In collector edition, is strategy book written in full japanese or there is an english translation inside?
I do have a few questions about this game:
1)Do the monsters learn more skills as they level up?
2)Is there equip management for both humans and monsters?
3)Are there any branching ways in the story and on different skills characters can learn? On the later, I mean if there are skill trees or something like it.

No idea about a translation for the art book. I would assume that it’s all in Japanese, even for the Asian release

I preferred the pixel art style of the original and the traditional anime cutscenes of it's Grand Edition personally...
The LRG release was a must buy.

Deep into the PS4 version now I have to say I very much agree with the review... and can only add, that if you love a good and deep tactical RPG you are gonna LOVE Brigandine. The Artwork, for me as a fan of both fantasy and anime... is simply STELLAR!!! Some of the best artwork I have seen in any game, anime, manga or movie EVER! Gameplay is fun and addicting and I love the boardgame feel of the game very much. The only thing I absolutely LOATHE is the annoying Level-Up sound if more than 3 units level up at the same time! THAT IS PAIN! :D

He's a reviewer acknowledging that obtuse gameplay mechanics are a turn-off to a large swathe of his viewers. This is not a game for casual players and he's doing a great job steering them away. He's not promoting or marketing.

I loved the original game, every now and again I look for the grand edition in hopes that it will eventually get a western release and today I found out this game exists
The combat animations in the PS1 was what made it great. They removed the full attack animations for the Switch
It used Grand Edition as a base which had no long drawn out animations.

Wow, _Brigandine: Legend of Runersia_ sounds like a well-thought-out game. I'm currently playing my single-player RPG in _Valkyria Chronicles_ at the moment. I like the active/strategy RPG style they have going on. It's kinda like _Transistor_ in that respect. I feel that straight SRPGs are too intense for me. These hybrids are getting me into the genre.
Brigandine legend of forsena was one of the best! ☺️☺️ Seeing this on the switch is exciting!
Good art + soft fanservice = Worth
Awaiting my copy from Limited Run and I still own my copy of the first one on ps1. Luckily I held on to it because the price is extremely high now.

Me too! I played this game so much too when I was younger. I still have the physical copy with book and map! Never wanted to sell it even though I do not play it anymore.
I own the original as well, spent a good portion of my adolescence playing it...the Japan-exclusive Grand Edition is better, but it was a very solid strategy title with an intricate plot, deeply involved gameplay, and widely varying difficulty depending on which nation you chose to play as.
SwitchWatch yeah ifc. i even played it with retroarch until now on my switch. thats why its such big news for me😭😭😭so happy that they released it. i hope there will be a suikoden series or remastered on switch too.
i still play this game, maybe now 4k hours playtime

I’m a sucker for a good tactical RPG and I enjoyed what I played of the demo. Since it looked pretty deep I ordered LRG version since it wasn’t far off the digital price.

It was one of the best games for the PS1, especially it's Japan-exclusive Grand Edition (full English fan translation with dubbed cutscenes available free online if you'd like to check it out)...

Yep; I like playing this game a LOT specially evolving it's monster units; unlocking it's rare variant classes. I remembered attacking a nation with a Vampire Lord units and finished the game lol. Brigandine is might be better tactic turned base game if your not into a FF tactics.
Your final score seems low for a game of this level of depth and scale. Was imagining an 8 at least from what was said.

Just finished the game today using Holy Gustava Empire on normal mode
Storywise: Better than the PS1 (at least the Gustava is better, the moment I read the opening and reading the nations description, Gustava is the coolest, the other nation is just weird)
Gameplay: Mostly resemble the PS1, but with more rules. takes time to adapt, but it's so addicting, I play 12 hours straight just two days ago.
Monster & Knights: Mostly resemble PS1 too, but there are some changes
Battle Cutscene: There is no cutscene, but you can zoom in (the zoom is quite deep) and view the animation, voila, better animation at realtime and less time wasted
Quest: The quest kinda sucks. I think quest feature narration & dialog is what makes the PS1 really enjoyable and not boring, like a rest between battle. But there is no narration or dialog in runersia, except when a non-affiliated knight join our nation.
Conclusion: I play using my brother's switch, but I might buying secondhand switch just to play this game over and over again, the quest kinda sucks but overall it's great. As a fan of the PS1 Brigandine, I am not disappointed, Great Job Developers.
ps: I find that the ancient dragon moving animation is disturbing, I love it

On overall is this game really as good as brigandine GE back on ps1?
I was checking games for the switch before deciding to buy the console when I saw this one. Played Brigandine on PS1 and finished all including Zemeckis. That's how much I loved the game. This helped me decide on buying a switch.
I've been waiting for this game ☺ just ordered it & this review is a nice bonus on my excitement 👍
Try the demo, but this game is definitely for fans of this genre. Not casual players. Also very heavy on teaching you how to play. You can't jump straight into it.

