone/dp/B00NMVOW1W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1494253608&sr=8-1&keywords=ram+mount+cradle+iphone+6 with the normal rest of Ram Mount pieces to fit it onto the bike.
All depends how you ride it. If you ride in stop and go traffic, then due to heat it would consume more oil. (Since it's air/oil cooled) If you cruise constantly, it uses less. I sometimes have to add about a quarter to about half a quart between oil changes.
Boris on Bikes thanks man, appreciate your response. I'm coming for a 2014 Honda CB 1100, air cooled too. After 30k miles it has never burn any oil. I know I can't compare the ninet to Japanese bikes, but maintenance is always a concern. Thanks man.
I don't think there is a right and a wrong way to have your mirrors. If I put them the way you say, they stick out a bit too far and I have a greater chance of smacking someone's car mirror, so I put them inwards.
She sure is pretty, and way better luck for you lol. What exhaust are you scoping out? I saw an aftermarket Akrapovic that tucks up right by the seat and shows the swing arm, looks sexy as hell. (I think it was a single muffler)
mitsu3kgto Definitely better than my previous pile... I'm looking at the Akrapović single muffler with the carbon tip. Cleans up that side and opens the wheel up more. The one that goes up to the seat, removes the rear foot pegs and I can't have passengers then :(
I just brought an 9T its incredible - will pick up on Wednesday ...so excited - love your vids ! You helped me make a decision so thank you . How do you find your mirrors! Where did you. It then
hi a question from holland. i'm getting rid of my completely customized harley rocker. looks really good but after finishing the rebuild of the bike and spending too much money on parts and labour my "needs" on a bike seem to have changed. yeah sure the bike looms great and is a real head turner but it doesn't give a me smooth ride, comfort and an easy to use and ride bike. So i went for a test drive with the r nine t pure (because the scrambler wasnt available). loved the way it feels and handles but hate how it looks. i really like the scrambler and the r nine t like you own. i've watches tons of videos on the scrambler and the original nine t. i went for a testdrive on the scrambler but i really didn't like the off road tires and the stearing is really different. the dealer said it couls be caused by the type of tire. im up to speed with the technical differnce between the r nine t ans te svrambler but i'm still make up my mind about which model to chose. on the scrambler i like the style and the bigger front wheel but the seat seems less comfortable and the tachometer and gear indicator are missing if you ad these you get to the price of an r nine t. but the seat of the r nine t and the stance are not how i like them. so this is becomig a long story. any advice on your side on the models? thanka in advance! like this vlog has been helpfull for me.
Hey, I'm sorry for the late reply, but it sounds to me like you already made up your mind. The Regular Nine T is such a great bike. It's smooth, quick, torquey, looks beautiful and sounds awesome. The Scrambler might have handled differently because of the larger front wheel and the tires as well. I'm extremely happy with my Nine T and I don't regret my decision one bit! Good luck and I hope you make a decision that will make you happy.
I am going to get a my first bike, and of course R nine T. It's so classic!! I am in Stockholm, the brand new original R nine T is still available in my local dealer! Now there is a R nine T pure, is there any difference between the pure and the original R nine T??? I haven't check with my dealer yet...
There are slight differences between the lineup. Only the original R nine T has the same front forks and brakes off the S1000RR. The others have a smaller (and cheaper) front fork/brake setup. All depends what you're looking for. There are some other very small differences like the gauge cluster, traction control settings and ABS, but other than that, it's the same engine, same frame... I'm no expert, but I'm sure your local BMW dealer can tell you these things more accurately.
Hi Boris, thanks for wonderful video. Loved every bit of it. Simple and straight. I was sitting on the fence whether to but this bike or not. Your video certainly made me confident to go for it. this bike is indeed the best looking retro in the market today. Should be riding one shortly. Thank you mate 👍
Hi Suresh! You're very welcome. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Currently my bike has 32,000 miles and counting. Still love it like it's day one and 0 miles. Let me know how you like it when you get yours! I'm excited to hear what you think. :)
I have done a few hundred miles on the nine T and it's fine. I even rode to a track day, camped out, rode the track and rode home all in one weekend. No problems.
