I’m genuinely not sure which will blast to the moon per se, but I am very curious to watch Altered TCG’s launch and see if the business model is successful. Could be a real shift in the space if it becomes big enough. I might give it a shot when it’s available to the public. I wonder what else will be in the app, tournament organizing and other features would be interesting to see! Cheers.
a vast majority of costs when it comes to making any product is marketing. they got the word out first, and gained the capital to actually make the thing afterwards. most likely had a majority of it funded from a private source tbh.
Altered is too weird to stick, IMO. Do love the fact that at least someone is innovating, even if I think its doing it poorly. Will certainly be fun to keep an eye on! Personally, not playing anything. Got annoyed with Wizards of the Coast, and tired of Legends of Runeterra recently.
I quit MTG overall.. but it's still has the best "drafting/limited" system in their pack drops. Nobody can touch it. Lor is great too.. but I agree I tried of it after 3 years. The meta heads all playing the same 2-3 decks... It got old quick. Try CUE. They have some of the same meta problems...but you have tons of choices of card themes... From 7 different main "themes/albums". The added benefit is you aren't trying to gather 3 or even 4 cards to build a deck. Think power of one decks ...you just need 1 card and make an 18 card deck. Much more effective and efficient long term.
Nostalgix has their third set up for preorders right now. That's a game definitely worth looking into. Also Mythik TCG announced a new set coming a little later this year too. Both are great games.
Great video. Thanks for making this. I'll be curious to see if Lorcana can continue to grow or slowly lose interest. I'll also be interested in seeing if Star Wars Unlimited can make an impact or people have lost all hope with FF Games. Grand Archive looks cool. I've never seen the game before but it looks really cool.
the standout you said that I have also noticed is the amount of people PLAYING Lorcana at stores locally, and the diverse player base it attracts due to the IP's it holds. I personally haven't played as there is no current draw for me (maybe when they start adding Simpsons and other Disney owned properties) but it's good to see a game actually being played.
Elestrals although their kickstarter was the end of 2022 switched manufacturers post kickstarter eddition and is pumping out their first 3 expansion sets this year and a re print of its first set ! Im super hyped for it. Small company big dreams
Shadowverse has Bushiroad as publisher which was famous for Cardfight Vanguard or Buddy Cardfight. Totally lost it footing on the european and american tcg market and left with me a bad aftertaste to support Bushiroad any further
I'm a Digimon and Pokemon player, and I'm interested in seeing how Altered goes on. The sales pitch is really cool and the cards look great, but I'm always skeptical of how kickstarter games end up... I like the idea, but we'll see how it goes from here.
Wow, these new trading card games look so cool! I’ve just started playing Berserk and it's been a lot of fun. If you’re into trading card games like me, you might want to give it a try too!
Star Wars unlimited has been great! Actually good sized community in my area. Lorcana I was excited about but just too simple. Wanting to play grand archive looks more interesting than shadowverse.
check out Despaira, under the radar new game at the moment but it looks amazing, cool mechanics with cards moving on the battlefield in different terrain and the card designs and arts are great
I am a YGO player mainly and also play FaB occasionally. I am also a big fan of the Shadowverse IP. I just wished there was an actual scene in my area. I've tried to teach the game to some of my friends to no avail. Hope the game keeps growing.
@@DMArmada I can't trust anything FFG. Destiny had a lot of promise but flopped hard. FFG makes games to keep licensing but hasn't proved it can supply anything long term.
Lorcana is already in what i call the runner up tcg. Iupt there with one piece, digimon and dbs to name a few. If sustained properly by disney it could make it in the big league with magic, yugioh and pokemon, disney definitly as the money to do so.
I really want to get into a card game again. The last one I seriously got into was Panini's DBZ game. It was the first card game I actually started collecting as well as playing. But it got dropped and I really don't want to invest hundreds if not thousands of dollars into a game just for it to get C&D'd like DBZ or just drowned out by the Big 3 (Magic, Pokemon, Yugioh). I want to get into a game, but I don't trust that any game other than the Big 3 will have any kind of lifespan to make it worth the investment.
I appreciate the stylized version of the art that we're getting, as it ages better and feels more cohesive to world compared to new and old still shots from the movies. It's definitely more of a personal preference thing!
You Missed "Legions Realms at War" Plays like a Refined, and evolved more fair Yugioh, Every card is semi full art, Winner of Gencon 2023 fellowship award, In Serveral Local games stores, and had a solid launch of its 3rd Box Set along with supporting sets. I have Shadowverse as my Anime tcg, FAB as my Western Combat game, Sorccery as my Grid card/board game, But only Legionss or LRAW really satisfies my cards and life points as resource no "Go Again actin points required" need thirst yugioh style that Legions does. and the collectabily of the rares and quality of the non- curling foils on Back core are just incredible.
I feel like Star Wars is likely to get a MTG universes beyond set which will make the Star Wars TCG obsolete. That is just my opinion though. Marvel has Snap and Final Fantasy has its own TCG but Magic still is making sets from them. I could totally be wrong but I would be a little surprised lol!
@@DMArmada It's supposed to come out in February, might just be something that sits on target shelves. I am both ironically and unironically excited for it.
@@DMArmada I played a few games here in Korea. It's a shockingly decent game. It does a lot of things differently from other games and strongly encourages careful resource management and mathy plays. The one thing I'm worried about is I feel like they've explored most of the design space in set two. They seem to want to keep card effects pretty simple, so unless they crank up the complexity of cards or start feature creeping in set three I'm not sure what can come next. Regardless, I am a fan and I'll be keeping an eye on it even though I'm not actively playing.
Everyone in my area who started Shadowverse,Lorcana and Grand Archive pretty much dropped it for vastly different reasons and problems with these games(or their companies) The only new game that is making a consistent local game scene is Battle Spirits Saga which has me hooked as well to be honest.I get to play 2-3 locals a week in different game stores. It's important for new games to be available and not have distribution errors and problems. Luckily Battle Spirits Saga has none of these problems and it is quite cheap to get into and with good money rewards on the competitive scene so I believe it deserves a mention in this list. Other than that I have not seen Star Wars or Alpha Class in any game store shelf.
I'm sorry, and I don't mean to be toxic, but Altered is a dumb idea. It's just Physical NFT's that all in all will have 0 proper and conceivable competitive scene, all while waltzing around with artificially bloated prices, as NFT's do. I will be surprised if it finds broad success, and I mean, it SOUNDS cool beyond my initial gripes and I wouldn't hate trying it, but man its just literally an attempt at physical NFT's
I view it more as a board game, though it is a TCG in the strictest sense. One set a year means it's likely to have its core audience with stunted growth in the space. Honestly, I think that's the best thing for the game as well!
I'm hoping to see big things from Alpha Clash this year. Been studying the game extensively, topping local and online events alike, joined a podcast for the game (The Rogue Contenders, hosted by @ryotinccg) and I'll be bringing my best concoctions to Vegas this April.
Which game do you think has the BEST chance of spiking the space in 2024?

