Genei ryodan is the Japanese term of Phantom troupe. If you watch again the scenes where they talk about the phantom troupe, they said genei ryodan or ryodan. Same thing with Melody's name, they call her Senritsu not Melody. This version is definitely diff compared to the 2011. Kurapika's prayer, how Uvo threw the crushed can, the fight itself like the punches he received from Uvo, how he removed his contact lens, especially the last part where you can see Kurapika's struggle/shaking that was not included in the 2011 version etc. Also, I recommend Kurapika vs Hisoka in 1999 final phase of the hunter exam arc where they showed the whole fight.
Ryoudan is a Phantom Troupe in Japanese. Kurapika did pray both before and after the fight in 1999, while in 2011 he didn't. And there was quite more emotional break down in 1999 than 2011. The 1999 version was darker tone, which imo, I find it perfect to the story that never been meant to be light-hearted anime 😂 PS. HxH 1999 version is the masterpiece of how to make a proper filler. Every fillers of 1999 was excellent.
kurapika in 2011 his eyes only look empty while burying uvogin. and in the manga, he look normal (atleast to me) haha but in the 1999, they really put emphasis on how he was affected by his first kill. tho the vomit and the 'walling' is kinda cringe HAHA still, i vastly prefer the 1999 over 2011 one. it just gives more feels to it
Good thing I saved my comment in a text file this time because I can never tell if there is a TH-cam bot going around deleting comments with even just a part of a TH-cam link in them or what so, this time, I'll just put the full name of the TH-cam videos I'll be recommending for reactions instead : Sorry about the long rant but bear with me. You may find something interesting in there. The prayer at the start is a 1999 exclusive for the sake of characterization and there are many additions of the like throughout this version, which further enhance the story. As to the visual quality itself, this looks like the scene was not only extracted from some poor TV RIP or video tape RIP but was also cut a few times after that, making it choppy and incomplete. There are many videos of other scenes out there that are in the quality they're supposed to be at or, at least, close, on top of having 100% of their original content. Here are a few recommendations for you to react to: - Hunter x Hunter Pakunoda's death (1999) Good quality - Hunter x Hunter (1999) ~ Maître Wing parle à Killua (a 1999-exclusive scene between Wing and Killua, I know the title is in French but the subs are in English so no worries) These two and a lot of other videos are good representations of what the 1999 version has over the 2011 one: - A better understanding of characters (which can be seen both within canon scenes and the added scenes I previously mentioned vs 2011, which had multiple cases of failure or absence of proper portrayal, between making Gon and Killua more childish and look cuter than they really were, removing the scene with Kite at the very beginning of the story, among other things) - Colouring (1999's authentic vs. 2011's generally plastic-looking) - Lighting (1999 understands natural and atmospherical lighting for better immersion, while 2011 tends to be too bright, both in daytime and nighttime settings) - Artistic direction (2011 had its moments like, Chrollo's Requiem, but they were too few and far between, in comparison) - Storyboarding (same thing that happened with artistic direction there) - Sound design (1999's innovative sounds vs. 2011's overall plain and overused ones) - Music (2011 had a few tracks that truly stood out here and there amongst a great amount of good - albeit generic - ones while 1999 OST is overall far more original and immersive) All these elements contributed in making the atmosphere in the 1999 version a far more unique and inspired one than what the 2011 version could ever hope to achieve. The 2011 is great on its own right, don't get me wrong, and while it has mainly the advantages of recency (better video resolution, better sound quality for sound effects, music and voices and the fact that since it came much later, it covered more parts of the story that weren't written at the time the first version ended) and bar a few exceptions (some scenes in the Yorknew City and the Chimera Ant arcs), what it offers is overall nowhere close to the level passion and understanding put in the 1999 version, which director, Kazuhiro Furuhashi, is, himself, a fan of the Hunter x Hunter manga. Finally, should you be interested in reacting to the 1999 episodes, I can point you to download links of episodes of higher quality, after they were further cleaned and resubbed by a fan project.

Do the first 3 episodes of the original 1999 Hunter x Hunter it slows the pace with the 3 of the main characters. Also Gon meeting Kite and getting his father's license. Nippon Animation did this version of Hunter x Hunter.