Kristoe 0503 Exactly that. The simplest mod ever! Remove the screws, the top plate slips off, pull out the baffles, put plate back on, put screws back in and you're done!
I am very interested to buy one but i am not sure about the engine cause there is no water cooling. can you please tell me if the oil/air cooling system is good enough for long/ short distances...???
I've owned this bike since July of 2016. Currently I have over 33,000 miles on it and have had zero issues. It does burn a little bit of oil (1/2 quart between oil changes) but that's nothing. Also, it's dealer maintained and I still have yet to have to adjust the valves. Short and long distances aren't a problem. Neither is 115°F heat in Palm springs lol
Great bike the R Nine T has such a great presence. The boxer motor exhaust sounds nice with your mods. It's a simple elegant design. Thought you moved to HB - not quite ha!
+Curtis Pottorff Good question. The seat is not the most comfortable seat out there, but I’ve taken a few longer rides (3 hours or so) at a time and I haven’t had to complain too much. If you’re planning on doing super long trips on the Nine T, perhaps buy a comfort seat, but it’s pretty comfy from the factory, at least for me :)
I'm not sure, to be honest. It all depends how comfort you'd be on a heavier bike. It is a 1200cc and is pretty torquey, but it's definitely very smooth and easy to ride.
I appreciate the reply! I haven't sat on that one as of yet, neither have I rode it. However, I have been on the S1000R and it felt comfortable and not overly heavy, not sure how comparable they are. I just don't want to start with a Low powered bike and I'm not a huge fan of the alternatives so I'm kind of stuck. LOL
Hahaha, as long as you get some crash protection for those heads you'd be good. If the S1000R felt comfy and not too heavy, the nine T should be more comfortable and lower center of gravity makes it appear lighter.
I have a mv agusta 800 dragster RR I have rode it 5000 miles so far..all I can say is BAD ASS! it flies and handles like a slot car...not the greatest on the freeways but I didn't buy it for touring..a cruze control would be good too..other than that I like the attention it gets... it's a blast to ride and I never get tired of looking at it..
Jason Lopez I don’t personally own an R9T, but I will say straight up that 85 ft-lbs torque / 110 hp / 500lbs wet is too much if you’re new to street riding. There are skills that will carry over from dirt biking, but street riding is it’s own animal. I would do a smaller displacement craigslist bike, ride it for a year or two, then upgrade to something like this.
Sorry for the late reply. but you can get them anywhere online that sells Rizoma products. My mirrors are called "Rizoma Reverse Retro" mirrors. Just do a quick Google search and you should be able to find them. :)
I'd love to answer that question, but I have never ridden a Grom! Always wanted to try one, but I don't know anyone that owns one! I'm willing to bet that it's a little bit better than the Grom though ;)
Hello Boris-- I'm thinking of trading my '13 Guzzi Griso SE for a new R Nine T. Not that the Griso isn't good and fun- it is. Just wanting something different. The Griso has way more adjustable suspension than the Nine T front and rear, but maybe that's not a big deal. Should I pull the trigger? Nice video by the way- I know those roads you were on.
Best advice I can give you is to just go and try to ride one. If suspension settings is one thing that is holding you back, the new ones do come with adjustable suspension, unlike the previous years. Just see if a dealer can let you test ride one and make your decision :) I love mine and I just rolled over 17k miles on it. Still in love.
Boris on Bikes Thanks brother - I'm getting the test ride on the Pure on Monday. They offered me a great credit on my Griso- plus another 1K credit for "having a BMW car." Also looking at the Urban with the red seat. 99% sure, it's gonna get ✅ done.
Hi Tom! Welcome to the Boris gang and (par for the course) a late reply lol. She's not pricy to maintain at all. I was expecting the same but took mine in for her service and was pleasantly surprised by how affordable the maintenance cost was. Plus there are plenty of after market add ons you can buy so she will a lifetime companion. In comparison KTM is ridiculously expensive to maintain.