Altered 100%
WAGMI Defense is going to take the world by storm!
dont get how Altered needed to go to kickstarter but had the capital to invite and host a ton of youtubers to Paris to "hype" the game :/
Easy.. Rule number one of business: Never use your own money.
a vast majority of costs when it comes to making any product is marketing. they got the word out first, and gained the capital to actually make the thing afterwards. most likely had a majority of it funded from a private source tbh.
lorcana is my bet. the game is easy to learn and has tons of depth, competitive circuit is starting and the game just gets better.
Eh tbh the base design is quite limited. Its gonna be interesting to see how it keeps going. Interest at my locals has already died out
Altered is too weird to stick, IMO.
Do love the fact that at least someone is innovating, even if I think its doing it poorly. Will certainly be fun to keep an eye on!
Personally, not playing anything. Got annoyed with Wizards of the Coast, and tired of Legends of Runeterra recently.

I am very curious what will be the remnants of the TCG boom 5-6 years from now.
It'll be a fascinating case study. If previous history holds true, many of the TCGs in the space will cease to exist
Nostalgix has their third set up for preorders right now. That's a game definitely worth looking into. Also Mythik TCG announced a new set coming a little later this year too. Both are great games.
Alpha Clash TCG is big in the Philippines with over a hundred players! ❤
That's GREAT news!
Grand Archive is doing really good. Arts and gameplay, as well as meta variety, have improved much.

Not a tcg
I don't agree, it's a TCG with a board interaction !@@Elite4GamingZ
@@hamerhead141 so not a tcg basically. Sounds like you are agreeing to me. 🤷

More of a board game with cards?

If it does then I think it'll become a mainstay... Otherwise, it could be another Force of Will or Vanguard (popular in very small, specific regions).
Chronicles of Arcane TCG should’ve been on there
Great video, good list of pretty quality games along with good commentary of criticism.
High praise from you sir, thank you!
You should talk about TerraFyte. Its a spaceship game that uses pixel art, its enjoyable.
Really hyped for Altered here !!! Great video !
Star Wars U will be awesome. I'm a little biased, but I'm well aware
I'm ready to see it pop off!
@@DMArmada I can't trust anything FFG. Destiny had a lot of promise but flopped hard. FFG makes games to keep licensing but hasn't proved it can supply anything long term.
Wish I had more disposable income. Really want to try Sorcery, GA, AC, SWU, and dabble back into Lorcana. Can barely keep up with FaB though😭
I would still keep an eye on Kryptik and Mythrel
Really enjoying Shadowverse, but it’s had a real hard time getting going in the U.K…
Hoping for better things with the OP shakeup this year!
I'm very excited for Altered. Been following it for a little while.
Kickstarter live tomorrow!

SWU is fantastic, and FFG seems super commited to its success...they have a fantastic OP plan already laid out
I was impressed with their OP plan being so concrete before launch

Same here with the DBZ TCG
Battle Spirits Saga is life! It’s clear the creators have studied the history of games. It feels the freshest, newest and most dynamic.
I carry 5 games in my store: MTG, Pokémon, OP, FAB, and Sorcery. At the this point I won’t even look into anything else because there’s no reason.
Really wish SW U licensed the art from the Decipher version. It was so flavorful. The frames and icons on these cards look lazy.
I appreciate the stylized version of the art that we're getting, as it ages better and feels more cohesive to world compared to new and old still shots from the movies. It's definitely more of a personal preference thing!
Don't forget Upper Deck's reboot of the Neopets TCG coming out this year!
Alpha Clash!!!!

It's been around for several years now, meaning I didn't include it in a new games list
Any chance for sci fi / cyberpunk / military TCGs? It seems all of these games are either fantasy or anime / fantasy. I wonder why that is.
I miss Dice Masters so much!!!!!
Hey, can you review a card game called eigendark it's a card game where you make the cards, I would greatly appreciate it if you could!
I've got Lorcana and Shadowverse cards sitting right in front of me. Looking forward to Star Wars and Altered. It's going to be an expensive year!

That would be a pretty big get for Hasbro, but idk if Disney would be as willing to put that collaboration together
Does anyone else think that Altered booster boxes are overpriced compared to other games booster boxes you could get?
Let's be honest.. it's all probably related to speculation.
We LOVE Shadowverse Evolve, and we are very excited about SW Unlimited. So much good stuff. Excellent video, thanks for these reviews.