The old version is longer some say it has more filler, some say it has more content. It generally gives more context to a lot of scenes, it is also more dark, moody and it seems more mature than the new version. The new is more faster paced, doesn't do filler and its in HD, so each one has its pros and cons, I really like both versions. Also, Genei Ryodan is the name of the Phantom Troupe in japanese, they didn't translate the name in the 99 version.
A figth I love in the 1999 version is Gon vs Hanzo in the hunter exam. My respect to the 2011 version but the hunter exam was way cooler in the 1999 version, despites it's filler
The old version is better in terms of pacing and story-telling up to the point of Greed Island. Characters are more fleshed out and you get to know them better. There was also an entirely hunter exam stage that was skipped in the new version.
The original has a Greed Island arc as well it is in Japanese with English subtitles. You are right about the Hunter exam. The first 3 stages had two parts. Also the character Anita was in the original and a lot of the characters had names.
In the video you watched they cut the flashbacks of Kurapika's training. It is better with flashbacks, they come in appropriate moments. The 1999 version conveys a dark and sinister atmosphere; the 2011 focuses on epicness; both excel in their thing.
The quality was a bit bad because you’re watching on TH-cam. I think the quality is reduced due to copyright. The video files I watch of this are much smoother, obviously not HD cause it would never fit the style.
The difference would b: the 1999 version is somewhat more MATURED and rustic in graphics than the 2011 version which is more CHILDREN FRIENDLY aura to it. IF you can watch the fight between KILLUA vs. JONES. when KILLUA plucked Jones's heart it really resembles a human heart compared to the 2011 version. As well as the Original Soundtrack and the Darkness of 1999 version makes it more desirable to watch. But, people nowadays would put much credit and favors on the 2011 version because most people watch the 2011 version FIRST then compares it with the 1999 version.
Lol filmed on a potato.. made for smaller screen ratio. My very favorite anime the 1999 version of HxH. so much was cut to shorten the series like the hunter tests Trick Tower.
This version is so, so much better than the one made to please little children, which is the one from 2011. I can't accept something worse than something that was made over 20 years ago, with fewer resources and less technology. To give you an idea of how bad the new version is, the characters are pointy and in some moments sparks come out when the characters are on the ground, it's rubbish.
Naw. You're just falling for the artstyle here. The fight is better coreographed and animated overall in 2011 version. The music also better placed to match the spirit of the fight.
Exactly. 😂 And i don't mean it to put it down. I too love the artstyle and dark atmosphere of it, but the animation direction and quality is comparitively bad.
We 1999ners have way better sound fx, and the fights were more believable. Plus the way Kurapika take off his drip...Definition of "Syyyyyyn!!" Oh, by the way, does 2011 have Kurapika literally praying on Uvogin's downfall?? Where that at in the 2011 version??
This is no place for people who don't understand the first thing about atmosphere and cinematography. Go back to your superficially good-looking newer anime.
the 1999 zoldyck vs chrollo fight had atmosphere, not this, or maybe you are gonna disagree with me again and say that the 1999 zoldyck vs chrollo fight is crap, lol. @@Forever...Wanderer
@@Forever...Wanderer So crazy to say this like this like the only thing about the 2011 version has it's going for it is "prettier looks". The 2011 has amazing direction. Sure this one is darker and they cut the praying. But even tho the voice acting on this one is good, 2011 is definitely better for both characters, but the sound design and ost is WAY better. Both versions have pros and cons, but even tho this version has that special looks and vibe of the 1990s that fits very well, there is no other way around it: the 2011 is overall superior.
@@bikingchupei2447 That's neither here nor there. I wasn't disagreeing with the Zoldyck vs Chrollo part, but on the other part of your initial comment, which denotes exactly what I've described in my previous comment. You can see that the guys put talent into the design, they put soul into the business, something that is portrayed in the design itself.
Hunter x Hunter 1999 was one of my first anime. Sometimes I still like to listen to Kurapika’s theme song, it was so pretty 😁
1999 GANG WHEERE ARE YOU?
We representing. 1999 is official. 2011 is spinoff adaptation. And Gon found Ging with the accompany on trick in my head canon.
I recommend watching the scene of Pakunoda's death in the 1999 version (available on TH-cam in good quality).
yes this! u should react to this... its emotional... 😢
They did it dirty in 2011, it's like 10-15 sec scene. In 1999 there is a long build up to her death.