This looks interesting but I have to say between FE Three Houses, Valkyria Chronicles 4 and soon Triangle Strategy it has some fierce competition as far as the SRPG genre goes
There is no battle animation..so sad now i cant turn it off like the forsena one

This game looks alot like Romance of the Three Kingdoms so if it's anything similar to that, it's an automatic buy for me.
This game kind of reminds me of DragonForce from the Sega Saturn which has definitely caught my interest

Fantasy and fan-service go hand in hand. It's fantasy. Not real. The different story arcs are amazing and definitely worth the purchase.

If you play Dragon Force on the Sega Saturn, this would be easy play. DF is way before Brigadine on the ps1. Brigadine ps1 game are now over $250. It was almost at the end of the ps1 era and probably forgotten in most cases. I'm glad they brought this game to modern time. I just wish Dragon Force would be available too. I played both and I prefer DF more on the story elements, active battle system, and hidden and unlockable character/story.
I gotta say the reason I'm subscribed here and listen to you guys is the fact that you guys haven't complained about fan service before this (from what I recall anyway). This sounds review is good but that spot stuck out like a sore thumb as it really doesn't really matter in a long run.
Sorry, I just hear complaining like that from so many sources I'd hate to see more of it here =w=

I personally didn’t feel they were complaining as much as calling attention to this t. I mean, when a distinguished individual like myself buys Panty Party, I know what I’m getting. Not so apparent here.
Normally I’d agree with you but he even pointed out that those were the writers words not his and he personally doesn’t have a problem with it.
I do think the words "sexualization of women" are a warning sign that someone's politics are getting into it, and it's unwelcome in this type of content. I don't go to video game reviews for exposure to anyone's ideology and I can tell from the pictures myself whether or not anybody's being sexualized. I agree with the above comment--it's a duff note and this nonsense needs to stop.

played the 1st on emu its good for me. then tried the demo on switch its missing the close up 3d animation view on unit when they attack in the 1st game. ill just w8 for sale

They originally cut the 3D animations way back in the Grand Edition of the original actually, because they looked like blocky garbage...they've been replaced with on-map battle animations of the sprites, which I honestly prefer. I'm convinced that they were only in the original because back then Sony had a policy of not licensing games for it's console that didn't show off their low polygon count "3D rendering capabilities"...

Yeah. I played the demo, and looking at this I'm right in thinking I can't take Rubino seriously. They really need to have the characters change not only their facial expressions but the body poses as well. It just looks too comical.
Also, after Fire Emblem: TH, having your main characters look so generic in battle is a bit disappointing.
Agreed, I read another review that the story is ok, nothing special. I hope that the character interactions are really good.

I loved the original, but I'll be waiting to get this until it goes on sale...the original later got a Japan-exclusive "Grand Edition" with fully animated cutscenes and up to 6 player hotseat play, and a full English fan translation including dubbed cutscenes is available. I'm hoping that this game gets similar treatment at some point via an update or affordable DLC expansion, but until it does it won't be worth the full $50 price tag for me sadly...

I’m not against the overly sexualized female of male characters of a game targeting those specific audiences. But mainstream Indy games need to know the world and culture their marketing heir games to.

The game is not really a upgrade and that’s why I bought it because I thought it would have more things then the 1st but sadly it does not. It’s very repetitive.. a small amount of classes even the dragons was a big disappointment

Sounds like this has a much better developed story than Fire Emblem: Three Houses (which I actually quite enjoyed, it's fair to say) but will not make the same kind of impact because it lacks a more "anime mainstream" presentation with a bigger budget for dialogue/cutscenes.

This just in, man discovers women in fact HAVE boobs and this offends him. Can you imagine the sheer HORROR he must feel when he goes to the local mall and sees women in tank tops, exposed midriffs and jean shorts! How DARE these women engage in such FANSERVICE for the eyes of passerbys. Some women even wear push up bras or tight leggings where the outline of their butt is clear to see! Such scandal! Do you think he approaches these women and scolds them for sexualizing themselves and demeaning women everywhere?

It’s a sequel to a cult classic, most people haven’t heard of, and it hugely demanding game, with deep lore and replay ability so I’m guessing some people will love it.
