Throughout the ups, downs, and all-arounds; the appeal of these guys have remained eternal. Originally intended as the edgy subversion of the kiddie platformer, SEGA’s golden boy has become one of the most famous franchises in gaming. For better or worse. Regardless of the game you pick though, a few things remain consistent: addictive speed, amazing music, and a whole lot of characters. But when you take a break from shattering the sound barrier, you come to realize how wide the moral spectrum is stretched on Mobius. Some characters are the image of purity, others are nothing short of evil. And all sorts of characters in between. So who takes the goal ring for most heroic and who deserves to rot with those despicable Dark Chao? Kick back with a chili dog to find out.

I honestly think that Tails should be swapped with Sonic. Tails has more of a heart of Gold personality, whilst Sonic is a bit more of a loose cannon. Of course that is not enough to make him anywhere near evil for sonic, but I feel Tails would always try to use methods that minimise damage and danger whilst the blue blur would not so much due to cockiness and being impatient which are his personality traits.

He rises up to help others, lately Tails has just become an inactive character, his cowardice has comeback even worse by Sonic Forces... So i gotta agree with the list.

If I were you, I would NOT group Team Chaotix all into one. Like, despite being a team, those 3 are on whole different leagues of morality. Charmy is very naive and innocent, and honestly could probably go up there with Cream, maybe a bit lower. Espio could probably go right where you put him, and Vector would most likely go a few spots lower seeing as he's as greedy as he is.
cream and charmy are completely different. while cream is sweet and polite... charmy is a cocky SoB who, may i remind you, gladly kicked eggman s ass in sonic heroes. cream would never assault anyone like that
The bee boy is just a little rowdy.
Now Vector is the very reason they economically struggle. Most sources tell the lead detective always accept work for free if their clients are in extreme circumstances and cannot pay. Say, he is literally generous to a fault. But will otherwise be happy to go for well paying customers as he dreams of riches, rather than being plain greedy. Hence his extreme reaction when, in Heroes, such payment was nothing more of a lie.
I find the team positioning fine.
the only reason why people have no sympathy for vector is because people dislike shadow the hedgehog and free riders. you know, the game when in a noncanon ending the guy tried to convince shadow to not take the negative things it too literally before noticing it is no use and the game where he says he cannot even afford something normal to eat lol.

I feel Amy should be much higher, at least above Sonic
Something that defines Amy, even more than her crush on Sonic imo, is her compassion and ability to see the humanity and kindness in something non-human, or non-organic.
You mentioned her talking to Shadow and Gamma, but what's more is she steps in the middle of Sonic and Gamma during their fight, placing herself physically between them even if it's a risk, before Sonic is about to destroy him, because she knows Gamma is capable of good. Sonic even says he "doesn't get it".
She was really the only one willing to talk to Shadow who didn't have ulterior motives (like Rouge), and even reminded Shadow of Maria.
In the Sonic Mania Aventures series, she cleans up Metal Sonic and brings him back to Eggman, even though he kidnapped her not that long ago.
She's willing to help Silver find who he's looking for, no questions asked the second she meets him (at least until she finds out it was Sonic, and that he was meaning to kill them, which Silver never told her he was planning to do to the person he was looking for either), and then goes off to save Princess Elise.
All this and she doesn't have any powers like the others. She can't run fast (and even when she can, it's not as fast as the others), she can't fly, etc. She's just a normal person/hedgehog with an even stronger sense of justice, morality and compassion than possibly even Sonic.
Finally, some one who recognizes Blaze’s burning passion!
a word about shadow, this might be a long comment;
ive seen many descriptions of shadow saying he’s violent and dismissive, which is an overstatement to say the least. it sort of contradicts what he was set out to be following adventure 2
1) the most violent shadow’s been seen was his means during battle, e.g hitting silver, against infinite and his overall style. apart from that, he’s been shown to actually be rather ‘cool’. he doesnt pick fights unless he believes it’s necessary, and often wraps things up quickly. ive never seen shadow pick a fight that sonic or silver wouldn’t have in that situation.
2.) on that note the modern interpretation of shadow is definitely a player in this shift in the character; shadow is a loner, and he’s definitely cold, but ‘dismissive’ almost implies apathy.
going out of his way to save rouge twice, go out of his merry way to help both sonic and silver, showing concern for metal sonic, advising amy to be careful during his own game and even citizens in 06 town missions, shadow is compassionate, but a big part of him is just that he doesnt show it unless he has to.
the sonic x anime and 06 i think show both sides of him very well. when misguided and lost, he can be driven to aforementioned acts of violence, and then some, at his worst, but only when he thinks he’s doing good. 06 portrays a since matured shadow who wants to do right by everyone.
i appreciated his wise personality, and as a voice of reason and calm rather than an angry destroyer as of late (though the boom iteration can be entertaining)
while shadow isnt perfect, or a saint by any means, i would have personally put him a little bit higher on the list, but i agree with his placement when looked at it from that perspective

