Hey Artie thanks for the question. The correct terminology for this is called Backfire. We use this firing method when conducting normal firing operations. Its fire set within the control line to try and change the course of the fire or decrease the intensity of the main fire. The control line we had in some of the scenarios were critical areas that needed to be held and we couldnt afford let the fire jump our control line, That is one of the reasons we have to put more fire down, Also to decrease the threat of unburned fuel between us and the fire which is dangerous. Fighting fire with fire is best at times, we get to carry fire with us to create a safety zone that we can retreat to when fire behavior is too intense and makes swift runs. Hey Kaija, Yes some water hit us but nothing direct. We are qualified to work with helicopters which puts us in harms way but its a high risk job we take to help stop these wildfires, In the original footage without the editing youll see alot more bucket drops and all the work we do in these scenarios are done with safety for ourselves and adjoining forces. I know this may be a stupid question, but can anyone explain to me why they start fires with those torches?
Long Gunner 762 nothing wrong, it’s called a burn. What it does is take up the fuel from the main fire, fighting fire with fire

Depending on the nearest forest service or agencies they would always put up flyers on which trainings are coming also if you would like to try a wildland fire academy that would also be a good option due to the highly qualified instructors that can teach you a lot during your courses. So if I were you I would be looking into the nearest trainings and take the recommend training for the job announcement that you are applying for. Mario Dia Special Thanks to GoPro for recognizing the work we do and the cameras we use to film every task and tactic on the fireline, We like to show our families and the world what we do when the smoke rises in the mountains and clears after fire threatens lives and property. This is a high risk job and is the best job to do in the nation.