The garage door struggle is real! I broke down and bought a universal remote that fits in my jacket pocket. Chamberlain Model KLIK3U. 2 buttons so it works on our community gate as well.
I have the 2016 BMW R nineT Brushed Aluminium tank plus the single high Akrapovic exhaust with no baffle. Sounds great. I have issues with the foot pegs being in the way when stopped. Commuting everyday in Winter is ruining my bike tough - it's always looking messy and muddy. Yuk. I'm going to tour Southern England in the summer so I will post up some videos of mine then.
Wow, that area looks beautiful. I am happy that you're still happy with the bike, looks like a solid machine. I probably should go test one. On second thought, I probably shouldn't, because my wallet might be really light after. Also, get another fob and wire it to the high beams (or just keep it in your jacket pocket, so you can just tap the pocket).
NONo443 Yeah... don't go ride one unless you're ready to bring it home. Seriously, best bike I've ridden to date. And great idea about wiring up the fob to the high beam!! I may try that out!
Hello here from Taiwan.I love your channel.I am about to get a r9t recently but r9t scambler is almost $3500 cheaper than the original r9t here.I love both of them. The only reason that I might choose the original one is the big golden forks.what is your suggestion.thank you
To be honest, I have not ridden the Scrambler but I do know that the original Nine T comes with the same suspension and front brakes as the S1000RR and the S1000R. It has a gear indicator and in my opinion is more street friendly. The Scrambler seems to be a cool bike, but it was built in mind to be a little bit cheaper due to the cheaper and smaller front forks and brakes and a few small things like the cluster. It all boils down to what you prefer. See if you can test ride both and make your decision :)
:15 I used to do that. Then I bought an extra aftermarket button that I store in the breast pocket of my jacket. Makes it easy when getting back to the garage. Hit it, and ride in :)
I'm glad to hear your boxer has done what they are famous for; getting agreeably under your skin :-). They are like a loyal, comforting Labrador Retriever.
Yes, exactly! Perfect way of putting it. :)
I love my Lab Nine T
Boris we miss you come back. Why did you leave us!?
Are there hard bags and windshields available so it would be practical for long distance riding? Reminds me of my old R65 which was a great bike. Rode that coast to coast death valley to top of pikes peak.
I don't think BMW makes hard bags, but there is Hepco and Becker and GIVI that make hard cases (I think)
On my bike, I installed a Pelican case as a top box and that worked well for my moto camping ventures.
Thanks, so much for,the response. I’ll look into those options.
take note guys, 10:55, this is how you pronounce Akrapovic ;)
+Adam Krisztian Yes!! Hahaha
AHHHHH,CRAP!!!!!!......I feel like such a fool now!!!!!!
Adam Krisztian I don’t hit the accent like that but I thought that was a pretty basic word to pronounce lol
Except he cant pronounce aluminium 😂
Waiting for the dude with the 90,000 mile reviews.
Thank you! Really appreciate it :)
hey Boris, just a quick note from a long term R series lovers.
I don't know much about editing, but i really liked the Intro with the garage! Keep up the good work!
Thanks so much! :)
Love that little intro :D Keep it up boris. I'm glad you still like it as much as when you got it :D
Thanks Samuel! :)
Good to see a new V-log. Keep up the good stuff buddy.
David Smith Thank you good sir!
Then nevermind lol!
I was just about to ask where the drone footage was. I got to fly one, last week. Pretty cool little bit of kit. I want one, now.
The drone footage should pick back up soon, hopefully. I have a idea, I just need a friend to ride their bike so that I can record them.
Boris on Bikes Find a place to ride on the beach and set the Phantom to follow you.
Sounds like a plan. I'll be looking for a place soon :)
Sir,what is your height?
Way late reply, but I am 5'7" (170cm)
Still my absolute favourite bike! See a few of them in London, it's beautiful.
Nice!! Mine too :) I just love it!
What happened to MV Augusta bike?
