@@anthonyesposito2576 Man I live by this. I have a quick story for you guys. So, I drive a 5 speed manual, and I was having some trouble getting into gears. I had bought the car used, so I don't know the condition of the transmission. The cheapest solution without doing the clutch, is the replace the transaxle fluid. So you know I pull out google, looking for advice from some shops and getting some quotes. One shop was going to charge me 300$!! right? to change out a lil oil? long story short, I get out to harbor freight, advance, get the gear/diff/transmission oil, get that hex.. I can't remember what its called but its to remove the bolt that you use to fill the transmission.. anywho.. I ended up getting the job done, and now it shifts like butter. And that, to me, felt good, even though it was a pain in the ASS to siphon that oil into where the rear sensor goes for the top part of the gearbox.. and my garage reeks of oil, but thats besides the point. What did I end up spending? 30$ on the oil. about.. 50 on tools? and its not like every job you have to keep buying tools unless they're different jobs that require special ones. Anywho, for my next project, I need to find fittings for my VW jetta because some were missing and some of the tabs are coming off of the splashflap thing. Also, I can recommend people to buy a service manual like Haynes or Bentley, because they go in depth to a lot of issues that are common to those cars, and mine came with service intervals for everything even the differential. Ok maybe not as quick as I thought, but I want to motivate someone that if I can do it, they can do it. God bless. Also, America needs to have more manual cars! personal opinion. easier/cheaper to fix, and makes you feel satisfied as a driver. Its a steeper learning curve, but I like a challenge. Now I don't even think about it.

@@angelwashere8864 Its not that bad as long as you don't have like some fancy lambo or something lol. VW has pretty easy to get parts. But, yeah shit just put your mind to it, and you can fix almost anything so long as you don't need a hydraulic lift (I don't even have room for one) or have to remove the whole engine. Thats a different ballgame but hey, if you can, go for it.

When I first got my car, I noticed a sqeaking sound coming from the engine bay, and I popped the hood, and it turned out that the serpentine belt was like half gone, so, I went out, got the belt, and replaced it. My lack of experience, I found out later from a vet mechanic that I should've replaced the tensioner as well esp. in a vw because they've been known to wear out prematurely. anywho.. @@jakek6728 It has everything to do with the question because it is 100% subjective. You go to two different shops, one is 100 cheaper than the other for the same job, you're going with the cheaper one because you think that's more of a fair price since you put nothing else into consideration except the price.
I'll say it again in case you didn't hear. The shops paying the employees well are not cheap. They are the more expensive shop. Every owner I know who's employees make well into 6 figures have a labor rate no less than 149/hr and a parts matrix that ranges from 20% to 300% Every owner I know that doesn't pay their hands that well has a rate of 105/hr or less and has a fixed markup usually between 30-40%.
