    Since Fallout 3, every single installment of the Fallout Franchise has included mysterious references to strange, Lovecraftian entities hiding behind the world's curtains. Fallout 4 continued the mystery and now Fallout 76 is expanding upon the bizarre Dunwich company's objectives in the most insightful way yet.

      And then watching a Nate video and being like: "oh, i didn't think about that, it's canon now!"

    Heres some things you missed:
    Fallout 76 has another "Interloper" / person turning into tree, that is way smaller and located underneath the Whitesprings resort near the Chinese Base
    Tanagra Town (A few houses that seemingly were raised from the ground by roots) has a cavern system with a Metal Head at the bottom
    The Enclave Oil Rig was decorated with the Heads (so its fair to assume they were involved atleast somewhat)

      I think there was a shift in the meaning behind the metal heads between the classic games and the Bethesda games. The heads seem to be more involved with the American government at large. (EX: the ungodly amount of them in the capital), Bethesda thought they looked creepy, and it's snowballed into the whole eldritch mystery we have today. I think some of the more recent level designers for the expeditions seem to be more of a fan of the classic games to some extent. Since the areas are a lot more similar in design and aesthetic to those games.

    Hey nate, it's guys here. Can you look into "Nothing" in Fallout? In Fallout 4's far harbor the children of atom send you to take care of a heretic and she is screaming something like "nothing is real". And yesterday I was playing 76 and inside fort defiance (an old asylum) there's a room with a headless skeleton with big red words on the wall that say "Nothing is real". Is Bethesda referencing something?

    Whilst it doesn't change anything, I found it interesting that the note that led the cultists to the mine specifically states that only ONE of them could hear the voice - which is VERY similar to other instances with Dunwich locations and individuals being led to certain locations - combine that with the test server note reveal, and it makes me really think that the Dunwich cultists thought they were in charge, but the higher power was acting as it pleased, regardless of their efforts.

    Probably already been said. The thing skeleton in the maw is a humpback whale (maybe with some artistic license). The "tusks" are the lower jaw that has split, this is a common mistake even made in real life when whale carcasses wash up. So it is most like a reused asset from far harbour. Though in game i doubt that's what they intend it represent.

It uses a different model than the creature in the Lucky Hole Mine but the two do feel connected. It's also interesting that the one in The Deep is called The Visitor while the one in The Lucky Hole Mine is called The Interloper, it almost sounds as if the one in The Deep was a welcomed guest while the one in the mine was not.

    • @NinjaDimes
      @NinjaDimes 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +15

      If you actually ever play F76 there's a lot of love in it, it's clear to me the devs have always loved it and tried really hard to make something good. It's a shame the launch wasn't great but there is and was TONS of lore, and all the locations are almost all real places, for example, Helvetia, Pumpkin House, Palace of Winding Path, Morgantown, VTU, Whitesprings, which is based on a real US place in West Virginia called the Greenbrier, which IRL has a bunker underneath. They put a bunker underneath it in Fallout 76 too. There's more. It's more than abundant to me that the devs sat there and tried to make a rich map and they obviously still care with the inclusion of stuff like Organ Cave which is pretty recent. So they never really lost the passion, honestly. I would say that 76 is definitely a labor of love. Yeah they have the cash shop but you don't have to look at that stuff and it's all cosmetic. You can instead pick a section of the map and just fall down into a quest rabbit hole (Order of Mysteries is a fun one). Etc etc. It's a worthwhile game in my opinion.

    • @SonicsniperV7
      @SonicsniperV7 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      @NinjaDimes From what Ive seen, it's mostly been the higher ups directing the developers to do the stuff people haven't like. For example the devs all though having no NPCs was a bad idea but weren't allowed to do otherwise.

    • @user-rl3bw9yd3f
      @user-rl3bw9yd3f 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@NinjaDimes I wish that were true about it being a labor of love. But you are forced to look at the cash shop items all the time as part of the issue with 76 is that it is multiplayer and you have random instanced players with bases filled with that store junk riddled all throughout the map. In addition the repetitive missions and always annoying nukes being set off (which is super non-cannonical) hurt the immersion. I think of it as a game which you could love but for its faults caused by the developer itself. It is filled with random advertisements by way of crap fortnight adjacent emotes and cash shop cosmetics and 4th wall breaking moments which makes it hard to stay immersed (the main reason most players engage with the series of games). I tried it and disliked it even years after launch because of all this. Being able to experience the writing and environmental could help if they did not paywall a private server (offline) option as that would solve most of these issues. I wanted to love it, but just could not. I would say all this lore you have to try to hard to reach to make it worth it with all that crap in between, like reading Steven King's IT, but with magazine adverts every 6th page and Better Health non-skippable video ad rolls.

    So, for the blood river to flow for 25 years is rare, but not impossible or otherworldly.
    (Althoughhhhh, Lovecraft did write about eldrich horrors within Antarctica, and warned us to stay away ['At the Mountains of Madness' published 1931].

    I don't know if you're going to see this, but your retelling of the Fallout RPG storyline was so good that it turned into the core storyline of the Pathfinder game I'm playing in right now. I loved the video so much that I sent it to the guy who's GMing the game during a space of time between when he'd finalized the game's setting (a steampunk Mad Max world) and started running the actual sessions. More than half a year later, I've realized that we're playing a modified version of the story that you told. I still haven't told him that I've made the connection because I'm afraid if he knows I know he'll change what's going to happen and I really want to know where it's going.

    I love this type of content. Chilling ominous findings that you have to dig to find. No jump scares, no stupid psycho chasing you around. Just this chilling "FEELING" that something beyond our understanding is watching us. A Feeling that something horrible is going to happen. LOVE IT!
