I recently played FF Tactics, I don't think it holds up today. Maybe if they improve the UI. Better yet, just make FF Tactics 2 (not counting FF Tactics A2) & improve everything.
For the same reason they keep the Front Mission series, Chrono Series and Xenogears getting to modern platforms....they dont like money. Or in less nice words, they are stupid.
@@paradoxxor7770 Sadly agree. Played it on PSP and it is not bad -- just... outdated. Really wish I didn't feel that way as it was my favorite game on the PSP
2 good options that have come out recently in 2022 are - Triangle Strategy - Dark Deity Highly recommend both. Triangle strategy is close to final fantasy tactics and was made by the creaters of octopath traveler. Dark Deity is close to old school fire emblem games with some twists.
Brigandine: The legend of Runersia is a must have for any S-RPG fan for both switch & ps4 fans out there. There’s a demo out for the game which lets you transfer save data to the full game if I recall correctly.

Brigandine is a very fun game and I really enjoyed the story! It may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I really digged its features and it’s definitely different from the others in this list.

Totally agree. Some consider Xcom to be a western equivalent to Fire Emblem. Both series started around the same time (FE about a year earlier) and FE wasn't released to the west and both were pre-Internet so it's unlikely one series took inspiration from the other. Despite very different themes, in many respects they play quite similarly. Both series are excellent.
@@boltronics couldn’t have said it better myself! Yes Xcom and Final Fantasy Tactics were my first Srpgs instantly fell in love! Then I branched of into advance wars then FE. One of my favorite genres.
Same. I played the mobile version for several months, then bought langrisser 1&2 on the switch. Finished both games right to the end, and I don't do that very often as I get bored easy?

Thank you for the video! I researched more about several of these, and I am beyond excited to pick up the Banner Saga Trilogy! Another tactical RPG that I like quite a bit is Regalia: of Monarchs and Men. It has some nice exploration/adventuring elements that I found really fun. I played all 4 routes of Fire Emblem: 3 Houses, plus the DLC. And I thought XCOM2 was awesome!
@@akg2n yeah there's a class system but it's limited like OG fire emblem. like Pegasus Knight -> Falcon Knight and that's it. All the classes are basically french military roles. There's item drops too, some are stat increasing items like +5 dodge, hit, etc. Then you have Bread for Health and Wine for Morale.

I would most definitely add Mario and Rabbids Kingdom Battle. It is the most fun I've had playing a tactical RPG. I am also currently enjoying Fire Emblem Three Houses.
To be honest, I found it weird that they did have cowboy bebop Inna game where mechs are the focus, but since it's one of my top favorite animes, I certainly made use of them.

Not sure it even fits on this list, but if XCom 2 does, I'd say this sort of does as well - I really enjoyed Warhammer 40K Mechanicus, that one's definitely worth a look also.
I love Disgaea because of how over the top some mechanics are, like the electoral and voting system that you can actually use to make some wild permanent change to the rest of the game. And the dialogues are really hilarious sometimes
I like this video and now have a better idea which strategy games I'd enjoy play. However I found it hard to follow along, it was all said rather quickly. The names of each game pop up so quick too.
I love mercenary saga, the charcters are nice, its cost effective, decent replay value. The only problem i have is that the charcters dont get enough time to express themselves
It's just a shame that 2k always go for cheaper gaming carts like they do for their Switch games. As someone who doesn't have stellar wifi service, downloading Xcom 2 digitally is such a pain in the ass.
Had Fire Emblem 3 Houses but sold to a cousin after I beat 2/3 the houses (Blue Lions and Black Eagles), Banner of Maid played for little bit but I need to get back to playing again eventually. Mercenaries Saga, False Phoenix and Blaze I have as well and enjoy.

the disgaea series offers nearly endless content, i have over 400h hours in disgaea 5 and im still far from understanding every mechanic. there is also a special skill in disgaea which unlocks its true potentil after 1000 hours of playtime!