Boom Universe was a bit... weird, in parts, but Tails really made a big step towards much more independence from Sonic, which is definitely good
Yeah boom characters was weird and really different. Basically Sonic turned into a big meanie, knuckles turned into a dumb ass, and amy turned into the annoying one who always wants to talk about your feelings. The only one who had the same character was tails

I personally feel that the Deadly Six should swap with Eggman since they tried to destroy an entire planet when one man enslaved them. An additional character is Eggman Nega, who is similar in that he wants to destroy the world because of Eggman (though more from finding him an embarrassment than revenge, making him slightly more evil than the Deadly Six, as it’s even more petty)
I love the Sonic series, but problem I have with it is the lack of consistent baddies. Aside from Eggman and Metal, each villain will reform, die, or just leave the scene. I guess that’s why I like Zavok and Nega more than most people.
Overall, this was a good list. I hope to see a Mega Man list one day
the problem is that zavok is as dead as some other villains if we do not count team sonic racing canon(never played the game, but heared he is in, so ye).

Ok I’m going to go on a rant here.
As much as Tails is my favorite character, I agree completely with the ranking he gets. I hate the way this lovable, smart, confident, and helpful character, into this whiny, childish, annoying character. I still love tails but I hate the way he gets portrayed in later games. I’m sorry I just needed to get that out.

I think Orbot and Cubot probably should've come before Prof. Gerald. They're kind of harmless, and not even as evil as Scratch and Grounder from AoSTH.

Gamma actually was powered by a bird who was close to the bird in amy's story, and seeing that bird was the primary cause of his revolt.
Edit: To explain the "Freeing" by destroying thing, he was actually trying to free the animals powering them, not the robots themselves, hence his self-destruction at the end of his story.
I'd argue that Sonic should be a bit lower on the list. After all, Sonic tends to focus down on the problem without putting much mind to the damage done in the process, and usually runs off, leaving someone else to clean up his mess, as seen at the end of SA1 and Forces, and arguably CD, if the future references suggesting Bad Future to be canon are to be believed.
His tendency to do thing his own way with no patience for others thoughts causes some issues, primarily in SA2, where instead of trying to clear the misunderstanding between him and shadow, and working with GUN to stop the bad guys, he actively fights against the military and spend the entire game as a wanted vigilante

GUN was trying to cover up Project Shadow, and they were using Sonic as a scapegoat. They wouldn't work with him. (Although the people were idiots anyway for believing that a black and red hedgehog was Sonic.)
You're not taking into account of Sonic's good qualities, however. Those qualities are why he was put right where he is.
Honestly, @@birdwhoknowswhatsgood1483, most people probably didn't actually get a good look at the hedgehogs, with how fast they were probably moving. If we assume that the average Sonicverse human has a bit of colour blindness, then it makes a lot of sense for them to assume "hedgehog-shaped blur" and "also hedgehog-shaped blur" are the same person. xD

That being said, I would rank Fujin at least one spot above Liu Kang. Close call, but I'd have to give the most evil to Shao Khan, Shinnok second and Quan Chi third.