Noticed you ride Triumph bobber now.How would you compare both since you had both or still have the bobber.Thank you
I’m riding a 2015 Classic and like you, I too am really satisfied with my choice. Nice review, thanks for your thoughts.
What mirrors do you have on your bike? Thinking of putting them on a Aprilia 1100 r
Beautiful video AS usual Boris...the new place is looking 👌
Anandhukesav thank you! :)
would you suggest a 3-4 yo with 8-9 kmiles on it as a first bike? Not to learn (have a license already) but for gaining skills, commuting etc thx
Could I learn to ride on this bike? I’m not going the buy small/cheap and then upgrade route.
Well if you ever make it to NZ then hit me up and you can take mine for a spin and I'll show you some of my local roads.
One of my wishes is to go to New Zealand. If I ever do find myself there, I'll look for this comment and hit you up haha!
R ninet vs the new R1250R?
To commute everyday what about the luggage? Side bags or top case for the ninet? Thanks in advance for your help
Subscribed.
the high mount akrapovic is in your future...i can feel it. it looks incredible, sounds incredible, and reveals that tasty swingarm!
I've seen that one and I wanted it so bad, but then I realized that it eliminates the passenger pegs so I wouldn't be able to give my GF a ride anymore :(
Just bought the same bike😆 what do you say about the rear shock absorber? Is it necessary to upgrade it?
I think it all depends on your size. I am 5'8" and about 160 lbs. I don't feel like I'd need to replace it.
However, my friend rode it and he's a giant and he would definitely need to replace the suspension in order to ride it properly.
I think r9ts and xdiavels are piece of art in motorcycles! 6k on my xds and loving it as you do. I would love to own an r9t for sure!
Keep going with the videos. Still one of my favorites to watch.
Thanks man! I'll do my best to keep you happy :)
I am glad you are happy with this bike. You had so much trouble with the other one, I think you were due for a "Love".
Stay safe.
Thanks, i definitely will :)
How does it compare to the scrambler I thought that bike was very uncomfortable after only 30 miles with a passenger
Didn't realize you guys had moved, congrats to Raven on getting her own store!!
TheFlyingGoat Yup. Had to move in order for her to excel in her career.
She's super stoked!
Sounds like it looks pretty propper so far! Good luck on the exhaust search. I've also heard that Remus has nice exhausts with a carbon tip. ;)
(So far so good)
I too watched his review and went for it, its a track worthy road tire so exactly what I wanted :)
Also decent in wet!
Hey Boris, how does the dry clutch feel vs. a wet clutch? Any problems with overheating in traffic or faster wear? Thanks.
Good question. It actually doesn't feel any different than a wet clutch. No issues at all. Only thing that is a bit different is the shaft drive instead of a chain, but you get used to it super quick.
Thanks. I've read that the shaft drive gives more immediate torque.
Hope this helps you with your decision :)
Safe riding!
@@BorisOnBikes
Thanks ;)
Excellent video Boris I'm glad you are son much happier with that one. The MV was just such a nightmare.
Thank you. I'm SO much happier but I guess less entertaining because who wants to watch a bike work properly? Hahaha!
I need this bike. I fell in love with it trough your channel. Nice vid!
If you think it's awesome to look at, you should try riding it! ;)
I'd love to but here in Germany I'm limited to 48hp (reduced from 90hp max...) I need to make the next "level" license but I can do that in 2 years. Then I'll do it!
Oh yeah, that's right... I keep forgetting the rules overseas. Here, there is no Learner's restrictions. If you can buy it, you can ride it.
What is the type of drive. It doesn't look like a chain drive for sure. I'm a new biker. G 310 R. Some day I would like to upgrade to the R Nine T..! Also, do you think it will have overheating issues in a country like India and due to the fact that it is air cooled?
Boris, you said the gas mileage was awesome, what are you averaging commuting on the highway?
About 50mpg on an average if I don't ride like a jackass LOL!
One of the reasons I got it :)
I actually was having so much issues with the audio using the Hero 5 that I just went back to the Hero 3+ Black until I can get it just right.