Brigandine's sequel was a shock, i didn't know it was released till a few days ago honestly, that is a must-pick. Other that that, i knew the others, but still nothing that really satisfy me.
Played them all except for Xcom since I didn't like the alien plot. My top SRPG games are Valkyria Chronicles 4, Brigandine, Disgaea 5, Fire Emblem and Banner of the Maid (though it takes a while to get used to their grammar)
Thank you for this, I've been having trouble remembering (and finding) where to obtain the Super Robot Wars series in physical copies. Being UK, import is the option, but I've always been a bit lacking on the luck side when trying to find them. I was even considering eBay! Also, that Gundam import.
@@SwitchWatch Some of the Shining Force games were literally just battle, battle, battle, with a little menu between each one and I'm sure people still call that an RPG. The battle gameplay of Mario+Rabbids is SRPG for sure.
Into the Breach feels like an RPG to me. Just because it doesn't have the conventional terms, like "exp" or "level up", doesn't disqualify it IMO. You progress, get stronger, make choices on how to progress, and that progression is a reward for winning battles.
At last, this one is mentionned! I guess it's probably much more popular on PC, still it is a gem of a game. Very different from manga-styled classic console tactical rpgs, but gripping atmosphere, deep gameplay, tough (not THAT tough, and you can play it "safe")and extremely rewarding. Awfully addictive too, be warned!
Fuck dud your making me want to redownload xcom 2 and play/beat it for a 3rd time cuz. I did not know about Super Robot was on the switch gotta grab that when i get paid
I really like tactical rpg games. But these new ones I dislike. They call them turn based, but they have team turns and arent the same. the battles loose something for me.

front mission 3 & 4 hopefully. i love how you can customize your mech based on foes salvaged parts. to me it’s kinda like monster hunter but tactical rpg and mech. lol
Tactical RPGs are called TRPG, NOT SRPG. They are NOT Simulations, as they are not city builders, dating sims, farming sims, power washing sims, they are not sims AT ALL. SRPG is what TRPG is called in Japan because Japanese people make less sense than we do (they eat shirako).

Yep! They’re only in Super Robot Wars T though. That’s one of the reasons I think it’s the best of the bunch
NGE is also there. Faye is good, but Asuka is better

I'm playing through Banner of the Maid now, and I'm completely in love at this point.
2 good options that have come out recently in 2022 are

Gosh... I've dropped about 300 hours on SD Gundam and still have stuff to unlock. By far my top TRPG on the system. Cheers mate!

I played the demo and couldn't stand the minuscule sized font. I was going blind trying to read the menus. Hard pass because of that

I like Langrisser, it may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but the mobile game I liked a lot so I bought the switch physical game.

Banner of the maid is a solid 8 game for me. It's 40~50 hours in content it's insane. I feel like it needs to have a sequel to truly fix its problems.

For games like Mechanicus there's also Age of Sigmar: Storm Ground, and Othercide

Valkyria Chronicles 1 is not “digital only,” it’s just not for the Switch. You can get it on PS3 and a remastered version for the PS4.
X-COM 2 Collection is one of my favorites. Occassional crashes and impossible to play on Ironman mode but I still like it.

The best game in terms of content. Got it in 2017 and have never beaten everything to this day

3 houses was awesome the first time through, and I wanted to play it again but all the monastery stuff was a bit much for subsequent playthroughs.
played 3 rouths of FE3H love them and i was suprised by dimitry i tought he was the most boring but once i started his route i love it so much .
Thank you for this, I've been having trouble remembering (and finding) where to obtain the Super Robot Wars series in physical copies. Being UK, import is the option, but I've always been a bit lacking on the luck side when trying to find them. I was even considering eBay!

@@SwitchWatch Some of the Shining Force games were literally just battle, battle, battle, with a little menu between each one and I'm sure people still call that an RPG. The battle gameplay of Mario+Rabbids is SRPG for sure.

Into the Breach feels like an RPG to me. Just because it doesn't have the conventional terms, like "exp" or "level up", doesn't disqualify it IMO. You progress, get stronger, make choices on how to progress, and that progression is a reward for winning battles.
Exp and leveling up are two very distinct traits of rpgs. What on earth are you taking about?
Levels are literally the single most core mechanic of an rpg. Into the Breach is entirely a strategy game, with 0 rpg elements whatsoever.
I would recommend giving Wasteland 2 a try.

Battle brothers is, in a way, a tactical rpg.
At last, this one is mentionned! I guess it's probably much more popular on PC, still it is a gem of a game. Very different from manga-styled classic console tactical rpgs, but gripping atmosphere, deep gameplay, tough (not THAT tough, and you can play it "safe")and extremely rewarding. Awfully addictive too, be warned!

I really like tactical rpg games. But these new ones I dislike. They call them turn based, but they have team turns and arent the same. the battles loose something for me.

Tactical RPGs are called TRPG, NOT SRPG. They are NOT Simulations, as they are not city builders, dating sims, farming sims, power washing sims, they are not sims AT ALL. SRPG is what TRPG is called in Japan because Japanese people make less sense than we do (they eat shirako).
