      Most humans would think about jail time, vilification of their reputation, and if getting a murder charge over a tow is worth it and put the shotgun away. Unfortunately for the tow driver, he flashed his gun to an alien, not a human.

      @@patrickdix772 I've always been under the impression that the Noisy Cricket is another "lesson" for new Agents. After it was banged through their heads in their induction tests that not all is always as it seems, the Noisy Cricket is another reminder of that.
      Granted it's a problem on both their heads; J was a cop and therefore should know better with any firearm even one that looks like a child's toy, and K really should've been a little bit more transparent about "if you point this at someone and fire it, they're going to have an far worse day than you think they are."

    • @patrickdix772
      @patrickdix772 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@AlexQuill63 the thing is, people IRL have been killed by being given a gun they couldn't handle the recoil on / weren't prepared for. So for a professional like K to hand something like the noisy cricket to a novice like J without telling him about it isn't a "lesson", it's just stupid.
      For example, if J happened to first fire it when the recoil would actually kill him (launch him off a high drop, into something that impales him, whatever) then they just wasted a lot of time and effort selecting him for nothing. Taking him to a firing range and having him shoot it once after a warning and with pads behind him would fix this and still be a lesson on things not being as they seem.
      Of course, it's a comedy movie so not following gun safety on either side is often part of the joke.

    I like to think that J was given the Noisy Cricket intentionally, and not as a joke. Think about it: former undercover NYPD officer who’s established as a great shot. Small, concealable, and powerful. I think K knows J can take a shot and hit the target when it matters most

      My take is that J just found it very funny, or weird, that an alien prince would be chilling on earth worshipping a cat, and didn't think too much past that. He's still new to the alien stuff at this point. And it took Frank telling them to look for something small to make the connection.
      Edit: On second watch, the gunshot took his attention.

    His self-sacrifice in enduring this teasing showed his dedication to his species and his work and professionalism to the absolute end.

    2:19 - There are rumors that a group of operators who were monitoring the territory of the USSR (this was in the seventies) via a spy satellite witnessed an amazing event - the driver of a freight train on the Turkestan-Siberian Railway picked up high speed, then flew into the air with the locomotive and all the cars, performed a Nesterov loop and, having landed back on the rails, continued on. There are rumors that the entire group of operators ended up in a psychiatric hospital after this and is still there.

    This movie is one of a very small number of movies I'd consider perfect. Not necessarily flawless in every possible way. K and J are smart, competent heroes who are only held back by their personal limitations, which they overcome by the end of the movie. Edgar the man was a mean bastard, so when he became Edgar the Cockroach, there was no sympathy for his character. His motivation was clear, and his exposition was delivered in a sensible way; not beating you over the head but by giving all of it to Frank the Pug. The stakes are high, the threats are real, and the characters make sensible decisions and suffer the consequences of the bad ones.
    Casting is perfect, Vincent D'Onofrio gave one of the best physical performances still to this day, the main and side characters are distinct and memorable. The effects hold up, and the overall vibe is just terrific. Not to mention Danny Elfman's always awesome score.
    It's up there with The Matrix and Blade Runner as one of the greatest sci-fi movies ever. It's one of my all-time favorites.

I do like that he has enough trigger discipline to not touch the trigger, but I can't tell if it's because he's treating it like a weapon or if it's because he's trying not to drop it.

    It's strange that MIB agents didn't have their memories flashed red as soon as they were drafted, and were told something like, "you're an MIB agent, you were born and raised to be just that, we're your family and there is nothing else but your family." In this way they would have avoided so much depression and regret for the officers who live knowing that they had to abandon their lives and their loved ones.

    • @lylemcdermott2566

      Maybe that would clash with their memories, they would have to reconcile not having trained and having a normal life until then? Wait a minute I didn't have weapon training?! Why did I get bullied in high school? So on and so on. Not neurolysing them would somewhat preserve what makes them good candidates to be agents and in their carreer they get brain damaged so much, at one point many must have neuralysed themselves many times already to keep going.