Sucks, because I really want to use it! Haha!
Bummer, I thought you found the secret sauce for the hero 5 audio! Oh well, hopefully there will be a solution before too long.
The movement sensor on my gate doesn't let me do that :(
Aww that sucks. :(
How’s this bike for a 1st time beginners bike and an everyday commuter ?
Looks cooler but vision sucks now lol
Oh well, just turn your head of anything hahaha! I can't really suggest you any mirrors since we all have our preferences. Looks wise, and Rizoma mirrors are quality and look awesome.
I've been looking for an endorsement for the Rizoma mirrors. Just placed my order, Thanks
No worries! Hope you enjoy them :)
OH, my phone holder is made by Ram Mount. The cradle of phone specific.
Very cool, congrats!! I'm sure you will love every minute of being on that bike. I know I do! :)
Thanks for the sub and I'm glad you enjoy the vids!
which phone mount is that? Do you like it?
It's made by Ram Mount. I saw that some people were having issues with the X grip from them so I decided to try out the iphone 6/7 cradle.
use this: www.amazon.com/RAM-Mount-Cradle-Apple-iPhone/dp/B00NMVOW1W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1494253608&sr=8-1&keywords=ram+mount+cradle+iphone+6
with the normal rest of Ram Mount pieces to fit it onto the bike.
hey man, I'm about to pull the trigger on the Scrambler model. What can you say about oil consumption between oil changes? cheers from LA man
All depends how you ride it. If you ride in stop and go traffic, then due to heat it would consume more oil. (Since it's air/oil cooled)
If you cruise constantly, it uses less.
Thanks man.
No problem! :)
What mirrors do you have fitted Boris?
Those are the Rizoma reverse Retro mirrors.
Are your mirrors on the wrong sides? Seems like the rounded edge should be on the outside, no?
It then
You're one of my favorite motovloggers, you keep making me antsy to get working on my 1200 streetfighter.
Thanks so much! Get to work! LOL!
Thx for the upload. Awesome as always! 👌
Thanks for watching! ;)
Looks like Wall E is holding on to the front staring at you.
hi a question from holland. i'm getting rid of my completely customized harley rocker. looks really good but after finishing the rebuild of the bike and spending too much money on parts and labour my "needs" on a bike seem to have changed. yeah sure the bike looms great and is a real head turner but it doesn't give a me smooth ride, comfort and an easy to use and ride bike.
Hi Boris, i wanted to ask about the steering bar. Is it an after market one or is it OME? Thanks.
+Irini Siganou The bars are factory OEM BMW. Same bars that the put on the BMW GS 1200 bikes.
There is a very slight change in the front end geometry too. A little more trail I believe.
:)
I'm going to test ride one soon! Thanks for the review though!
Nice! I'm sure you will love it.
And thank you for watching!
Can you tell me the diffrence 800dav and 9t,thank you!if200miles one day, ninet will be too tired?
I have done a few hundred miles on the nine T and it's fine.
I even rode to a track day, camped out, rode the track and rode home all in one weekend. No problems.
thank you
Hey Boris!
How difficult was it to remove the baffles? Did you just undo those screws around the tip of the exhaust to remove them?
Thank you Boris
That bike is just so beautiful in my opinion and i'm really really thinking on buying one actually
If you're debating it, just go and ride it. 😉
There's a reason this is my fav bike out of the 10 bikes I've owned ing the past.
Very lost actually, i like the R nine T but i do like the new cb1000r and also the diavel.. i just can't choose hahaha
Great bike the R Nine T has such a great presence. The boxer motor exhaust sounds nice with your mods. It's a simple elegant design. Thought you moved to HB - not quite ha!
it's just under an hour to HB so close enough! LOL!
Just went there last night for the bike night up there :)
How easy, or difficult is it to bottom out the forks?
I weigh 250 lbs.
I'm not too sure. I weigh 150 and I haven't noticed them out.
