I feel like the practical effects are why a lot of older movies still look pretty good. Newer films tend to just chose to green screen and CGI everything.

It was mostly special effect. It was more practical to do it via special effect than do it as just a visual effect. So first it is the visual effect as the Mikey jumps toward debuty, and then it is combined with the special effect of the explosion. And there is someone throwing the stuff over debuty in one take, and then there is the special effect for blowing up the stuff on scene, where visual effect is used to conceal the support and detonator.
The creature looks a bit simular to jar jar, but A LOT more realistic. There is no even a comparison, how much better this one looks. But its no wonder, star wars ep.1 was released a very long time ago, 1999, technology was a way less advanced at that time, compared to this technological marvel

I'm born in the 80s so grew up with Fresh Prince, I loved Will Smith but he let himself down terribly with that slap on what should have been his crowning achievement night, winning that oscar. He probably can't even look at it now.
