It's also nice to hear his point of view, where it's clear that he never thought of himself as God, just a simple guy who loved music. Hands down one of my favorite musicians ever. And it just so happens that the first riff I learned on the guitar when I was 7 years old was "Sunshine of your love"...

To all the people who are saying that it's a historical piece and it should be respected, well...
The one played by Eric was the historic piece. That one deserves the respect. Eric put his sweat and tears into that one, literally. Every bump or scuff that it has on it has been a culmination of years of ownership and hardwork and it comes from a story, an actual even that has happened in the history.
The ten thousand or so copies of it which are being produced to look like the historic one aren't Eric's guitar. They're just an ordinary piece of wood with no story to them other than the fact that they were scratched up in a factory by some workers.
Buy your own regular guitar, own it for some time, and have stories of it to tell about the time you've spent with it. If you're dedicated enough, some namey guitar company will want to make copies of your guitar.
Nothing will make you feel more proud than being able to tell your own story rather than buying a recreated copy of someone else's story.

To me, it’s amazing that the people at Fender get to reverse engineer what they did so many decades ago & the effects that aging had on those works. That must be so much fun. It’s so rare today that we get to focus on quality of work, as all cost.

Beautiful guitar but there's something odd about reproducing all of those nicks and scratches. Those were all earned by Clapton through years of great playing, but the person buying the replica hasn't done the work to earn those signs of passion. They are just paying to not have to do the hard work.

karsaurlong I'm basically saying that I wouldn't buy a guitar that is a copy of the guitar that someone famous used. I like some signature guitars like the ibanez Jem. I guess you could also call the les Paul a signature guitar. Those are fine, I just don't want a guitar that is a clone of what Eric Clapton, Jimmy page, etc played

I always find these guitar homages a bit weird. To me it isn't the instrument, it's the musician. If Clapton had played a candy apple red strat with a rosewood board they would still say all the same crap. I know there is going to be a whole bunch of fan boy's on the warpath, but this (in case you're unaware) is called marketing, nothing more.

I came to this from the Andy Summers Tribute Telecaster. The Moment when Clapton looks at it with a lump in his throat and says "yeah that'll do". Don't forget Clapton doesnt have "Brownie" anymore - he gave it up. As Andy Summers said "Whern I opened the case, it was like the twilight zone because I knew I'd left it (his original) in the loft at home." I'm sure Clapton feels similar here. It's not the oriiginal but so close as to evoke memories/feelings/life experiences of years long gone. This was/is the "Layla" guitar....