Are you able to to do power wheelies in 1st and 2nd? if yes, im buying it this summer. thx lol
Oh yeah. 1200cc with direct shaft drive will do power wheelies no problem!
Thanks, got the pure already. Loving it.
Hey Boris. love your blogs. I too have a 2016 R9T and love it and agree with you on all points.
TX2NJ Thank you!
Do you get saddle sore after long rides? The Nine T is pretty much my dream bike as well...WANT!
Would it be good for a new rider? I'm not worried about wrecking it. I'm a huge BMW fan, cars and bikes. So I'm not much interested in anything else.
Ya for sure I found some covers by Wunderlich that should do the trick. I'm glad to hear it seems lighter. Thank you for the info!
Do you think I should sell my bike for an mv agusta?
Zim Killgore Totally. They are great bikes and worry free! They're totally known for impeccable build quality and being mellow tempered.
Zim Killgore I've never heard of anyone having a bad experience with MV. Super reliable, super cheap. Total opposite of BMW.
Zim Killgore If you want content for your channel, yes lol!
hahaha!
Hi. Would you recommend the RNineT for a new rider? I've ridden off road and now looking to make the move to street riding. Thanks!
Boris, Where can I purchase mirrors like yours, I own a BMW R1200R 2015
Sorry for the late reply. but you can get them anywhere online that sells Rizoma products.
My mirrors are called "Rizoma Reverse Retro" mirrors. Just do a quick Google search and you should be able to find them. :)
What mirrors you've got?
They are Rizoma Reverse retro mirrors.
Subbed that editing is on point
Thanks so much, Scott! :)
Is it a good as a grom ? . Nice vid and reflection , the bike suits you
I'd love to answer that question, but I have never ridden a Grom!
Just see if a dealer can let you test ride one and make your decision :)
I love mine and I just rolled over 17k miles on it.
Very nice and pleasing video ! I was just wondering how tall you are. I am a bit concerned about mine (6'1) and the low seat of the NineT...
Thank you. I am 5'8 and it fits me perfectly.
Your observation about the loose switchgear ... I agree. It’s the same on my 2019 R1250! Annoying (they cannot he tightened )
How about gas mileage?
Beautiful area & nice to hear your thoughts.
+Vegas Gurl Thank you! 😬
are you gonna do a exhaust change?
+niels ten boom Eventually, once I'm not broke I'll get the single pipe Akrapović
i love your vids man, i look forward to the exhaust
Question..... is maintenance expensive being as it’s a bmw motorcycle? Like oil change on a m3 price?
Does it come with quickshifter?
+Jacky Wong Sadly, no it does not :(
Boris on Bikes dang it
Excellent Review!! Thank you!
What bar end mirrors did you instal? They are very cool!
Thanks!! I have the Rizoma Reverse Retro mirrors. :)
I love the mirrors, what ones are they?
Thanks! They are the Rizoma Reverse Retro mirrors
Very nice mirrors man
@@BorisOnBikes Did you have to get a special adapter for them? If so do you recall which one it was? I just got an R NINE T. LUV it
I didn't use any adapters. Just whatever came in the box, worked!
And congrats!!!
Do you plan on buying another bike anytime in the future?
If I had the money, I definitely would buy LOTS of other bikes to fill my garage :)
Love the R9-T, and welcome to north county 👌
Thanks man! It's nice up here!
The garage door struggle is real! I broke down and bought a universal remote that fits in my jacket pocket. Chamberlain Model KLIK3U. 2 buttons so it works on our community gate as well.
I will be sure to look it up and hopefully buy one to keep in my pocket :)
Neil Smith That is awesome! ( the trip. Not the dirty bike) hahaha!
I'll be looking forward to your vids. :)
How about the seat, I hear it's quite uncomfortable?
What are your thoughts on the Seat's comfortability?
Boris on Bikes thank you! Just ordered my rninet yesterday!it is a wonderful bike.
:15 I used to do that. Then I bought an extra aftermarket button that I store in the breast pocket of my jacket. Makes it easy when getting back to the garage. Hit it, and ride in :)
