Instant power response ? Definitely not, until the valve opens the two strokes have literally no power which means very little power on low rpms. Feeling is similar to turbo spool.
I like how the Bimota's front end raises higher and higher as the RPM'S climb! The Suter MMX500 is a definite "ass-skinner" as well! Cool video, thanks man!
@@GrrMeister actually some two strokers can sound like 4 stroke in higher rpm, my gt 185 with some exhaust modification sounds like 360 degree twin cyl 4 stroke bike.
My only 2 stroke motorcycle is a 76 Suzuki GT500, it's not in the power league of the bikes here, but it's still fun to ride with the "burble and ring" 2 stroke soundtrack even just riding around in my neighborhood, always puts a smile on my face, it really takes me back to my youth when I first started riding, and 2 strokes were everywhere. I wish I'd bought an RG500 in the early 80's and then had the foresight to keep it. It's a shame no one has harnessed the modern 2 stroke outboard motor technology into a motorcycle to build a modern day direct injection 2 stroke motorcycle along the lines of what Bimota tried to do, but failed to deliver. BRP (Bombardier), owners of Evinrude outboards should produce a motorcycle.

Apparently the big issue with the Bimota was that they sub contracted the production engine barrels and crank cases out to a scooter engine maker, the sub contractor did not follow the specs and the quality control was bad, the press bikes that had 100% Bimota made engines where good, but the production models where not.
Actually that engine maker was Franco Morini Motori (not to be confused with Moto Morini, although the founders were relatives). It was an excellent engine maker in the 50 cc category, but they did a disaster with the Bimota engine. They doomed also the Benelli Tornado 900 - early triple engines were built by them.
The Aprilia RS250 used an RGV motor but the very last version of the RGV from 1996 was the best 2 - stroke of the lot, it made 70bhp standard and that motor was not used in the RS Aprilia. The original Yamaha TZR250 from the 80's was the most reliable 2 - stroke that could clock up to 40,000 miles without a rebuild. The RD350LC and YPVS are the quintessential and most popular 2 - strokes of all time. The Bimota and MMX probably sold a dozen bikes so can't really be classed as the best production bikes.
I just finished my 50cc two stroke "bike" and it's really fun to ride. Even though it's just a 50cc single cylinder it's really fun. Can't wait to start riding real motorcycles. I'm now 17 so I have to wait at least a year to go above 50cc...

All these 2 strokes smoke, I'm making a 2 stroke that shouldn't smoke, I use 4 stroke rings, carby, I use a reed valve, My engine has a 4 stroke bottom end with oil in the sump. My engine is nearly finished so I hope that it works like I think that it will.
I love those big 2 strokes! In the US we got screwed out of The RG500, YZR500, and all Aprilia. The peaky powerband is the best part. If I could only figure out how to cool an Evinrude V8 marine engine, I have 2 Mustangs I would love to put that in!

When it comes to reliability 2 strokes are more simple and because of that less things will break in it’s life time. 4 strokes are more reliable but are also more complex, and because of that more things will break in its life time. 2 strokes are way easier to work on, so it’s really up to you.
Really great vid. Only one mistake I could see: The Aprilia RS250 definitely doesn't have 73hp lol. But great bikes, and although some others were not included, it was a short list. Still a nice vid.

Ahh 2 strokes the sight sound & smell of my misspent youth, I never had the Honda but I had all the Suzuki GT range & almost every Yamaha RD both AC & LC, but my favourite was the RG Gamma500 mine has a "Nitrous" bottle where the passenger would sit but I'm not going to have one of those ever, it's always just the 2 of us, I'm currently taking lots of money from "LitreBike" riders that cannot ride for Shit & I don't even need the gas. FYI the very first proper race replica was the RG250 a humble little bike that led the way for all those amazing bikes that we all know & love. I do believe that Bimota would have had more success if they had used a modded RG or RD engine, I can't think why they thought it would be a good idea to build their own when there were 3 of the big 4 that had some excellent engines to choose from.
But there is a large distance between turbo and 2t. The turbo engines got their max torque at low rpm and the two stroke at a freaking high rpm. But still 2stroke are very fun to drive :D
5 years I'm riding my Kawasaki KMX 125 - 1996 almost for a daily use. I fear the day it dies. There's no 2 strokes, not-off road only, anymore. Except customs and prototype.

@@Chris-cy3uq Maybe stock was nowhere near 73 , but any experienced tuner could easily make that w/ the usual mods ...Racing 250 s got up to 95 , if not higher . Video made error in listing Aprilia's weight so high . If I recall , they were about 220-230 lbs , not 340 .

The aftermarket managed to fix the issues. It's just too bad it wasn't in time to save the V-Due.

I'm lucky enough to own a kawasaki mach3 '71 and at the other end a Aprilia RS250 '95. Both very different machines, but so addictive.

My engine doesn't need a supercharger,or fan, it's really unusual no other 2 stroke is the same as mine, the main difference is how it's lubricated