Sega botched him unfortunately, I hope for redemption for him (the fact he wasn't a Super Sonic the final boss is rather disappointing to me).
Oh definitely. Although Zavok returned in future games, so I hope infinite will as well. In fact I want a boss fight where you fight metal sonic as sonic with infinite in the background manipulating the environment and sending projectiles at you.

Wrath: Knuckles. Death Battle described his fighting style as the ancient art of "punch the crap out of everything" for a humorously good reason.
Greed: Rouge. Might also go to Vector for being motivated by money, but at least Vector has an established reason for beating up people who don't follow through on their end of the bargain. Rouge goes after the Master Emerald a good amount of times and I don't think she intends to use it for its intended use.
Lust: Amy. At least up till... Team Sonic Racing, I think, not a game's gone by where she makes more than one attempt to flirt with Sonic.

Darwin: Iblis. Mostly for being a mere force of nature without Mephilis' scheming to guide him.
Pride: Black Doom. Describing himself as the ultimate power may not be unfounded considering his genetics are in the ultimate life form, but it's still pretty self-centered.

Envy: Metal Sonic. The reason for Sonic Heroes' plot is because Metal Sonic really REALLY wanted to kill Sonic and even proclaimed himself the real deal.

Here's my take on what 1-up Binge would likely think of as a total villain. The final boss of star allies along with maybe gooey, would arguably end up in the exact same place, as they are the pure embodiment of neutrality.While kirby is void influenced by good feelings and dark matter/zero is void influenced by bad, void itself has not been influenced very much to begin with and is only really evil for the duration of it's bossfight. By the end of the soul melter EX battle, kirby's mere presence ends up completely neutralizing it's influence and possibly even tipping it towards good before death. Kirby lore is stupid deep for the game it comes from.
Tails’ character reached an all time low in Sonic Forces. There’s nowhere else to go but up, foxboi
tails character reached a low in terms of writing, not morality. I think the most evil thing he ever did in the series was to steal rings from eggman in shadow the hedgehog.

PS: Mobius isn't naturally home to humans. Earth is Eggman's world of origin and the planet in Unleashed is probably Earth or another Earth-like planet (there is more than one human world according to Sonic X, which is semi-canon)
It’s nice to know that Team Dark is no longer portrayed as villains in the Sonic universe, I think there was even one time when Shadow gave supportive advice to the main character in the Rio Olympics on the 3DS. Where would characters from Sonic and the Secret Rings, and the Black Knight rank in this list? Something I’d like to see next is Mario + Rabbids 1 & 2 characters ranked good to evil.

I think shadow might be one of the most good characters if you don't include games after 06
The issue with placing shadow as either good or evil is that he's not working from a sense of morality. All he's doing is following maria's wish; which he first mistakenly thought was to destroy the world, and then realized it's to help it. With that revelation he's undeniably working on the side of good (pretty much as much as possible), but he's not doing it because he's morally a good character; only that it's his 'duty'.

He was entirely aware of his actions in sa2 when he was trying to destroy everyone on earth meaning many innocents cause of his revenge and didn't bat an eye till he found out that Maria wanted him to protect the earth. People may argue he is an anti hero now cause of the games afterwards of him doing some minor good deeds on his own and just being nicer but he is definitely not a hero and can be considered a villian cause he was one.

Prince Boo Meta Knight isn’t really an anti-hero anymore (well, at least in my opinion). Ever since Return to Dream Land, he hasn’t been fighting Kirby or doing anything questionable like how he did in the earlier games.

I think E-102 should be must higher on the list, the entire intention of the redemption arch was an extremely good deed, and I think it represents how being innocent doesn't equate being good, he made mistakes in his past, but he attempted to fix these mistakes.
Being a hardcore Sonic fan, I'd like to object. I think that Cream should be NO 1 on the list because of her nice nature, going to save her kidnapped mother in Sonic Advanced 3, calling everyone 'MR' or 'MRS', and e.c.t.
Next should be Maria. Although she did comfort Shadow in his time on the A.R.K and sacrificed her life for Shadow, she did raise Shadow the Edgehog, who, might I add, used fricking GUNS in Shadow the Hedgehog and made an agreement with Eggman to blow up the Earth. Then, third, would be Chip. Admittedly, Chip is a pure soul, but Werewolf Sonic is VERY... how do I put it, INSANLY STRONG AND CREEPY!!, and he worked with the beast.

Nah Mephiles is the most evil. Dark Gaia is a dark form essentially and was created from evil, meaning he doesn’t have a clear moral agency, also he isn’t on pure evil wiki but Mephiles is.
Really, just the fact that Dark Gaia doesn't qualify as Pure Evil shocks me. Mephiles is worse though. Still, Dark Gaia has no redeeming qualities.

13:07 here is actually my theory regarding 06’s representation in Sonic Generations: I don’t think it is so much canon as it is the Time Eater tearing into alternate timelines as well. Essentially 06 still canonically didn’t happen and Crisis City in Generations was what COULD have happened.
At first I was shocked that mephiles wasn't in 1st place. But I guess dark gaia does make sense when you put it that way.

'06 is canon, but only barely. It technically didn't happen in the timeline. However, it's not the only time Silver's come back from the future. He was in the 3DS version of colors and I think he was in Rivals as well, making him a canon character in Generations.

I used to like Sonic as a character because he's an example of someone who just... Really don't got character development but still works effectively. Because he knows when it's time to stop joking around and get serious. He fights by his own *Beliefs* of what's good, he just does whatever he really gotta do. A good example is Sonic and the Dark Knight (If I said that name right) where he had his cutscenes with the dark queen who wanted a world and her kingdom to last forever however the draw back is everything being shrouded in darkness and evil from the underground if she fully succeeds. Sonic believes this as wrong in his eyes as that a world that doesn't live forever is better than a world that can but is only covered in darkness and corruption. Now why is this so important? Because one can actually argue he isn't doing the *Right* thing. He wants a world to not live forever which is showing this ain't a simple black and white scenario of a protagonist and that's what I love. He is doing this by his own *Belief* of what's right. Another thing in that one game is the fact he gets back up constantly even after his pockets ran. He just kept getting up and fighting again even if the efforts seem not great, he fought because he gotta do what he's gotta do which is what he said. This is showing that he doesn't always have a plan like he a Anime MC with 5000 IQ strategies. This is pure example of Sonic's character.

Shadow isn't a Emo but that depends on what game. The games I referring to are Adventure 2, Sonic Heroes and Sonic 06. These 3 games are good examples
Now we gotta remember that Shadow's best friend Maria Robotnik was killed (If I said her name right) which further on he been in a form of stasis until Eggman proceeded to just release him at around the start of Adventure 2. He always seemingly having flash backs of Maria though he sadly mistakes the words of Maria wish which he thinks she ask for revenge on humanity to avenge her. However that isn't the case as his Memories got altered by his own creator which he's called Gerald Robotnik (I hope I ain't butchering these names) who wanted revenge on humanity for what happened to Maria (Grand-daughter). The fact he went so far as to take revenge on humanity means that he really would of done any promise that Maria would of said. That just shoes how deep the relationship is as considering them friends is a understatement. They're best friends at its finest. He did all of this just because he cared about her. It didn't matter what the request was showing that he just wants nothing more but to fulfill a promise she gave as this is something Maria wanted. *I would say simp but let's keep it civil.* When Rouge ask him if he's the real shadow which Shadow responded with the fact he simply didn't care if he was the real shadow as Maria's promise is the realest thing about him. Another is the fact when Rouge proceeds to get the Chaos emerald but is stuck on Prison island as it is about to blow up. She can't escape as she's locked in so that's not happening. But the fact Shadow proceeds to literally have flashbacks of Maria which makes him immediately rush to her rescue as he don't want to make the same mistake again. He isn't a Emo, he isn't Emotionless... The fact he actually *Cares* for people, on top of that with the fact he feels more in a introvert who had a hard time expressing himself instead of being emotionless. He gone as far as to protect the earth to keep Maria's promise man... Oh s--t he actually did, well I be dang.
I got more to explain why I like shadow as a character but this can do. Now shadow has became a Emo because of the *Shadow the Hedgehog Game* which is why his stereotype got lead to emo city.
